Annihilation and Kundalini Awakening
Annihilation is courtesy of Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media  A Journey Through TransformationIn 2018, Alex Garland’s Annihilation plunged viewers into a surreal and disturbing world, where the familiar dissolves into the unknown, and transformation is inevitable. Watching this movie back then, and rewatching it last night on Netflix, I found myself deeply moved by its haunting imagery and…

horror symbols: crucifixes
In horror movies, crosses are often used as protective charms or magical weapons against supernatural enemies, but in horror movies critiquing catholicism, it could relate to a character a tramua of theirs and what is being used to scare them.

okayy sorry not sorry one more post about this movie. so many reviews and ppl are claiming that this movie isn’t necessarily queer at its core which is. so wrong??? like from a plot view point. [SPOILERS AHEAD MASSIVE SPOILERS!]
when maddy tells owen she likes girls and asks him if he does too, he says (to paraphrase) “i don’t know, i like tv shows. when i think about that stuff, it feels like someone’s ripped me open and tore out all my organs.” after he watches the finale of the pink opaque, he’s vomiting the blue luna juice and sobbing about how this isn’t real, which i relate to like feeling trapped in this unaccepting environment . he does this right after realizing he is isabel, but he still hides it and shoved it down and represses it. then there’s obviously the end, where he cuts himself open in the bathroom and sees the static inside of himself for what it is. it calls back to the line “it feels like someone’s ripped me open and tore out my organs.” which was a REPONSE to being asked about specifically sexuality and more broadly, queerness. there aren’t organs there. there’s the static. he was right and it’s a relief and it’s terrifying and it’s full of guilt and shame and regret and fear. it’s the experience of seeing yourself after years of hiding and repression and it’s directly a queer experience. like hello

I've realized that truly the worst thing Stiller and Erickson could do would be to move on from Burt and Irving as a lost cause. I don't want a single stilted flashback to the s1 finale that ends with Irving telling the innies that "oh he was already happy, I have to find a way to move on" with some dejected pining throughout.
I want this tragedy to hurt unimaginably and I want Irving to fight to have it, I want grey morality and apostasy all because of true love, I want to see Burt's outtie put in the worst no-win situation, I want to see Irving revel in it while being in the worst pain of his life. I want them to address how Lumon's most devout servant helped spark a rebellion solely because he found a soulmate. And I want to see how Irving even moves forward when he loses it. (DOES he lose it? I don't know. I don't WANT to know for as long as possible.)
There is so much here and the worst thing imaginable would be for them to relegate it.

Say what you will about the Steven Universe finale, but few single lines of dialogue in any show finale ever have the same sheer emotional catharsis of "she's GONE!"
Especially as the ultimate payoff of five solid seasons of everyone, even his own family, making the absence of this kid's mother his problem, and either treating him as just an extension of her, or making him feel bad for not being her.

One Will Only Corrupt, Two Will Always Divide, with Three—There Is Balance.
S1 ends on the forging of the Elven Rings and its rationale behind the Three—no one ring-bearer can become stronger than the rest. S2 shows us how that would work with the Lindon scene.

When Galadriel meets Gil-galad, we have this cowboy shot of Gil-galad (shown from the thigh up). He's intimidating and shields Elrond from Galadriel. He physically separating between the two in conflict.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the individual shots of Galadriel and Elrond, we still see Gil-galad's physical presence, emphasizing the power he carries.
Tumblr media
In this 3-shot, we have an inverted triangle composition, showing disharmony. Gil-galad is the largest figure and with the most power.
Galadriel is closest to the camera but stands at the lowest height on set, indicating her troubled status. Elrond is the furthest away from the camera in perspective but visually closer to Gil-galad.
Tumblr media
In s1, Galadriel often held her head up high, whether it was due to her pride or her strong sense of self. Here she does it again but instead, she painfully admits the truth of Halbrand's identity.
The set makes it so that Galadriel would have to look up at Gil-galad. I think it's interesting that Morfydd chose not to hang her head in shame because she was actually deceived* and didn't realize it until it was too late. Her shame manifests in tears because she's apologetic and trying to be accountable for her own mistakes.
(*Lying by omission and running with someone else's assumptions without ever correcting them until caught, is deception.)
Tumblr media
While Galadriel stands alone in her POV, that's not the case when the camera switches to Gil-galad's POV, in which he's considering what the Elven Rings could mean for their kind.
She is still the smallest but this POV positions her closer to Gil-galad. There's now a wider gap between Gil-galad and Elrond instead.
Tumblr media
When Galadriel joins them on the platform, she is now at standing behind Gil-Galad, taking Elrond's former position.
Here we have the turn tables.
Tumblr media
Elrond is now facing Gil-galad and his golden wall that shields Galadriel across the entire frame. (also note the imposing vertical lines from the golden trees in the background for visual continuity.)
But, Elrond stands closest to the camera because he has an upper-hand over Gil-galad and Galadriel and escapes with the Elven Rings.
The push and pull of this scene is a clever and dynamic demonstration of having shared power among the Elven Rings, without even wearing them.

HOLY FUCK. What a movie. Just what a movie. Holy fuck
(Or, it was incredible. Absolutely blew my socks off. Please go and see it. You do not need to have watched anything else in the franchise, it's completely standalone (though it very much retains much of the symbolism of the original and other films). Especially go see it if you like kaiju films. But it was such a good film about humanity and hope. Just incredible. Go and see it.)

are you mentally stable or are you reading through berserk only to realise that the hand that guts cut off at the eclipse is the same hand that he put on griffith's shoulder after the assassination of the queen and also the hand that he put on griffith's shoulder, again, that was the catalyst for the beggining of the eclipse?
