Simon Riley wasn’t really the kind of man you’d expect to take care of himself, at least not in the long run. Sure, he showered, brushed his teeth, etc., etc.

But the one thing he always forgot to do was eat. It wasn’t on purpose—the man just never remembered, always justifying his forgetfulness with things like:

“Forgot my lunch at home.”

“Not really that hungry.”

For a man who was constantly working, training, and using his body like it was made of steel, it was expected that he would put some nutrition into it—but he didn’t. At least, not now. Not after he and his ex-wife finalized the divorce.

Simon remembers the days when his pretty little wife would pack his lunches into one of those lunchboxes that could heat up at certain times, keeping his food warm and ready.

Or when he’d dig through the damned thing, sometimes burning himself in the process (he’d always be too eager to turn it off before sticking his hand in). Just to see the note his pretty little wife would leave him, saying things along the lines of—

“Love you, soldier. Have a good day!” With a kiss mark next to it.

Sometimes, he would even keep the note, but he wouldn’t mention it—just gave her a sweet kiss when he got home.

When he was deployed for weeks—months on end—he’d hate the shitty food he was given, always craving a home-cooked meal from his favorite girl. Thinking about her at the stove, cooking something up for him—always for him.

Now, he sat on a foldable hard plastic chair, one of those shitty ones you could store in a closet. Glancing down at his palm, his eyes flickered over the note—her handwriting. He imagined what she would’ve cooked for him today.

Simon liked to imagine she thought about it too. He wondered if she ever cooked things he liked, just for the hell of it. Even if their marriage ended the way it did, he hoped she still thought about him

I've got two!

In the same way that I think people confuse the Billionaire superhero archetype with deliberate billionaire agitprop instead of recognizing that it's just a narrative shortcut to handwave the logistics of the thing, I think critics of the portal fantasy genre sometimes jump right to "self-insert self-indulgent power fantasy" without giving a fair shake to how portal fantasy allows you to neatly pair constructed fantasy worldbuilding with a protagonist that thinks in legible 20th-21st century idioms and comes with a pre-built quest motivation (get da hell outta here). Obviously there are better and worse ways to flesh the protagonist out from there but it's an incredibly useful starting point.

I strongly suspect that that one XKCD edit of "Steven Moffat hates women vs Japan hates woman" miiiight have some applicability to some of the backlash I've seen against Isekai- For every yikes-inducing overly-wordy-titled power fantasy manga you present me with, I could pull something equally deranged and indulgent from the bloody pulps or the YA algae bloom. Mark Twain got in on the ground floor with this shit, good or bad none of it is new

Jamie would 100% make Roy a dating app profile sometime after the Keeley rejecting both of them thing to try to help him move on and meet people when clearly he’s refusing to get back out there organically and he’d think he’s being so helpful and generous and the best wingman ever. He’d handpick what he considers the sexiest pictures he can find and put a bunch of shit Roy would never say thinking he’s being accurate and helpful and not even taking the clear opportunity to make a joke account to embarrass him or anything when he easily could have just made fun of him and chosen the worst pictures possible instead

And then he would be SO offended when it doesn’t go well when Roy finds out about it and is not properly appreciative at all

Roy thinks it’s Jamie’s account when he starts showing Roy girls like what do you think of her and asking him way too many questions when Roy has no interest in participating and has no idea why the fuck Jamie seems incapable of swiping without trying to get Roy’s opinions first. Meanwhile, Roy’s giving one word answers at first and then increasingly trying to brush him off when he doesn’t stop and then he’s just flat out like “Choose your own dates and leave me the fuck out of it” and Jamie’s like “Nah, this is your account. You should have a say” and instead of being grateful and appreciative and thanking Jamie for being oh so generous with his time and energy, Roy just scowls at him and growls out “You did not make a fucking Tinder profile for me” and Jamie just smirks and decides now is not the right moment yet to mention that he actually made him accounts on like three different apps because he wasn’t sure which Roy would like best

Roy barks at him to delete it and Jamie’s all whiny like “Come on, I spent a lot of time on these and you haven’t even considered it. Plus, even if you’re not ready to date someone yet, you’d still be less miserable to be around if you at least found someone to shag in the meantime”

And Roy’s like “Delete it. I don’t want a fucking Tinder profile.” And Jamie looks at him confused for a moment and then seems to have an epiphany as he goes “Oh, do you want a Grindr one instead? Hold on a second” and he flips to a different app and Roy’s too busy being baffled by the fact that Grindr is already on Jamie’s phone and that he’s having to sign out of his own account to try to make one for Roy to even stop him before he’s already trying to sign up for a new account and Roy goes “That’s not what I meant. I don’t want any dating app”

And Jamie pauses his typing and turns and looks at him so skeptically and so judgily and suddenly somehow Roy is trying to fight for his life trying to defend why he’s not looking for some random stranger to date or fuck around with

vivid street is like. THE most trans supportive place around. because of that, an (who is a trans girl to me) got her Transgender Realization really early on (her looking up to nagi so much certainly contributed too) meanwhile akito (trans guy) got his egg cracked quite early thanks to it, too. that, and social media, helped with cracking ena's (trans girl) egg too

kohane (trans girl) had no way of having vivid street help with cracking her egg, and toya (trans guy) realizing he was trans was assisted by the tenma siblings (who are also trans, tsukasa trans guy and saki trans girl) before he discovered it, but akito definitely wouldn't have his egg cracked if not for vivid street

Dick being a kid the god of travellers is like really perfect because like then Hermes was attracted to Dick’s mum who’s life is literally travel so I love that

But I also raise you Zeus kid Dick who can secretly actually fly but has to hide it cause like no one can know he’s a Zeus kid (he doesn’t want to die thank you very much) so that’s why he loves the traipse (no idea if I spelt that right) so much and then he doesn’t want to tell Bruce because Batman fights with no powers so Robin should too.

I also raise Athena kid Jason, he loves reading and seeing him absolutely terrified of spiders more so than like the joker is funny to me.

zeus dick (my inner 12 yo boy is giggling) is indeed interesting and i do like that inner conflict dick would have with “well batman doesn’t have powers, so i need to not use my powers” (plus bruce wouldn’t know how to train a kid with powers like that unless he told the league to help lol)

HOWEVER while in batkids have powers aus the “dick can fly” one is really popular but it kinds goes back what i was saying in the tags about attributing their own skills that they developed to a power. dick has been training his body since he could walk probably on the trapeze and with acrobatics- stuff that takes so much work and dedication and to give him the power of flight kinda takes that away? and that freedom he gets while in the air comes from his own satisfaction with his training (but its also cute to imagine baby robin dick flying around with superman :))

i do like athena jason ! esp with the more warlike association athena has as well. seeing as shes also the goddess of craft i can imagine him crafting super intricate devices and stuff for patrol lol
