oh this is horrible, may Allah help the both of you and protect you both. Ameen. I know of someone who went through the same, unfortunately, it seems like this is a somewhat common thing. Mother's who are way too attached to their sons can resort to such evil things, may Allah protect us, ameen.

I know you did not ask for advice but I would like to give my two cents, if you do not mind.

But first thing is, are you sure your statement is true? A lot of times we defer our issues to black magic or evil eye but it could be own our sins or haram rizq, etc.

Please don't go to those people who say that they can find out if you have been a victim of black magic and they can even tell you who done it, they are bogus people doing absolutely haram!

If you have any amulets/taweez in your house, discard of them in the proper way. If you have photos with people in it hanging up in your house, take them down. Do ruqyah daily, have Surah Baqarah recited in the home daily. If you have any haram rizq coming in, do away with it , and look for halal. Both of you need to recite the 3 Quls 3 times each, blow in your hands, and wipe all over yourself, needs to be done morning and evening (fajr & maghrib) daily. This is an authentic hadith to deal with sihr (I can share the hadith if you would like for me to).

Consult a knowledgeable religious leader who looks for authenticity in their learning.

Be open with your spouse, if they don't know what's going on or what you feel is going on, you are doing a big disservice to your marriage. You can tell your husband your suspicions and why you suspect it. You both, together, will need to limit your interaction with your MIL greatly. Do not allow her in your homes, limit to talking to her only on the phones. Keep trusting Allah. And please, do not say you know it is your MIL, unless you have proof, because if she isn't, she will have quite a case against you on the Day of Judgment. To your husband, you can say that you suspect it as I mentioned before.

May Allah help you both overcome the issues in your marriage and put barakah, protection, and love in your marriage. May Allah remove any sihr or effects of evil eyes on your marriage and safeguard the both of you from it. May Allah grant you both a marriage full of peace and goodness, ameen ya rabb.

Lastly, (I am not saying to let go as a first resort, but a last resort): If you have children especially, if your husband is not complying to the treatments, and you think it's time to let go, trust your instincts after making dua for Allah to guide you. The lady I know who went through this is still in her marriage, it's been about 20 years since the chaos started, her husband hates her and disrespects her greatly. The children have been badly affected by this, they resent their mother a bit for staying in the marriage and have a minimal relationship with their father. When I go to her home, it's a strange and depressing aura, I dislike being there. I even suggested her kids to tell their parents to change houses because she found weird stuff in the house after her MIL and SIL came to visit, and in case there were more things she had not found yet, but the husband wouldn't agree unfortunately. So that might also be something you can look into. She still has hope for husband to change and that is why she is still staying but genuinely, no one agrees with her choice, not her kids, not even me, 20 years of all your husband doing is hating and disrespecting you, not giving your rights, and treating your children terribly? Additionally, he doesn't pray salah and says he is angry with Allah for taking his mother (she passed away). If this lady were not a mother and she wants to stay in hopes of things getting better, okay sure, I personally still don't agree with it but at the end of the day, it is her choice. But if your children are involved, I don't think one should stay for so long where your children are being emotionally and mentally tortured. I personally don't agree with it, may Allah forgive me if I am wrong. No judgment to her, her situation is very difficult, but I bring this up as an example to you that sometimes it's best to let go and move on, especially if kids are involved. Again, please note, I am not saying this as a first resort, please do give your best to your marriage, and give it time, it can take years to heal. But reconsider if you should stay if it's greatly affecting you and your children (if you have children) after all of the efforts put in, especially especially if your husband is not complying to the treatments.

Allah’s name Ash-Shaafee— The One who cures, the Healer— is not mentioned in the Quran, but occurs in a narration of the Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Ash-Shaafee is the only one who can cure and heal any disease or ailment. His healing is perfect according to His wisdom and He is the source from which all cures come!

The One Who Cures, the Healer

Shaafee comes from the root sheen-faa-yaa which points to two main meanings. The first main meaning is to cure and heal and the second to satisfy.

This root appears six times in the Quran in two derived forms.  Examples of these forms are wa yashfi (“and will heal”) and shifaa’un (“a healing”).

Linguistically, shifaa is used to indicate the cure or healing of a disease or ailment. For example different goods or practises, such as honey, black seed and cupping therapy, as well as the Quran itself are described to be or contain shifaa. Only Allah is Ash-Shaafee, the Ultimate Healer and the Source of all cures!

The Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: Take away the disease, O the Lord of the people. Cure him as You are the One who cures. There is no cure but Yours, a cure that leaves no disease. [Al-Bukhaari]

Medical treatment and reliance on Allah

The Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: Allah has sent down the disease and the cure, and has made for every disease the cure. So treat sickness, but do not use anything haram. [Abu Dawood]  Also a Bedouin said:  O Messenger of Allaah, should we not treat sickness? He said: Treat sickness, for Allah has not created any disease except He has also created the cure, except for one disease.  They said, O Messenger of Allah, what is it? He said: Old age. [At-Tirmidhee]

As believers seeking medical treatment does not contradict our reliance on Allah ‘azza wa jall (tawakkul), just as warding off hunger, thirst, heat and cold does not contradict your trust in Allah.

Along with strong reliance on Allah that He will bring you benefit in both worlds and will protect you, it is essential to take the appropriate means which Allah ‘azza wa jall has set in order for us to achieve results. Not using these means and tools is contrary to the concept of tawakkul. [paraphrased from Zaad al-Ma’aad, 4/15, Ibn ul Qayyim]

How Can You Live by This Name?

1. Believe Allah is the only Healer.

Realize that Allah is the One who heals whomsoever He wills and He decrees sickness and death for whomsoever He wills. He says: And if Allah touches you with harm, none can remove it but He, and if He touches you with good, then He is Able to do all things [Quran, 6:17] The Prophet Ibraheem ‘alayhi sallam used this beautiful fact as a powerful tool of da’wah: And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. [Quran, 26:80]

It is part of your belief to know and live by the fact Allah is the only One who can heal every disease of your body, mind and heart,  by whichever means He deems suitable. So trust in Him first and foremost,  and then make use of the lawful treatments He made available for you through medical and other sciences. However, never attribute healing to medicines or other means and always to Ash-Shaafee only. Don’t forget to say say bismillah when you take any medicine

2. Live by the Quran.

Included in the guidance for mankind to define the path to eternal success, the Quran is a cure and healing for all types of diseases and problems. Ash-Shafee clearly told us that the words of the Quran are a shifaa (healing);however it is upon you to believe in them and live by them. Allah says: And We send down of the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe… [Quran, 17:82]

3. Apply the cures of the Quran & sunnah.

One example of treatment from the Quran and sunnah is ruqyah which refers to the recitation of Quran, seeking of refuge, remembrance and supplications that are used as a means of treating sicknesses and other problems. Ruqyah is of two types: ruqyah ash shar’eeya (permissible) and ruqyah ash shirkiyah (impermissible). Ruqyah ash shar’eeya – treatment as prescribed in the Quran and sunnah- must be with the speech of Allah (Quran) and His names and attributes, it must be in the Arabic language, or what is known to be its meaning in other languages and you must believe that ruqyah has no benefit by itself, but the benefits are from Allah.

Scholars have stated that ruqyah is one of the greatest remedies that the believer should use regularly. The greatest of ruqyah are surah Al-Faatihah, surah Al-Falaq and surah An-Naas, which can be used as general physical healing, cure and protection for the evil eye and sehr (magic) as well as psychological and spiritual diseases.*

‘Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: In his last illness, the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to blow breath (into his cupped hands) and recite Al-Mu‘awwidhatayn (Surahs Al-Falaq and An-Naas) and then wipe over his body. But when his illness aggravated, I used to recite them over him and pass his own hand over his body for its blessing. [Al-Bukhaari, Muslim]


4. Visit the sick.

Visiting the sick (‘iyaadah in Arabic) is a communal obligation as mentioned in Majmoo‘ Fataawa wa Rasaa’il Ibn ‘Uthaymeen. However, the rewards for doing so are enormous. The Prophet said: There is no Muslim who visits a (sick) Muslim early in the morning but seventy thousand angels send blessings upon him until evening comes, and if he visits him in the evening, seventy thousand angels send blessings upon him until morning comes, and he will have a garden in Paradise. [At-Tirmidhee, saheeh]

The beauty in Islam is that we should not only visit the sick we know, but also those we don’t know, as we are doing it for the sake of Allah and His reward. Form a group in your community of those  who visit the sick, and teach children the reward. Revive the sunnah by saying these supplications:

‎1. لا بأْسَ طَهـورٌ إِنْ شـاءَ الله –  La ba’s, tuhoor in sha Allaah (No worry, it is a purification, if Allah wills). [Al-Bukhaaree]

2. Ask for the person to be healed three times: The Prophet visited Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqaas and said: ‘O Allah, heal Sa’d,’ three times. [Al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

3. Place your right hand on the sick person and say, as the Prophet did:

‎أَذْهِبِ الْبَأْسَ رَبَّ النَّاسِ وَاشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءٌ لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمَاً

Adhhib al-ba’s Rabb an-naas, wa’shfi anta ash-Shaafi, laa shifaa’a illaa shifaa’uka shifaa’an laa yughaadir saqaman (Take away the pain, O Lord of mankind, and grant healing, for You are the Healer, and there is no healing but Your healing that leaves no trace of sickness). [Muslim]

O Allah, Ash-Shaafee, we know that You are the only Curer and Healer. Adorn us with strong belief in You as source of all cures, bless us with tawakkul and lead us to whatever means and treatments are best for us in times of illnesses. Guide us in benefiting optimally from the Quran as healing and bless us with knowledge and application of the treatments You prescribed. Make us of those who visit the sick and gain Your enormous rewards, ameen!

Can a jinn stop you from getting married? A moulana confirmed that my mother has a jinn, probs has it since she was a child and it’s gotten stronger since she got divorced from my dad 22 years ago - since then she’s tried to get married again but they’ve all just failed. What can she do to get rid of it ?

Yes it may happen. These things will create problem but if something is meant to happen; it will happen. It can be jin and also black magic. Some magics are done with the help of jin. I don't know the exact situation but if your mother follow the following instructions. It will help your mother in shaa Allah. So be in His rememberance; only Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala can protect her. Abstain from haram things when we have low eman; it will have more effect. Following are some acts that will help her in shaa Allah

1) Fix your prayers; don’t leave salah.

“Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book, and perform the Salah. Verily, the Salah prevents from Al-Fahsha’ (immoral sins) and Al-Munkar (evil deeds) and the remembering (praising) of Allah is greater indeed. And Allah knows what you do.”

Surah Al-Ankaboot (29:45)

2) Implement sunnah in your life. Must read dua before going to the toilet.

It was narrated from Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “These toilets are haunted (inhabited by devils), so when anyone of you goes to the toilet let him say, ‘A’oodhu Billaahi min al-khubthi wa’l-khabaa’ith (I seek refuge Allaah from the male and female devils).” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 6; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

3) If ever one fears any evil from any quarter, the guidance of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) dictates that one recite the Muawwidhaat (Surahs 113 Al-Falaq and 114 An-Naas), seeking refuge and putting their complete trust and faith in the Power and Strength and Protection of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala Alone; it is expected that their Lord Most High will protect them from any and all evil, and no evil or harm will be able to approach them from any quarter.

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 4563        Narrated by Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him)

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge in Allah from jinn and the evil eye in men till the Mu’awwidhatan (Surah 113 Al-Falaq and Surah 114 An-Naas) were revealed, after which he (peace be upon him) made use of them and abandoned everything else.

The practice of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was to recite the Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Naas at least three times in the mornings and the evenings, and also when he (peace be upon him) retired for the night to sleep…..

Abdallah b. Habib reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Speak.” I asked, “O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), what should I say?” He (peace be upon him) replied, “Recite Surat Al-Ikhlas, and the two last Surahs (i.e. Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas) in the morning and evening three times, and it will suffice you for everything.”

4) Recite surah baqara last two ayah before sleeping.

In a hadith narrated by Abu Mas’ud, the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “If somebody recited the last two Verses of Surat Al-Baqara at night, that will be sufficient for him.” (Bukhari)

5) Recite “Hasbunallahu wa Ni’mal Wakeel” all the time

“Allah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us).”Surah Al ‘Imran (3:173)

Ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) said: When (Prophet) Ibraheem(عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم) was thrown into the fire, he said: “Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and, He is the Best Disposer of affairs.” So did Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (ﷺ), when he was told: “A great army of the pagans had gathered against him, so fear them”. But this (warning) only increased him and the Muslims in Faith and they said: “Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)”. [Al-Bukhari].

6) Recite surah kausar when you feel black magic/jin symptoms.

7) Recite ya qaharroo; its the name of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. 11 hundred times in fajr and in magrib with 11 times salawat in begining and in the end. (This was told by the imam for the black magic and jin)

8) Recite this dua 7 times in morning and in evening time and if possible all the time.

May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala make things easier for her.
