An excerpt from the latest chapter of The Future's in Our Hands:
Aramis had been kneeling at Isabelle's grave for several minutes when he heard footsteps approaching, and out of the corner of his eye he saw Louis watching him. "Do you have your knife on you, Sire?" he asked.
Taking a small hunting knife out of his boot, Louis handed it to him. "Did you know her?"
"I did," he replied, digging a hole with the knife and then planting a few daffodil bulbs under the marker.
"How?"
"It's a bit of a long story," he answered, returning the knife and then making the sign of the cross.
Louis looked around before shrugging. "I don't mind."
And so he told Louis about how he had known Sister Hélène as a teenager, when she was just Isabelle, and how they had fallen in love and nearly gotten married. He told Louis about how she left and how he had searched for her for years only to end up finding her by accident. And then he told Louis about the attack on the convent and how Isabelle was killed, skipping over, of course, how he slept with Anne that night afterwards.
"And have you loved another woman since?" Louis asked.
He looked at Louis for a long while before answering, "I've been with a number of women over the years." He leaned closer. "I used to have a bit of a reputation," he added in a low voice.
"But have you loved any of them," Louis emphasized. "Enough to want to get married and have a family?"
He wanted so badly to tell him the truth. It seemed almost a sign for Louis to ask him in this place, in this moment, but…he knew he couldn't. He couldn't burden Louis with his secret. This was just God testing him.
"I love France," he finally answered. "A woman like no other." It was the closest thing to the truth he could say. Anne was like no other woman, and she was a symbol of France.
Louis turned his head away, clearly disappointed with his answer. What answer Louis was looking for, though, he couldn't exactly discern. Surely he couldn't suspect anything between him and Anne.

random BBC Musketeers things that I think about a lot:
the Three Inseparables know Constance before they know d'Artagnan. She and Athos know each other as of 1x01 (and by extension, it's more likely than not she knows the other two), she knows where to find them, they know where she lives, she cares about Athos enough to risk her life to save him. She's never just a girlfriend of one of them, she's their friend, has been their friend before she and d'Artagnan got together, before he even came to Paris
Porthos being clearly inspired by Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, from his parents being an enslaved Black woman called Marie-Cessette and a white nobleman to eventually becoming general of the French army
Aramis being raised in a brothel immediately explains a lot about him, from using sex as means to an end - seducing Marguerite to stay close to his son, finding a patroness for money (which Porthos also does, encouraged by Aramis, but ends up actually falling in love with Alice), because, despite being the "romantic hero type", he wasn't raised with the idea that sex has to happen only for love or attraction, he always saw it as something that could be means of survival, to being always gallant and courteous with women because he grew up among - was raised by! - the women who were looked down upon by the society and clearly had seen them mistreated by many men, and wouldn't want to be like those men
Aramis seems like the show's stand-in for Buckingham until he becomes the stand-in for Mazarin
between the Duchesse de Chevreuse and Sylvie Bodaire, it seems like Athos is bound to get together with a political activist who has had some sort of fling with Aramis. I imagine the child Sylvie's pregnant with by the end of s3 is a boy and they name him Raoul. (And because this is a happier universe, this Raoul doesn't get himself killed on purpose)

So I’ve heard some people cannot watch this scene with English subtitles…
(Little correction: it should be: „I hate making my blades dirty.“ I tried, friends!)

...
Two weeks is "long" enough not to be called soon, right??
So in that run, Alain repaired a bridge and crossed it, under his advisor's stern and despaired glare, and we saw a horrible cutscene with evil!Scarlett now going on by the name of Norbelle.
But since I couldn't be assed to grind to, well, play the final map, I just unlocked the cutscene and then went on my way to rescue Scarlett before she turns "evil".
@megafan1993 : iirc you theorised in a comment that maybe angel people can't be Zenoira'd like the bestrals because we don't see any zenoira'd angel in Albion? Given how Scarlett's line is basically an "angel experiment" that went right (like she got magic mc guffin powers instead of sprouting wings) Norbelle's here to tell us that she could be hijacked... even if I checked on YT videos and apparently it's bit more weird, like Norbelle says she was channeled in this body when Scarlett's soul left, but when we defeat Norbelle Scarlett's still here somehow asking Alain to live?
Anyways, wanting to continue on my "get cutscenes I didn't get in the first round", but being too much of a chicken to execute then Cornian recruits (:'( ) I decided to have Alain talk to Gilbert from the South in the final Drakengard map - and now instead of having them talk, Gilbert apparently remembers having talked to us?
Virginia being all "maybe you should talk to Aramis and ask him to reassure his brother about his role and status as the King", well, nope. Just like she told Alain, when we first met Berengaria, that their family matter was something between them and not for us to intervene, Alain went with something like "it's not for us to intervene in Drakengard's royal affairs" or something.
Which had her be a bit pissed, but she ultimately gives up because that's Alain's decision, and he is the leader of the army. So instead of talking to his brother, Gilbert faces his father's throne with doubts and his armored adviser (Hermann) tells him not to worry, and how everyone supports him even if his brother - who hasn't been confirmed to be dead yet - has a better claim to the throne.
However, given how he still has doubts and voices them to the Cornians - after Virginia asked him to "speak his mind" or something - and says he would rather join the Liberation Army, but defuses the situation by pretending it's a joke... well, let's say this plot point is left in the air.
(but it could make for a nice plotbunny in a fic : what if Gilbert later learns that his brother is still with the LA and how Alain and Virginia both kept that info for him? Marriage or not, I doubt he's going to be chummy with the Cornian royals, especially if he believes they kept that info from him to have some sort of leverage against his crown/rule by threatening him to reveal Ludwig's existence to the world and thus directly challenge his legitimacy... - what a clusterfuck this decision of "letting them deal with their family matters on their own" would create lol)
But he swore he will be assisting us in the last battle!
I don't think there are any other "meaningful choices" after Drakengard, maybe I'll kill Bertrand (:'() in Bastorias to get that entry on the archive ?

Athos: What happened?! Porthos, covered in mud and soaking wet: Aramis tackled me into a muddy stream. Aramis, equally wet and covered in even more mud: I was trying to stop him from retrieving and eating the slice of ham he'd dropped into said muddy stream– Porthos: It was really good ham!

I've realized why I watched the first episode of The Musketeers all those months ago and then never picked the show up again until just now
Because of the sinking, strangling feeling that it's becoming 90% of my personality
I'm going to become so obsessed that it gives me anxiety attacks because I have nowhere to put this excitement P l e a s e H e l p
