useful note-taking tips for heavy content!
hello everyone, it’s been a while. today i’ll be sharing a few tips on how to organise notes with loads of information that i’ve been using religiously (especially in geography and history). i hope this helps!
read the text first
don’t jump right into it without knowing how to structure your notes, if not you’ll have to keep redoing it later. highlighting with a standardised colour code system can help too!
try organising information as how you would actually write it in an exam
since geography and history requires writing a lot of long answers and essays, i organise mine in a table with the standard columns like ‘definition’, ‘point’, ‘explanation’ and ‘example’. it makes answers look organised and easy for the examiners to mark, especially in stressful timed conditions since you’ve already done the planning beforehand.
paraphrase information in the textbook
this makes memorising a lot easier since it is in words you actually understand. additionally, the information in my textbook can be all over the place, hence i paraphrase the information in a cause-effect or step-by-step sequence to standardise it. this also makes it easier for examiners to follow.
use mindmaps to see all the content in one page
since i type out my notes, i may not be able to see the bigger picture as all the information are on different pages. thus, i would make a mindmap for subheadings/ subtopics so that i can see everything at one glance. this is important for heavy-content subjects as there can be many different factors and memorising them individually wouldn’t work. before an exam, i would write in chunks of information in super small handwriting to fit everything in a page and highlight the important points, hence my 23 pages of typed notes can fit into 6 pages. it’s kind of weird but it works for me
reorganise information
yes, you may have organised information from your textbook. now, reorganise it. for example, in history you can make a summary of what different people did in the key events or a timeline, instead of solely having information on the key events. this is especially important in essay writing.
if you have any questions just hit me up!

counting blessings, studyblr edition
having a roof over my head to study in
having the opportunity to go to university
having had role models and peers in my life who pushed me to be driven academically
having had the means to buy assessment books and study guides
having had the means to buy books to encourage my reading habit from a young age
not having to worry about finances to the point where pursuing higher education would be impossible
a little overwhelmed at the moment with uni life, so I’m trying to remember these things and find a different perspective. what are you grateful for?

oh ma lord!!!! thank you!!!!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
could you make an updated list of some of your favorite studyblrs?
Hello hello! I absolutely can. I’ve actually done one of these before, but that could’ve been almost a year ago at this point I have no idea, but the good thing is I go through the blogs that I follow on a quarterly-ish basis, and I make sure I only follow active blogs. This makes it so I know how many blogs I’m really following, why my dashboard doesn’t really have fresh content or content from smaller studyblrs, etc.
So, this list will be blogs that I actually follow and support, ones I love and have great content, as well as ones that I know are active. These are going to be in no specific order, I just tried to organize them by subject/reasoning in my head:
@hannybstudies - Absolutely one of the first blogs I thought of, and for good reason. Hannah is first of all, so sweet, and secondly, posts the most beautiful original content. Her pen pal letters are amazing and her handwriting is art.
@sonderandroses - While we are talking about art: I could write odes about how spectacular Jessie’s content is. The notes, the handwriting, the lettering, I could die. LOOK AT IT. Also a great blog if you are into bullet journaling!
@tacostudy - This is another great one for notes and handwriting! Also the world’s cutest icon.
@piiess - It’s no secret how much I love Pat if you are one of my followers, but in all of my reblogging defense, her content is great. She posts a lot of studyspo, work space photos, notes, and her handwriting is another one of my favorites (especially when it’s Thai/ภาษาไทย even though I can’t understand it).
@stillstudies - Okay so this is Mya, whose beautiful bujo spreads could make me cry, and I believe is a west coaster?? (do not quote me on that omg) She has some more seriously beautiful handwriting.
@stubborn-studies - Another original content poster, beautiful notes, but you will also get great content from other blogs through all of the reblogs.
@mango-juice-studies - Erica!!!!! Another active blog who reblogs a lot of great content and posts original content, PLUS, she is younger than me?? I want to say a senior in high school, but I could be wrong SO again do not quote me lol, the memory only goes so far.
@rivkahstudies - Rivkah will always be a love of mine because we bonded over coffee and she is a langblr! Our only common languages are English and ASL (and my very very limited spanish). Rivkah is an anthropology major!!!!!! Ooh, also bujos!
@smilestudy - This is Jayden (who I almost forgot spells her name differently than my friend yikes) who is actually one of my favorites because I swear every time I find a post I love on my dash, I look to the left and she’s the one who found it. OMG and I almost forgot- has a cat, great cat, 10/10 would recommend.
@peppermint-studign - ANDREW!! Okay so that’s funny to me because literally 70% of the time Andrew and I are messaging each other it’s in all caps. Anyways, this is one that I really wanted to mention because bujo inspo!! If you need any, go click on the link at peppermint-studign.tumblr.com
@birdkostudies - beautybeautybeauty. The original content is much wow. Also, many languages?? More wow?
This list has gotten very long, wow, but would not be complete without me mentioning @thekingsstudy aka my penpal, aka a student pilot, aka a wonderful human who bullet journals and posts cute aesthetic pictures.
Okay, so now that I’ve bragged about all of my favorite people, I hope the end result helps you to find some more content for your dashboard lol.

Is a hot dog a sandwich?
hi anon! no way. there aren’t substitutes for each other because when you’re craving a hotdog you wouldn’t go ‘hmmm a sandwich will do’. you eat hotdogs for the messiness and the big bites and the snap of the sausage and the condiments and everything in between 🤤 i’m gonna make a hotdog for dinner HAHAHAHA thank you for the ask anon!

Hey, it's me, Mika: 18 years old, INTJ and a proud nerd. I've been following several studyblrs these past few months so I finally decided to join the community. I'm a freshman, taking up BS Psychology at CNU (Philippines). I'm still unsure about what path I'll take in the future but my first choice is to become a doctor.
I like to reblog minimalist layouts for I believe that less is more (not that I'm saying other types of journals aren't pleasant to look at). This studyblr will also be my study diary of sorts - where I'll probably rant out, talk about my life or even share funny stories.
You can track me at: #mika-goes-to-uni
GOALS
Short term
Practice minimalism.
Become more productive and organized.
Improve my public speaking abilities.
Strengthen my leadership skills.
Long Term
Achieve as many flat 1s as I can.
Become part of the Dean's list
Graduate with flying honors.
Become an Organization President.
Earn a med school scholarship.
WHY CREATE THIS STUDYBLR?
I don't have good study habits. I don't even have any study habit, to be frank. Last year, I just went with the flow and it became a norm to procrastinate and pass my works late or not at all. It has become this constant loop of disappointment. I know I can achieve things if I work hard for it. I'm thankful for the blessings given to me so I want to use it for the best.
I'm also a scholar in the university I am studying in. This is such a wonderful gift to that I should never waste. In addition, the pressure given to us is sometimes overwhelming because the school is known for its reputation of having top-notchers and generally smart students. Someone who graduated from the school once told me, "The only way you can survive here is to grind every day, work hard and study well."
OTHER INTERESTS
I am also studying Korean - intermediate level.
I am an ARMY (BTS fan) for five years.
I currently on a diet. Hopefully next year, I'll have flat stomach already. Healthy living for the win!
Despite being a massive bookworm, I despise reading romance books.
I also write. I used to write novels but now I can only do poems, prose or short stories. Maybe I'll write a novel in the future.
FAVORITE STUDYBLRS
@mariasdesk , @thomastudies , @emmastudies , @tacostudy , @alistudys , @jungcinema , @notesbynana , @cherryandstudies , @studyquill , @studyblr , @maximumstudy  , @pandastudies, @captainradstudies , @catstudyblr , @cyclicstudies , @studybloop , @studylustre , @gemsttudiess and all the studyblrs I am following
Also fav youtube studyblrs: PaigeY , Holly Gabrielle

tips to fight procrastination
we’ve all been there - that awful feeling when your brain gets hazy, your body heavy, and all you can really do is lie in bed berating yourself. here are some tried and true methods I use to get back to work:
Use a physical activity to reset. Dump all your study materials in a corner and forget about them for 5-10 minutes. Listen to the loudest/most inspiring music you can find, vacuum your room, take a shower. Something that overwhelms the senses and starts your system going. Yesterday, I was in a slump post-breakfast and used BTS’s Don’t Leave Me to reset, and it worked perfectly (I alternate between rock, kpop and musical soundtracks). It doesn’t have to be motivating, as long as it’s energetic and emotional enough to break out of the haze. Dancing to them is even better.
Get out of the bed by breaking down each step. I’m a morning person until the weather gets colder and the bed’s too toasty to get away from. First thing, I try to break down the process - get the blanket off me, sit up, swing my legs over the bed, stand up (or roll off, like I do sometimes when it’s particularly difficult to leave). Breaking it up into the smallest chunks and just going step by step works wonders - whether you’re still sleepy or in a funk.
Get out of bed by setting a time when you wake up. I usually wait for a good number to get out (say I wake up at 8.24am, so the time I’ll be using is 8.30am). The trick is to start moving before it gets to 8.30am; by 8.28am I’m pushing myself up and rolling off the edge - it’s kind of a fun little thing to race against myself and be out before 8.30am. Note: always get out as fast as possible. Don’t even let yourself think about how nice and warm the bed is; when you’re awake you should move, or else you’ll be stuck for the next 2 hours.
Dress for the occasion. Particularly during breaks, or by virtue of being in university, you might find yourself at home a lot. I’m fortunate enough to have a nice enough room to do work in, so I end up staying at home for 1-3 days straight studying, writing, cooking, etc. It might be tempting to be in PJs throughout, but this just puts you in comfort mode literally all the time, and is counterproductive when what you want is to get in The Zone. Brush your teeth, shower, have breakfast, then change into something cute, make a tea or cup of coffee, and get to work.
The first step to writing almost anything should be a brain dump. I’m studying a essay-heavy course, and the biggest thing that makes me spend a whole week on a single 3000-word essay draft instead of 2-3 days is the fact that I always feel like I need to read every single thing I can find on the topic, organise that information, and then start. That’s incredibly demoralising and just the perfect reason to procrastinate. Instead of that, I’ve learnt to type out the essay question on a blank document, and then approach it as if it was my professor putting me on the spot and asking me the question in a lecture or class. If you have no idea what the question means, limit yourself to googling the definitions of certain terms, but don’t check for sources yet. Do it creatively and as best as you can so that you have at least one topic sentence, and then go find your sources. That way, you’ve already cleared the biggest step of the essay process, starting, and have also gotten your brain going without dealing with 27 tabs first.
there are so many tips in the community about how to fight procrastination and get cracking, and I love every one of them, so I decided to compile the things that work for me best. let me know if you find these tips helpful/if you’ve got another way of doing things! will probably do a part 2 in the near future 💕

Lil Hopeful Student
Hi guys ! I already wrote an introduction text but I’m rewriting one because I wasn’t quite satisfied with the old one.
So my name is Océanne ([osean]), I’m 20 years old and I’m from France. I wanted to start this studyblr to actually motivate myself through my revisions and studies (like most of us I guess). However, I don’t really “study” at the moment, meaning I don’t physically go to school. The last two years, I studied something I thought I was into, but I actually wasn’t. I went to two universities, first studying French literature then Linguistics, and quitted, because, even though I thought for years that I was made for those paths, I wasn’t.
So now, I’m actually studying to pass entrance exams to Speech Therapy schools. As I said, I’m not going to a real school, I’m learning with books and workbooks that  bought online to study. And it’s, in fact, reaaally difficult for me, not to learn, but to motivate myself to get my ass off my bed and work. But hey, I want to nail those exams, that I will take in three different cities, from February to May, so I’m going to work, work, work. And hopefully, the studyblr community will help me, even though it’s through pictures and masterposts.
Don’t hesitate to talk to me, I’d love to make new friends here, and learn from one another !
Studyblrs that I like a lot :
