[Nameless] first heard rumors of Tonglu Mountain while wandering and recovering who he was. After Yong'an, he felt even weaker than his time as a small cold fire. He drifted through the land piercing himself together and dropping whatever didn't benefit him. Honghong-er dies with nothing to replace it, what does a scrap have use for a name anyway ?

He wouldn't leave. He wouldn't leave. He wouldn't leave.

Rumors swirl of a place where ghosts could gain the power akin to a god. Flatten worlds and remake them in their image. A blood fight to the top with only the most worthy coming out the other side.

Only one had survived, a white faced calamity—

And that was that. The humans live, his eye dies, he rises to the top just to jump down again.

E-ming is good but he loathes the thing turning the disgust into power. Ghosts, demons, everything dies by his blade and when finally the power flooded him letting him know the Kiln had opened, he razed a line through the land to reach it. He squatted on the mountain like a parasite feasting on those who got too close and retreated back into his den to create.

The spiritual power had to go somewhere and he worked like a madman retracing his memories until every detail was perfect. He laid down his collection of scrolls saved from ruined temples organized by truth and lie forming his own legends of Tai Zi Dianxia. The murals still feel too small for the thing burning in him and even when the total number of statues break ten, hundreds, a thousand, more he is unsatisfied. Even when the final, when he feels he is ready, is completed towering hundreds of feet high he still sees faults in his devotion

A ghost must remain unsatisfied.

He falls to fire.

The flames consume everything without remorse stripping the spirit until it has nothing left to hide behind. That is what the Kiln wants. It relishes the chance to play back their worst moments in their life, picking apart their choice and their weakness until they must view themself. He sees his mother sick in bed, his father's hatred, a layover from his birth that never healed. He sees the boys terror as his hand smashes his nose leaking blood all over the cobblestones while he wails like an animal. He sees;

He sees...

Gold anchors him in all consuming red as it burns through him. Gold masks, gold temples, gold statues, gold confetti, gold coins, gold banners, gold weapons, gold armor, gold belts, a sole gold offering to the people that they ravage. He is back there in the temple as they rip him apart and a voice urges him, encloses him, he is burning up-

" What fuels you ? "

The Crown Prince, His Highness, my god, Xie Lian— Devotion. A promise. The gold burns into white hot dripping magma that he forms in cupped hands into a delicate flower. He tucks it against his chest and the realm shakes and breaks from it.

And thus a new Supreme was born.

I wanted to draw something for Hualian in the style of my Wangxian Celestial Family, but with obvious differences. I did experiment a bit with leaving the Art Nouveau elements semi-transparent, and I like the stained glass effect it gives off.

Now I should go and finally read that novel.

Why are there so many names for Xie Lian?

Hello, anon!

Well because:

1) 谢怜 Xie Lian -> his name

2) 太子殿下 Taizi Dianxia -> his title (Crown prince)

3) 花冠武神 Hua Guan Wu Shen -> The way people from Xianle used to call him as a God, a reference to his appearance (Flower Crown Martial God)

4) 太子悦神 Tai Zi Yue Shen -> The way people from Xianle and Heavenly officials used to call him after his ascension; because he ascended when he was very young (His Highness Who Pleased the Gods)

5) 花将军 Hua Jiang Jun -> After his second banishment he used a fake name: "Hua Xie." When he was named General (Gobi desert - Banyue) some people used to address him like "general" + "fake name" (General Hua)

6) 哥哥 Gege -> I'm containing to don't scream rn The way Hua Cheng addresses him. This is a VERY VERY INTIMATE way to call someone, imagine you can mix "confidant + partner + brother" in one word... well THAT'S GEGE (big brother)

But the Mourning Pearl had secrets and Hua Cheng had found it useful dividing the truth from legend on the matters of gods. If anything, he wanted to know why he was so a gloomy fuck all the time—
