Me madly trying to knit a Christmas sweater that will be appropriate to wear in Singapore, where the average high temperature is 86°F/30°C.
The madly might be knitting a sweater to wear in Singapore.
Although the pattern (Julgarn by Andi Satterland) calls for aran weight, I'm losely knitting with a wool and silk blend DK (Silky Wool from Elsebeth Lavold), making a size larger. I definitely made sure to swatch do the math when choosing to size up to the 1XL instead of 2XL to ensure that it will fit correctly. Assuming my swatch isn't a dirty liar.

Hi, I absolutely love the way you breakdown tswift songs, and I just wanted to clarify something, that's been bothering me. In 7 she mentions this part "we'll move to India forever" at first I was just like yeah, but the more I listened to it, the more I was like what kind of fucking colonist/white mindset is that? You'll never tour to India but you want to move here?? LIKE??? NO!!!! Don't!!! We've had enough of you white people exploiting us without ever actually ever caring for our country.
Feel free to vent about whatever Taylor Swift lyric you hate. I literally love it. :)
Because you're right, I always saw the line "we'll move to India forever" in the most charitable light. I remember thinking to myself, when I first heard it, that maybe she just loves India.
It made sense to me- because during the pandemic I fell into reading a BUNCH about India's culture, religion, food, anything. (My interest was mostly a result of linguistic interest into how India has shaped the English Language over time). Despite English only being present in the region due to colonialism, India has had a remarkable impact on shaping the Language itself! I emphasize post-colonial theory in my real job- and while I don't write much on India's relation to English Linguistics, I enjoy reading on the subject. So that's why I find it so interesting- because it really speaks to human ingenuity and perseverance. You know? The linguistic diversity present in India alone is so cool- and I really could talk about it forever.
So, I heard the line, and my first thought was like "yeah, okay maybe she just loves India?"
I think I was being too kind with that initial response.
But dude- she's never even toured in India? Like she just refused to go? She's never once talked about India in a positive light at all. So then why would she write that line? Like she will go to any random country in Europe, go to any random state in the USA, and go to couple of select places in Latin America, but it seems like she outright ignores Southern parts of Asia? Except Singapore- because they gave her a boatload of money, I guess. So, why write that line? Why write all of "Karma" is she has no genuine interest or respect for the people from which that philosophy comes?
In combination with her obvious pro-colonialist imagery in her other work, like the "Wildest Dreams" music video, the line in "Bejeweled" about reclaiming the land, and the latest line in "But Daddy I Love Him" about how she wants to win the West, I now believe her line about moving to India to be pure Orientalism.
Plus, the whole issue with the "Karma" song in which she is denigrating the philosophical concept of Karma and making it seem like nothing more than a shallow idiomatic ideal on revenge.
I think she's just an idiot who wants to mention "India" like it's some fantastical realm far away from "reality" (Eg), to her, the USA, as if India is not a real place with a real history and real culture. This is what I mean when I say she offers India no respect or appreciation- you can't liken a place to a mystical realm removed from reality without removing it from its history, culture, and people.
If the whole line is "Pack your dolls in a sweater/ We'll move to India forever/ Passed down like Folksongs" ("Seven" 2020).
She is intuitively linking the concept of moving to India with that of a childhood fantasy- with the word "dolls"- one childhood fantasy which will be ultimately unfulfilled. Thus, I support the argument that her line about moving to India is only in reference to the fact that it's like an unreal fantasy- worlds away from reality.
In literary theory, we call this process of subjective reality removal, and fetishization of the East as a fantasy realm, Orientalism. Orientalism is the act of creating a fantasy of the East, in this case India, that is often full of stereotypes or predicated solely on the myopic lens of western perspective.
Naturally, this facet of literature was mainly popular during the height of British Colonialism in India- in the 19th century. So why is Taylor Swift negotiating Orientalist attitudes in a song in the year of 2020? WHY! Uh- (because she's a fucking Racist with no respect for anyone who's not White and from USA). I've been blind- I fear.
It's such a rude oversimplification of such a diverse and interesting place- and all of her many nods towards Colonialism are so disgusting - I'm actually pissed off about it.
Anyway- That was my long-winded way of completely agreeing with you. You're right it's a shitty colonialist attitude and she should not be getting away with it.

a completely definitive ranking of pran's sweaters in bad buddy
as we all know our parakul siridechawat likes a good sweater, and they are (almost) all excellent. but some are more excellent than others, so: my completely scientific ranking
(if you've seen this before elsewhere shhhhh no you haven't)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. leaving for singapore sweater (4/10) - i'm sorry pran i think this ugly - points mainly because the scene is cute - the patterns clash? or the colors? or both? idk idk
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. singapore office sweater (5/10) - i feel neutral about this - only shows up briefly - sweaters with things written on them = not my thing - also max is there so
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. freshy day music festival sweater (8/10) - i like this sweater - it looks so soft - points off for the raincoat - what even was moi’s costume concept - but points back on for singing the song you wrote with your crush about your crush back to your crush
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. manidi sweater (9/10) - listen i am a sucker for a teal + burnt orange combo - love that it's collared - also you can't see it in these pics but sweaterpaws - no wonder pat’s brain went a little fuzzy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. behind the scenes bar sweater (10/10) - can’t explain why it’s good it just is - the colors, the stripes of different widths - doesn’t hurt that he’s glowing in it i guess - get yourself a lover out of your university's long-held faculty feud
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. kwan & riam audition sweater (10000/10) - the platonic ideal of a pran sweater - it’s cozy it’s pretty it’s cable-knitted - asymmetrical but in a cool way - look out knives out sweater this one is coming for you

A Year in Review: All the times Meghan Markle been publicly called out in 2023. Highlights and favorite #MarkleMoment from last year? 📌Part 2 of 2
These are her humiliating moments over past year that she’s been publicly called out for in some way. All with proof, all archived from media reports around the world. Get cozy, save this post, and as always, appreciate the upvotes so it doesn't get targeted for downvotes! Posting it now as many of us will be celebrating Christmas with our loved ones. Although we are a diverse bunch, this unites us all :)
Here’s some from 2022 to inspire you:
Harry and Megan of “overseas”
the Funeral candle
no Jubilee balcony
voetsek Megan
I love the part where…(YouTube comments on their Netflix trailer)
Marriott Meg
12% Rotten Tomatoes rating for Netflix flopumentary, with her cutesy (mocking) curtesy
What was your favourite from 2023?
Meg inexplicably marching with the Invictus vets, at the front, while Harry is literally on the sidelines. https://archive.ph/wip/VG5SP
Meg wears a JCrew sweater to the Games. Her fans claim the Meghan effect crashed the site. JCrew comes out faster than Dior to clarify it was a confirmed outage for a website update.https://archive.ph/wufbS
Archetypes trademark abandoned. So much for the other platforms manifested clamouring for it. https://archive.ph/wip/yhziu
Embarrassing video at the fundraiser with Kevin Costner where she assumes she’s going to be given the mic by virtue of her being there, reached for it, and is very intentionally avoided and not given it. https://archive.ph/yeZDN
Despite the NDA attempts, information on how the NY Bench faux Royal visit does not let anyone speak negatively about her visit. Ever. She also demanded a new carpet. https://archive.ph/qAhnb
Snubbed by the Beckhams on their far more popular Netflix documentary. “Humiliated” by the snub from the Clooneys at their New York Foundation for Justice event.https://archive.ph/wip/GsB7j
Snubbed by Kim K birthday party, despite earlier pics with Doria and days before floating PR that Meg may do a cameo on KUWTK. Compounded by Kylie’s ‘boyfriend’ Chalomet talking about the Worldwide Privacy Tour earlier in the week. https://archive.ph/wip/BGvVP
Mocked on Family Guy for Netflix contract getting paid for nothing/ spon con Insta for Del Taco. Del Taco joins in and tweets about it. https://archive.ph/wip/Sm56V
Meg manifests a deal with Audible. Audible spokesperson shuts that down. https://archive.ph/KTLnP
William lands in Singapore for Earthshot to lit up architecture, Union Jack waving crowds, and an official tree planting at the airport. Meg and H attempt to compete by releasing a ‘candid’ pic of them at Katy Perry’s Las Vegas show (implying the standing people, phones were for them and not Celine Dion who walked in behind them). Cameron Diaz was also there, but didn’t get pics sold the same way. None of the other celebs present interact with them on camera. https://archive.ph/gnpjA
Dior signs Meg. No, not that Meg, but Meg the actress who plays Kate Middleton on the Crown. https://archive.ph/wip/lH6dY
Harry and Meg highly publicize their birthday call to Charles. The Palace discretely responds with detailed full itinerary of Charles’s busy day and evening, plus the press runs the fact that Charles doesn’t have a cell phone. Sussexes double down and pivot to it somehow being a prerecorded message sent (to where?) with Archie and Lili singing happy birthday. The world laughs or ignores them. https://archive.ph/i0uz8
Move along Meg on TikTok, after the video of her refusing to leave her basking on the press carpet at the Variety awards. Bonus is the real celebs inside clearly refused any pictures with her. The next day it’s confirmed she wasn’t even on the Guest List, which explains the Table 12 seating in no star names social Siberia. https://archive.ph/uC4Y8
Harry and Meg graciously are open to an invite for Christmas. Palace guest list leaks a day later, NFI. https://archive.ph/wip/0dEoi
Endgame is published. Omid claims to not be a friend of Meghan. Two Royal racist names are leaked to the Dutch publication based on Meg’s letter to Charles post Megxit. Omid blames the translator. No one publicly appears to believe them. There is not one single positive review of Endgame in major world newspapers. Omid later in the week acknowledges the names were in the Dutch manuscript. https://archive.ph/wip/Lr8XR
Hollywood Reporter lists Harry and Meghan as one of the biggest losers of 2023. https://archive.ph/E4hUt
Kitson’s Holiday Hypocrisy celeb window display in LA features Harry and Meg. Tik Tok notices. https://archive.ph/7yA3F
Ranker poll has both Meghan (#2) and Harry (#6) in the Top 10 list for Most Disliked Celebrities of 2023. Oprah, Hilary Baldwin,Ellen, Amber Heard (#1), and Bill Cosby also make the list. Update: They've recently become #1 and #4. https://archive.ph/OpKH5
Archewell 2022-2023 Impact Report highlighting ‘Restoring Trust in Information’, including ethical journalism, drops the same day Harry is fined $60K in court for providing misleading information - where he’s suing a newspaper. Court documents call it “ironic” given the “Duke of Sussex is responsible for misleading the court.” https://archive.ph/wip/1YtSe
Archewell’s 2022 financials reveal they only raised $2 mil (two anonymous $1 mil donations) vs $13 mill (also two anonymous donations) in 2021. Press brand it a “failure.” Notice they literally had only 4 donations in two years. https://archive.ph/wip/LqnuL
Not invited to any parties for Art Basel in Miami. Back in 2014, Markus organized a Soho party, invited Meg, and sat her next to Misha Nonoo. Context shows Meg has even less clout now than her pre Royal days.https://archive.ph/wip/aKYPL
Christmas card released. Largely ignored by world media. The response from other media: where are the kids? Called out for its embarrassing corporate look. https://archive.ph/fldEw
WME is "horrified" by Meghan Markle's sinking brand and association with Endgame, and may drop her in 2024. https://archive.ph/mye6j
(Honorable mentions to specific Harry’s moments: with Charles too busy to met, not going to France and hiking in Transylvania, and “in the realms of total speculation”. Harry pitches a Spotify show interviewing Putin, Zuckerberg, the Pope, etc on their shared bond of childhood trauma, Spare the most dumped holiday book of 2023. “Peace talks” between KCIII and Harry since he’s nearby in Germany for Invictus shut down less than 24h later. Persona non grata).
Which ones did you not know or forget about?
It's been quite the year! To quote the Sussexes, thanks for all the support in 2023!

Um have you ever been to Singapore? It’s hot and extremely humid, and depending on where you’re from, anything knitted will be suffocating, especially a DK wool blend. (I'm genuinely curious, and not coming from a bad place, I promise. I’m hiding behind anonymity because I have a terribly NSFW account and it feels wrong to force my account on people without consent.)
Oh! That is a perfectly fair reason to be anonymous and I definitely appreciate it, because I would have definitely decided to check out who you are and then have to back out at double speed because I'm at a very conservative workplace.*
I've been to Singapore once, in December, for my cousin-in-law's wedding (Handsome is Singaporean). I spent half the time wondering how the western/white expats kept their hair not looking like a giant poof, because mine definitely had that particular humidity inspired halo going on. Because the humidity is real.
Which goes to the sweater game plan, it's a pretty loose knit (a little more than 5 stitches per inch), so that should help with breathability. My orginal plan was to go with a good cotton or linen blend, but the other wrinkle is that this is a work** project, so my choices were somewhat limited by what we have in the shop, so a light dk wool/silk it is! Additionally, I'm not knitting the full sleeves. Dear gods, this thing is definitely going to have tiny short sleeves.
So yes, fingers crossed that the wool and silk does its magical wicking to help keep me cool. But yes, if I didn't have LYS shop constraints, I would be doing a linen top for the holidays.
But I might just die. Or wear it long enough to take photos by the holiday displays and then get into something more practical.

Feels Like Home [08]
Summary: When an unexpected three-week break between Monza and Singapore finds Daniel back on his farm in Perth he’s desperate to use this time to clear his mind, figure out his future in Formula One, and find his way back. He didn’t expect a new neighbour, a sassy two-year old, and three alpacas would make him realise that sometimes, what you’re looking for is right in front of you.
Pairing: Daniel Ricciardo x reader (unnamed OFC)
Warnings: Language. Smut. Probably NSFW (Finally, right?)
Word count: 5.7k
AN: It’s probably weird to say this about your own writing, but I love this part. Mostly because I’m a sucker for a nice full circle moment but also because I’ve grown these three characters so much. I hope you like it as much as I do ♥

A quick glance at your watch tells you you’ve got about thirty minutes left until Ellie wakes up from her nap and even though there are still some chores you need to do, you decide to grab yourself a cup of coffee and sit outside on the porch for a bit, so you can try to figure out how to talk to Granddad about maybe hiring a farmhand. Not just to help you out now but also after, when you’re- When he’s fully recovered. It’s definitely too much work for one person and even Granddad fully recovers, he’s seventy-eight, you’re not sure if he’ll be able to manage the growing herd of alpacas.
You’re a little lost in thoughts when you hear a car come down the driveway, a blue Toyota you think you recognise from somewhere, and so you stand up, ready to greet your visitors, wondering who it can be.
Are you a little surprised to see Grace and Joe step out of the car? Yes.
Maybe.
Ok, not really.
“Hello sweetheart,” Grace says as she walks over to you. She kisses your cheek before she hugs you, holding you tight.
“Hi,”
When you let go of her Joe is already waiting, wrapping his arms around you carefully, “Hiya.”
“What-” You look from Joe to Grace and back, “What are you doing here?”
Joe lets go of you and nods to Grace, “It was her idea.”
Grace smacks his chest, “Hey. No.” She lets out a laugh then and shrugs, “Well, it was but-”
“Daniel called you, didn’t he?”
“Yes,” Grace nods, taking your hand in hers. “I mean, I had plans to come visit you soon anyway, you know, have a cuppa together, but when Danny called us yesterday and said you had two new alpacas to take care of, well-” She squeezes your hand, “We figured we’d come over and see if there’s anything we can help with.”
“Plus, it’s been too long since I’ve seen old Oscar,” Joe says from where he’s standing behind Grace. “I was long overdue for a visit anyway.”
You’ve been a little on edge ever since Daniel left but so far you’ve been pretty good at hiding it, at not letting your emotions get the best of you, but now- You lower your eyes and bite your lip but it’s no use because once you blink the tears are streaming down your face.
“Hey, no,” Grace says, her voice soft and soothing. She pulls you in for another hug, her hands rubbing your back, “It’s ok, sweetheart.”
“I’m sorry,” you manage in between sobs. “It’s just- I- The girls- And Ellie- And-”
“Ssh,” Grace shakes her head. “It’s ok.” She holds you a little longer, waits until you’ve calmed down before she lets go of you and puts her hands on your arms, making you look at her, “We’re here for you, ok? Joe can take Oscar to go check on the girls for a bit and I will stay here with you so we can do whatever needs to be done around the house, ok?”
“Thank you.” You use the sleeve of your sweater to dry your eyes and try to smile.
Grace tuts, “Don’t worry about it, sweetheart.” She nods towards the house, “Why don’t we go inside?”
Granddad greets Grace and Joe like they’re old friends and you find out they’ve seen each other a few times before, when Daniel first moved in. Joe and Granddad settle into some easy banter between them and it isn’t long before they head outside, so Joe can take him to Eagle’s Nest and check up on the rest of the paddocks.
You hear Ellie call for you from upstairs then and so you excuse yourself and tell Grace you’ll be right back. Ellie’s waiting for you in her cot, looking at you expectantly, as if she knows someone else is here.
“Hi bub,” you pick her up and head to the changing table so you can change her into her clothes. “Guess who’s here?”
Ellie’s eyes grow wide, “Danny?”
Your heart. Oh, your heart when you see her smile drop, “Danny’s in Mexico remember?.” You press a kiss to her forehead, “But Grace and Joe are here. You remember them?”
Ellie seems to think about that for a second and then nods, “Danny home.”
“Yeah, bub,” you tell her, picking her up and settling her on your hip, “they’re Daniel’s mum and dad.”
When you get downstairs you find Grace in the kitchen, loading the dishwasher. Her smile grows wide when she sees Ellie, “Hello pretty girl.”
You put Ellie down in her high chair so you can warm up her bottle of milk and when Grace asks you what else she can do you want to tell her it’s fine, that you’ll manage, but one stern look from her makes you swallow your words and give her your to-do list instead.
Grace busies herself with the laundry and Ellie insists on helping her and so you find yourself in the living room, tidying up and cleaning the floors and windows. It takes a little under two hours but then the living room is clean again, all the laundry is folded and put away, a new load in the machine, and the kitchen is looking like a kitchen again instead of a storage room.
By the time you are finished, Granddad and Joe make it back as well and all of a sudden you find yourself on the front porch, enjoying a cup of coffee with Daniel’s parents, Granddad, and your daughter, who’s happy with her fruit pouch, sitting in Joe’s lap.
After half an hour Granddad announces he’s going inside to take a quick nap, which Grace and Joe take as their cue to leave.
“Thank you so much,” you tell them before you give each of them a hug. “I really appreciate it.”
“It was our pleasure, sweetheart,” Grace tells you with a kind smile. She hands you a piece of paper then, “These are mine and Joe’s numbers. Promise me you’ll call if you need anything? We’re happy to help, whether it’s watching Ellie for a few hours, or-”
“Thank you,” you tell her, carefully folding the paper and putting it in your back pocket, knowing there’s no use in protesting.
“We’re flying out to Abu Dhabi on the sixteenth for Danny’s last race,” she says, “but until then we’re here.”
***
Brazil is- It’s a race he’d rather forget. A collision with Magnussen on the first lap means Daniel is out of the race before it’s even started and he spends the remainder of the seventy laps watching the race from the garage. They leave for Abu Dhabi the next day and the knowledge that it’s his last ever race for McLaren makes him actually look forward to the last race of the season.
His parents come in on Wednesday and if he gets a little emotional when he hugs his mum, so what? It’s been a long time since he last saw her and it’s an emotional weekend as is.
Daniel finishes ninth in the race and brings home a few points that in the end don’t make that much of a difference in the constructor’s championship but he feels good about. The team throws him a small farewell party after the race and he spends most of Monday a little hungover and vowing to himself he’s never going to drink again.
By the time Tuesday comes around and it’s time for their weekly call, Daniel feels giddy with excitement, knowing that the next time he’ll talk to her won’t be over the phone.
She picks up on the first ring and smiles into the camera, Ellie sitting in her lap with an equally bright smile, “Hi.”
“Hi,” he feels his grin grow ever wider.
“You’ve made it,” she says, hugging Ellie closer to her. “How are you feeling?”
“Good,” Daniel admits easily enough. “I’m glad it’s over. I uh-” He runs his hand over his face and shrugs, “Yeah.”
“And then tomorrow-”
“Yep,” he answers, knowing what it is she wanted to say.
“I’m really happy for you, Daniel,” she says. He can see Ellie nod in agreement even though he doubts the little girl knows what’s going on. “When-” She looks at him with a shy smile, “When are you flying back?”
“Next Monday, but it’s a late flight so-”
“That’s ok,” she answers. “There’s no rush.”
Daniel disagrees. He can’t wait.
***
You angle your phone towards Granddad, “Look, it’s official. Daniel’s back at Red Bull.”
Granddad nods, “Good.”
“He’s not driving though-” You frown as you read the caption of the Instagram post, “They’ve made him their third driver-”
“That’s good,” Granddad says with a mischievous smile. “He’s getting the best of both worlds, sweetheart. There’s no pressure anymore.” He chuckles then, “I can’t wait to hear what shit excuse McLaren comes up with next year, when their cars still aren’t performing and they figure out maybe it had nothing to do with Danny.”
“Granddad-”
“What?” Granddad feigns innocence with a cheeky smile, “Don’t tell me you’re not thinking the same thing.”
***
It’s close to ten when they finally make it back to his place, their flight delayed because of bad weather over Sri Lanka and a long wait at baggage claim despite their priority tags. Daniel’s happy to be back on his farm but he wishes they could have made it earlier so he could at least have gone over to see her.
“I’ll see you in two weeks, yeah?” Blake’s voice pulls him out of his thoughts.
Daniel nods and leans over the centre console to give his best friend a hug. “Thanks, mate,” Daniel says, patting Blake’s back, “for everything.” There’s a weight behind Daniel’s words that he hopes Blake understands.
“Absolutely no worries.” Blake lets go of him and pats Daniel’s cheek, “I’m glad we’re back.”
Daniel nods, understanding exactly what Blake means, “Yeah.”
“You need me to help you with your bags?”
“Nah, I’m good, thanks” Daniel says as he gets out. He grabs his backpack from the backseat, already using the one Red Bull gave him, before he takes his two duffel bags out of the trunk. He taps the side of the car and waits until Blake has driven off before he makes his way over to the house, putting his bags down on the porch so he can take his keys out of his pocket.
He drops his bags in the mudroom, deciding he’ll unpack them tomorrow because he desperately wants to take a shower first. The lights in the kitchen are on and he isn’t surprised to see there’s a note from his mum on the counter, letting him know she came by earlier today to sort through his mail and do a bit of cleaning. He’s already talked to her while he was waiting for his luggage but still he sends her a message to thank her and to tell her he’s made it back.
After a quick shower he finds himself back downstairs, wearing a comfy t-shirt and a pair of shorts hanging low on his hips. It’s still nice enough to sit outside and so Daniel grabs a beer from his fridge, sending a silent ‘thank you’ to his parents for making sure it’s fully stocked with food and drinks, and heads to his front porch. Or tries to anyway, because all of a sudden his intercom rings and with a confused frown he answers it, “Hello?”
***
Even though you try not to speed down his driveway, you still make it to the house in under a minute, Daniel waiting for you on the back porch. It’s been sixty-three days since you last saw him and it both feels like it was only yesterday and a lifetime ago and your heart seems to be bursting at the seams while doing somersault after somersault.
And if you park your car rather haphazardly, well, so what?
Taking a deep breath for no other reason than to not feel like you’re about to lose it, you unbuckle your seatbelt and step outside and all of a sudden Daniel’s right there and cupping your face. He pushes you against the car gently but there’s a sense of urgency when he captures your mouth in a desperate kiss. You close your eyes and moan into the kiss as your hands grab onto the fabric of his t-shirt, needing something to hold onto.
His teeth graze over your lower lip and when you open your mouth he licks inside without hesitating and fuck, that feels good.
Your hands have found their way into his hair, pulling him closer to you so you can deepen the kiss, and you hook one of your legs behind his, needing more of him.
Daniel pulls back then, panting, and lets his forehead rests against yours, “Fuck, I’ve missed you.”
You wrap your hands around his neck and pull him close, breathing him in, “I’ve missed you too.”
“How did you-”
“Your mum called me after you texted her earlier.” You let go of him and cup his face, your thumbs caressing his cheeks and feeling yourself getting a little lost in those big brown eyes, that seem to be just a little watery, “I really wanted to see you.”
He lets out a shaky breath, “How long can you stay?”
“We’ve got all night,” you whisper back and give him another kiss. “Ellie’s with Granddad.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah,” you nod, going in for another kiss because now that he's back you're not sure you ever want to let him go.
“How’s Oscar doing? Back to his-”
“Daniel,” you groan, dropping your head against his shoulder. “We are so not talking about Granddad right now.”
Daniel laughs, “Noted.”
“Good.” You look up at him and roll the corner of your bottom lip between your teeth, “‘Cause I’m gonna need you to kiss me again.”
“Oh, don’t you worry,” Daniel says in between kisses. “I’m planning on doing a whole lot more than that.”
***
They make it to his bedroom eventually, both of them a little out of breath and a lot turned on. Daniel's never not touching her, as if he wants physical proof that she is really here, as if she might disappear when he lets go of her.
"Daniel-" she breathes, tilting her head back to give him better access to where he is sucking in the pulse point in her neck.
He lets his teeth graze over her skin before he swirls his tongue over the now sensitive spot, drawing another moan from her. There's entirely too many layers of clothes between them, he decides, and so he lets his fingers dance from her hips to her shoulders, hooking them under the straps of her dress. Daniel kisses his way back to her mouth, nipping at her bottom lip, and pushes the straps down her arms.
She shivers and he's worried he's overstepped but then she pulls back a little and looks up at him with a cheeky smile as she tugs on her dress to let it fall to her feet until she stands there in nothing but her bra and panties.
Daniel feels his mouth go dry because she looks absolutely gorgeous, all soft curves and glowing skin and he has to tell her, has to let her know and so he licks his lips and swallows hard, "Fuck, you're beautiful."
She lowers her eyes and he sees the minute shake of her head, like she doesn't believe him.
Fine, he thinks. I'll prove it to you then. Daniel takes a step closer and puts two fingers underneath her chin to make her look up at him. He sees her biting her lip and dips his head, kissing the corner of her mouth and smiling into the kiss when he feels the tension drain from her body. He cups her face and gently walks her backwards towards his bed, making her sit down on the edge before he pulls back and locks eyes with her, "Absolutely gorgeous."
He grabs the back of his shirt and pulls it up and over his head, not caring to see where it lands. She catches on quickly and brings her knees to her chest so she can scoot backwards, watching him as he climbs onto the bed with her.
She leans back on her elbows and he puts his knees on either side of her hips so he can lean forward and capture her mouth for another kiss. When she lies down he follows her willingly, deepening the kiss by licking into her mouth before he sucks on her tongue so he can taste her.
When he pulls back she whimpers but then he kisses his way down to the swell of her breasts and the whimper turns into a moan when he pushes the fabric of her bra aside and swirls his tongue around the sensitive bud. It makes her arch her back and he can feel himself grow hard when she rakes her nails over his back. Daniel cups her other breast with his hand, his thumb rubbing her hard nipple over the fabric, and marvels at the way her breathing picks up.
“Dan-” She tugs on his hair gently, leading him back to her mouth for another kiss and he can feel her smile against his lips when she says, “I need-”
“Tell me what you need, babe,” he whispers, mouth close to her ear now. “Tell me exactly what you need and I’ll give it to you. Everything.”
“I need more,” she tells him without hesitating. “I need you inside of me. I want to feel you.”
And fuck if that isn’t the hottest thing anyone has every said to him. Daniel lets go of her and slides down the bed, hooking his fingers behind the elastic of her panties so he can take them down with him, while she reaches behind her and unclasps her bra, letting it fall to the floor without looking. When he stands at the edge of the bed so he can take his shorts off, he can’t stop looking at her, finds himself mesmerised by her body - the softness of her stomach, her plump breasts and-
Daniel makes quick work of undressing and then he’s back on the bed, kneeling in between her now spread legs, letting his fingers roam over her legs before he leans down and presses a kiss to the inside of her thigh, muttering a quiet, “Fuckin’ gorgeous,” against her skin. He slowly, slowly makes his way to her sex, leaving a trail of kisses in his wake before he lets his thumb run through her folds, amazed by how wet she already is.
“Dan-"
She doesn't say anything else but he knows exactly what it is she wants from him and so he dips his head and lets his tongue follow the earlier path of his thumb before he swirls it around her clit. Her hands are in his hair again, keeping him there where she needs him most, and he is more than happy to oblige because he can feel himself already starting to become addicted to her taste.
***
"That's it," you whisper when Daniel bends the two fingers he has inside of you just right. "Don't stop. Don't-"
Daniel doubles his efforts, nose against your clit as his mouth joins his fingers, his beard burning the skin of your thighs in the most exhilarating way.
"Dan," you warn him, your breathing becoming more and more erratic and your body tensing up, preparing for what is to come. "I'm gonna- Shit. Right there, baby. Don't stop. Please. Please, please, please."
He does as he's told and continues his attack on your clit while his fingers pump in and out of you and it's too much, it's-
Your orgasm washes over you, offering the sweet release you've been craving for so long. Daniel slows his movements but doesn't stop, helping you down from you high at a leisurely pace, as if you've got all the time in the world. You guess maybe you do.
When you finally stop shaking and your breathing is back to normal, Daniel pushes himself off and up so he is face to face with you. There's a soft smile playing on his lips but then he dips his head and kisses you, letting you taste yourself and it's almost enough to make you come again. Bucking your hips you feel his erection press against your core and it makes you pull back from the kiss so you can repeat your earlier request, “I need you inside of me, baby.”
Daniel’s pupils blow even wider, a darkness to his eyes that you haven’t seen before but that turns you on even more. He rolls off of you, pulling you with him, and watches through hooded lids as you kneel on top of him, your fingers skimming the hem of his boxers. He closes his eyes when you brush your thumb over the outline of his cock, letting out a quiet, “Fuck.”
You slide back a little and lean down, sliding one hand inside his boxers and taking him out. There’s a bead of precum on the tip and as you wrap your fingers around him you use your thumb to spread it out, before you lean down and take him into your mouth. He’s big, too big to take all of him at once, and so you use both your mouth and hands to get him ready.
“Fuck, you’re amazing,” he breathes from somewhere above you, one hand now cupping your face as you double your efforts and try to take him even deeper. He taps your cheek just as you can feel him start to swell inside your mouth and so you stop what you're doing and look up at him. Daniel swallows hard, “I’m gonna need you to stop if you want me to-”
“I want you to,” you tell him as you pump him one last time and then look at him expectantly.
Daniel reaches over and opens his nightstand drawer, finding what he’s looking for not much later. Getting the condom on somehow turns into a two-person job and makes you both laugh, which seems to relieve some of the built-up pressure. Once the condom is on, Daniel flips you over again and leans down for a kiss.
You can feel the tip of his cock nudge your entrance and so you reach down and gently guide him inside of you, gasping for breath when he starts to fill you.
“You feel so good,” Daniel whispers against the corner of your mouth just as he bottoms out. “So tight.”
“It’s ok,” you tell him, clenching your walls around him. “You can move.”
He does. At first he only pulls back a little before he pushes down again but the slicker you become the more he pulls out, until he’s pumping in and out of you in a rhythm that you know will get you there sooner rather than later. From the way Daniel’s breathing picks up you’re sure he’s not far behind either. You can feel your second orgasm starting to build and so you reach down for your clit just as Daniel puts his mouth close to your ear, “You’re taking me so well.”
His words go straight to your sex and you can feel your body starting to tense up once again, “Fuck, I’m gonna-”
“I’m right there with you, babe.”
“Fuck.” You arch your back and hook one leg over his waist, wanting to feel all of him, and somehow it makes the angle just right and he starts hitting the spot with each thrust and- “Don’t stop. Please. Don’t-”
Daniel picks up his pace even more and before you know it you’re panting, your hands cupping his face so you can look at him. “That’s it,” he says. “Take me in, babe.”
“Dan, I-” you try but then he slams into you harder and harder and you can feel yourself being tipped over the edge, your orgasm washing over you in full force and so all you can do is just enjoy the ride.
“Fuckin’ gorgeous,” Daniel says, watching you as he keeps chasing his own high that follows not much later when he comes with a loud groan.
***
The sunlight seeping through his curtains wakes him up somewhere around ten and he’s a little confused when he hears quiet snores coming from the other side of the bed but then the memories from last night come rushing back and Daniel feels something tugging on his heart. He rolls over and can’t help but smile when he finds her tangled up in his sheets and so he presses a soft kiss between her shoulder blades.
She stirs, stretching her legs before she lets out a quiet moan, “Too early.”
Daniel chuckles, wrapping one arm around her waist and dragging her over to his side of the bed, “Good morning.”
“Mornin’” she whispers as she turns around in his arms so she can face him.
She looks absolutely beautiful and Daniel feels like the luckiest man alive when he presses a kiss to her forehead, “How you goin’, sleepyhead?”
She nuzzles into him, her warm breath hitting his chest as her fingers dance over his stomach, “I’m really glad you’re back, Dan.”
He smiles against her hair, “Me too.”
“Last night was-”
“Yeah,” he agrees quickly. “It was.” He hugs her closer, “We should do that again some time.”
He feels her laugh and she pinches his side then, “We should.”
***
“Do you think- Will she-” Daniel clears his throat and rubs his hands on jeans, “Do you think she’ll still recognize me?”
You put a hand on his knee to stop his nervous habit and smile up at him, “Just wait and see.”
When you pull up to the house not much later, Homer lets out an excited bark and rushes towards the car to greet you and whoever it is you’ve brought along. When he realises it’s Daniel, Homer wags his tail enthusiastically.
“See?” You try, scratching Homer’s ears, “Even the dog remembers you, Ricciardo.”
“Uhu,” Daniel nods, patting Homer’s head absentmindedly. “That’s great.”
The way he’s so nervous is absolutely endearing and so you don’t hesitate and take his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze to let him know it’s ok. You nod towards the house, “Come on.”
Ellie’s inside, having a tea party with Granddad and Mr Koala, but the minute she spots Daniel her face lights up and she claps her hands, “Danny!”
You have to bite your lip to keep the tears at bay and next to you Daniel clears his throat and when you risk a quick glance at him you can see his eyes are a little glossed over as well.
He lets go of your hand and squats down, holding out his arms. Ellie all but launches herself at him and Daniel hugs her close, “Hello Miss Ellie.”
“Danny,” Ellie says again, patting his cheeks with her hands.
“I’ve missed you, kiddo.”
You rub Daniel’s back and when he looks at you from over his shoulder you give him a warm smile.
Daniel stands up then, Ellie still in his arms, and walks over to greet Oscar with half a hug before he sits down on the couch, Ellie snuggling up to him in his lap. She’s babbling, trying to tell him about all the things he’s missed and Daniel listens intently, asking all the right questions with a wide grin.
“I has day tomorrow,” Ellie says then. “Danny come with?”
“I-” Daniel shakes his head and looks up at you for help.
“It’s her birthday on Saturday,” you explain as you run your hand through your daughter’s hair, “but the concept of the days of the week is still a little confusing so she’s been saying it’s tomorrow for the past week or so.” You throw him a wink then, “I think she just invited you to her party.”
Daniel chuckles and pinches Ellie’s cheek, “Of course I’m coming with, sweetheart.”
“I be three,” Ellie explains, holding up five fingers proudly. Her little eyebrows knit together then, as if she’s trying to figure something out. You guess she did when she grins at Daniel, “Like you.”
“Like my race number, yeah,” Daniel nods, beaming with pride.
 ***
Daniel’s all over the place the rest of the week, catching up with his parents, his sister and her kids, some old friends he hasn’t seen since the summer break, and he hates that he’s not on the farm as much as he’d like even though she’s assured him things are much more manageable now that Oscar’s finally caved and hired a farmhand who comes to help out four days a week.
On Saturday though, there’s only one thing marked on his calendar and so he finds himself driving over to his neighbours after lunch, opting to get there a little early so he can help out with any preparations that still need to be done before the party starts.
He can’t help but smile when he pulls up to the house and sees the front porch is decorated with balloons and banners, and has to stifle a laugh when he sees Homer’s wearing a pink bow tie instead of his normal collar. Daniel pats the dog in his head when he steps onto the porch, “Looking sharp, Homer.”
Knocking three times, like he always does, before he lets himself in and finds her and Ellie in the kitchen, both of them wearing colourful summer dresses and looking absolutely beautiful. Daniel greets her first, with a quick kiss that might seem pretty chaste but still gives him the butterflies and he knows he’ll never grow tired of, before he presses a kiss to the top of Ellie’s head, “Hi sweetheart.” Ellie looks up at him with a goofy grin and holds out her arms without hesitation. Daniel picks her up and peppers her face with kisses, “Happy birthday, Miss Ellie.”
When he sits her down in her high chair again he hands her the gift he so carefully wrapped this morning, this time using the pink and purple wrapping paper he picked up at Woolies yesterday, “Here you go.”
Ellie starts tearing into the paper, letting out an excited giggle when she sees what’s inside.
Daniel looks at her with an apologetic smile, “I didn’t know what to get her but Michelle told me Isabella loved this when she was Ellie’s age so-”
“It’s perfect,” she says, her hand on his arm. “She’s really into colouring right now so this will keep her busy for some time to come.”
“Momma! Look!” Ellie holds up the box of crayons and the colouring book Daniel got her.
“That’s a fun gift, huh?” She squats down next to Ellie and nods towards Daniel, “Did you say thank you, yet?”
Ellie looks up at him with a bright smile, “Thank!”
“You are very welcome, sweetheart,” Daniel grins back. He looks at her then, “If there’s anything I can do to help-”
“Thank you but everything’s set,” she says as she stands up. He catches her looking at the clock on the wall, “I want to show you something.”
“Ok,” he draws out, not sure where this is going.
She picks Ellie up and nods towards the back door, “Come on.”
Daniel follows her outside and watches as she puts Ellie down, taking the little girl’s hand in hers. Ellie looks up at him then and holds out her hand and so Daniel takes it, trying to make his brain actively remember this exact moment because it is definitely one of the happier ones of his life.
“Your parents and sister should be here around three,” she says as she leads the way to where, he’s not sure. “Blake texted me right before you got here, to let me know he and Michael are running a little late but-” she shrugs and smiles, “I guess what I’m trying to say is we still have some time before everyone gets here.”
It’s then the field they went to a few months ago, when he first visited the farm, comes into view and Daniel lets out a quiet, “Oh wow.” There is a sea of red flowers in front of him, thousands and thousands of poppies swaying gently in the soft summer breeze, the rolling hills in the distance offering a perfect backdrop.
Ellie tugs on their hands, urging them forward until they reach the fence and she lets out a content sigh, “Pretty.”
“Just like you, bub,” she says, letting go of her daughter’s hand so she can squat down next to her. She picks a poppy and hands it to Ellie, “Here you go. A pretty flower for a pretty girl.” When she stands up she looks at Daniel, “What do you think?”
“It’s beautiful,” Daniel admits easily enough, a tiny voice in the back of his head telling him what he already knows. That he’s not just talking about the flowers.
She takes a step closer to him and puts her arm around his waist, letting her head rest against his shoulder, “Told you so.”
Daniel slings his arm around her shoulders and pulls her close, pressing a kiss to her temple. There’s something- It’s weird, he realises. He’s only known her for a little over two months, and he was gone for most of that, but it feels like he doesn’t have to pretend to be someone he’s not. Not anymore. He doesn’t have to be Daniel Ricciardo, Danny Ric, DR, or the Honey Badger. He doesn’t have to be a Formula One driver, an eight-time race winner, the most beloved driver on the grid, and the fan favourite. He doesn’t have to be Red Bull’s wild card, Renault’s saviour, or, most recently, McLaren’s scapegoat.
After thirty-three years, it feels like this is exactly where he was meant to be. It feels like everything that has happened, everything that he’s been through, has led up to this. To this exact moment.
Because when he is here, when he’s with her, and with Ellie, he is Daniel. It feels- Words can’t describe it but in the end it feels like-
It feels like home.

Our Strange Duet
Chapter 2: This Mess I Am
Fandom: Red Hood
Pairing: Jason Todd x f!reader
Warnings: none
Summary: YN comes to hang out
Taglist: @amberpanda99 @deans-spinster-witch
No, I'd rather pretend I'm something better than these broken parts, pretend I'm something other than this mess I am - Dear Evan Hansen
Jason could do this.  YN had agreed to come over and hang out Saturday afternoon, at Dick’s place, with him.  She hadn’t seen it the last time they were together, he was too worried about his brother kicking her out, so he only went to her.  Now thought Dick was thoroughly onboard with getting YN back into Jason’s life.  Now she was the one who made him smile more, made him relax, helped him sleep, kept his nightmares at bay when she could invade his dreams instead.  Now she was coming to see him, maybe not to fall into each other’s arms (no matter how much he wanted that) but to be friends again, see if they still fit together like they had before.
“When is she getting here?” Dick called up.  Jason looked at his phone, the message ‘on my way’ on the screen from five minutes ago.  He glanced around his loft again, making sure everything was clean and looked presentable before barreling down the stairs, pulling on a sweater.  Dick cocked his eyebrow.
“She’ll be here in a few minutes…what’s that face?” Jason asked.  Dick motioned to the black and gray sweater.  It was an 80-degree August day in Gotham, the sweater looked stupid, but he wanted to look good for her.  Every time he used to see her, he was in his early Red Hood gear, combat pants, tshirt, maybe a black hoodie or leather jacket.  He was in college now, he was supposed to look cool when he met up with someone he liked, not a kid.
“The sweater is too much,” Dick said.  “Take it off and just wear the tshirt, the girl has seen you almost bleed out, if that didn’t chase her away a black tshirt won’t either.”  Jason scowled a little but tore off the sweater, looking around for something to do with it when the buzzer rang.  Dick took the sweater while Jason went to let her into the elevator.  He watched his big brother throw the sweater in the trash can, eyes widening.  “Its also an ugly sweater and if she ever sees you in it she’ll swim back to Singapore, you’ll thank me later.”  Jason almost strangled him when there was a knock at the door.  He tried to flatten his hair a little, opening the door.
“Hey,” YN said, almost making Jason melt into the floor.  He had never thought she would be at his place, walking in and looking around, probably wondering how much a place like this cost.  He wondered that constantly, but Dick refused to let him try to help with rent, so he didn’t know.
“Come in, um, ya, you said you were nervous about auditions, wanted my help picking a song?” he said, scrambling.  He had planned several things to do, books he wanted to talk about, watch a movie he knew she would love but had said she hadn’t seen yet but her appearance at his door had momentarily broken his brain.  Dick was standing in the kitchen marveling that his little brother, the terror that stalked Crime Alley and the Narrows, making hardened criminals wet themselves at the very sight of him, was stammering and falling over himself over this girl.  If he wasn’t the exact same way with Barbara he would have laughed.
“Thanks, I have a couple ideas, but I know I’m not getting a part, I have no opera talent, my voice just doesn’t work that way,” she said.  “But I still want to show that I have some talent in case they do something next year in my wheelhouse.”  Dick watched as she rambled, moving to put her bag down on the couch, but missing and dropping it to the floor.  O Lord, they were both hopeless.
“Can I stay and listen?” he asked, now worried about running interference for Jason.  His brother glared at him but YN smiled.
“Thanks, ya, I would love opinions.  Jason has heard me sing before, I don’t know if he’ll be objective,” she said.  Dick nodded, walking over and sitting on the couch.  Jason sat next to him, arms folded as YN got ready.  It took exactly four words before Jason was falling back to sitting on her couch singing to her and having her sing to him, her smile making him feel so warm in his chest and despite knowing that he wasn’t loved outside of that room it was ok.  She did three songs, one Phantom related song and two others and they decided on one before she looked at Jason.
“Did you pick a song?” she asked, sitting down next to him.  He shrugged.
“I was just going to do the love song,” he said.  She eyed him.
“You want to be Raoul?” she asked.  He shrugged again.  “You’re not Raoul, he’s too pretty.”  Jason made a fake offended face and Dick chuckled.  “You know I don’t mean like that, he’s…Dick, boy scout, sweetheart, golden retriever.  You’re not that, you should do Music of the Night, the reprise sung by Erik, you’re the phantom.”
“Have you been thinking about this?” he asked.  This time she shrugged, blushing.  She was thinking about him.  Dick stood up then.
“I’m going to go get some work done in my office,” he said, looking at Jason and nodding before heading off.  YN looked to Jason.
“Did I chase him away with my Raoul comparison?” she asked.  Jason laughed.
“No, he’s probably going to watch the musical so he can figure out if what you said was a compliment or not,” he said.  She laughed and then sighed.  “Hey, want to watch that movie we talked about?”  She nodded and he got it set up, sitting next to her.
It took every ounce of willpower in him to not try and put his arm around her or take her hand as that movie played.  About halfway through they realized it was kind of boring so he paused it for them to chat instead and it was almost like old times, but something loomed over her as she talked, a rain cloud.  Her smile didn’t always reach her eyes and she would fall silent, a far away look in her eyes for just a few moments before coming back to him.
“YN?” he said softly when she vanished again.  She shook herself and looked at him apologetically.  “You can talk about it, with me.”  She looked down, biting her lip.
“Its just, she would be so happy I found my way back to you again.  I keep hearing what she would say in my head.  She really liked you, said you made me shine.  I know that we can’t just…go back to what we were, I mean, we both are different not, but I’m not opposed to the idea if you’re not.  At least, I’m not opposed to letting myself fall for you again,” she said.  Jason stared.  This honesty was new.  She’d never lied to him, never had led him around or anything, but she’d never been so blunt about her feelings.  It normally took time for her to say what she was feeling without a joke or sass.  Now she was being vulnerable, laying it all out there for him and he didn’t know how to respond.  Her mother’s death seemed to make her more open, more trusting, maybe more loving since she knew that things didn’t last sometimes.  Jason over the last several months had become more closed off.  Bruce knew he was alive and hadn’t once tried to talk to him, Alfred either, he wasn’t sure which one hurt worse.  He wanted to keep his feelings close to his chest, didn’t want to admit to things like she did for fear of the pain that would come later, when they abandoned him.  The silence stretched longer than he meant it to and he saw her eyes glaze a little as she realized that he wasn’t responding how she thought he would.  How he would have before.  She nodded and stood up.
“YN…” he said, trying to recover, willing himself to say what she wanted to hear, what he wanted to say, but there was a door there that seemed to stop him.  She shook her head, wiping her eyes a little.
“Its ok Jason, I know I walked out on you before and I know that you were upset about your dad not talking to you.  I know how scared you are of feelings like this, big feelings, I should have waited before saying anything to you about it.  Waited until we understood each other better,” she said, grabbing her bag.  “I’m going to go, um, think about the song for the audition and talk to me later, please?”
Jason nodded; throat dry as she headed out the door.  He wanted to throw something, wanted to hit something.  It was just getting dark, so he went to gear up, needing to do something that wasn’t sit here in his self-doubt and self-pity.  He needed to not be Jason for a while.

I know you're off line right now, so ignore this for as long as you want (or forever) - but you sent me such a lovely nice ask week ask, so I want to come into your inbox and ask one too.
I know you live in Australia, but you've traveled a lot in Europe - so my question is, what do you do on the flights? How do you keep yourself entertained and not twisted into a pretzel shape by the end of it?
hi lim! thank you for this 💜 what an interesting question! honestly, i'd love to know other people's theories on long-distance plane travel, because i feel like i'm no master.
that being said, melbourne to anywhere in europe requires a solid 12.5 hour flight and then usually another 6-8 hour one one on top of that, so i do have SOME travel tips. i think these are my best ones, but i'd be SO KEEN to hear others :)
if you're flying through any major airport (abu dhabi, dubai, singapore, doha, etc.) remember that they will make you do security again just before you go to your gate. this means it is imperative you do not fill up your water bottle in the airport unless you have time to drink it! i've been forced to down so many litres of water just to get my bottle on the plane (for some reason they never have taps near the gates?!).
sleep is your friend. personally, i don't bother with timezones, i just try and get as much of it as i can. i know this is controversial, as some people like to time their sleeping with their destination, but honestly i think sleeping on planes is patchy as it is so you may as well sleep when you're tired. there's an art to this too - i order an alcoholic drink with the first meal service (usually just after take-off), and use it to make me a little drowsy. during the post-meal coffee service, i forego any tea, coffee or sodas and have a cup of plain hot water. that usually lets me go to sleep as soon as the cabin lights go off. bring a sweater so you're warm enough, wear comfy clothes and warm socks and don't be afraid to ask for extra blankets if you need them - sometimes planes can be SUPER cold. also, use the free mask/earplugs they give you if you can (the earplugs do some weird sensory shit to me so i can't handle those, but the mask is usually great).
if you have any dietaries whatsoever, don't forget to order specific meals. this means you never miss out, even if you are asleep when the trolley comes around. you can always request it later. one time i forgot to put in meal requests on a 12.5 hour flight it was torture. i had to survive on apples.
always bring a charged laptop (preferably with a lot of fic or netflix shows pre-downloaded) and headphones. you can never guarantee what movies they're gonna have and honestly i find my own entertainment more worthwhile. books are a little dicey because if you're flying at night and they turn the cabin lights off, you don't wanna be that asshole turning the overhead light on while the person next to you is trying to sleep.
if you know your bladder sucks, PLEASE choose the aisle seat (that is me - aisle always).
if you're travelling with one other person and you're on an A380 or similar, there's usually an option to pick a seat right down the back of the plane with rows of 2 rather than 3. this changed my life when i discovered it. as long as you have the patience to wait 2223847 years to de-plane, it can be so handy because you never have a random between you and you can a) get better sleep and b) go to the bathroom whenever you want.
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS carry baby wipes. You'll need them for your hands, when you spill something on yourself or (on the 12.5 hour flight) your underarms lol. Also, please for the love of god wear shoes in the bathroom.
during stopovers, try to find the most random bathroom available (good idea to go for a walk if you have the time), set up shop, and do a cleanse. brush your teeth, brush your hair, wash your face, apply some lip balm (plane environments are super drying, especially for that long). i always carry a small toiletries bag (making sure you're not carrying liquids over 100ml) in my carry on. it makes you feel SO much better. you can also do this when you get to your destination, just before you leave the airport (before/after baggage collection).
bring a phone cable. sounds stupid but the amount of times i have forgotten one...
travel as light as possible with carry on. my personal favourite is to have a backpack with my charger, laptop, a sweater/jumper and small toiletries bag, and then i also carry a fanny pack-type bag that can be shoved into the top of my backpack. the separate small bag is super handy walking around airports though because you can have your wallet, phone, boarding pass and passport on you at all times and really easily accessible. this hack will also save you SO MUCH TIME at security check. if you travel light, you'll find it so easy separating out your laptop and liquids at any check in.

Ok but lestappen birthday month is wild (this got way longer and angstier than I anticipated)
I believe that Charles is one to spoil Max rotten on his birthday, have a chat with you about letting Max have total no veto unless he’s hurting you control for the night and the mascara and the lip gloss absolutely make a reappearance and Max is in complete bliss
so Max knows he has a little over two weeks to top that and he’s planning all kinds of stuff with the idea of letting Charles be the dom for the night, from making a reservation at the most delicious restaurant in Monaco down to ordering a pair of red leather assless chaps for himself that he once saw Charles looking at for a moment too long
the one thing he forgets to factor into his plan is you, so focused as he is on making himself appealing to Charles, to the point that when you ask him if he’s already made birthday dinner reservations he says yes without even thinking about the fact that he’s got a table for two
so when you come home on Charles’s birthday after work with a big bouquet of flowers and a bottle of expensive champagne and those new Air Max 1s that were impossible to get AND the sweater from Loro Piana that was sold out everywhere, ready to bake a cake and then step into the lingerie you bought for today, and the apartment is deadly quiet, you know something’s up
meanwhile, the boys have had a lovely afternoon - Max convinced Charles to put both phones on airplane mode because he had already talked to his mom and brothers and had plans with his friends on a different day - and, though Charles thinks it odd that you’re not here for the walk on the beach and the romantic dinner, he figures that surely you two have a plan
and, yeah, it’s weird that you also don’t show up when Max takes him out dancing after dinner, but by that point he’s drunk already and everything is blue eyes and big hands and plush lips anyway
so when they get home, Max resumes his ministrations immediately, pushing Charles up against the door and telling him that from here on out he’s in charge and his green eyes go dark like the ocean as they wind through the apartment to the bedroom, right past the champagne and the presents and the cake with the melted down 26 numeral candles that are still sitting on the kitchen table, and he goes to push Max down onto the bed when he hears a little whimper on impact
his heart cracks when he sees you waking up from where you had curled up on the bed in the little red lace number that he could see your nipples right through and looking at him bleary-eyed to say “Charlie? I wanted to say happy birthday before it’s over, baby, did I miss it? Why weren’t you picking up the phone? Did you guys at least have some of the cake? I made your favorite”
Max is immediately scrambling to hold you, bracing himself for the impact of having fucked up catastrophically, turning his face back up to Charles to see the expression melding sadness and anger and guilt as you slip out of his arms and mumble something about sleeping in the guest room and how they were in Singapore for your birthday anyway and couldn’t get the times right so they didn’t even call on the day
and as he follows you out of the room, Charles mumbles “happy birthday to me, fuckin thanks, Maxie”
I—
oh my god??? ouch??? babe, why are being angsty today?????🤠
no but max would feel so fucking guilty and just😭😭😭😭😭😭NO THIS IS SO SAD!!! POOR READER!!!!

“Me in the Land of the Rising Sun”
Japan, with its mesmerizing beauty and enchanting atmosphere, truly made a lasting impression on my travel adventures. Having explored various countries in Southeast Asia, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand, I can confidently say that Japan surpasses them all. This sojourn was never part of my original plan, nor did it feature in my bucket list, but fate intervened when a friend invited me to join their travel group, which included a visit to this unforgettable country.
November 16, 2023, my travel began with a domestic flight from Davao to Manila, accompanied by my travel companion, though we found ourselves on different flights and airlines. Understandably exhausted by the time I arrived in Manila, I contemplated whether to wait at the airport for my friend's flight or seek respite in one of the capsule sleeping areas. Eventually opting for a hotel in Makati to rest, I informed my friend of my plans, hoping he would reach out if necessary. Unbeknownst to me, I slept through my alarms, waking up in a panic as I realized I had missed several calls from my friend, who was urging me to hurry. In a rush, I booked a Grab taxi, undoubtedly burdening my friend with my tardiness and repeatedly apologizing for my oversight. Holding my breath, I urged the driver to hasten our ride, anxious about missing our flight.
Little did I know that the challenges had only just begun. Even before leaving my hometown, I received a brief notice from the airline stating that our flight had been rescheduled to an earlier time. Desperate, I contacted my friend, seeking any means to expedite our trip. We resorted to costly transportation arrangements, arriving just in time for our boarding. The relief of having overcome this hurdle washed over me.
Upon arriving at Narita International Airport on November 17, 2023, I was struck by a mixture of awe and bewilderment. Despite having visited numerous destinations before, Japan felt like uncharted territory, evoking emotions I had not experienced previously. Overwhelmed by the bustling stations of Narita, my friend and I sought assistance from information desks to pinpoint the right station for our next destination, Osaka. Once we had acquired our tickets for the Shinkansen, the renowned high-speed train, I marveled at the opportunity to ride on this unforgettable travel. Unfortunately, my anticipation for enjoying the scenic views was dampened as I found myself engrossed in paperwork during the train ride.
Initially uncertain of our seat, we approached a Japanese gentleman seated near the window, who greeted us with a warm smile. Struggling to communicate verbally due to his limited English proficiency, we turned to translation apps on our phones. Eventually, the kind Japanese man pointed us in the direction of our designated seats, alleviating our weariness from hauling heavy luggage that accompanied our linguistic trepidation. Despite the fatigue, the presence of the bullet train and the thrill of its speed permeated the atmosphere, leaving an indelible impression on my memory, even if I couldn't fully appreciate the scenery outside.
The fatigue from our exhaustive travel culminated as we arrived in Osaka, eagerly navigating the multiple train transfers necessary to reach our destination. Hours passed before we finally emerged from the subway, greeted by the biting cold of the 8-degree Celsius weather—a sign to the beauty and chilliness of Osaka, particularly in the lively district of Dotonbori. Fashion-forward locals dressed in coats and sweaters paraded before me, akin to a fashion show runway. It didn't take long for me to immerse myself in the photogenic corners of Dotonbori and indulge in delectable Japanese street food like Takoyaki and Ramen. The language barrier seemed like a minor hurdle as I sought assistance during my purchases, adapting to the uniqueness of it all. On day two, I purchased a puffy jacket and winter outfits from Zara and Uniqlo, unprepared for the intense cold that greeted me. Little did I know that my suitcase full of warm clothing would go unused.
In the following days, we explored the distinct beauty of Osaka and Kyoto, aided by a friend who acted as our tour guide. Amidst the routine of hopping on and off different trains, we found ourselves traversing Kyoto, making stops at sites such as the Fushimi Inari Shrine. As we walked the streets of the village surrounding the shrine, I couldn't help but marvel at the traditional Japanese houses that mirrored the animated images from my childhood. Impeccable cleanliness and an commitment to hygiene were evident in every corner, reinforcing the discipline of the Japanese people in maintaining the pristine state of their surroundings. Captivated by the scenery, I insisted on capturing every street through photographs, creating a memorable keepsake. Although we couldn't complete the entire walking through the mesmerizing red torii gates of the shrine due to time constraints, we redirected our focus to exploring more of Kyoto and maximizing our limited time.
On another day, we dedicated our time to the Universal Studios Japan. The euphoric sounds and energy of the park greeted us, even in the midst of cold weather. Embracing the childlike joy that washed over me, I eagerly embarked on each ride, soaking in the enchantment that the park had to offer. This visit to Universal Studios felt notably different from my previous experience in Singapore, as the lengthy queues necessitated my friend's retreat back to our hotel in Dotonbori due to exhaustion. Left to explore the park alone, I reveled in a sense of freedom and happiness, momentarily detaching from any worries or concerns.
During our last day in Osaka, we made an early departure from the nearest station, heading to Kansai International Airport with Hokkaido as our destination. The excitement was building, especially after our friend filmed the snowfall and shared it with our group chat. Witnessing the snowfall became an immediate desire for me. As we approached the airport, I was awestruck by its unique location - constructed in the middle of the sea, it resembled a captivating island, offering a breathtaking view from the airplane.
The travel to Chitose International Airport in Hokkaido was nothing short of magical. Snow-covered mountains painted a picturesque scene that truly mesmerized me. The sunlight danced differently across Hokkaido, creating a stunning ambiance. I was fortunate to capture this beautiful sunset, as it played upon the clouds, etching an unforgettable memory in my heart. Grateful, I thanked Allah (S.W.T) and took a moment to reflect on this incredible experience, appreciating the path that led me there.
Upon arrival in Chitose, we boarded another train destined for Sapporo, the central city of Hokkaido, where we had booked our hotel. Despite the exhaustion from carrying our heavy luggage, we pushed through, fueled by the anticipation of exploring the enchanting city. After checking in, while my friend took a well-deserved rest, I wasted no time and ventured out to discover the beauty of Sapporo. My exploration led me to the Sapporo TV Tower, granting me a bird's-eye view of the entire city. Standing there in solitude, I embraced the moment, soaking in its splendor. It was during this time that I contemplated the blessings bestowed upon me, realizing that none of it would be possible without the guidance of Allah (S.W.T).
The following day, we purchased tickets to visit the Asahiyama Zoo, stopping at various beautiful places along the way. Each stop left me in awe, as I braved the intense cold, capturing the essence of every location through the lens of my camera. This trip became an unforgettable chapter in my life, cherished and kept close to my heart. Even though I didn't experience the snowfall, I am grateful for the opportunity that unfolded before me. I also ventured alone to Mt. Moiwa, where I unleashed my imagination, envisioning future endeavors and mapping out my next five years. From the viewpoint atop the mountain, I settled down with a cup of coffee, gazing out of the window, capturing both the physical and metaphysical beauty of Sapporo. I penned my thoughts, allowing myself to dream of beautiful things. It is during moments like these that I truly comprehend that nothing is unattainable when I wholeheartedly pursue my desires and take action. The lessons and realizations I experienced on the peak of Sapporo remain invaluable.
Through traveling alone, I confronted some of my fears. The unfamiliarity and uncertainty of being in unknown places consumed me initially, but I soon discovered that such apprehensions were baseless. Instead, I found myself welcomed by friendly strangers and embraced by a place I had initially feared. I learned that there is nothing wrong with embracing the unknown and braving the things that scare us, for in doing so, we tap into our limitless potential. Although I foresee a future where I long for companionship, marriage, and starting a family, I understand that these desires are not my current priority. Instead, I leave it to the divine will of Allah (S.W.T), embracing whatever path is laid out before me without regret or blame. For now, I continue to chase my dreams, as they remain unfulfilled and a collection of experiences yet to be gathered.
Leaving Sapporo, I made a promise to myself: to return to this captivating city that has stolen my heart. Thankfully, there will always be a reason to come back. While I had hoped to experience the winter season, the journey fast-forwarded, and it became my final day in Sapporo. I caught my flight to Narita International Airport, marking the last leg of my Japanese adventure. Tokyo, the last prefecture on my itinerary, awaited me. Without wasting a single moment, the night before my arrival, I started on a travel to Shibuya, eager to witness and traverse its bustling streets. The sheer volume of people amazed me, and I couldn't help but wonder their origins. Shibuya quickly became my favorite spot in Tokyo, despite having only a day to freely explore before returning home before my friend. I wandered, indulging in all that caught my shopping, tasting various culinary delights, and immersing myself in the vibrant ambiance. To add to the enchantment, I visited TeamLab at night, an otherworldly experience, where lights and visual marvels captivated my senses.
My love for Japan and its people is anchored in the strong sense of discipline and politeness that permeates every aspect of life. I observed firsthand how everything operates seamlessly - governed by systems and propelled by efficient processes. Whether witnessing children, adults, or seniors, everyone walked at an astonishing pace, a true proof to their respect for rules and order. Japan, in a single word, can be described as "FAST." It is no wonder why this country ranks highly in development and stands as a beacon of first-world infrastructure.
My travel through Japan spanned countless memorable encounters and awe-inspiring experiences. From the arduous journey to the spectacular sights of Osaka and Kyoto, From the marvels of Sapporo to the vibrant street of Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan proved itself as a captivating destination that surpassed all expectations. Its pristine cleanliness, fast-paced lifestyle, and warm-hearted locals left an unforgettable impression on my soul. Japan, a country that effortlessly blends tradition and modernity, will forever hold a special place in my travel memories.
