the mdzs manga announcement is a double edged sword bc on one hand i'm so so so so hyped to have a comic-style adaptation that isn't the manhua bc i'm. allergic to the webtoon-esque vertical scroll style + prefer b&w comics to colored ones stylistically. and also japanese manga means maybe japanese anime adaptation which means even more mdzs figures bc the jp figure companies will finally be forced to acknowledge it exists which means maybe we'll get more of characters who aren't wangxian please i beg of you i want lsz at the very least. on the other hand it's big news for the people who watched the jp dub of the donghua w english subs and i absolutely resent that.
#'but gsc is a japanese company and there are a ton of mdzs good smile figures' they're all by the shanghai branch lol#but back to the point. the amount of people who take chinese 'anime-style' media and try to. for lack of a better word. japan-wash it makes#me so uncomfortable. like . holy sinophobia batman! if you can't speak japanese then why the hell are you on the jp dub . i mean /i/ know#why but the lack of self awareness is apalling. and it's quite honestly pathetic to do it with mdzs bc it's so heavily rooted in chinese#culture and chinese genre expectations. like . it's not the only xianxia ever and pretending it is is just sad#the one victim of this where it happens even more often has to be genshin . like ppl like to pretend the cn and kr dubs don't even EXIST#and treat the jp dub like it's the 'true' form of the game's dialogue . the jp dub . of a chinese game . is the canon version .#do you hear yourself .#inazuma was a mistake i think the addition of jp aesthetics to the game has just exacerbated this issue x1000 . bc every time i see this#shit it's overlaid over a picture of the shogun . normally that one shot of her from her trailer. you know the one.#romeo.txt

GSC Shanghai so quality should be good, but I'm not quite sold on this one yet. Not sure if I love the posing. I'm gonna need to know the size and see a painted prototype + more angles before I make up my mind about this one 🤔

✨F.A.Q.s✨
Q: "Where's the best place to order from?"
This largely depends on where you live and whether or not you want the wall scroll as a pre-order bonus.
For residents of the US (especially those who would like the wall scroll), it would likely be best to order from GSC US. This is because despite it being a bit more costly, you will be paying domestic shipping rates. For residents in Canada, this may also be a viable option, as GSC US does ship there as well. (Unsure of shipping fee, but very likely cheaper than buying through GSC Global).
For those who live elsewhere outside of China, and want the wall scroll, going through GSC Global is best. You could also proxy from Bilibili or GSCS, but it may not be worth the proxy fees.
For those who do not care about the wall scroll, and wish to save some cash, ordering from AmiAmi is a fair bit cheaper. However do note that some shipping methods are currently restricted, though by the time of the figure's release, may be back to normal. US residents, keep in mind that the cheaper price may be offset in the international shipping fee, as the figure is quite large.
Q: "When will I have to pay? Now or later?"
This also depends.
GSC Global takes credit card only, and AmiAmi will invoice you (multiple payment methods available) once your order is ready to ship. They will charge you at the time of shipping, or just shortly before as they prepare to.
GSC US takes multiple methods, but will charge you immediately if you use Paypal/Amazon Pay. They will charge you at the time of shipping if you use credit card.
Bilibili and GSCS require an upfront deposit, and the rest to be paid later.
Q: "Is this price typical for this type of figure."
Yes, it's quite typical. Of course, final judgement on the worth of this is up to the buyer!
Q: "Why is the figure's release date so far away in 2022?"
This is pretty normal for scale figures. Especially since this is a 1/7th figure, it's a bit more complex. (1/8th scale, smaller, are more common.) It's not abnormal to wait a year for a figure's release, nor for it to be delayed, even. Time frames vary a lot in the scale figure collecting community!
Q: "If I miss the pre-order period will I be able to get it later?"
It's hard to say. Sometimes yes, sometimes it's very difficult. It has to do with how much demand there is post-release relative to stock. Once they make the figures, they will not be made continuously. However many they make initially will be all, apart from an unknown quantity of extras. (This can range from a few hundred to thousands, I have no clue.) But basically, once that stock runs out, it will be out of stock permanently. This can take hours to days to years, who knows. Re-releases also only happen in the event of high demand, and are generally few and far between. So you CAN try to get the figure after release, especially if you're lukewarm about it. But if it's something you really want, it's not worth the gamble, in my opinion.
(The pre-order bonus will be unavailable in this case.)
Your best bet post-release would be AmiAmi and other authorized resellers, if GSC itself doesn't have stock.
Q: "If I want to buy from Bilibili or GSC Shanghai, how would I do that?"
You would need to go through a proxy service like SuperBuy, Bhiner, etc. Just keep in mind that the proxy fee will probably offset the slightly lower price.
Q: "Will there be other versions of Xie Lian?"
Probably, but it's hard to say. Depends on popularity!
Q: "Will there be an accompanying Hua Cheng figure?"
Gosh, I sure hope so! :) We must display them together for good fortune and blessings~

There's been a post circulating that gsc plagiarized an artist's clothes for the nendo dolls. Just sth to consider if opening a GO for it.
Thanks for the heads up! Seems like Tencent/GS Shanghai is now aware of the issue and I'll wait for their announcement before I decide whether or not to open it

Y'ALL I'VE BEEN BAMBOOZLED AND I GOTTA CLEAR THINGS UP NOW THAT I KNOW BETTER
1. I found an official image + the concept art for the Yiling Laozu fig... I can't find any information on who the manufacturer is but... y'all the last update on this one was June 2018... it's been almost 3 years... this is one Yiling Laozu that I'm afraid might not be coming out of the Burial Mounds...
2. There 100% was an official announcement that Good Smile Company (GSC) was making a Wanxian scale fig. They initially showed just a sketch and updated with this coloured concept art in October 2020. Sometimes scale figures go months without any news before suddenly going up for preorder so I expect this one is still in the works
The prototype pic in the original post above was posted by a Japanese figure sculptor in August 2020, however I can't find any official link between this prototype and the actual product/company. As far as I can see, no official GSC page ever shared or acknowledged this prototype figure design. The sculptor also seems to have posted several other sculpts that they've just done as a hobby that aren't linked to any commercial figurines, so this might just be one of those...
The sculptor HAS worked on official products (her official works are listed here) and there is some really nice sculpt work there which is probably why I convinced myself this was the official thing, but as far as I can tell she's only ever worked with figure manufacturers Max Factory and Orange Rouge and NOT with GSC
The Wangxian figure is also a GSC Shanghai work who make products for Chinese-made properties, but I don't know if they work with Japanese figure-making talent or if they have their own pool of Chinese makers that they pull from? I don't know about this one
At this point I think that prototype sculpt isn't actually linked to the official product, but in my excitement I'd convinced myself it was :(
I guess the best thing to do now is just wait for an official update on the darn things. GSC tends to show a lot of products off at the biannual Wonder Festival, which has its next event scheduled for late September 2021, so I'd keep an eye out for an update then or whenever the third season of the donghua airs? (or possibly at some random other time when they feel like showing updates)
It's been months since they showed the prototype of the Wangxian scale figure, and like a year since they showed the Yiling Laozu prototype... when am I gonna get an update on either of these... 😔
#SORRY FOR THE MISINFORMATION#BUT I'VE BEEN EXCIDETDLY HANGING ON TO THAT PROTOTYPE FOR MONTHS NOW#AND I FEEL SO CHEATED AND BAMBOOZLED AFTER TODAY#i took a lengthy detour from the assessment that i NEED to finish today to process this#and write this up#i'm UPSET#i hope the official thing looks good a least#imagine if in a couple months it ends up that that WAS the prototype but no one official acknowledged it#because idk they weren't ready to ramp up marketing#ANYWAY I'M UPSET I NEED TO FINISH MY ESSAY#ramblings of a bystander#mdzs
