Fusion
Susan Point
from the website: "Fusion" is the original maquette that was used to create a fourteen-foot-tall public sculpture of the same name situated at Granville and W. 70th Avenue in south Vancouver, a few hundred metres from the ancient settlement of c̓əsnaʔəm. Created by combining red cedar with powder-coated aluminum, "Fusion" stems from the theme of the "People of the Grass" and the "Salmon People," which are uniquely Musqueam.
Carved and painted red cedar in the form of green river grass sprouts from the sculpture's circular cedar base which is carved with traditional Coast Salish trigon motifs. From the base, ten Salmon emerge from a central axis that spreads out in the four sacred directions. Faces emerge from the bodies of six of the Salmon, referencing the human aspect of the artwork, with cattails interconnecting their swimming forms. Nine of the Salmon also have black, inlaid eyes of carved and painted red cedar.
When speaking about the artwork, Point said, "The human element within the salmon has universal appeal that symbolically relates to all peoples. The faces are revealed with traditional Salish elements... giving a sense of place and a landmark that respects past, present, and future. Spawning salmon on their journey up the Fraser River have passed the Musqueam People for thousands of generations. A story this big means they need to be big to be characterized fittingly."

can't express accurately how happy it makes me that c.s. lewis did not leave room for many interpretations in narnia. it's christian and you can't get around it. susan chose to care more about worldly things than what matters and he said what he said. the lion is Jesus. evil is evil and good is good and people have to choose. and that makes some readers angry because it's nearly impossible to ignore and they want to ignore it. they want it to be something else and they can't make it something else without making it not narnia. love that. that is doing it right
#that's. how. it. should. be#if there's room for interpretation in your writing as a christian you are doing it wrong#if people read your work and get to pick and choose what it means and you left it OPEN to interpretation-#-and they can divorce your fantasy world from the truth? you are doing it wrong#looking at you john ronald reuel#readers you're upset because susan cares more about “nylons and lipstick” than Aslan? 1. that's not really what lewis said#2. you should be upset because she made the wrong decision#and if you're upset because you can't get around the christianity in narnia let me share something with you - that's the point#it's a christian series#it's telling you christian things. this is not lord of the rings. this is not Cool Fantasy World open to interpretation#you can't worship the fantasy world and ignore the christian truths#you can't separate the two. that's what it should be#that's what all christian writing should be#if you write something amazing and centuries later people host parades for your fictional world and there's no God in it? no truth?#wrong. you did it wrong. they should not be able to separate the two - unless the point of your writing was to write a cool story#congratulations you wrote a cool story. but did it point people to the truth? unavoidably? no? then what a waste of freaking time#what a waste of a beautiful God-given talent#okay I got off on a tangent#my point is: be upset because Narnia is Christian and you can't get around that with ease#I am so. glad. you can't get around that with ease#this is why Lewis is my favorite author in the root of me#he did it right. this is what we as christian authors should aspire to#not LOTR. Narnia. NARNIA.#christianity#narnia#the chronicles of narnia#thoughts in the tags#doverstar's thoughts#writing#authors

Ok I mean absolutely no offence to anyone but;
All the people saying that making Susan a villain would be a bold move - have you SEEN the classic series??? This autistic teenage girl has more feral energy than any other companion except perhaps Leela and was TERRIFYING when she wanted to be. She tried to stab Ian and Barbara. She fucked up a bunch of cavemen and put a human skull on a flaming torch for comedic effect.
Not to MENTION the amount of trauma that girl has. Time War? Losing her entire family twice/three times?? (Because she'd have outlived her human family on Earth. The third family is Team TARDIS btw). Abandonment issues??? It's not a huge leap to assume that something traumatic happened on Gallifrey, given how she acts. She's also related to the Timeless Child - god knows how many times she's regenerated - for all we know, she discovered a long time ago that she is incapable of dying, and she has no idea why. Couple that with violent tendencies and an extreme talent for telepathy (even the Doctor was surprised by how strong her abilities were) and you've got an extremely messed up character.
Make Susan the villain! Show kids that if life fucks you up, sometimes you fuck up too, and that doesn't mean you're unworthy of love! Have her commit atrocities to try and get the Doctor to come back to her! Let her fuck shit up!

Has anyone else noticed how Ruby does not have a dad?
They have been going on and on about her birth mum. And maybe, in Church on Ruby Road there's a mention they don't know who her parents are. I don't actually recall. Pretty sure that's it though, in terms of references to her father. (Happy to be corrected if i'm misremembering)
But since then? It's Ruby's mum this, Ruby's mum that. Especially in the last episode I found it,, noticeable how everyone seemed to be ignoring that it typically takes two to tango.
Jazz is about the notes you don't play or something
But also looking at Ruby's lived experience, not just how she came to be
Carla (Ruby's real mum imo) mentions in, i think 73 yards, she's never had a boyfriend/male partner. She has had a girlfriend during Ruby's childhood, which to me makes the lack of stepfather all the more noticeable
Cherry supposedly had a husband named Desmond Sunday. This is what the tardis wiki told me, without any direction for a source, i'm guessing a novelisation? If anyone knows more about Desmond Sunday I'd be interested to know if he ever meets Ruby. Because I'm guessing they don't meet, and her life has just been entirely void of anything resembling a father figure forever.
Like. it feels as though there's big neon signs telling you to go left. Go left, investigate the mystery of Ruby's mom. There's nothing for you if you go right. Nope, nothing interesting here. Literally nothing.
It's like a perception filter almost. Not technically invisible but you're just urged to glaze your eyes over.
