Synopsis: Youâre sick. Georgeâs sick. Someone else is probably going to get sick. Itâs an interesting last race in Abu Dhabi
young female driver reader x 2023 F1 grid
A/N: this fic is pretty vague so iâm not going to give the reader a team or teammate, we just know that sheâs a driver on the grid because thatâs all we really need to know
. so
. you think you caught it in vegas
. it was colder than you were used to
. you barely got any sleep
. and even though youâre around hundreds of people every race weekend, las vegas felt more packed than a normal race would be
. and you were seated next to george, whoâs been feeling sick for a few days at that point, for nearly all pre-race activities
. it was probably all of these combined that gave you a sore throat, stuffy nose, pounding headache, and persistent cough
. you knew the second you woke up thursday morning
. âitâs going to be a shitty weekendâ
. the grid, however, did not know until thursday afternoon
. you came into the press conference room, bundled up in a long sleeve and hoodie, nose red with a scratchy voice
. you sit beside an amused lewis, resisting all urges to lay your head against the back of the couch and drift off
. âyou okay y/n?â
. the only response he gets is a groan and small shake of the head
. âiâll get you some tea when weâre done here love, youâll be okayâ
. lewis, who was always your favorite but now has new reasons to be favored, lets you rest your head against his shoulder and close your eyes while you all wait for the conference to begin
. word spreads by the end of the media day, and suddenly you have new reactions from the grid
. daniel walks through the paddock with you, never afraid of a little cough
. âlewis tells me youâve been on your death bed over here. anything I can do?â
. he insist on giving you a hug and the recipe for chicken soup that he learned from his mum and now swears by
. max, who is afraid of a little cough, is the one who makes sure youâre not being harassed when trying to sleep
" max? whoâs under the blanket-â
. âshush. sheâs trying to sleepâ
. âbut whoâs-â
. âI said shushâ
. lando, a man whoâs all too familiar with being clumsy, probably saves you a million times from walking into doorways, a drowsiness affect from the fever you keep insisting you donât have
. heâll keep a constant eye on you and hand on your shoulder as a precaution
. âletâs not go over there, thatâs a wallâ
. ây/n!â
. âmhm?â youâd say, eyes half closed with tiredness
. âthatâs a door love, jeez, we should put a bell on youâ
. carlos and charles, drivers whoâve had loads of experience taking care of sick younger siblings, make a team effort of ensuring youâre doing your best to get better
. âdid you drink the water bottle I gave you?â
. ânoâ
. âdid you drink anything today?â
. ânoâ
. âoh mon dieu youâre going to kill yourself like thisâ
. âjust try to eat this okay? i know youâre not hungry amiga, but we have a race tomorrow, you need to eat somethingâ
. âi got you more medicine, this one says it should take care of the cough and sneeze so you wonât have to worry about it during the raceâ
. and then thereâs george, your sick partner in crime
. you two make a habit of trapping yourselves in one of your driverâs room
. half to prevent the sickness from spreading further, half to just be left alone
. you guys complain a lot
. take turns choosing movies to watch to pass the time
. reminding the other to take medicine, even though thereâs a good chance that person probably hasnât taken any medicine either
. and passing a bag of cough drops between each other
. as a teammate and friend, lewis tries to talk you two out of racing
. but neither budge
. you get into your car, nose still red and voice still scratchy
. and power through the race, just as youâd been taught to do
. george gets a podium and you get a good points finish, the best results you couldâve asked for considering the conditions
. and stumble out of your car once more, looking for a tissue and that chicken soup recipe
. you get checked on by multiple drivers, though the only response youâre able to give is a nod and thumbs up
. lewis accompanies you on your flight back home, and tries to help as much as you let him
. he feels a bit victorious when you say you wished youâd listen to him and not raced
. but the feeling is instantly replaced with sympathy for his friend, so he just nods and tells you to get some more rest
. after making sure youâre safe at home and surrounded by family and friends that swear on their hearts to take care of you, lewis leaves with congratulations on your season finish and wishes to get better
. youâre fine within a few days, you name the cause of your sickness âend of season fatiagueâ and ensure the drivers you made a full recovery by wednesday night
. so yeah
. itâs not fun at all to drive while youâre sick
. but itâs a bit easier when you have your friends looking out for you
short little f1 grid sick fic. letâs hope I didnât just manifest myself a cold

If ive caught covid im gonna be so pissed
#all my tests are expired so i need to go buy more but if i catch the girl who came to class less than a week after getting covid#without a mask. im gonna throttle her#i did not spend 4 years being careful and masking for a stupid ass to ruin it#AND it would also be massively awful bc i forgot my mask yesterday and therefore wouldve potentially infected all my classmates#which i would never forgive myself about#ent talks#on GOD i better be fine#this is ĂŹn reaction to me being short of breath and coughing today which are the first non-common cold symptoms#literally i'd rather it be some breathing infection or virus than covid#also my flatmate is coughing like that so if it's not covid i caught it from her#im just so pissed and anxious

Sometimes you think maybe everything will be okay but sometimes the "im going to kill myself" thoughts come back just because you're ill BUT sometimes you take a shower and realise maybe it's not that big of a deal
#moss mumbles#cannot stress enough that i think i literally just have like. the common cold#like this is not some big serious illness#im just very dramatic and have somehow ended up with all the symptoms i despise most. all at once#but anyway#had a shower that i turned rly cold at one point and i think it cured me (mentally. physically i am still quite sick)

Writing original Devil fruits is so much funâ except if youâre not careful you just end up doing Nen abilities or worse, JJK techniques. You go âoh Iâll just make them as absurd as possibleââ congrats on your newly created Stand bro
#one piece#like at what point does a Devil fruit stop being a Devil fruit and starts being nen#oh theyâre hyper specific I mean so is nenđđ#I love writing them so much tho#shit yeah what about the uhhh#cold cold fruit#no it doesnât control temperature#it gives whoever you point at the symptoms of a common flu#except the longer they keep doing strenuous work the worse the symptoms get#and it lasts until you either take a nap or eat some medicines#chia rambles#Devil fruits

12, 22, 30!!! â¤ď¸
Thanks for asking!
12. whatâs some good advice you want to share?
Thought I'd go for something I've been trying to hold myself to personally here. I have no idea if this is particularly applicable to others to the same extent it is to me, but eh. Basically, it's incredibly easy sometimes to get fixated on your own mistakes, to try and mull over how you could have done things differently, to try and examine from all angles how it went wrong. The "what if"s essentially. And, don't get me wrong, you can often learn lessons from previous mistakes. And it can be healthy to vent or wallow occasionally. But oftentimes, it's just an excuse to wind yourself up further over what you could have done. To trip over yourself in guilt rather than looking at the present, which then just means you end up making the same mistakes -> why did I do that, I should know better -> rinse, repeat. So, if you're stuck on what-if scenarios and it's a case where you're not actually getting anything constructive out of it. (Namely, stuff like if you need to give an apology, if it's better to just leave it be, what you intend to do in a similar scenario if it arises, etc) If all it's achieving is making yourself feel worse? Stop. Just literally stop ruminating over it. And I know it's a lot easier to say that than *do* it, but the key thing is to catch yourself when you're doing the spiralling thing and just acknowledge that that's what's going on. Then try and move on. But at the same time, if you're not able to shut it off immediately, don't beat yourself up over it. Just recognising when you're in that zone is progress in of itself.
22. say 3 things about someone you love
This is more "loved" than "love" but I say it counts. So, my cat. - When it got cold in the winter and I was working from home, she would always come and sit on my lap and let me stroke her whilst I was doing stuff. Sometimes, she would get onto my lap by peeking up through the shelf intended for a printer and other times she would go straight over the desk. We had a system where when she wanted to leave, I'd spin the chair over to the bed and she'd walk from the desk over my lap to the bed to curl up and sleep. - One year, we got her a cat 'Christmas stocking'. It had a load of different things in it, but most importantly, it had these cat treats she really enjoyed. Unfortunately, we didn't realise she would be able to sus out what it was, so one day we got home and found the whole thing ripped open and scattered across the sides. After that, we made sure to hide any presents for her very carefully. - The only one of her toy type things we got her that she would actually use was the scratching post. If something had catnip in she'd get all big-eyed over it (which, no surprise, led to scratches), but anything else she'd just plain ignore. She was picky like that. I miss her.
30. whatâs one thing that never fails to make you happy/happier?
I don't actually have any cheat code for this one. No guarantees so much as mitigations, but let's see. Hm. I think getting away from home for a bit is a big one. Just to change the environment up really (this applies doubly in autumn/winter when the weather and short days mean I spend most of my time inside). I'll often go find a nearby place that does hot chocolate and go sit there for a bit, listening to music if it's on in there or bringing my headphones along. If I've thought ahead I'll bring something to read as well. If the weather is nice there are some local areas to explore as well and some places that are fairly quiet. In the summer, you can head to the nearby graveyard and there's this abandoned chapel type building (unfortunately you can't get into it but you can go around it :<) and loads of crows and squirrels. I also as a general kinda happy thing rather than a cheering up kinda deal tend to like watching stuff with friends.
#roseofcards90#ask meme#asks#sorry this got kinda depressing and possibly a bit tmi#also. not featured in the good advice section is all the stuff I'm currently ignoring:#separate out where you sleep from where you work/do leisure activities. reduce caffeine consumption. try to regularly sleep at same time#in winter you need to actively seek more sunlight bc vit d. in the same vein other common deficiencies are iron/folate.#they're easily checked for w/ blood tests but also easy to obtain supplements for if you're fatigued + it's not too bad yet.#um. for periods or anything that involves inflammation it's better to use ibuprofen as it's a nsaid. for colds/headaches use paracetamol.#is better at tackling the displayed symptoms (tho doesn't really deal with the underlying causes) iirc? u can use paracetamol + ibuprofen#at the same time as they're two different types of painkillers. can't remember the other combos rn but those two are safe together.

anxiety manifesting in dizziness is such a rude thing to be honest. iâve been thinking how the fact that my dizziness is not getting less these past days/weeks combined with being sick could be a sign of lymeâs disease (or something else i guess), a very real possibility seeing how iâve gotten 20-30 tick bites in the last month, but that thought is also not going to calm my anxiety, again not making the constant dizziness go away
#own post#dizziness and being sick and having constant pain random places on a very standard basis is NOT ideal for detecting weird diseases#weird diseases you are more likely to get than the average person so you should be more careful when you get symptoms#symptoms you have all the time however#itâs so stupid#might point it out to my doctor when Iâm there to get my chest checked out in two days anyways#other symptoms (which I have on a daily basis) include: unusual heart rhythm. tiredness. memory issues.#common symptoms I wouldnât have noticed due to having a cold/flu last week: fever. extensive joint pain. and all of the mentioned above

wait so I can add MORE angst? đ
#reading about the effects of having your vocal cords severed.... oh boy#oh I can make this so angsty if I want to...#either it's like. Benze is super cognizant of it in that doctorish way he has and is constantly waiting for something to happen#OR it doesn't even cross his mind. it's one of a set of symptoms that are kept on a list in the back of his mind and he spends#so much time fretting about communication that he doesn't even think about any of the rest of it until it happens#and then suddenly his best friend in the world is choking on nothing and looking to him with wild panicked eyes#because crab didn't expect this either. how would he?#severed vocal cords lead to vocal cord paralysis which has common effects of trouble breathing/swallowing etc and choking#the internet does not want to be forthcoming about my fictional hypothetical of what happens if you get both#cords straight up sliced but like. you can imagine#idk I'm just Thinking#something happens like crab gets knocked out or drugged or smth and benze is so concerned that he'll have#breathing problems while unconscious#and knowing all of that means that the others get kind of spun up about it too#(meaning: sandman gets so stressed out he thinks he's gonna throw up because he's ridiculously high strung anyway#and doesn't like when one of his friends is hurt aND ANOTHER ONE IS TALKING ABOUT POTENTIAL COMPLICATIONS#LIKE IT'S NOTHING.)#(actually I think it's really funny bc when Benze is in doctor mode he does come off as really cold and unfeeling#even though what's really happening is that he's falling back on facts that he knows and trusts in. medical stuff he can handle#so he's super clinical about it most of the time. and it drives the others up a wall bc they think he doesn't care)#ok sorry I'm just rambling somewhat unrelatedly now about stuff#ddas

Its funny how medication does more than generate side effects.
#shut up rbay#<- forgets they have symptoms disorder#<- forgets they have tools to mitigate the disorder symptoms#in the past month I got sick with the common cold so bad I thought I was fighting a zelda boss with my coughs in my sleep.#my mom had to shake me awake to sit in the bathroom with the shower on#I felt dehydrated so didn't take my meds cause one of the main side effects of the pill is dry mouth#BUT THEN#I forgot to drink so got so dehydrated I developed a tremor.#I'm better now so started taking my meds again and Lo and Behold.#remembering im a human person with a body and not just Link legendofzelda#i have 115 hours in totk#9.6% of the time totk has been out I've been playing it.#and I didn't even get it until days after it actually came out

BREAKING NEWS WE HAVE REASON TO SUSPECT A MEDICATION IS ACTUALLY HELPING BYTEOFSOUP'S IBS. My life was a nightmare for a bit but then i got prescribed something and i noticed significant improvement??? I'm not cured or anything but it's only been two days
The one thing is that i don't have the usual marker for the disease this medication is treating... it very well could be just the upswing of a particularly bad week.
#also#if this is actually helping it#That's not good news for the functioning of my pancreas.#And people don't lose functioning of their pancreas just from a common cold or whatever#i don't have celiac or diabetes at least#could be crohn's but that's unlikely cuz I'd have other symptoms

i am just blowing my nose and sniffling and sneezing up a STORM today. itâs been hell on earth.
#i hate how every time i get cold symptoms now i have to worry about whether it might be The Plague.#like iâm just assuming that because when i did have covid the symptoms were different than a regular cold. that must be how it would manifes#manifest if i were to get it again. and so this is probably just a cold because this is what my body does when i have a cold#like this sucks man. if we were gonna have a horrible virus why did it have to have similar symptoms to the common cold.#beth.txt
