Six Sentence Sunday: Another Sych Ch 8 Snippet

Sadly my progress is not nearly as fast as I would like so I haven’t been able to make too much headway on the next chapter. but I have been thinking a lot about it and managed a couple snippets the other day…

It’s short but hope you’ll look forward to when I am finally able to update this again…. I really can’t wait myself (lol i wanna read the new chapter too 😂😭)

But everything basically leads to Sebastian getting very close to dying, and this scene is basically Tanaka not wanting to accept this.

Even when Sebastian had been hospitalized in ICU, Tanaka couldn’t remember him being connected to so many tubes and wires and machines. But back then he hadn’t known one from the other, and sadly, now he could identify each type of pump by sight. Even from a distance, he had an idea what each IV bag held as their contents slowly dripped.

The room was too silent except for the air flowing through the tubing of the bipap that kept Sebastian breathing, the occasional blip of one of the monitors as his vitals shifted, and Agni’s tall form as he worked. They rarely spoke. It felt too much like how people behaved at a funeral: somber and silent, and he hated it.

Sebastian was dying.

The child he loved with every cell in his body was steps from death and all Tanaka could do was help Agni care for him and hold his hand. And pray. And beg him not to give up.

Not yet.

He pulled Sebastian’s limp hand to his lips and kissed the clammy skin. This wasn’t like previous hospital stays or even fever crises. Sebastian was so weak it was like his life was a candle at risk of being snuffed out any moment.

“Please,” Tanaka whispered in Japanese.

Looks like I might be getting an Xbox pretty soon. And maybe, 6 months game pass. I didn't want a game pass, planned just buying games I needed (one game, you know which one), but one local shop has some really nice offer with it included. Maybe it's a good idea - to try something else as well, and then buy it if I really like it.

(oh my, didn't plan it before the winter break... I don't have much time for gaming right now... ).

Six-Sentence Sunday: Synchronize AU, Ch 8

So I know I barely wrote anything in 2024 and it’s been nearly 2 years since I was able to update Synch, but I’ve never stopped thinking about this story and I absolutely want to finish it.

I finally was able to assemble all the disparate pieces/scenes into an order more or less, and I was able to write one scene!, so I am hoping this means I’ll be able to update with something soonish, but again, no promises.

The story so far: Sebastian has been weaned off steroids and despite growing stronger in many ways, his swallowing muscles weaken to the point he’s no longer allowed anything by mouth. But he’s struggling to tolerate the tube feedings, and the last week has been dealing with severe GI symptoms and pain unlike anything he’s ever experienced. And Agni, caught up in his own anxiety, slips too far into nurse mode and fails to truly listen to why Sebastian is so upset…

Anyway, a tiny taste for the 2 people who still care about this story:

Sebastian lay on his side in bed, curled into a relaxed fetal position, Tanaka holding one of his hands as he tried to count in his head, hoping to slip into sleep.

When he felt this bad, he couldn’t think clearly enough to imagine and escape in his mind the way he might other times, which made these moments so much worse. He was too sick to watch TV or play a game or even follow the story that Tanaka was telling him as a way to try and distract him.

And the sad thing about this was, he was in a lull right now. That uncomfortable, heavy feeling in his core lingered, like someone had filled his abdomen with jello. The nausea hovered, always just beneath the surface, blending with the tension and anxiety of not knowing if he’d be able to fall asleep before the next bout of cramps and spasms hit.

Didn’t help that his rashes hurt, his skin irritated and inflamed in some of the most sensitive areas of his body. Agni was treating them with various medicated lotions, but they only seemed to get angrier. It would be better if his skin could be given the chance to breathe, but his fever had been hovering in the region of obnoxiousness ever since he weaned off the last of the steroids. Not so high his life was in danger or his mind was bleary— its own escape— but high enough to coat him in an almost content sheen of cold sweat. His body in a perpetual battle between sizzling and shivering.

Both Tanaka and Agni were attentive, but they were still human.

Tanaka sighed and temporarily laid the beat-up picture book on his lap. A well-loved copy of Momotarou, in colorful, large hiragana that Sebastian remembered fondly from his childhood. “I always loved this story. Sometimes I feel a little like the old couple, since I never imagined I would ever have a son, and I definitely consider you a gift from the gods.” He leaned in and brought Sebastian’s fingers to his lips, kissing them tenderly. “You’ll get through this rough patch, I know you will.”

Sebastian managed a faint smile, but he didn’t believe his adopted father’s words. He couldn’t. He’d never been sick like this before. He’d never lost his ability to to swallow so completely. He’d never—

Sebastian moaned as he felt a sharp cramping pain in his lower abdomen. No. It was starting again already?

I had the stupidest AU idea where Kallus is a ballet dancer, and Zeb is a hip hop dancer. Kind of like a reverse flash dance because that movie sucks.

Kallus lives his entire life around an extremely rigid schedule. His parents put him in ballet when he was about 3, but he just loved it, so he stuck with it. Unfortunately, as he got older he had to push himself farther and harder to keep up. Plus, keeping up with the very strict body regulations is very difficult for someone of his size, so his attempts to keep his weight down manifest in some very unhealthy ways. Also Thrawn shows up as a new choreographer and just starts bullying everyone, buy he really hates Kallus (I haven't quite figured out why yet, but dance teachers don't always need a reason to hate you)

Zeb has been a long time member of Ghost Alliance Gym, where he teaches hip hop classes with the specter dance group (him Kanan and Hera are all like co teachers). It's a fun after-school rec program to give kids something to do, so it's way more affordable and less snooty than Imperial Dance up town. Zeb actually used to be in a cultural dance group years ago, until the school was forced to shut down (I'm going to pretend that lasat dancing is like Ukrainian dancing because that's what I have the most experience with, and it's my AU and I can do what I want).

They meet when they both go to the shoe store because they wore holes in their dance shoes.

Zeb: so you're a dancer?

Kallus: how perceptive *but in kind of a flirty way*

Zeb so what kind of dancing do you do, like zumba?

Kallus: *slightly offended* no, I dance! Not 'cheerleading', not 'jazzerscize'. Dance!

(Based off a real conversation my mom had with her co-worker)

Eventually Kallus has to decide if he's gonna go support Zeb and go watch his performance at the rec-center, or follow his contract and perform the Nut Cracker (hehe) at the theater.

Zeb has to decide if he's going to go support Kallus and watch him in the theater, or be in his little holiday concert. Even though at this point they're fighting, they still care about eachother.

I don't know, I thought this would be a fun holiday story based off my 16+ years of dance experience (including but not limited to hip hop, tap, ballet, Ukrainian, acro and more). But no one was ever as mean to me as Thrawn is to Kallus, and I never worried about how my body shape fits into the dance.

Again from the sebagni Synchronize AU, also from a flashback of Tanaka’s when he first came to work for Vincent, many years ago:

Sebastian watched, fascinated, as Tanaka demonstrated how to make a simple origami cat head. Just a few quick, practiced folds, a marker to add a face, and it was done. He showed it to Sebastian, who glowed with excitement.

“I wanna make one!”

Tanaka chuckled fondly. “Of course. Pick your favorite color and I’ll help you.”

“Daddy! You make a kitty too!”

Vincent checked his watch but chuckled fondly and joined them at the table. As they worked to fold their papers the way Tanaka instructed, he asked in Japanese, “So, will you take the job?”

Tanaka smiled at how happy Sebastian was, making his own cat, and replied, “Yes. Yes, I think I will.”
