I sometimes think about how Jack shows up and immediately calls Stede a “big gal,” then when he leaves the ship, is shocked that the crew wants to “hang around with this fop.”

This is not about class. This is about Stede being visibly femme. This is about Stede being gay. This is about misogyny and homophobia (femmephobia is based in misogyny, he hates Stede because Stede is too much like a woman for his liking). He does not mean “fop.”

Jack is a homophobic misogynist. Just like Nigel and Chauncey and Izzy.
