Apologies for the slight angst I cannot seem to escape it.

She'd lost track of how many times she'd talked through these halls. The clack of her boot heels against the stone. Sometimes the weight of the Archbishop's robes weighed heavily on her shoulders. Other times, it was a crown that pricked at her brow sharper than thorns. This was the first time in a while in which it was only her own clothes. The same ashen garb she'd adorned the very first time she stepped foot in the monastery.

And over and over again, she found herself drawn to his side.

Today, he stood on the bridge leading up to the chapel, looking up at the sky. The wind lightly tussling his hair. He'd grown it out a little, and partly tied it back with a deep blue ribbon. He'd only done this once before. It was nice to see it again.

"Can't sleep?" she asked.

Sylvain looked away from the stars, practically beaming as Byleth came to stand beside him. "Just admiring the night sky. It feels strange thinking how these are the same stars they probably saw during the War of Heroes. Never changing. Yet, we keep moving forward."

Byleth tried not to wince. Sylvain wasn't exactly wrong. All their friends, if they survived the war, moved forward with their lives. This time, Mercedes and Ashe were travelling to Almyra. Ingrid was busy managing Galatea territory. They rarely got a moment's reprise. She glanced at her beloved's sword, and her stomach twisted as she saw the familiar Crest of a man now no longer with them. Sylvain didn't leave his room for a month after that battle.

Hesitantly, she reached out, taking his hand and lacing their fingers together.

"If you could do it all over again, would you? Rather than forwards, go back?"

Sylvain stared at her. "What brought this on?"

"Just wondering. That's all."

He pondered this for a moment, before letting go of her hand and wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "Nah. I don't think so. We can't change the past, so why dwell on it?"

You can't change the past, she thought. I can. I could have saved him. Saved them. I could have done something different. Run to him first. But instead, I-

"There's nothing you would change, if given the chance?"

He shrugged. "I mean, yeah, there are some things I'd change if I could. But only if I knew it wouldn't affect one thing."

"Which is?"

"Us." Sylvain smiled, pressing a kiss to her temple. "You've been by my side, every step of the way. Every time I feel I'm about to fall, you always seem to catch me. I don't want to lose you."

"You won't. Ever."

"I hope not." He turned his eyes back up to the sky. “I don't usually believe in it, but...I think destiny wants us to be together, and you should never argue with destiny. Right?”

Destiny. Such a cruel way to describe it.

Yet Byleth found it fit too well.

emm i just rlly dont think of sylveth as a ship tht starts out in a healthy way at all (mostly cuz in canon sylvain resents byleth at first so i like to jump off of that) so i always think about them getting together mostly because sylvain tries to seduce them to hurt them or someone else and ends up catching feelings himself

What’s the origin of your username?: I nicked it from "A Nightmare Before Christmas", I believe it's used during Jack showing the citizens things from Christmas town.

OTPs + shipname: I don't really ship as much as I used to, but a couple I have a soft spot for: Sylvain x Byleth (Sylvleth) Claude x Byleth (Claudeleth or Ashen Deer), Ichigo x Orihime (Ichihime) Grimmjow x Orihime (Grimmhime), Gin x Rangiku (GinRan), Ranpo x Yosano (Ransano? Weirdest habit/trait: One of my favourite smells is frozen cardboard, so whenever I'm in a supermarket, I'll stick my head in the freezer and sniff the pizza boxes. Also I have a habit of rubbing smooth things against my lip, like my nails after I've just painted them.

Hobbies: Let's see, reading, writing, watching TV, playing videogames, listening to music, cooking, doing makeup/hair, shopping, drawing...

If you could have any job you wish, what would you have?: I want to do something creative. Ideally I'd love to be an author (I was working on a fantasy novel but I've kind of temporarily abandoned it lol) but it would also be so cool to write for TV or movies. When I was younger I wanted to be an actress.

Something you forget: I have a bad habit of telling people the same thing several times. I think it's because I forget who I've talked to about things so I've repeated anecdotes to people before. Luckily most of my friends don't mind because I try to tell them in a funny way.

Something you’re good at: Writing! I've been writing fanfiction since I was like thirteen years old and both my degrees have something to do with writing. I've been carrying notebooks with me everywhere since I was a kid. Also, I'm a fairly good cook.

Something you hate: Inconsideration. I cannot stand it when people have no fucking spatial awareness because they can't be bothered to check around them or look up from their phones, so you have to manoeuvre around them, or when you're trying to have a conversation with someone and don't even get half the effort back. I've dropped more than one friend because I realised I was the only one trying to keep things going and they just couldn't be bothered or consider other people's feelings.

Your love language: Quality time and gift giving. It means a lot to me when people reach out and ask me if I want to spend time with them. Plus my social battery often runs out with a lot of people, so if I want to hang out with you for a long periods of time, it means you're special and I don't find your company draining. Word of affirmation too.

Fave animal?: Cats! I used to have two cats, a brother and sister, growing up.

What were you like as a child?: When I was really young I was inexplicably really fearless - I used to hug trees, talk to literally everyone and I would fall off things or hurt myself in some way and not really cry. It's only when I got to around puberty that I became very anxious and fearful of being perceived.

Fave subject in school?: English and Art. For a long time I thought English was the only subject I was good at. I also love to draw but I'm self-conscious it's not up to the level of other people's fanart I see. I used to like Drama too until it kind of got (not literally) beaten out of me.

Least fave subject?: Maths. I don't like to self-diagnose but I'm fairly sure I have some form of dyscalculia. I still struggle with understanding how to do division even though people have tried to explain it to me multiple times. I'm also terrible at Geography - I have gotten Berlin and Dublin confused before. And I thought Croatia was near Jamaica. And I confused Aberdeen with Aberystwyth...

What’s your best character trait?: I'm very intuitive. When I meet people I often have a knee-jerk reaction to them that often turns out to be correct. In general I'm fairly good at reading people's vibes - not foolproof by any means, but I've learned to trust my gut instinct. I've had times where I've disliked someone's new friend without a concrete reason, and then later they turned out to be a total bitch and I was not surprised at all. XD

What’s your worst character trait?: I give up too easily. If something looks like it's going to be really hard/time-consuming/expensive, my immediate reaction is, "Oh, well, nevermind then." I think it's why I've never been able to get the hang of digital art - I love to draw but I find using a tablet really hard and when I produce bad drawings, I just stop doing it because I don't like being bad at it.

If you could change any detail of your life, what would it be?: In general I wish I'd done certain things much earlier - I wish I'd had a better start career-wise than my fabulously awful job of working in retail. I feel like I wasted my twenties working several terrible jobs I had zero interest in and have nothing to do with what I'm actually good at. But hopefully I'm on the path to finding something better.

If you could travel in time, who would you like to meet?: Freddie Mercury would be pretty cool ig.

swimming (was a competitive swimmer for most of my child and teenage years)

I garden in the spring/summertime

I also love to cook and have done dinner parties for my friends (but I don't enjoy baking)

Something you’re good at: I've been told I'm good at giving advice and listening to people. Personally I'm very good at directions! There have been a few times where I've been stopped on the street and helped people navigate their way around.

Something you hate: Oranges :(, I can't stand the colour, the smell and the taste.

What were you like as a child? I was an easygoing child and VERY curious. I would wake up in the middle of the night to do "science" experiments. Like one time I woke up around 3am and I dug up the front yard to find "cool rocks" 💀 or buy mentos from the local convenience store, wait for everyone to go to bed, then sneak into the kitchen and put the mentos in my parents 2L coke bottle to see it explode LMAO.

Favourite subject in school: i've been in school for too long: french & geography -> science -> physics -> biology -> advanced health economics for low and middle-income countries & biostatistics

Least favourite subject: Wood working... to avoid a fail, I asked the guy who had a crush on me to help me with my final project 🫣 I also hated organic chemistry in undergrad.

What’s your best character trait: I've been told I'm very caring and calming to be around! I had a friend describe me as a "human version of a spa" 💀

What’s your worst character trait? I cut people out of my life very easily. I think I should be more forgiving, but I just... can't get passed whatever slight was made to me/loved ones. I'm trying to be understanding and compassionate, but I also don't want you near me ever again lol.

If you could change any detail of your life right now, what would it be? I hope trump and his administration dies. In my immediate life? I'd like a higher salary.

If you could travel in time, who would you like to meet? It is definitely a tie between Johann Sebastian Bach and Muzio Clementi!! They are my favourite composers. My piano exam repertoire for the Baroque and Classical periods were from their piano repertoire. I have so much fun playing them and would love to learn their thought processes.
