Thank you to everyone who helped get Synchronize to 300 kudos!
This may seem like nothing, but that’s my second-highest number of kudos of all my stories, which I’m proud of since it’s only been around ~12 months, and I’ve had a very rough time, health wise, the last few years.
If you enjoy emotional hurt/comforf, I think you’ll really enjoy the story if you haven’t read it yet.
You can read ch 1-7 on AO3.

Six-Sentence Sunday: Synchronize AU, Ch 8
I’m sadly still quite a long way off from finishing the next chapter, but I was finally able to write a little for it the other day, so here’s a small sample.
This scene is basically one in which Sebastian is having issues swallowing and Agni decides to step in, which leads Sebastian into admitting something.
Agni was always observant, and the instant he heard Sebastian coughing, he was at his side, a concerned expression on his face. “Are you having swallowing problems today?”
Sebastian couldn’t meet Agni’s eyes. “I’m fine. I just need some water.”
Agni frowned but nodded and left to get him some.
Sebastian stared at the cup in his hand, setting it on the over-bed table in front of him. He tried to swallow again and felt like he had to use his tongue and accessory neck muscles to execute it. He shut his eyes tight and swore in his mind. He was supposed to be better. He was stronger. He could sit up unsupported for a short amount of time and even transfer to his chair from bed on his own.
This felt like a slap in the face. He didn’t want to believe it. Maybe he was just tired?
“Here you go,” Agni said, offering him the cup with a straw. “I’m going to put my hand on your throat, but swallow normally.”
Sebastian acted indifferent, but he was scared. And pissed. He hesitantly took a sip of water; it felt like it took five or six swallows when it should have easily passed with only one. And he’d barely finished when he began to cough again, several times, enough that Agni took the cup away.
“You’re NPO until Dr. Albrecht clears you,” he said with authority, taking both cups away, meaning that Sebastian wouldn’t be allowed anything by mouth—not food, drink, or medicine. “I’ll give you your medication via your g-tube and go prepare a liquid meal for you once I’ve done that.”
“No,” Sebastian said, his fingers bunching in the blankets. He coughed again since it felt like the water was still stuck in his throat, even though he knew he had to be imagining it. “Please, Agni.”
Agni paused, cups in each hand, staring down at Sebastian, his face sympathetic, and yet stern. “Aspiration pneumonia is serious. This isn’t negotiable.” Basically, if Sebastian’s mouth and throat muscles were weak, it meant he couldn’t prevent food, liquid, and saliva from going down into his lungs. If that happened enough, it could lead to infection and even death.
Sebastian said nothing else as he watched Agni move, suddenly feeling crushed by despair. It had been foolish to hope, he’d known it.
But Agni made things different, somehow. As odd as it might seem, the one who’d come to care for all the needs he couldn’t attend to alone somehow made him feel more independent than he had in years.
And now . . .
“Sebastian? Are you all right? You’re breathing OK?”
Sebastian’s eyes flew from where they’d been fixed on the feeding tube supplies to those beautiful gray eyes. He wanted to be furious with Agni, as if he were to blame for Sebastian’s body betraying him, but he couldn’t bring himself to take his frustrations out on the nurse. Not now. Not after all they’d been through, how much Agni had helped him, even when he probably didn’t deserve it. “Do you have to do this?”
Agni tilted his head, assessing Sebastian. “I’ll do everything I can so you won’t be nauseous.”
That wasn’t what Sebastian meant, but he sighed and moved the blanket away, lifting his shirt to expose his abdomen, the little button that lay flush against his skin in the lower right just above where his pants waistband would be.
“I didn’t want this,” Sebastian said, watching Agni as he worked.
Agni paused what he was doing. “Sebastian?”
“The tube.”

Six-Sentence Sunday: Synchronize AU, Ch 7 Snippet
How could it still hurt so much after all this time? How could he still be so afraid of that experience?
Sebastian knew why. Because it could happen again. He was still helpless, even more so now than back then. And it terrified him.
“Shh,” Agni whispered, tugging him a tad closer, leaning his head against Sebastian’s. “I won’t let anything like that happen to you again. I promise.”
Sebastian sobbed harder, because he could tell Agni wasn’t merely trying to console him. He meant those words fully.
Agni shifted and a moment later he was wiping Sebastian’s eyes and nose, rocking him subtly, almost unconsciously, humming low, slightly off-tune, an unfamiliar, soothing melody. “You don’t have anything to fear. That’s behind you. You aren’t that person any more. You know when you need to stand up for yourself, and you have Tanaka. And me.”
Sebastian’s tears ebbed, his chest ached, but his heart was full. “Stay with me. Please. For as long as you can.”
I’ll be updating this on Tuesday!

This chapter is a little shorter than the others, but packs an enormous emotional punch. Thank you again to everyone who has supported this story.

WIP Wednesday: Synchronize, Ch 6 Snippet #2
The next chapter is very, very close to done, so hopefully I can post very soon!
Here's another snippet, this one from Agni's POV from when he was young. It may seem familiar to the snippet I posted last week. That's intentional.
This chapter will focus largely on the nurse as we begin to see parallels between him and Sebastian become more and more evident, even if they don't see it yet.
TW for effects of bullying/violence and homophobic terms.
Breathing was agony.
Agni lay in his bedroom of his aunt’s house, adjusting how he moved his chest. Slow, shallow. Sweat dotted his brows. He honestly wasn’t confident he could get out of bed. Would he be able to convince Mina he was sick?
He hated lying, but he couldn’t let her see the bruises.
His bullies had left his face alone aside from tugging his hair, mocking its color and length. Their cruel laughter filtered in his mind, their taunts of fairy and fag and little princess sneaking through the fortress he’d tried to construct to shut out the memories. The pain was bad enough.
All summer they’d been tormenting him, and he’d had to work harder and harder not to let his aunt know anything was amiss. But his determination had wavered after this last beating.
He’d come so close to telling her how he’d woken up in a dark corner of the schoolyard one afternoon after passing out from pain, gasping. Barely able to breathe without screaming. Standing had been almost impossible, and it had taken him nearly a half hour to get to his feet and stay upright without collapsing back to his knees.
Even now, he wasn’t entirely sure how he’d managed to walk home in that state.
Any plans to confess all to his aunt had slipped away when he’d arrived home to find a stack of binders on the kitchen table. The ones Mina had brought with her after her meeting at the temple with some of the other moms.
Now that Agni was of age, she’d explained, it was time for him to find a nice Bengali girl to enter into a marriage agreement with. While he was an orphan and his aunt unmarried, they were still Brahman, and white hair or not, he was handsome. Mina was convinced he could find a lovely bride.
The thought made a fresh wave of nausea swirl inside him. What would she do if she learned the truth, that no matter how beautiful or charming a girl might be, Agni could never fall in love with her?
Would Mina understand?
He was terrified of the look of horror, disgust, and disappointment that might play on her kind features if he told her the truth. That she might tell him he deserved the harassment and beatings.
If she rejected him, he would have no one.
Nothing.
He could handle a pain if it meant he wouldn’t lose her.
If it meant she wouldn’t stop loving him.

Rules: in a new post, show the last line you wrote (or drew) and tag as many people as there are words (or however many you like).
tagged by multiple people for this, but hadn't been writing until the last couple days so put it off. I think I was tagged by @apocalypticromantic666 @unkillablecinnamonroll and @kawaii-pigeon '(sorry if others also did but my memory is very poor)
Here's part of a flashback for my sebagni Synchronize AU, from when Tanaka was first hired by Vincent some 30 years ago...
“Not scared off yet,” he said, forcing himself to smile and relax. Vincent was mind-numbingly attractive, but this was an exciting opportunity and could potentially be a break from interpreting for tourists or translating boring texts. Or teaching night school. Unless the kids were rich, spoiled brats, in which case no amount of money might make this job worth it. “Wonderful,” Vincent said in English, beaming. “Then, let’s have you meet my boys.”
I have no idea who hasn’t been tagged in this yet so I’ll just leave it open for anyone who wants to do this.

It's so nice to have new Sebagni content with big feelings and disabled Sebastian
So much content of this ship is made by antis and I don't want to suport them so thank you for making this story that I identify with
Anon 🥺🥺🥺🥺 … this ask made (makes) me so happy.
I’m such a sucker for all those things in a story and there just…. Isn’t a lot of it in the fandom, especially for ships like sebagni. I also am sad that antis love that ship so much, bc as wholesome as it can be, I also like exploring some darker aspects of Agni’s character.
I think it’s easy to see him as this perfect paragon, and maybe he did become that, but he wasn’t always that way, and even so, he was still human. I think antis especially like to pretend the “bad agni” that existed before Soma never existed…. But I think the fact that Agni wasn’t always so pure and saintly is part of why he such a loveable character.
I’m glad you can identify with the story, too (though I’m sorry if it’s bc you also deal with illness/disability and all the frustrations that go with it 🫂)…. I really didn’t ever intend to publish the story. At first, I was just gonna write it for myself as I desperately needed something to cling to with the absolute bullshit I’ve had to deal with in the last couple years (this year especially), but I am glad that I did opt to share it, as it does seem to have resonated with a niche group of people. <3
I’ll spend the next day or two on editing and formatting, so hopefully I can update officially on Wednesday. Unless something happens, it should absolutely be this week.
I’ve been really enjoying finally writing sebagni, so much so that if I am able to finish this story this year (that would be amazing if I could), I may try and start another sebagni piece, maybe one of my abandoned (put on the far back burner) ideas, or maybe another one in a similar vein…. I guess time will tell.
For now, I’m really enjoying the relationships in this fic, especially Seb & Tanaka and Seb & Agni ofc. But also Tanaka/Vince. In fact, I may end up doing a oneshot spin off that covers some of their relationship, like how they met, why they couldn’t be the couple/family Tanaka wanted, and how Vince died…. But it’s possible that may end up as part of Synch proper….
I have a semi-concrete idea of what the rest of the fic will entail, and I think it’ll be around 10 chapters. But so far it’s been surprising me, so it may be longer than that… but it’s not gonna be a fraction as expansive a story as WDH, so it is theoretically possible I could finish it this year.
I’m trying to take a laid back approach to this story, just write what I need to for my sanity and enjoy it as I go.
But I’m excited bc we’ll have two new characters to meet in ch 4!
Ty again so much for this ask. I’m really glad you’re enjoying the story. (^_^)
You can read the first 3 chapters of Synchronize on AO3.
Anyone is welcome to read and comment as long as you’re respectful and kind. 🥰
