Potentially major leaks for New Gen Gaia series + Chronicle Rumors
Sources imply that Taguchi would be directing the New Gen Gaia series as the staff department in China has apparently said that he's gathering the old cast of Gaia rn, this was apparently from a recent press conference
This might potentially mean that the New Gen Gaia series might be a sequel to the Gaia series, which if yall recall, Ginga was originally planned to be a sequel to Gaia as well with Gamu being a professor at the University that Hikaru was meant to be attending at
And why did I mention Ginga outta nowhere? Because next year is also Ginga's 10th Anniversary (it's all coming together now)
So yeah, they're literally reusing scrapped concepts, which I'm definitely all for this particular one
Also the first 2 merch for Gaia content in the next Chronicle has been revealed to be Super COV and Gan Q in the same press conference, so that's the confirmation that the next series is indeed New Gen Gaia if yall still needed any
To recap, next year is:
1. New Gen 10th Anniversary
2. Ginga's 10th Anniversary
3. Gaia's 25th Anniversary
4. Taro's 50th Anniversary
Considering that Taro was so popular (technically TsuPro still regards him well, and personally my fav ultra), hope he gets an actual cameo rather than just featuring Birdon or sth like with Pandon for Seven's
Or dare I say, either Super Taro get a new redesign or we finally get to see his Limit Breaker form once he wields the Ultimate Blade (at least a sneak peeks for UGF4 for 2024 as we probably wont be getting it in 2023 thanks to Regulus)
Also, sources say that the name of the next Chronicle would be "Ultraman Heroes G", with Zero again confirmed to be the navigator
Overall, personally very excited for the New Gen Gaia series cause there's so much they can do with it unlike Decker
And especially because its the major anniversary years of my favourite Ultra and Heisei Ultra

Lately I’ve been hearing people talking about BNHA’s editor, but I don’t really understand it? Could you please have a go at explaining it?
okay so first off, just a quick overview on what a manga editor is/does for anyone who’s not aware or has only a vague idea. basically, they more or less oversee the manga, and work with the mangaka to give them feedback on the story and the layout and the pacing and so forth. a good editor will make sure the series stays true to the mangaka’s vision, but will tweak things to make sure the story meets the publisher’s standards, and just generally help keep the story on track. (this is a pretty good video to watch to get a better idea of the weekly manga creation process in general. incidentally that’s one of my favorite Youtube channels and I highly recommend the "day in the life" series if you have any kind of interest in Japan in general; it’s really good and weirdly calming and addictive lol).
different editors have different styles and are good at different things; for instance certain editors may be more hands-on and involved, while others might be more chill and laid-back and pretty much let the mangaka do their own thing. the former might pair well with a mangaka who’s just starting out and needs more guidance, whereas the latter might work better with mangaka who already have a lot of experience and are more sure of themselves. a lot of care goes into making sure the editor and mangaka are a good match, and it’s not unusual for long-running series to have multiple editors as time goes on. a good editor can help elevate a series and filter out bad ideas and really raise the quality of the work; bt on the flip side of the coin, really bad editors can and have been responsible for terrible decisions that have all but ruined stories at times.
anyway, so BnHA has had I think four editors to date. most of what I know about them I gleaned from this interview tbh.
Koike Hitoshi, who was the editor from June 2013 to June 2014
Monji Kengo, who was the editor from June 2014 to December 2017
Yoritomi Ryosuke, who was editor from December 2017 to September 2020
and most recently Taguchi Hikaru, who took over as editor in September 2020 and is the current editor today
moving on to the actual ask now at last, so when you say “lately I’ve been hearing people talking about BnHA’s editor”, I assume you’re referring to the fact that parts of the fandom aren’t entirely happy with Taguchi’s job as editor thus far. so those complaints mostly seem to be centered around three things:
the pacing (although to be fair I’ve seen complaints about the pacing being both too fast and too slow, so I don’t necessarily put a lot of stock in this one)
the increased focus on action/fighting
and lastly and most specifically, an increase in sensationalized storytelling in the form of each chapter having some new big flashy draw (sexy new characters, dramatic plot twists, fancy new quirks, etc.), and a marked increase in cliffhangers, whether they fit in naturally with the story or not
these are all things that editors have a lot of influence over, so there’s definitely some validity to these complaints. although to be fair, a lot of these are also very subjective, and we also have no way of knowing which decisions have come from Taguchi and which have come from Horikoshi. for a lot of people though, Horikoshi has obviously earned more benefit of the doubt than Taguchi has, especially since the previous series Taguchi edited, Samurai 8, was a pretty big flop. (though from what I’ve heard, I’m inclined to put most of the blame for that elsewhere; Jump was basically hoping lightning would strike twice and that the series would succeed just from having Kishimoto Masashi’s name on the cover, but the reality was that it really just wasn’t a very good manga lol.) there’s just not a lot there to inspire confidence, basically, and so he’s an easy target on top of everything else. and apparently one of his comments in an interview (specifically, that the story was going to get even more exciting from here on out) further reinforced those impressions of him putting too much focus on making the series more dramatic and action-y to attract new readers.
all that said, my opinion on the newer chapters isn’t really that negative, and for each chapter that I have disliked (which is mainly 307 lol), there’s been a 284 and a 285 and a 290 and a 299, 301, 302, 306, 310, 312, etc. etc. etc. which I have very much enjoyed (with several of those actually ranking among my favorite chapters ever). so I would say that overall he’s actually been doing a fairly decent job. and I mean, if we’re going to start rating all of the editors based on the worst chapters they’ve ever overseen, then the same editor who was in charge during my two favorite stretches of the manga (83 through 95, and 116 through 121) would be ranked at the bottom of my list because he also happened to be the guy running things during the worst stretches of the Basement arc. or what about Yoritomi, who oversaw the Pro Hero, MVA, and Endeavor Agency arcs, but also permitted Horikoshi to torture us with that one mushroom chapter?? all I’m saying is that all of these guys have had their various low points, lol.
anyways though, that’s basically the short (or my version of “short”) version of the editor stuff as far as I know. all in all, just like with everything else that’s controversial in this fandom, some of the points are reasonable and some are less so imo. the cliffhanger thing is a bit annoying because it’s hard to unsee once you start paying attention to it. but for the most part I think he’s done a decent job thus far, especially given the huge momentum shifts he’s had to preside over, not to mention the fact that the transition happened in the midst of a pandemic.
all said and done, I’m pretty satisfied, and especially given how long of a tenure the previous two editors had, I think he deserves more time to prove himself before we start making final judgments. I mean, not that our opinions make an iota of difference anyway lol, but still.

All Japan began the Dream Power Series 2022 tour yesterday, with a lot of prelude tag matches to coming title matches.

The tour resumes Saturday at Korakuen Hall, with an All Asia Tag Team Championship title match main event between champions Hokuto Omori & Yusuke Kodama v. Dan Tamura & Abdullah Kobayashi.

No offense but I think you overrating how much the editor has a role in how the story has been, shonen jump editors have been known to be not as hands on as they were before and let the author have more control. the problem is more on his health, his editor should offer him a nice break like the jjk editor did..
also tidbit, mangaka usually don’t stay with one editor Especially since MHA is kind of a big story
I’m really aware that editors change. I was wondering why this person was chosen, when he has no previous successes to show for himself, especially for an extremely popular series like this.
Also, I think you’re overestimating how much I am willing to argue about this. And here’s the thing, none of us really know how much impact the editor has. We know that they DO have input though.
But what have we seen? We’ve seen a massive decline in the quality of the story telling since he took over.
The editor has made comments that do NOT sit well with me, or other people who follow BNHA.
The editor also only had one public credential, which is for a manga that was cancelled early. Which, the manga may not have been great. But that does not fare well for this editor.
I’m really not interested in defending the editor here because I really don’t care.
Hori’s health is definitely a factor. I never said it wasn’t. But he’s still producing fucking stellar art, extremely detailed panels, and the same amount of pages each week. And also, he is capable of telling a story. He has shown us that he can. The issue is the dialogue, the narrative content, and the PACING. Which, yes, health. But also, click-and-bait story telling for the sake of getting a reaction, and coming at the expense of the story.
Read this post here to see a little more of what I’m talking about.
If you’re hellbent on defending Hikaru Taguchi, that is perfectly fine. There are probably other blogs talking shit who would be more willing to carry this conversation further. I am not and I’m going to bitch to my heart’s desire because I’m frustrated with the shit quality of the story right now.

One thing that i've never saw talked about is the editor, until i stumble across your blog, what are the major diferences between the first one and the second one? Also, how do you think this new editor can affect the work of Horikoshi?
i honestly don’t know a ton about the editors - however, editors 2 and 3 (Monji and Yoritomi) have had probably the biggest influx on the story, and you can tell how the story shifted under both their editing.
the first editor Koike, was only editor for the conception of MHA as well as chapters 1-3, and i believe also helped a bit with chapter 4 in conjunction with the second editor, so his presence with the story isn’t that visible.
Monji was the second editor, volume 1 to volume 19, and from the looks of it he never wanted MHA it chart into very serious territory - a story that others could pick up even if they didn’t keep up with the story. I guess he intended for it to be more lighthearted? and you can tell this especially when it comes to the Overhaul arc, which suffered many things like pacing, characters themselves and the overall feel of the arc, not to mention Horikoshi’s own health. he seemed to be more hands-on in what went into the story and limited Horikoshi when it came to darker themes and gore. he didn’t want the series to be too graphic.
you can read an interview here that was had with Koike and Monji, concerning the series!
Yoritomi, who was the third editor...you can tell the pacing just changed. the Cultural Festival arc is fun but doesn’t feel like a drag, and it leads directly into the Pro Hero arc. several of the arcs under Yoritomi’s work are considered to be some of the best of the series (Pro Hero, MVA, Endeavor Agency and including the current one), and he on the other hand seems to let Horikoshi do what he wants - or rather, they work together and had similar ideas for where the series should go and how it should be handled. he previously worked as an editor on “The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.”
the newest editor is Hikaru Taguchi! he seems to be either a newer editor, or hasn’t worked with many notable works, and here you can read an interview he had concerning the series he was last editor for, Samurai 8!
I guess there could be a bit of concern with this information...Samurai 8 was a very average story that never lived up to the hype surrounding it (coming from Kishimoto, who’s known for Naruto), and it got axed after about 40+ chapters? However, based off the interview he seems to be more like Yoritomi - he might be more willing to let Horikoshi run with his own thing, considering MHA is a pretty popular series. if anything, the pacing might feel different. (it might fall into a faster/slower pace), but until we see how the series feels with his editing, we won’t know for sure! he seems pretty laid back and tries not to sugarcoat his thoughts, so I trust the series will still be as good with him as the editor.
