Do you have any Swedish show recs besides YR snd Fejk? I'm trying to learn Swedish [I've tried to learn other languages and always had a tough time, but Swedishbis easy to pick up for me] and I'd love more shows to watch.

And then there's stuff outside of Netflix that I'm sure you've heard of through the fandom like Fejk and Gåsmamman. Gåsmamman has a google drive folder floating around somewhere with english subtitles, but Fejk doesn't.

svtplay has a ton of free things you can watch, but none of those have english subs, so if you're learning you probably want to start somewhere where you can actually understand what's happening haha.

I feel like people just see this is s netflix show and forget that it’s a Swedish show. Like how many of the people have seen the other swedish netflix shows like snabba cash, clark, kärlek och anarki and störst av allt? Probably nobody cause these are shows mostly ”meant” for the swedish audience, but they still get made and renewed or cancelled. Even if it was only big in Sweden it would’ve bern renewed. Like yes you can discuss why some queer shows are more popular than others or gets renewed or canceled. But you can’t compare the factors that make netflix renew American shows and the factors that go into making a Swedish show. We have 10 million people in Sweden, shows here don’t get made with the purpose of have millions of viewers, if they have it’s a great success, like Melodifestivalen can pull that big numbers. Want a wlw show to get many seasons? Make it in a small country. Just needed to get this off my chest.

US population - 331.9 million

As you said, even if nobody from outside Sweden watched YR, if it did well in Sweden, it would've gotten renewed.

I also just find it incredibly disrespectful that YR is a show that is female-lead - all of the directors are women, most if not all the writers are women, there are also openly LGBTQ+ people behind the camera and in front of it - and these same people who are shitting on YR are the ones that advocate for more females and LGBTQ+ people in the industry, but none of this matters because the two leads are boys.

I'm genuinely embarrassed for these people. If they did even a tiny bit of research they'd keep their mouths shit.

Currently taking a little break from trying Netflix on one difficulty level up from the usual: Snabba Cash (the first movie, not the series which I already watched) with Swedish subtitles on.

That is admittedly mostly because it doesn't have English subtitles as an option, or at least not here. But, I am pleased to find how much my comprehension really has improved. I'm getting the gist of at least 75%+ without too much problem at this point, though Word Brain was indeed already needing a rest after maybe 30 minutes.

Thank goodness for some subtitles that I can mostly understand, though. 🙄 And the ability to pause them occasionally, to catch up.
