For anyone getting excited over Hillerska being shut down by the school inspectorate, hold your glee. Lundsberg Skola is the Swedish boarding school Hillerska seems to based on. After years and years of warnings and fines re bullying and hazing, Lundsbergs was shut down by the school inspectorate on August 28, 2013.
It was supposed to stay shut down for a minimum of 6 months. Instead the school hired expensive lawyers, appealed, and were allowed to reopen on September 6, 2013. So it only took 9 days before they found a loophole. One can assume Hillerska will do likewise and everybody (except the third years) will be back in class in the second half of August when the new school year starts.
At Lundsbergs, the headmaster was fired and the entire board of governors resigned after the shut down. But they soon regrouped, hired a new headmaster, appointed new alumni and parents to the board, and debuted a shiny new anti-bullying policy. Whether it actually worked is unlikely. But the parents are mostly alumni themselves. They wouldâve gone through the same brutal hazings and wouldnât think theyâd be such a big deal.
Hereâs the Wikipedia page, scroll down to the Controversy section for the details on the abuse and bullying that the school was turning a blind eye to. The final investigation, the one that triggered the (temporary) shutdown, was when the younger boys were burned with hot irons by older boys at an initiation. One boy was burned so badly he needed to be hospitalized. The hospital called the local police, who called the school inspectorate. Note: that boyâs parents were not the ones to notify either the police or the school inspectorate.
Also scroll down to the Alumni section for a look at all the rich, influential and famous people (including multiple Swedish royals across many generations) who went there.

Cross-country season has started! Fifa!talia is out, FIS!talia is in!
Most of the athletes on the GBR team are Scottish and they all live in Norway most of the year. Norwegians have such a love for them and some of them even speak Norwegian fluently. Two years ago, they lost funding from the UK government and it looked like they would have to quit skiing all-together. Then, rich Norwegians began sponsoring them and now they are training with a private Norwegian team and funded by Norwegians đ

ANY GIRL by Mia Döring
âAny Girl is a ferociously honest, intensely tender and utterly unforgettable book that is as thought-provoking as it is timely.â
BODY SHELL GIRLÂ by Rose Hunter
âBody Shell Girl is incredible. It is a captivating and honest account of a womanâs experiences, thoughts, and feelings in the sex trade.â â Cherry Smiley
The Sex Economy by Monica OâConnor
Drawing on extensive research, OâConnor challenges the idea that the sale of womenâs bodies as commodities is acceptable and that men have a right to buy sexual acts from another person. She shows that âsex workâ is not a lucrative occupation for impoverished women and girls, and exposes the harm that normalising the sex trade does on womenâs lives, gender equality and society as a whole.
Being and Being Bought by Kajsa Ekis Ekman
âThis is a riveting analysis of prostitution and surrogacy that shatters the great wall of lies about these two institutions. Brilliantly analyzing the parallels, Kajsa Ekis Ekman wages a multi-pronged attack on sexism and classism that leaves the reader with hope for change.â Melissa Farley, PhD.
See:Â A brief history of the âSex work is workâ movement
Paid For: My Journey Through Prostitution by Rachel Moran
âThe best work by anyone on prostitution ever, Rachel Moranâs Paid For fuses the memoiristâs lived poignancy with the philosopherâs conceptual sophistication. The result is riveting, compelling, incontestable. Impossible to put down. This book provides all anyone needs to know about the reality of prostitution in moving, insightful prose that engages and disposes of every argument ever raised in its favor.â Catharine A. MacKinnon
Last Girl First! Prostitution at the intersection of sex, race & class-based oppressions
A study into how all over the world and throughout history, women and girls from the most discriminated communities are over-represented in prostitution. Poor, Indigenous, migrant, asylum-seeking, displaced women, those from the lowest castes and from ethnic, religious and racial minorities are the first victims of pimps and sex buyer
Pimp State: Sex, money and the future of equality by Kat Banyard
Skilfully weaving together first-hand investigation, interviews and the latest research, Pimp State powerfully argues that sex trade myth-makers will find themselves on the wrong side of history.
Prostitution Narratives: Stories of Survival in the Sex Trade edited by Melinda Tankard Reist and Caroline Norma
This book documents the reality of prostitution through the lived experience of women who have survived it.
Exit! by Grizelda Grootboom
Grizelda Grootboomâs life was dramatically changed when she was gang raped at the age of nine by teenagers in her township. Her story starts there. It is a story about the cycle of poverty, family abandonment, dislocation and survival in the streets of Cape Town. She reveals the seedy and often demonised life of a prostitute and her ultimate escape from it.

Body for Rent by Anna Hendriks and Olivia Smit
Childhood best friends Anna and Olivia were just 15 years old when they met Ricardo. He was older, charming and good-looking â and Anna and Oliva were easy prey. Manipulated, groomed and abused, within three years he had pimped the girls into the neon-lit windows of Amsterdamâs red light district.

Shadowâs Law: The True Story of a Swedish Detective Inspector Fighting Prostitution by Simon HĂ€ggström
Detective inspector Simon HÀggström is head of the Stockholm Police Prostitution Unit. He tells the true stories of the people he meets every day; young girls facing dangers they did not foresee, seven foreign women working and living together in a one bedroom apartment, Lovisa, born into a life of drugs and prostitution, and of course, the men who buy sex.
Not a choice, Not a job by Janice G Raymond
âThis book dispels the smoke and mirrors and uncovers the horrific and complex truths of prostitution and the global sex trade. This is a must read for those who want to understand the facts about the harsh realities that so many experience.â Vednita Carter
The Pimping of Prostitution: Abolishing the Sex Work Myth by Julie Bindel
âBold, brilliant and brave. This is Julie Bindel at her best, demolishing the myths around prostitution and asking us to listen to survivors, the women and men who know the ugly reality first-hand.â Joan Smith
The Nordic Model by Trine Rogg Korsvik and Ane StÞ
In this book, feminists activists write about their enduring struggle for the abolition of prostitution. The authors offer valuable insights into the movementâs strategies, as well as its allies and opponents. The book unmasks the pro-prostitution lobby and confronts the myth that the Nordic model is harmful to women in prostitution.
River of Flesh and Other Stories edited by Ruchira Gupta
Twenty-one stories about trafficked and prostituted women by some of Indiaâs most celebrated writers: Amrita Pritam, Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, Indira Goswami, Ismat Chughtai, J. P. Das, Kamala Das, Kamleshwar, Krishan Chander, Munshi Premchand, Nabendu Ghosh, Qurratulain Hyder, Saadat Hasan Manto and Siddique Alam, among others.
Not for Sale: Feminists resisting prostitution and pornography edited by Christine Stark and Rebecca Whisnant
This collection of essays connect feminist perspectives on the sex industry with radical critiques of racism, poverty, militarism, and unbridled corporate capitalism, and shows how the harms of prostitution and pornography are amplified by modern technologies.
The Natashas: Inside the new global sex trade by Victor Malarek
Theyâre the third most profitable black market commodity, after illegal weapons and drugs. They are women and girls, some as young as 12. They are sold into prostitution and kept enslaved; those who resist are beaten, raped, and sometimes killed as examples. In many cases, the men who should be rescuing them âfrom immigration officials to police officers and international peacekeepers â are among their aggressors.
The Johns: Sex for sale and the men who buy it by Victor Malarek
This book dispels the myths that justify prostitution and puts on display the rationales of ordinary johns, their beliefs, their behaviours, and their astounding brotherhood. It also shows us the darker side: the rise of sex tourism, the predators, the role of the Internet. Lambasting the pro-prostitution lobby, he explains why legalising prostitution can lead only to the greater enslavement of women.
The Industrial Vagina by Sheila Jeffreys
âThis is an insightful analysis into the globalization and industrialization of the modern sex industry. Sheila Jeffreys makes the connections between prostitution, marriage, pornography, strip clubs, and sex tourism and how they all combine to exploit women who are most harmed. This book opens a window on global sexual exploitation and the institutions that support it.â Janice G. Raymond
The Idea of Prostitution by Sheila Jeffreys
This book investigates the claims of the pro-prostitution movement and the burgeoning sex industry, arguing that the sex of prostitution is not just sex; the work of prostitution is not ordinary work; and prostitution is a choice for the men who abuse rather than for the prostituted women.
See The Idea of Prostitution: Q&A with Sheila Jeffreys and Rose Hunter.
And Life Continues: Sex Trafficking and My Journey to Freedom by Wendy Barnes
Wendy Barnes was introduced to sex trafficking by her first love, the father of her children. And Life Continues is her story: how she became a victim of human trafficking, why she was unable to leave the man who enslaved her for fifteen years, and the obstacles she overcame to heal and rebuild her life after she was rescued.
Pornography
Pornland: How porn has hijacked our sexuality by Gail Dines
âDines brilliantly exposes pornâs economics, pervasiveness, and impact with scholarship as impeccable as her tone is reasonable. This book will change your life. Ignore it at your peril.â Robin Morgan
He Chose Porn Over Me edited by Melinda Tankard Reist
âShattering the popular myth that porn is harmless, the personal accounts of 25 brave women in âHe Chose Porn over Meâ reveal the real-life trauma experienced by women at the hands of their porn-consuming partners â men who were supposed to care for them.â

Your Brain on Porn by Gary Wilson
âYour Brain on Porn is written in a simple clear language appropriate for expert and layperson alike and is rooted firmly within the principles of neuroscience, behavioural psychology and evolution theory ⊠As an experimental psychologist, I have spent over forty years researching the bases of motivation and I can confirm that Wilsonâs analysis fits very well with all that I have found.â Professor Frederick Toates, Open University.

Getting Off: Pornography and the End of Masculinity by Robert Jensen
In our culture, porn makes the man. So argues Robert Jensen in Getting Off: Pornography and the End of Masculinity. Jensenâs treatise begins with a simple demand: âBe a man.â It ends with a defiant response: âI chose to struggle to be a human being.â The journey from masculinity to humanity is found in the candid and intelligent exploration of pornâs devastating role in defining masculinity. You can download a free PDF of this book from Robert Jensenâs website.
Surrogacy
Surrogacy: A Human Rights Violation by Renate Klein

Towards the Abolition of Surrogate Motherhood edited by Marie-JosÚphe Devillers and Ana-Luana Stoicea-Deram
âIn this eloquent and blistering rejection of surrogacy, a range of international activists and experts in the field outline the fundamental human rights abuses that occur when surrogacy is legalised and reject neoliberal notions that the commodification of womenâs bodies can ever be about the âchoicesâ women make.â

By and for men
The End of Patriarchy: Radical Feminism for Men by Robert Jensen
âThe End of Patriarchy asks one key question: what do we need to create stable and decent human communities that can thrive in a sustainable relationship with the larger living world? Robert Jensenâs answer is feminism and a critique of patriarchy. He calls for a radical feminist challenge to institutionalized male dominance; an uncompromising rejection of menâs assertion of a right to control womenâs sexuality; and a demand for an end to the violence and coercion that are at the heart of all systems of domination and subordination. The End of Patriarchy makes a powerful argument that a socially just society requires no less than a radical feminist overhaul of the dominant patriarchal structures.â
The Macho Paradox: Why some men hurt women and how all men can help by Jackson Katz
âWith integrity and courage, Jackson Katz  has taken his message â that the epidemic of violence against women is a menâs issue â into athletic terms, the military and frat houses across the country. His book explains carefully and convincingly why â and how â men can become part of the solution, and work with women to build a world in which everyone is safer.â Michael Kimmel.
Sex dolls
Sex Dolls, Robots, and Woman Hating by Caitlin Roper
âSex Dolls, Robots and Woman Hating exposes the inherent misogyny in the trade in sex dolls and robots modelled on the bodies of women and girls for menâs unlimited sexual use. From doll owners enacting violence and torture on their dolls, men choosing their dolls over their wives, dolls made in the likeness of specific women and the production of child sex abuse dolls, sex dolls and robots pose a serious threat to the status of women and girls.â

"Yes, it was during the early days of the hiv crisis. Then, around 1984, we got money from the swedish state's org for disease prevention to produce gay porn about safe sex"
- Gay rights activist Walter Heidkampf, saying what i feel is the most swedish 1980s sentence ever.
Just, yes then the state gave us gay rights activists some money to produce porn, no big deal lol
From a clip produced by rfsl: link
Ps. Walter Heidkampf clearly was aware of how.... surprising this sentence is himself, and later in the interview points out this was most likely because of the personal lobbying of some if the swedish doctors that worked with early cases of HIV in sweden.
And not thanks to like. The collective swedish state. But still! Such a swedish 1980s moment
#lgbtq+ history#swedish lgbtq+ history#like here i was at my gay rights magazine#and then the state gave us money to produce that#just a normal day in 1980s sweden#walking around randomly getting a bunch of money from the swedish state#this is not to say the swedish state reaction to hiv was not in majority homophobic it was#but this still apperntly happened

i fully believe eddie wouldâin a desperate attempt to get steve into metalâget CC (or just him?) to learn to play an ABBA song. like yeah itâd be more glam metal-y which is definitely not their vibe, but they do a great job and steve is sooo into it.
is it bc the music is good? maybe. but it definitely has more to do with eddie going out of his way just to try to impress him. and his song choices are laying some feelings on a little thick
#i keep listening to the Swedish Hitz Go Metal and theyre VERY very goid#i think eddie would do a Helloween Lay All Your Love On Me vibe to try to be slick in showing off to sleeve#or maybe the Money Money Money cover which would be sexy#like steve sees rigjt through you hes not dumb you fucking metalhead homo#steddie#steve harrington#eddie munson

the king
when i was doing some research for a historical wilmon fanfic at the royal libraryâs archive last year i found a short story called the king by martin andersen-nexö from 1914. it was a story of a king who no longer held any power, but was worshipped by his people who didnât dare to criticize him. Â
âlet him sit!â, the wise men of the country said. âheâs the unsound fantasies of the people, collected in one hand - itâs the cheapest option. and he is our only memory of the slavery of the past. the more he stands out, the more he brings attention to how far weâve come.âÂ
the king stayed on his throne, but he wasnât allowed to speak. the people traveled from east and west to see him, and he had to sit nicely on the throne while the people looked at him. meanwhile, the people invented a road of light that would lead talented people to success, no matter their social class. but the kingâs throne cast a shadow over the road of light, which paralyzed the entire country.Â
after some time, the king asked if no one was upset with him. the people didnât dare to be mad at him, because he sat so nicely on his throne. finally, the king had had enough and his soul left his body, but his body remained sitting. once his soul was gone, nothing stopped him from sitting nicely. he sat there, deaf and blind, until humanity accidentally pushed his throne so that it fell over. Â
i love this story because in my opinion, it pinpoints some of the reasons as to why i think monarchs - both the real and fictional ones - shouldnât exist. itâs fascinating how a story published in 1914 so perfectly describes the themes of a tv show from 2021. because this could have been a fabel about wilhelm, who is forced to sit nicely on his throne as tourist attraction and a symbol of the past, which in turn harms not only the people but also wilhelm himself. and if he continues to sit nicely, his soul will eventually leave his body, because it wonât be able to stand it any longer.Â
#young royals#mine#backstory: this story was published during a time when the socialists and the king were in deep conflict#the socialists wanted to spend money on welfare and the king wanted to spend money on a fancy military boat#the king kicked out the government because of the conflict#it was the last time in swedish history that the king made a political decision#yet this story describes a time more similar to our own#where the king holds no power but is merely an expensive symbol#i feel like this fandom need some anti-monarchy takes because this is not a show that's trying to romanticize monarchism#like wille hates it simon hates it even august is starting to think it's not a vibe#if we're gonna talk about revolutions we're talking burning old institutions to the ground#not trying to reform an institution that is impossible to reform

the way the most recent pokemon games don't let you turn off the exp share or the affection mechanic bonuses is nothing short of maddening. i think they make great accessibility features If Only They Were Optional and the flavour text is cute, but i want to have a fun casual playthrough that's at least mildly challenging without having to make it a nuzlocke or something. i don't want to feed my starter bitter medicines to make her hate me :(
#JUST LET ME TURN IT OFF... PLEASE....#i can't do nuzlockes i do Not have the willpower to stick to the rules and they stress me out haha#anyway i am a fool who's left all of my DS games in norway and i got a hankering for replaying sinnoh games#so i decided to get shining pearl right. figured it might be fun even if ill miss the 4th gren spritework something fierce#what ensued was a needlessly complicated process just to get a copy that was slightly cheaper than full price nintendo blood money#there's a store that listed shining pearl at a lower price. not brilliant diamond - just pearl#i feel like maybe it's by mistake since that's the price of a nintendo DS cartridge. so maybe wires got crossed#the norwegian version of the store does NOT have the price disparity.#anyway i can't order online without a swedish phone number. and the local store is out of stock#so i have several long walks to the store to get them to order it in for me and then to order it delivered to me etc#and then of course another long walk to pick up the mail BUT I HAVE IT NOW. I HAVE VIDEO GAME#and it's very nice and nostalgic with a couple quality of life upgrades#my first pokemon game was pokemon diamond. when i got it i was still learning english and had no idea what was happening at any time#good times good times#obviously no pokemon run is ever gonna be as challenging as my first ever run#it does not need to be! u can immediately tell that a lot of difficulty in earlier games is that leveling up your team was a hassle#and almost always required grinding. i do not miss that at all ! but the remakes seem to be Extremely Faithful#so they're not rly structured around how fast you can level your whole team#or that your pokemon are gonna start doing extra crits or hold on to last HP before u even get to the third gym#OH WELL#you know what's very exciting for me though. i have a misdreavous!!! they're pearl exclusive and not in platinum#ive always wanted to do a sinnoh run with a misdreavous on my team for some reason

Interesting article from the BBC about how over the past 30 years, Sweden has seen an explosive rise in super wealthy people, and the favourable tax and monetary policies which helped bring it about.
Apparently Sweden has approximately twice as many dollar billionaires per capita as the USA. Note: thatâs per capita, so total billionaires in a country divided by the total population of the country. Yes, the USA has many more billionaires, but also a MUCH bigger population.

I wish there was no jury again. Like it's clear from the semis that the public is doing just fine. The jury only exists to pick whoever wins for all the wrong reasons whether it be money or politics.
Honestly jury should have never been a thing to begin with. Saying it's to stop political votes etc. as if its not easier to buy off 3 people than an entire country doesn't make sense and has never once actually worked.
I will never understand why people think the early 2000s no jury eurovision era was somehow worse as if we didn't get the most musically diverse and interesting winners during that time.
#eurovision 2023#esc23#esc 2023#eurovision#and the political votes are still there#plus the added ones for money reasons and radio playability and shit#the jury is the death of any semblance of originality in eurovision#anything that isn't bland swedish pop is immediately considered bad#fuck the jury
