Visual Diary #20
Tumblr media
Oil painting is the process of painting with pigments with a medium of drying oil as the binder. The beginnings of oil painting can be traced back to the 7th century CE, as revealed in a discovery made in 2008. During this time, unknown artists utilised oil, possibly derived from walnuts or poppies, to decorate the ancient cave complex in Bamiyan, Afghanistan.
The above artwork was painted by Susan Hale. What makes her artwork unique and stand out is she always uses bright colours, expressive brushwork, and dynamic compositions. She frequently paints natural landscapes and seascapes, capturing the natural world's beauty and dynamism. The use of light and shadow in her art provides depth and atmosphere, encouraging viewers to become engrossed by the scenes she portrays. Her paintings are vibrant and vivid in general, exhibiting her own style and creativity.
The spherical shape of the pumpkin were formed using light orange ribbing which are buried deep in ribbons of grass and leaves. Crops with wavy rows draw our attention to the background of the painting, which is a rural agricultural scene with several barns and a silo that add to its rustic appeal.

I've thought about this a lot but haven't posted any artwork for it. I feel Karbunkle from Biker Mice from Mars deserves a good redesign. There are many reasons for it, so I'll give a few here; 1. While Karbunkle's design is perfectly fine as a stock mad scientist, his actual character is not a stock mad scientist. He does what he does less for science and more because it gives him a paycheck. If someone were to offer him a better deal, he'd leave Limburger in a heartbeat. In fact, in every three-parter episode, he DOES. 2. Related to the above, Karbunkle is not some weirdo hired from the gutter. He has a long history of being the head scientist for successful Plutarkian invasions. He used to have a lot of clout and still is so skilled that no one on Mars or Earth can replicate his creations. Even though he now grumbles under Limburger's failed invasion, he is still offered jobs from other factions. 3. Karbunkle being vaguely human would be fine if it was ever actually used. But aside from one joke in the 2006 show, it just isn't relevant to his character at all. So my redesign focuses on these three factors. First off, he is now visibly non-human. His core shapes stay the same, but he has a dorsal mane, fluffy ears, and fangs.
Second, though not visible here, he dresses sharply and holds himself high. Karbunkle is someone with a high position and despite falling on hard times he still keeps his pride. He will still suck up to Limburger, of course. Also not seen here either, but he has a mechanical tail to use as an additional limb. Since Karbunkle's best work are his mechanical creations, I feel he should make use of them as well. Whether he originally had a tail or not, no one knows. His VA should still be Susan Silo and he will still wear heels. I don't want to overhaul him entirely, just make him feel more cohesive.

WTNV quick rundown - 152 - The Great Golden Hand
Read the rest here!
Here it comes! Here it comes! The Great Golden Hand. Hurrah! Rejoice! It nears! It nears! Welcome to Night Vale.
For the first time in eighty years NV is being visited by The Great Golden Hands, a grand occasion which amongst other things involves offerings of human hair. Citizens are told that if you don't have your own hair, you can get some at the 'hair bank'.
The power of the Hand seems to cause the progress of things to speed up and repeat (such as flowers growing and dying) and compels Cecil to tell a story about life and death.
Weather: “Drones” by Epicenter
Frank Chen's family has filed a missing persons report on him. He apparently disappeared somewhere between Oklahoma and Los Angeles.
There is controversy over a new McDonald's commericial showing an 'improper' sacrifice ritual (according to self-proclaimed sacrifice aficionado Lenny Butler) but when asked about it those working for McD's claim no ownership over the commericial at all and are traumitised by it.
Martin McCaffry is holding an art exhibit in the complete darkness of the grain silo on the old Cooper farm. It will be completely dark inside and costs $5 to get in.
Cecil once more takes a jab at his new archenemy Susan Wilman, calling her softball team 'bad at softball losers' and saying their actual team name was forgettable. Meanwhile he praises Steve Carlsberg's 'happy hyenas' team.
Leopold Toosdale, former CEO of Flakey-O's pre-Kellogg's takeover reports, calling a meeting about the secret labyrinth and it's harbringers but also about parking for the Antiques Fair on Grove Street which he thinks has gotten out of hand.
Joel Eisenberg will be doing a talk on dinosaurs as part of the Applebee's Visiting Experts programme.
Having a fire drill in NV seems to involve burning as many things as you can when you hear the siren.
Stay tuned next for a slow drifting toward what we’ve always wanted, interrupted by the constant distraction of what seems easiest. And from one disciple of the Great Golden Hand to another, good night, Night Vale. Good night.
Proverb: "The universe contains, among other things, black holes, vast clouds of gas and light, endless void, a diamond planet, and your tiny body."

New Ragon Institute building opens in the heart of Kendall Square

New Ragon Institute building opens in the heart of Kendall Square
Tumblr media
Leaders from MIT, Harvard University, and Mass General Brigham gathered Monday to celebrate an important new chapter in the Ragon Institute’s quest to harness the immune system to prevent and cure human diseases.
The ceremony marked the opening of the new building for the Ragon Institute of Mass General, MIT, and Harvard, located at 600 Main Street in the heart of Cambridge’s Kendall Square, where its multidisciplinary group of researchers will expand on the collaborations that have proven impactful since the Institute’s founding in 2009.
“Fifteen years ago, the Ragon Institute started with transformative philanthropy from Terry and Susan Ragon,” Ragon Institute Director and MIT professor of the practice Bruce Walker said. “Initially, it was an experiment: Could we bring together scientists, engineers, and medical doctors to pool their creative knowledge and cross-disciplinary specialties to make advances against the greatest global health problems of our time? Now, 15 years later, here we are celebrating the success of that experiment and welcoming the next phase of the Ragon Institute.”
The institute’s new building features five floors of cutting-edge, dedicated lab space and more than double the floor area of the previous facilities. The open, centralized layout of the new building is designed to empower cross-disciplinary research and enable discoveries that will lead to new ways to prevent, detect, and cure diseases. The expanded space will also allow the Ragon Institute to bring in more scientists, researchers, biologists, clinicians, postdocs, and operational staff.
“Cross-disciplinary collaboration is a hallmark of the Ragon Institute, and that is really how you do transformational research and breakthrough science at scale — what everyone talks about but few actually achieve,” said Mass General Brigham President and CEO Anne Klibanski. “Partnerships between health care and academia accelerate these breakthroughs and foster innovation. That is the model of scientific discovery this whole area represents, that Boston and Massachusetts represent, and that this institute represents.”
In addition to state-of-the-art lab space, a third of the new building is open for public use. The Ragon Institute’s leaders expressed a commitment to engaging with the local Cambridge community and believe the institute’s success will further strengthen Kendall Square’s innovation ecosystem.
“As a relative newcomer, I see this elegant new building as an inspiring vote of confidence in the future of Kendall Square,” MIT President Sally Kornbluth said. “I gather that over a few decades, thanks in part to many of you here today, Kendall Square was transformed from a declining postindustrial district to the center of a region that is arguably the biotech capital of the world. I believe we now have an opportunity to secure its future, to make sure Kendall Square becomes an infinitely self-renewing source of biomedical progress, a limitless creative pool perpetually refreshed by a stream of new ideas from every corner of the life sciences and engineering to unlock solutions to the most important problems of our time. This building and this institute embody that vision.”
The Ragon Institute is a collaborative effort of Mass General Brigham, MIT, and Harvard. It was founded in 2009 through support from the Phillip T. and Susan M. Ragon Foundation with the initial goal of developing an HIV vaccine. Since then, it has expanded to focus on other global health initiatives — from playing a vital role in Covid-19 vaccine development to exploring the rising health challenges of climate change and preparing for the next pandemic.
The institute strives to break down siloes between scientists, engineers, and clinicians from diverse disciplines to apply all available knowledge to the fight against diseases of global importance.
During the ceremony, Phillip (Terry) Ragon ’72 discussed the origins of the Institute and his vision for accelerating scientific discovery.
“With Bruce [Walker], I began to see how philanthropy could really make a difference and how we could power a different model that we thought could be particularly effective,” Ragon said. “The fundamental idea was to take an approach like the Manhattan Project, bringing the best and brightest people together from different disciplines, with flexible funding, and leave them to be successful. And so here we are today.”
Ragon Institute faculty are engaged in challenges as varied as developing vaccines for tuberculosis and HIV, cures for malaria, treatments for neuroimmunological diseases, a universal flu vaccine, and therapies for cancer and autoimmune disorders — with the potential to impact billions of lives.
The new building’s opening followed additional funding from Terry and Susan Ragon, which came in recognition of the Ragon Institute’s expanding mission.
“[Through this partnership], we’ve accomplished more than we realized we could, and that’s shown in the scientific progress that the Ragon Institute has achieved,” said Harvard University interim president Alan Garber. “To pull this off requires not only scientific brilliance, but true leadership.”
Walker, the Institute’s founding director, has spent his entire career caring for people living with HIV and studying how the body fights back. He has helped establish two cutting-edge research institutes in Africa, which continue to train the next generation of African scientists. The international reach of the Ragon Institute is another aspect that sets it apart in its mission to impact human health.
“Today we launch the next 100 years of the Ragon Institute, and we’re fortunate to work every day on this enormously challenging and consistently inspiring mission,” Walker said. “We’re motivated by the belief that every day matters, that our efforts will ultimately alleviate suffering, that our mission is urgent, and that together, we will succeed.”

Michael Dean Duerksen age 2 was named Mara Silo Parmiese Devereaux by adopted parent surgeon Dr William or Walter Silo Parmiese Devereaux whom is believed to have performed comprehensive sex change surgery and other sex change methods on Michael, and taken to Devereaux Hastings New Orlean's Children's Home.  ....next:  Olympia Genetic Analysis company, Hollywood, California report on Mike D. Duerksen and done 1959 to 1967 and 1972, and the 1967 Crane, Tx..report value shows deviant twisting of his genes using inoriginate genes by Dean F. Duerksen using a gene sauce of non-Salicylic genes acid, which is detrimental to the target, then orange staple gun genes that provide a gunned like effect to genes, then green tea leaf genetic structure to damage or recleuse original genes by showing in part, Rothchild-Duerksen...and Fraley Duerksen Rothchild is an inserted value.  This report went to LAPD officer Gerald Shrimpton, also officer Gene Taylor Talasco ( and other Talascos: Jim, Susan ) and the conclusion was that Dean F. Duerksen was involved in criminal usage of Gene science on Michael Duerksen to alter behavior, murderous use of Gene science to murder personality or to cause the death of Michael Duerksen, then to get Dean past investigators whom are looking into his genetic tampering to hide normal genetic family values of Folgers- Rothchild -Degeneres. Dean used First Amendment Services, but was found guilty and judged by Charles Colman Halderman (?) with 25 harsh spankings and one year in Crane county Detention center which has extension services that allows inmates to go home once per week or so.    Next: 25 to 29 individual Illuminati members adopted Michael Dean Duerksen by McCall.  13 individual members of the Dallas Hilton family adopted Michael Duerksen.  3 to 4 we're Illuminati members. Some were part Italian and part Spanish. In Crane County, Crane, Tx between 1964 June and 1967 June, Crane authorities used disciplinary actions against Roman Polanski and V. Frykowski due to their decisions to do as they pleased since they had the money and didn't think it would matter in that small town of 3,000 or so.  Mike Dean F. Duerksen was not subjected to any disciplinary actions due to his status as a child abuse victim. Harrison and Sorrills, both from Poland and held to be worth a 20 to 40  billion dollars and understood to have made oil company purchases of a total of100 million and various real estate purchases due to the rich nature of the oil and gas discoveries in that county as part of the Permian Basin.  Purchases and investments appear to have included Dennis and Mildred Fisher Oil Company Ltd...   Other adopters of Mike Dean Duerksen appear to include T. D. Eason, a US Magistrate and county judge, giving him the name of Jim Roy Bean Duerksen Eason and Jim Bo Gordon Mangrove Rothchild Eason.  Also Dr. Paul Maynard M.D. a family physician, father of Tim, was an adopter whom was known to target Dean Duerksen with suspicions regarding Maynard's observations of his son Mike as a patient whom appeared to be a victim of Dean's abuse. Then Ken Spencer, attorney and overseer.  A Julia Crane Gantry Nelson was a county attorney.  Harrison and Sorrills had an unsuccessful adoption effort or relationship to Paul Dean Duerksen since they appear to have viewed Paul as a crick in the neck and a ratfink whom followed them around town and reported anything he saw.

Sunday, 20 August 2023:
Walterio Walter Salas-Humara (Reason & Rhyme) (released in 2018)
On Sunday not only did I behave badly frequenting Gene's Rooftop and then Ric's, I couldn't seemingly keep away from Laurie's Planet of Sound. I had a vague idea what I wanted, but those plans can go awry after four beers. I went in intending to pick up this album, the most recent solo ablum from Walter Salas-Humara, the main man behind one of my beloved bands, The Silos.
I'm riding a bit of a mini kick with the Silos and Salas-Humara. I've been playing three albums without consideration for chronology or order, I've simply been playing them because they are excellent. I think Salas-Humara has one of the best male voices in my collection and when I play his work I always want to hear more. I've been enjoying the 1985 release Radar, his third solo album along with an old favorite Susan Across The Ocean (the original 1994 version) as well as the Spanish only bonus disc found on Laser Beam Next Door, titled Barcelona, a smouldering live set from The Silos. When you play as many albums as I do a month, when you play three by the same artist, it has to constitute a mini-kick. Just this morning (that is Wednesday, 23 August as I write this entry) I listened to the Silos doing "I'm Over You" from their 1990 self titled second full length album, making their television debut on The David Letterman Show. I distinctly remember watching that back in '90 and believing The Silos were going to be an enormous band! I've been a fan of theirs since '87 and while I've carped about some of their work and even sold some of their work, I'll make up for that tragic idea in due time.
Above you see the album cover, the gatefold and the back of this album. Salas-Humara has taken to painting dogs these days and he sells them on his website. That dog is one of his paintings. I'll stick with buying his music. Below you will see both sides of the record label.

Chase. or WUYA?
this is a very tough question because I like them both for different reasons
I like Chase because I like competent villains with interesting backstories, I like the tragedy of how promising and genuinely good he was when he was a monk only to become a monster because he was lied to by a vegetable who exploited his jealousy for his boyfriend best friend. I also really like his dynamic with Omi and how the two of them are both convinced that they can sway the other to their side, that he’s so convinced that Omi has the potential to be evil and Omi is so convinced Chase has the potential to be good. I like that he was all the monks' dad in the alternate timeline. I like that he's a giant hammy cornball who reads gardening magazines and calls Wuya a pesky clown face. I like that he turns into a big lizard.
On the other hand I love Wuya because she's funny as hell especially as a ghost, she's such a gremlin and her dynamic with Jack is a BLAST. I adore how much of a dysfunctional little family the two of them are. I like her better in ghost form than in human form tbh but she's fun as a human too. She's just kind of a mess and I love that about her. She's just trying so hard to be evil and take over the world but she's reliant on others to do so for the majority of the series and you just can't find good help these days damnit. I also think she felt like way more of a threat when she managed to take over the world than Chase did. Also Susan silo did a really damn good job with her voice work. (To be fair, Jason Marsden did a great job with Chase too)
So it's a really tough choice tbh bc I like them equally for different reasons. I guess I'd pick Chase just because he aligns more closely with the specific character tropes I like but it is a really tough call.

These environments actually played a part in the gameplay: you could figure out the pattern of a ground enemy by looking at which narrow path it would follow destroy giant silos and other mysterious ground structures not to mention the search for hidden towers and flags. However, since most of the landscapes are recycled, a sense of deja vu creeps up well before reaching the sixteenth area but, to the early Eighties’ gamer, Xevious offered quite a show. Xevious does never end (perhaps one of its less progressive aspects) and loops after the end of Area 16. The game consists of sixteen areas that play continuously, each separated by a thick forest zone. The South American setting, a landscape that eventually opens up to the famous Peruvian Nazca lines, became a classic recurrence in shoot-em-ups. Below Solvalou, forests, rivers and plains take form. It was the first vertical scrolling shooter to feature backgrounds graphics that weren’t a simple star field. Xevious is often remembered for the many landmarks it introduced to shooters and gaming in general. Meanwhile, archaeologists Susan Meyer and Akira Sayaka discovered that the Nazca lines could be hiding an ancient weapon which may be used to counterattack GAMP’s army. Mu, Eve and Mio Veetha, a Xevian who opposes to the GAMP’s regime and freed the duo from imprisonment, are back on earth on their ship Solvalou and ready to fight GAMP’s army. They don’t receive a warm welcome from their ancestors, though: captured and imprisoned, they discover that the Xevian are actually planning a massive comeback on the earth.įast forward to our days: all above the earth’s surface, and near the remains of ancient civilizations, giant artifacts suddenly emerge from the soil and activate: they are SOL towers, buried underground and inactive for eons, now responding to GAMP’s orders: the invasion has begun.
#Xevious nes cartridge android
Thousand years after the leaving of GAMPs, the brave pilot Mu and his android companion Eve decided to travel to Xevious (literally “the fourth planet”) to avoid glaciation. Right before the departure, a group of humans rebelled to them and decided to stay on earth anyway. In order to survive the upcoming Ice Age, they left earth and migrated in search of a new homeland, selecting seven planets which were likely suitable to human life. During this golden age, the “GAMPs” were human clones used in heavy labor, until they rebelled to their own creators. As the sci-fi cliche dictates, it turns out that the inhabitants of Xevious are originally from earth, and GAMP (General Artificial Matrix Producer) is the product of an ancient civilization that prospered on earth an hundred thousands years ago. Xevious tells the story of the fight between humankind and the supercomputer GAMP, which controls the alien forces of planet Xevious. He was also producer for many Wizardry ports. At Game’s Studio Endō designed Z Gundam Hot Scramble for Bandai, and recently he was involved with the Game Boy Color Devil Children spin-offs to Shin Megami Tensei.
#Xevious nes cartridge Pc
Since then he continued to work on Famicom, often in collaboration with Namco, developing successful titles like the Family Circuit racing series, or updating his own classic Druaga franchise with Kai’s Quest (Famicom), the PC Engine version of Tower of Druaga and The Blue Crystal Rod (Super Famicom). In August 1985, Endō left Namco to found his own company, Game’s Studio. Doing the same trick in Super Xevious brings “Special thanks for you by game designer EVEZOO” onto the screen. Xevious happens to contain one of these easter eggs as well, which is revealed by going to the far right and bombing away at the beginning of the game: “NAMCO ORIGINAL program by EVEZOO”. It’s actually a problem the industry still struggles with – people still frequently talk about games in terms of “a Capcom game”, instead of “a game designed by Yoshiki Okamoto”. In the Atari age, programmers used to hide in-game secret messages (the term “Easter Egg” was coined in 1981, some two years after Warren Robinett hid his name within the Atari 2600 classic Adventure) to get some much-deserved credit for their work, which otherwise would have gone just to the manufacturer. He was one of the first programmers to take pride in referring to himself as a “game designer”. Joining Namco in April 1981, he became one of Japan’s most respected game creators, later responsible for the equally successful Namco classic Tower of Druaga. It was designed and programmed by Masanobu “EVEZOO” Endō, who graduated from Chiba university in 1959. Like with all of their successful properties, Namco keeps up the legacy with frequent reappearances on compilations and other releases. Upon its release, it became an instant hit, and in the following years it was ported to many 8-bit home systems. Most people reading this have probably already heard about the arcade game Xevious.
