The cycle of us

Yet again, here we are. I’m hurt, you’re indifferent.

I feel, you run. I ask for simple things and it’s like asking for a hundred worlds.

My teeth gnash and my mouth froths. I can feel the angry kicks coming again. I hate you. I want to rip your throat out as you stab me with your love.

Space gives us a moment to breathe again. To calm the terror. The bleeding needs time to stop.

Each time adds to the raw, tangled mess that is my brain. I can’t think. It hurts. It never quite heals.

Here we go again. I love you. I want you. I want out.

Meat Hooks

I thought I had a grasp damnit. I was feeling strong. I thought I knew what to watch for. It didn’t take them long.

It felt like meat hooks in my brain. I could feel them digging in. Then they danced around me in circles. They only wanted to win.

The confusion set in. I tried to grasp the smoke. I thought I knew what to watch for. My anguish is their personal joke.

And then I saw them

Their mind games became so clear. So small even.

I saw them for the abused, scared, and angry person they are. Their power over me dwindled and all I felt was pity.

Their attempts to manipulate me no longer worked. I saw into the dark depths and hugged them and I said, “I see you.”

I accepted them, and I loved them even if they were a train wreck. Toy soldiers can’t really hurt us. We are so much stronger than their feeble mental games.

I know my worth. I know my strength. They can learn to treat me how I want to be treated or they can leave. The choice and accountability is placed entirely on them.

I am free!
