What do the Matoran Guard forces do when there's no external threat to fight? Drill, train, prepare, patrol in all likelyhood, but do they have any roles beyond "defend from threats?" Do they also fulfill the role of police forces, like how the Vahki were both Police and Army? If we take Vakama's thoughts in Maze of Shadows as directly how he implemented the Ta Koro Guard, that might hold true for them but it almost certainly was different on a Koro to Koro basis, nevermind non-Mata/Metru Nui guard forces.
Tumblr media
And speaking of, what about other emergency services? Police/Army is a pretty simple marriage, especially when you're at war, but what about healers, or firefighters for the non fire retardant parts of the MU? Search-and-Rescue, wildfire suppression, non Makuta related Rahi control, etc? Are there offscreen organizations dedicated to handling that, or is it all rolled in with the Guard?

[ID: digital drawing of a young woman in a sports uniform featuring a blue shirt with rolled up sleeves, white pants with bright blue binding around the shins, brown boots with metal toe caps, and a metal helmet, chest plate, and knee guards. She's holding a kolhii stick over her shoulder and smiling. Labels around her tell what parts of the outfit are made from certain materials (protodermis helmet, chest plate, knee guards, and toe caps, leather boots, gloves, and strips on knee guards, flax cloth shirt, pants, and bindings). To the top right it says "KOLHII TOURNAMENT UNIFORM (feat. Hahli)" and on the left it says "flax harvested, spun, and sewn in Ga-Koro; protodermis mined in Onu-Koro, smelted in Ta-Koro, sculpted in Po-Koro; padding feathers gathered and stuffed in Le-Koro; leather hunted, tanned, and cut in Ko-Koro." To the bottom right are 2 chibi heads, one of the same girl in the uniform without the helmet and another girl. The first girl shrugs and says "Still don't see why I can't play barefoot." The other girl smiles and says "You will break all of your toes <3" End ID.]
Finally doodled out a proper idea for the kolhii uniforms in the Bionicle Sports Anime (I need to come up with a better name one of these days). Took some inspiration from real life sports uniforms of various kinds, and the kolhii stick is a mix of the actual toy and the movie version. Also featuring Professional Shoe Hater Hahli and Voice of Reason Macku.
More design notes under the cut!
[Commissions open!]
I really like the idea that because this is an island-wide tournament celebrating the first time of peace in a thousand years, the uniforms are meant to represent that unity as well. Each village had to contribute something to the uniform. Because Hahli is an assistant flax maker, she had to work a lot of extra hours getting all the flax required for all these uniforms on top of learning how to play kolhii.
I didn't label all the places where the uniform is padded because it was starting to get cluttered, but I figure at the very least any parts involving protodermis are padded so there's not (at most) a thin layer of cloth between the skin and solid metal.
The symbol for each village's element is on the sides of the helmets. In Hahli's case, it's water. (I also put them somewhere on the design for each future Inika!)
Originally, the design I had in mind looked a lot more like a soccer uniform with a baseball helmet, but I wanted them to have pants under the knee guards.
I didn't label the kolhii stick's parts because that's less important, and also I couldn't remember what all it's made out of in the MNOLGII. All I remember is the handle is bamboo wood. Even then, I figure materials for that might be different depending on the village where it was made. Po-Koro's sticks might be solid, carved pieces of stone (Hafu originals, of course) while Le-Koro's are made from. Whatever type of wood grows in Le-Wahi. I actually have no idea oops

And these are two different characters. Maybe. Or maybe they're the same character. You don't know. One's a carpenter, the other sells souvenirs. The figures he sells could be made of wood. Or not. Who's to say?
Also look who shows up to watch the Koli games

Tahu marched down the stairs with purpose, mind buzzing with the words Vakama had spoken to him. He loved the Ta-Matoran already; industrious, proud, and tough. Even the smallest of them looked Tahu straight in the eye and spoke from their chest as they regarded him, blunt and sincere. Ta-koro and the way of it's people inspired powerful protective instincts in Tahu. Had it not been for the task ahead, he felt he could have stayed forever, basking in the warmth of the foundry, standing guard over the beating heart of Mata-Nui.
It felt as though he could run forever, fight anything, and never sleep again. The prophesied threat didn't even have a name in Tahus mind, yet he longed to face it. He longed to face nightmares and dare them to stand against him. In his mind, he saw himself blazing white hot, monsters blowing apart before him like paper tossed into a furnace. There was a spreading warmth in his chest and audible hum filling the air. Little waves of heat danced in front of Tahus vision and the edges of his armor began to glow as his body heated.
Of course he would be the leader of the Toa, how could anyone deny him? Lewa had accepted him without question, and every matoran so far had been in complete awe. Tahu was ready to step smoothly into his role as leader of the Toa without challenge. Unburdened by intelligence enough to be cynical about anything, he marched on, humming the song he had heard in the village.

Takanuva should have been allowed to go with the future Mahri to voya nui.
Imagine Takanuva just going "Solar flare!" and blinding Karzahni so his friends could escape in the canisters
Takanuva having to share one and finding out that it's now VERY CRAMPED somewhere along the ride.
Takanuva smiling his mask off seeing the rest of the matoran as toa (Weird zappy toa but still)
Takanuva and Jaller constantly bickering over who's in charge.
"I'm captain of the ta koro guard!"
"Well I've been a toa longer!"
"For what, two weeks?!"
Takanuva also having grabbed Jaller's Hau back so we get to see THAT inika-fied.
(Whether takanuva gets inikafied is up for debate.)
THINK FAST, CHUCKLEHEADS! Takanuva constantly blinding the piraka.
Velika staring at takanuva thinking "Of course it's that one that ended up as a toa."
Takanuva, to Umbra: "You're the guardian. the guardian for the ignika. The guardian made of light specifically to guard the ignika, that guardian. ...Yeah I think I've got this one."

A line that always gets me in Mask of light is Jaller asking "would could have done this to them" in regards to the frozen Bohrok.
I don't know captain of the Ta-koro guard, maybe of of those six legendary toa heroes that live on the island, the one that controls the ice and cold, the one who's home you've been wandering around in since crashing there.

Thinking about Human AU stuff; namely, clothes.
Basically, manufactured Toa (e.g Helryx or the Mata) have specially-designed outfits (although the Mata's have degraded by the time they've reached Mata Nui, so they wear outfits designed by their respective villages' Matoran with added armour built by the Toa themselves), whereas transformed Toa (e.g the Metru and Mahri) have more-impressive versions of whatever they were wearing when they changed from Matoran to Toa.
List of ideas for the main 3 Toa Teams below.
Mata
Tahu - Hauberk (pun not intended) under a red breastplate with the Ta-Koro emblem on it, along with chainmail trousers with metal plating, a pair of armoured boots, and a back-mounted sheath for his sword.
Gali - Chest-wrap made of dried seaweed and a pair of simple cloth shorts, worn underneath armour made from the blue shells of local crustaceans, the largest of which has the Ga-Koro symbol painted onto it.
Onua - Loose trousers tied at the waist and ankles, with angular vambraces made of black stone with the Onu Koro emblem carved into them.
Lewa - Tunic made of leaves with light armour-plating made of wood, with the Le-Koro emblem painted on the right shoulder.
Pohatu - Rough shorts with polished stone kneepads, the right one of which has the Po-Koro emblem carved into it; the Foot Extensions take the form of bulky boots, with the toe made of thick metal.
Kopaka - fur-trimmed armour with a large cloak that has the Ko-Koro emblem on the back, and a hip-slung sheath for his sword; also an articulated triple-lens eyepiece.
Their Nuva forms all have near-identical silver armour (albeit modified to fit their respective body-types), but with elements of their Mata outfits incorporated into the unarmoured parts. The Adaptive Armour is worn in place of their standard Nuva armour, and basically just looks like more "solid" versions of their '08 designs.
Metru
Vakama - Dark-red tabard with glowing yellow trim over an orange shirt, along with black trousers, dark-grey workboots and high-tech red gauntlets; originally the apron, shirt and gloves that he wore as a Mask-Maker.
Nokama - I don't actually have an idea for this; originally her Teacher uniform.
Whenua - Large, black cloak, with a suit of high-tech grey armour underneath with green trim; originally his Archivist robes and protective gear.
Matau - A sleek green-and-grey jumpsuit, with red glowing magnetic disks on the shoulders to store his Aero Slicers; originally his Test-Driver jumpsuit.
Onewa - A high-tech helmet, armoured vest and kneepads with glowing blue trim, over a dark-grey jumpsuit; originally the protective gear from his job as a Carver.
Nuju - Long, flowing white coat with a glowing cyan trim, worn with a black shirt, grey flared trousers, black dress-shoes and a glowing cyan eyepiece; originally his outfit from when he was a Scholar.
Mahri
Jaller - Essentially a heavily-armoured diving-suit, with a crab-shaped chestplate; originally his Ta-Metru Guard uniform.
Hahli - Somewhere between a Victorian-era Standard Diving Dress and a more modern diving-suit, with mechanical, collapsible "wings" on the back; originally her normal clothes.
Nuparu - A sleek-looking armoured wetsuit with a rebreather and goggles; originally the outfit he wore while building and testing his inventions.
Kongu - a bulky, futuristic diving-suit with a large headlamp on the back of the helmet; originally his pilot gear.
Hewkii - Pretty much just high-tech swimming-trunks with spiked kneepads, as well as a bulky gauntlet on his right arm, and a rebreather-mask; originally his sports gear.
Matoro - Basically the same as Nuju's, but more suitable for the ocean; originally a spare Scholar uniform.
Similar to the Toa Nuva, their Inika forms have very similar armour to each-other, but incorporating elements of the clothes they were wearing when they managed to leave Karzahni. After becoming the Mahri, their outfits turn into what they'd have looked like if their transformation had occurred under normal circumstances, similar to how the Metru's clothes work, albeit modified by Nuparu to become more viable underwater. Also, after moving from Mata Nui to Metru Nui, they replaced most of the clothes they wore on Mata Nui with aesthetically-similar ones that better matched the city's retrofuturistic/Solarpunk aesthetic.

Map out your future – but do it in pencil. The road ahead is as long as you make it. Make it worth the trip.
You, Takua, have bravely decided to flee Ta-Koro to avoid falling into the inescapable trap most Matoran refer to as "work". Hopping onto your faithful steed, and best crab buddy, Pewku, your charge into the glorious unknown.
But you also make a brief side trip to kidnap Jaller from yet another guard shift where he stares at lava and rocks all day. He needs to get out more, and you both need a relaxing road trip to forget about the trauma of work. What could possibly go wrong?
Pewku happily seizes Jaller from behind in her claws ("stop screaming, it's just me!") and races you both out the village gates. Charging through the charred jungle, you give a friendly wave to Kapura and onward toward adventure!
Jaller, finally struggles out of Pewku's claws and onto her back with you. After giving you a sour look, he asks you where you're dragging him this time?

Jaller is so awesome in this scene. The Toa have been missing for months, and the Turaga condescend him, refusing to answer. But he isn't intimidated. He was the captain of the Ta-Koro guard! He throws down his tools, and demands answers. When he doesn't get them...
"All right. When you are ready to treat the Matoran with respect, let us know. Until then, no one is doing any more work. Metru Nui was in ruins for a thousand years… another thousand won’t hurt.'"

A bunch of Bonkles fanart I whipped up some time based on background characters from the games, mainly the (officially) unreleased Legend of Mata Nui game but also the GBA game that actually did get released, Quest for the Toa. Barring Podu and Nobua, none of these guys were provided with names, so I took it upon myself to come up with some for them. I should note that I’m operating with the idea that there’s a more even sex distribution throughout the tribes (even if the Ga-Matoran are still predominantly women) and as always, credit goes to @agatharights for coming up with the Matoran baseline that I’ve come to work off of.
Podu: Among the toughest of the Po-Matoran, Podu is an active member of the Po-Koro guard, protecting his people from whatever threat may emerge from the sea of sand. Though not as renowned an athelete as Hewkii, Podu is still quite accomplished as a Kohli player, possessing a powerful kick that can plow through any opposing team’s defense. Loyal and stubborn in equal measure, Podu will insistently plug away at a task until it’s done, though this does give him considerable tunnel vision, leaving him oblivious to very real threats to his own safety until they’re right on top of him.
Harena: Harena is something of an oddity. A traveling Matoran, he spends his time attending to the Vuata Maca trees in each village, ensuring they’re all healthy and producing enough fruit to sustain the Matoran there. Though by all accounts friendly and outgoing, he never seems to stay in one place for too long, constantly hopping around to keep an eye on each village’s tree. The other Matoran are typically glad to provide him with hospitality whenever he arrives, but when asked where his home is, his response is a vague “I go where the winds of fate take me.”
Nobua: The youngest child of Turaga Whenua, Nobua has great dreams and aspirations, no doubt inspired by the adventures of the wandering Ta-Matoran Takua. He’s particularly fascinated by the legends of the Toa and hopes that one day he’ll get the chance to meet one of them in person. Still too young to help out in the mines directly, he often helps his father out with administrative work.
Ombak: A rare non-hybrid Ga-Matoran born biologically male, Ombak is an accomplished surfer... and under an immense amount of pressure to pick a spouse so as to potentially keep the genetic strain going. Problem is, he doesn't really click with any of his suitresses and seems to have eyes elsewhere.
Tauraki: Very few Po-Matoran would earnestly profess to prefer the floating village of Ga-Koro to their desert home, but Tauraki has never been comfortable in the arid Po-Wahi and has made no secret of his desire to move to a more temperate climate. Unlike most of his kin, he's readily thrown himself at swimming lessons courtesy of regular visitor Macku, which she provides in exchange for sneaking her into the village to see Hewkii.
Phiri: An artist at heart dreaming of following in the footsteps of Kopeke, the only thing holding Phiri back... is her own crippling lack of self-confidence. Believing herself to be no good at the craft of ice sculpting, she instead resigns herself to sentry duty at the village's borders, where she's clearly bored out of her mind.
Iskra: The resident gossip of Ta-Koro, Iskra is on top of the rumors going around the village, regardless of their basis in the truth. She's excellent at spinning a yarn, however, and is incredibly charismatic. Vakama wishes she would stop and check her sources every once in a while.
Sekhala: A Po-Matoran athlete, Sekhala is an accomplished goalie who aspires to one day outclass Hewkii himself. Her boisterous nature is endearing to many of her compatriots, though annoying to others.
Beku: An oddly-colored Ko-Matoran, Beku isn't quite as well adjusted to the cold as his fellow tribesmen. Like Tauraki of Po-Koro, he's considered moving out to another village, one with a warmer climate and a more open and welcoming atmosphere.
Alavai: A Ga-Ko Hybrid, Alavai prefers cooler waters and can often be found near the base of Ko-Wahi swimming in its streams. Turaga Nokama can't help but see aspects of the late Toa Mangai Kanae in her, though she can't bring herself to say anything on the matter.
Handaki: An Onu-Matoran miner, Handaki's arms double as pistons that allow him to pound his way through solid rock. A serious, focused sort, Handaki is a dedicated worker and, off shift, a quiet, contemplative sort who puts his hands towards more delicate tasks like painting.
Moli: One of the Takara dancers of Ta-Koro, Moli prides herself on her mastery of expressing concepts through movement. She keeps close contact with the other dancers of the village and will often collaborate with them for mutual benefit.

Matoran of Pazu Nui
Some Matoran characters I have made.
Parahi - A brash and adventurous Ta-Matoran welder who dreams of something more. He often flunks off work to go off on adventures.
Hauma - A quiet and insecure Ga-Matoran fisherman, Hauma rarely sets foot outside of the waterways of Ga-Koro, and is afraid of most terrestrial Rahi.
Makiki - A stolid and serious guard, tracking Le-Koro for hostile and troublesome individuals and Rahi.
Urupa - A tireless and humble Po-Matoran landscaper, whose specialty is foundations work.
Paru - A boisterous if reckless miner, whose sunny demeanour is unusual for the usually-subdued Nu-Matoran.
Korewa - A Ko-Matoran ranger whose attentiveness and excellent memory have saved many lost in the mountains and glaciers of Ko-Koro.

if someone was on the fence abt checking out any of your hyperfixations, what would you tell them to persuade them to actually look into it?
basically: what do you think are the best points/parts of the hyperfixes?
Ooh, this is an interesting question! (Thank you for asking it!) I'll have to put some thought in my answer to this one. Or, since you guys are reading this after I've written it, I will have put some thought into this answer xD
Anyways! I'll go through each hyperfixation I mentioned in the QnA post piecemeal, starting with...
(continued under the cut because this one turned into kinda long one, whoops)
BIONICLE
I've already talked at about as much length as I've been able to get away with about Bionicle on this blog, including this post where I do my best to surmize the entire Bionicle canon, and this post where I was asked to show off my Bionicle collection. (Good times xD)
If someone's on the fence about Bionicle, I'd be honest and tell them that it's a story spread out of a great deal of expanded media (toys, comics, online serials, movies, and videos) that was all released between 2001 and 2010. Not that it'll be impossible to consume the story and enjoy it, but it might get a bit finnicky. xD
If you're willing to give it a try, though, you'll be met with, in my obviously biased opinion, a really damn good story. The fact that it's so sprawling, and there are so many smaller stories in it, means that the world feels incredibly realised, and there's probably at least half a dozen serials and comics that fit the exact tone your looking for; whether that tone is 'character gets cut in half by an interdimensional portal that closes on them while they're only partly through', or 'character makes a canon "I use two guns because I have two hands" joke'.
The real strength of the story, though, is that it's very cheesy in a lot of ways, but it's played straight enough, and delivered with enough heart, that it becomes very earnest and a joy to experience. It feels like a classic 'epic' story, akin to something like Lord of the Rings - in LOTR, Aragorn leads the Army of the Dead to save the besieged Minas Tirith from Sauron’s Orcs, and in Bionicle, Jaller leads the Ta-Koro Guard and the Gukko Force to save the Chronicler’s Company from the Rahi. It's that kinda vibe, you know? There's a lot of weird and crazy stuff inside (both in a whimsical sense and in a horrifying sense), but it's played straight, internally consistent, and manages to be cool more often than not. If that sounds like you're thing, then I think Bionicle might be worth checking out :)
TLDR BEST PART: 'Epic' story told across multiple media that's a lot of fun digging into
FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS
Oh, Fallout: New Vegas, my beloved. The more experienced with RPG videogames I've gained over the years, the more convinced I've become that New Vegas is the best RPG videogame. Ok, if you're on the fence about New Vegas, here's what I'd say: the level of narrative control that the player gets is incredible.
A lot of RPG games have an issue where you're kinda railroaded into a plot. To use other examples from the same series; in Fallout 3, you being from a vault with a scientist father is a non-negotiable aspect to your character. (And you probably murdered a whole bunch of security guards to actually leave the vault, whoops.) In Fallout 4, the game's entire plot hinges on whether you give a toss about your kidnapped son - if you don't, or you want to play a character that doesn't, there's a real lack of immersion in so much of the world you interact with, because the game takes for granted the idea that you're invested in the story they've come up with.
In Fallout New Vegas, you are linked to the plot by a single inciting incident (that I won't spoil here because I think it's kinda cool to experience lmao). You wake up, you spend like 8 minutes (or 30 seconds if you know what you want from the get-go) making your character, you leave the building you start in, and from then on, you have total narrative freedom. The plot runs entirely off of your own initiative - if you want to, you can go track it down from the get go (and most people do, because it's a good plot hook that raises a lot of intriguing questions), but if you want to, you can also ignore it completely!! You can follow it in multiple different ways, too - either following clues around the long end of the map, or beelining it through the most dangerous parts of the map straight to the city of New Vegas. And the way the dialogue and characters are written not only accounts for the choices you might make, but also doesn't PRESUME that you're going to deal with this plot, and doesn't force you to keep focusing your character on it all the time. It only comes up when other characters - who were involved in the plot before you ever came along - want to get you involved for their own benefit, and even then, you can feasibly tell 'em all to get stuffed if you want!
I've played through New Vegas like,,, 5-ish times, and I've gone in a different direction from that spawn more or less every time, and I've STILL had a fulfilling RPG experience that I can create a story out of every time so far! It almost feels like a sandbox game, and it's so weird and refreshing. For that aspect alone, I'd say it's worth giving a look! :D
(Also, uh, the actual plot and all of the side quests are really good, and the characters are really great and compelling, and the 4 story DLC are all separate experiences but also have their own interconnected story that coalesces into the last one which is really fuckin cool, and you can go on a mission to find a new brain for a cyborg dog that belongs to a leader of a gang of Elvis Presley impersonators, and also "Nobody's dick's that long. Not even Long Dick Johnson, and he had a fucking long dick, hence the name" is an actual line of dialogue. Just please play New Vegas if you have any interest in story-driven videogames. I'm begging ya.)
TLDR BEST PART: ludicrous amounts of player freedom to engage with a really well-written story how they see fit
MASS EFFECT
Uh, yeah. Me bigging up another RPG videogame right after I just said that New Vegas was the best one is probably a bit weird, huh? (Especially bc I stand by that statement, New Vegas slaps, go play it)
But here's the thing. Mass Effect does essentially drag you along on a story it's telling. But the story it's telling is - for the most part! - really fucking compelling and well-put-together. It's this big, longform story set in a Star Trek universe (intimate and interesting sci-fi detail) with Star Wars protagonists (interesting, violent, madcap characters), and as someone who's had a lot of fun with modern science fiction, it hit really well for me xD
Actually, I'd take it further than 'hit really well' - I honestly have no idea why it worked for me specifically, but it was the most engaging and, like, visceral gaming experience I can remember having. Project Overlord had me hunched over a sink genuinely worried I was gonna throw up, the Citadel DLC had me laughing out loud and gleefully liveblogging my whole experience to my friends who'd already played it, and the ending - lame as I'd heard it was gonna be - still left a pit in my gut, in a good way.
(I think in my case it helped that I played it with the perfect level of contextual knowledge vs. going in blind. I did my first playthrough with the Legendary edition (all 3 games + all DLC in one remastered package), so I wasn't missing out on anything, and I knew going in that the ending was bad enough that people were complaining about coloured lights almost a decade down the line, which meant that I'd built it up enough in my head that when it happened I was like "oh, that wasn't actually that bad".)
My TLDR is that it's a really really engaging story with some ESPECIALLY amazing character work (oh, man, the characters/companions and the dynamics you can build with them basically make this trilogy). Just get the legendary edition (because some of the best companions are technically DLC, because fuckin' EA), get a friend who's played it before to nudge you and make sure you don't miss any of the little details, and assume that the ending sucks, and I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. :D
(Also the 4th game (Andromeda) isn't as bad as a lot of people say it is but my fixation here is really on the original trilogy, so that's what I'm referring to with this one. Fingers crossed for the 5th installment!)
TLDR BEST PART: Fun adventure with really well-realised characters that grips you emotionally in a way that few videogames (to my knowledge) have been able to lay claim to
WARRIOR CATS
I think the most interesting thing about this series is that it's pretty raw? for a series that's marketed to children?? I'm aware that's not a unique thing, I know about Animorphs and Watership Down - and hey, I grew up on The Clone Wars - but it's still noteworthy! And what's cool about it in Warrior Cats, like it is in these other media, is that it doesn't really feel forced, or gratuitous, or even necessarily contradict the fact that it's media aimed at a younger audience (even if I'm not sure they wouldn't have gotten away with some of the stuff they did if it wasn't done with cats lmao).
The main plot compliments these darker elements as well - it's essentially a character drama built around secrets and political espionage, as well as an outsider's perspective clashing with longstanding traditions; exploring why those traditions are in place, but also what kind of damage they can cause.
And hey, the characters are good too! I'd argue that the 'Clan' dynamic hits its peak in the first series (the first 6 books) and never really reaches the same heights in later series, but I think every story arc so far has had multiple characters that people have really enjoyed. The fact that the entire series has taken place over -multiple generations- at this point is something that a lot of other media doesn't get the chance to do, and it serves a lot of Warrior Cats' longform storytelling really well (even if some of the writing decisions that the authors have made over the decades have been [???] lmao).
TLDR BEST PART: Longform dramatic storytelling that has some really compelling character and plotwork, and also has some grim shit happen without going over-the-top or being obnoxious about it
(Personally I'd recommend just the first 9 books in the series - that's the 'Prophecies Begin' series and the first half 'New Prophecy' series - because I think that's Warrior Cats at its peak, but there's things to enjoy in every story arc if you want to read further ^_^)
-

---
Aand that's me talking about those hyperfixations I mentioned! Sorry it took so long to finally publish an answer to this ask - a lot of thought went into this one xDD

The lower one is skinny, with a light brown tunic over loose black pants, and brown sandals. He has one arm behind his back and the other hand to his chest with a smug expression. A text box beside him reads "HAFU, master carver, left hand of Turaga Onewa, "ANotHEr hAFU ORigiNAL" (plain text: another Hafu original), smug and insufferable, the perfect man." End ID.]
Concepts for the Bionicle Sports Anime/MNOLGII comic!! I think Takua's is my favourite honestly lol. Gonna do the rest of the kohlii teams next and then some uniforms maybe!
Some notes about village fashions under the readmore!
[Commissions open!]
Ga-Koro Fashion: I figure Ga-Koro is warm and humid, but still can get cold at night. Ga-Koronans tend to wear warmer clothes for sleeping, but cooler clothes during the day. They also tend towards clothes that dry quickly, aren't super uncomfortable while wet, and/or can be removed easily before swimming, like Hahli's wetsuit/wrap combo. They also mostly wear sandals since it's not the end of the world if those get wet. Hahli prefers going barefoot since she's constantly in and out of the water gathering materials for Amaya anyway, and she's lost or destroyed so many sandals that way that it's just easier to not wear them at all.
Ta-Koro Fashion: Ta-Koro is fucking hot, but most of the people who live there are used to it. They generally dress in lighter fabrics, with short sleeves and sweatbands being common. The terrain is rocky as well, so shoes with decent soles are a must. As usual, the main outlier here is Takua, who doesn't handle Ta-Koro's heat as well as the others ~for some reason~ but also frequently mixes in clothing types from other villages due to how much he travels.
Po-Koro Fashion: Like Ga-Koro, Po-Koro is hot during the day and cold at night. It's a much drier heat, though, being a desert. Light, loose clothes are practically required, and often several layers of them are worn at night. Pants tend to have elastic, drawstring, or some other form of binding around the legs to help keep sand from getting in there. Sandals are best for Po-Koro as well, unless you're playing kohlii of course!

It's genuinely impressive how awful Deviantart's search function is. At least with like, Youtube or Google you get something kind of related to what you're looking for even if it isn't exactly what you want, and Tumblr has a 50/50 chance of deciding that what your searched for doesn't exist, but Deviantart is just on a whole other level I feel.
Tumblr media
This was the result for a search for "Ta Koro Guard", by the way. No random BIONICLE art, not even anything Lego, unless you want to count Lego Star Wars. Why the fuck is it like this?

Pohatu hopping into Ko-Koro with his feet frozen to this tiny shield like "Guys pls does anyone know how to melt ice in sub-zero temperatures"
Ko-Matoran be like "..." [oh god will this guy never learn]
One day it's just a fully frozen Tahu sliding into the city somehow balancing delicately on the shield
No Ko-Matoran is stupid enough to defrost him in the middle of their beloved city and face his temper there, so they just slide him further down Mount Ihu until he reaches the Ta-Koro guards
I love Kopaka using his shield as a sled for Matoran like he does with Jaller and Takua. It's a shield but also his emergency escape mechanism. I imagine him ordering a Matoran to leave a dangerous part of the mountains and go back home, and when he refuses, Kopaka freezes his legs down and just slides him down the mountainside. Very angry Ko-Matoran scowling and crossing his arms as he spins in circles back towards the village. Everyone watches him go and knows he got in trouble with the Toa. Kopaka sometimes wishes he could do the same thing to a certain Toa who likes to follow him around, but he'll need a bigger shield

@ask-the-ta-koro-guard (Will add proper title when I get home, am on mobile atm)
Shadik slowed his pace the closer he came to the village of fire. He was always nervous when visiting the agori/matoran villages. Rarely did he venture outside of the small camp he had made for himself, in part to a creeping fear that he wasn't fully accepted. Even in the case of the water village, which has probably seen him the most due to his friendship with Hahli, Shadik couldn't shake the nagging self doubt that despite being made a Toa by Mata Nui, his dark powers cast a shadow he would never escape from. This was why he had ventured to Vulcanus, to seek out another Toa or Glatorian and expand his list of allies beyond Hahli and a Dermis Turtle.
Entering the village went without issue. The agori standing guard mistook him for a Toa of Earth, a mistake Shadik welcomed for the time being. Still, it wasn't long before the feeling of eyes cast upon him crept into Shadik mind. He could almost swear he heard matoran whispering about what he was and why was he here. By the time he reached his destination, the home of Toa Mahri Jaller, the Toa of Shadows felt drained; propping himself up with the golden long sword he now carried, Shadik softly knocked on the door.
