I’ll heal all the parts of you they broke, stitch every wound, put cream over every scar.

I’ll remind you— their trauma, your trauma, is not who you are.

The pain will be there, the grief will come in waves for all the things you could do, for all the people you couldn’t save.

They’re not your responsibility, love; they never were. They did you wrong and gave you burdens that weren’t even yours.

So bear it no longer. Stop holding on. Your hands, your heart— they are tired and weak. It’s okay to just stop and breathe.

Healing will take time. So remember all the time you gave to them; remember the compassion and love— and give it to yourself.

Let the tears water the bare garden; plant the seeds of self-assurance, self-love. Let the digging and weeding become the strength you had all along.

This is a piece I wrote while healing from an extremely traumatic childhood. I was a victim of childhood sexual abuse, and recovered. This is a TRIGGER WARNING!!! A poem that names the names of those who abused me in childhood. And, how I kept myself a victim as well. This was an empowering poem to write when I was younger.
