Alright so after having looked through hypnos’ new design I have something to say. The poppies.
So I’ve already seen someone post about this ( @blamethecows-draws ) and yes!! Poppies do symbolize his son, but they are also closely related to Hypnos himself. Now I’m not sure how they were in terms of Ancient Greece (unfortunately my Ancient Greece knowledge is shaky at best), but I am aware of this particular painting from 1874: Sleep and his Half-Brother Death
In this painting, Hypnos (depicted closest to the audience) holds a few poppies in his hand. Poppies, to my knowledge, were flowers that symbolized not only him as a god, but also death (hence why Thanatos is there too)
What’s interesting, though, is that poppies also symbolize a hope for a more peaceful/calm future. I think that this potentially could tie into the whole PLOT of the game, which is trying to take down the calamity that Kronos has caused
So tldr: poppies symbolize death, the God Hypnos, and hope for a calm future, which is kinda the whole plot of Hades II

The way that Chronos tore down all the renovations that the player/Zag so lovingly made in the first game and stripped the House of Hades down to a barren, gold-plated monument to his own ego I’m going to throw up

Hades' Chaos definitely has some body horror elements, I wanted to see where I could go with them. I like the idea that the top head isn't really the main one, it's more of a nicety for interacting with humanoid entities.

This project is officially out of hand - I swore 3 months ago that I won't expand it to clones territory, I really won't, and look where I am now! I also had to double down on Rex, if I'm here and have accepted defeat, as I finally got around to watching Rebels and I just love him so much with that beard, and his freckles omg TTnTT (I really really wouldn't mind seeing him in the Ahsoka show either, please)
The rest of the Mandalorian Star Wars meets Hades AU project is here
I've spent my sick day real productively, I believe :3

A vow for eternity . 21.02.2024
I am aware of the multiple interpretations of the Persephone and Hades relationship and how most of them obviously reflect the culture of their time. Personally I can't help but feel a very loving nature emanating from them, a growth despise the mistakes that get brushed off as he can do that because he's, well, him. Personally I also think Lady Persephone can be way more severe than Lord Hades and she's definitely ✨her✨, so the multiplicity of her story is in the end a vindication for female empowerment. I am by no means claiming my interpretation as truth and everyone will have different feelings about them, but yea every time I think of them I just feel love.
I had this drawing started for ages and honestly had forgotten to finish it. I want to draw them more so I'm just gonna leave this one as is and revisit my interpretation on them when I get the time again. 💖

Chaos design symbolism!!!!
Okay so I have so many thoughts about the change in Chaos's design and if don't share them I might just implode. Basically I think about the change in their design denotes a cycle of rebirth and death/ decomposition. In their Hades 1 design they look like this:
I view the amorphous faces as an embodiment of their experiences throughout a long phase in their existence. I would also like to point out in this design they are growing a baby.
This is very similar to the new design, where what I believe the head of Chaos's Hades 1 designs head is growing another baby.
So from this I think that Chaos is a constant state of change and rebirth as a microcosm of the universe under the big crunch theory.
Which basically states that the universe is always expanding until it implodes, creates a subsequent big bang, and continues as such. Based on that the design from Hades 1 would be placed on this timeline towards the end before the implosion, and the Hades 2 design right after the big bang.
Another thing that I find very interesting is that Chaos seems to be materialist in nature as they have elements of their past in both their designs, denoting that creation does not exist in a vacuum. This is done with the faces incorporated into their body, and holding the skull of their previous form respectively.
Gah! I love symbolism!! Of course the deity of creation is a perpetual state of change that reflects a theory of the timeline of the universe while at the same time internally representing their previous selves as an embodiment of the materialist nature of existence!!!!

Seriously??
Stop saying that the gods and goddesses are mysoginists or feminists… They aren't, they weren't! I'm sick of reading or listen how some gods are insulted or acused of mysoginists or some others are acused of feminists… No! They not!
They were religious deities! They still are, because there's an Hellenistic community of worshipers! But i'll talk of the Ancient Greece… I'm not Greek, but i don't like how some gods and goddesses are treated just for their myths and the same people say that were the Greeks whose actually treated the gods like that! What's i'm saying?
"Zeus is a dick, a mysoginist, a r*pist even worse that his son Apollo, he can't kept his pants on and that's how the greeks portrayed him, so… the greeks says that Zeus is a dick"
…
What? Seriously??? The Greek whose worshiped him? Zeus the most important god in the Greek Pantheon? Zeus the king of the Olympians and the father of the gods?
I know many of the male gods assaulted women in the myths… But please I'll say it again… Don't took the myths as literal! Neither the ancient greeks do it that because they worshiped those male gods… They took the myths as metaphores, lessons and stories…
But i advice you if you're not sure: talk with a greek person! Ask the greeks theirself because they know much better of their own culture and history!
Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Demeter, Athena, Ares, Apollo, Artemis, Dionysus, and a can continue with all of them…. I will defend all of them because i love them and i know the context and history behind the myth! I know the myths were written by persons (HUMAN PERSONS) whose "humanized" the gods to be more close with them, so that is why in the myths the gods aren't perfect! I know there's people who worship them (i'm not hellenic polytheist yet, but i would like to worship Artemis one day of these) and i respect the deities! I know the symbolism and metaphores of the myths and stories!
Zeus is NOT a dick! Hera is NOT a bitch! Aphrodite is NOT a whore! Apollo is NOT a asshole! Ares is NOT a idiot! Dionysus is NOT dumb drunk! Artemis is NOT a cruel and bad friend! Poseidon is NOT a piece of shit! Demeter is NOT a bad helicopter mother! Hades is NOT the villain… But neither was Zeus, Demeter, Apollo or Aphrodite! No!
#Sorry#i don't want to be repetitive with these posts but i'm really tired of all this...#i'm sick of this#But i'll still defending them even is all the world is against the gods (especially males they took the worst part)#I'm not a greek#but i don't think the ancient greeks themselves saw the male gods as r*pists ir dicks 😕😐#please stop#Don't judge with a modern criterion the actions of the gods in a story written many centuries ago#See the context#See the symbolism#Respect the gods#greek deities#greek gods#ares#apollo#artemis#gods#zeus#hephaestus#respect#hera#poseidon#demeter#aphrodite#dionysus#hermes#hades#persephone#athena#hestia

THE SOULS OF ACHERON | 1898 | by ADOLF HIRÉMY-HIRSCHL
The painting depicts a scene from ancient Greek mythology. It shows the god Hermes, also known as Psychopomp. He guides the souls of the dead to the underworld. The scene is set on the banks of river Acheron. Charon's boat awaits to transport souls to the afterlife.
Various emotions of the dead are captured as they face their fate. The souls are shown with various expressions. These range from despair and resignation to hope and desperation. Hermes is depicted with determination and strength.
Symbolism in the painting is quite evident, including Hermes' central position. The outstretched arms of the souls around him draw the viewer's attention to the god. The colour contrast between Hermes and dead as well as light around his head emphasizes his divine status
The painting is considered one of best works by Hirémy-Hirschl. It is notable for its detailed composition and emotional depth. The piece has been praised for its ability to evoke a range of emotions in the viewer. Moreover, it is significant for its exploration of the human experience of loss and mortality

I do think it's rather unfair for hades game 2 to literally give us a sapphic moon witch and then proceed to have no love inerests you could conceivably do the "sun lesbian/moon lesbian" thing with. That's like lesbophobic I think. They need to bring the iliad characters back and put cassandra (priestess of apollo, which counts as decent sun symbolism I think) in the game or i'm gonna make a genderbent helios out of pure desperation.
#hades 2#hades game#neither eris nor nemesis have sun symbolism. like at all. nor do they exactly have 'sunny' personalities#not even arachne or my beloved echo works here. they're nice but distinctly gloomy#i guess if i'm genderbending i could just hit icarus with a transgenderification beam#second time a beam of light changed icarus' life dramatically. ba dum tss#icarus is the kind of nice and bright character that usually gets called sun-coded and uh! sure has mythological sun connections!#not GOOD ones but hey we work with what we have#to be clear before someone accuses me of pissing on the poor the lesbophobic thing is a joke#i don't actually think that

Date with a necromancer
Vidow date! on their trip in the dark world, Vio discovers some things about himself. early villain arc
Necromancer Vio au!
read on ao3
Vio was lost in thought once again. They had checked the surface. It was obvious at this point that time was moving quicker here in the dark world. He was contemplating what that meant. He could spend more time with Shadow with less consequences. It had been a month to their week, although his initial calculations might be off. It was nice to spend time with them. They had been opening up more, behaving like themself. It was sweet, and fun. Shadow had a boyish charm, stacked with bloodlust was an irresistible combination.
Shadow was showing Vio around the places they frequented. The land itself was beautiful. Purple, black, and grayscale tones filled the skies. Most wood is a darker venge color, and the plants darker and muted. It was beautiful. Like the purple haired villain leading him.
“Oh! I love those!” Shadow runs up to a thick aged and swaying tree. It was full of large fruits, and Vio hummed as he got closer. Shadow was comically jumping to reach one, despite having the ability to stretch themself up. They snag one down, mostly round and pinkish red with a hard outside.
“Is this where pomegranates are from??” he wondered aloud, “No wonder they’re so expensive at markets.” He watches amused as Shadow struggles to peel the skin.
“Fuck! They’re so hard to get at!” They bare their fangs at it, as if they could intimidate it open. Or maybe they were planning to bite it apart. Vio gently pries it from their hand. Shadow’s anger melts with the hand to hand contact.
“Here, dear, let me.” Vio is so in his own head he doesn’t realize the pet name slipped out. Shadow freezes, pretty lined eyes going wide. Gay panic over taking any sassy comeback in their brain. Vio unhooks a tiny knife from his belt and cuts into the top, shallow but enough. “You could probably do this with your claws, too. They are certainly sharp enough for it,” Vio mumbles at them. He tears the top off. The little gems inside were as red as Shadow’s left eye. He pulls the fruit apart in sections and hands over one. Shadow takes it with a little awe.
“Uhm- thanks,” They look between the snack and their date. They usually just tear into the damn thing with teeth and suck the juice out like a feral animal, so they aren’t sure how to proceed. Vio invites them to come and sit at the tree’s base next to him. He knocks his head back and taps loose some seeds to fall in his mouth. Shadow sits and tries to copy him, smacking the back of their head on the trunk. “Ow! Shit!”
Vio can’t help the laugh bubbling out, “Ahaha- sorry. I shouldn’t laugh at you. Are you okay?” He places a hand over the small bump to check for tenderness. Shadow’s notched ear tips turn red from the honest care.
“Fine!” They snap, pouting. “‘M fine.” They look away when Vio brings his icy cold hand down. He pops out more seeds into his hand. The ironic implication of him, a necromancer, dealing with and in tune with death, offering his crush pomegranate seeds was not lost on him. He doubted Shadow picked up on the symbolism, though. They weren’t quite one for books just yet, and Vio rarely shared his book about mythologies.
“So stubborn.” He gives an obvious fake dramatic huff, “Have to do it myself then, I suppose.” He holds the little rubies out for them. When Shadow reaches he shakes his head. “Open your mouth, dumbass.” he chastises affectionately. It takes their entire being not to ruin the moment with a childish ‘that’s what she said’ joke. Vio drops them in and Shadow crunches on the seeds, satisfied. “How do you usually eat them?"
“Oh Uhhh weelll….” They scratch their cheek, “I kinda just bite into them and tear a chunk off until I get to the inside and scoop em out or crush em with my teeth, and suck the juice out? It gets messy.” The imagery is a little violent, nevertheless the thought brings a slight flush to Vio’s face. The motion absolutely reminded him of something dirty. Maybe not the biting, though. He shakes his head. It’s bad enough he genuinely is falling for Shadow, let alone having dirty thoughts about them.
“I see,” he trades between taking some and giving some seeds over until they’re gone. Shadow, oblivious to their partner in crime’s inner turmoil, blabbered on about the fruits in the dark world. They lived off them a lot, probably pissing off the tree’s real owners at some point. They don’t think they technically need to eat, but they like it.
As they go on, Vio thinks if he sees Shadow eat a peach he would faint. Where they got these ideas from he has no clue.
“And then you bite into it and tilt your head back so you get all the juice,” Shadow mimes the action. Dear fucking Din, Vio swears, he must be as red as the pomegranete. “But it takes a little practice so you don’t choke-? Hey are you good?” They finally notices poor Vio’s complexion.
“Ahem! Yes!” His voice cracks, giving him away, “All good!” Does he know?? They can’t not know what they’re saying! Vio wipes his hands on his pants, still kind of sticky.
“Are you sure? You’re pretty red, are you maybe allergic to it??”
“N-no! No… I um…” he fidgets with the bottom of his tunic. Shadow was up close inspecting his face, his chin grabbed in their hand. They gave a disbelieving hum. Shadow’s lips were stained from the fruit. He couldn't look away. Vio panics and does the first thing his mind says to. He presses his lips against Shadow’s and pulls back. “Fuck! Sorry- I shouldn’t have…” Vio gets cut off. Shadow tackles him to the grass and smushes their lips together again.
Vio, for once, stops thinking. He snakes his arms around their neck, brain going blank. Simply just ‘Shadow’ on repeat. They both taste like pomegranates. He accidentally cuts his tongue on Shadow’s tooth. He’s about to pull away when above him they groan low in approval and sucks it clean. Vio has to break to breathe, and will down the boner that caused before he died of embarrassment.
He was in deep now. There was no going back. Not with the way his stomach tensed, and heat flushed, and fluttering curled up inside. Dangerous, pulling, selfish desire. He loves Shadow. Their little pranks, habits, their things that just made them Shadow. The person behind the face acting as a monster. Vio swallowed, he was the only monster here. Just this once, he thinks, he will be selfish.
“Fuck.” He breathes out. Vio pulls them back down for more. Somehow trying to push his feelings into them through their kissing. How much he wanted this. How much he needed this to be real and stay real. He needed to hold on and never let go and maybe they would be okay. He desperately clings to their shoulders and the delusional belief this would all end up happy and good.
For now, he had Shadow. All else could come later.
