The epilogue to the episode was also nice to see, also I'm damn sure the planet knows, they have to because you don't just get invited to some random after party without who it's for, they had to have known especially since Sam was fucking there like seriously they know and they've known for long

I love the other scenes, Kara helping construction, though I am a bit sad she didn't get to keep her scar, that would've been badass, but yea the ending was lovely, Clark being so supportive of Lois is no suprise and I love that final kiss we get for this season, and soup on the roof

Also the way they fly away holding eachother hand, also Jimmy and Kara holding hands?? When's the wedding guys??

4 - What's my personality: I am very quiet and I always try to be invisible (mostly because I don't like my height), I don't enjoy having to talk to a lot of people, I hate making birthday parties because I don't enjoy too much attention on me. And going to crowded places doesn't suit me. I am very clingy, my love languages are quality time and physical touch, but I just show this to people who I really feel comfortable, and, now, it's just with my mom.

5 - My interest: I love reading fanfics and writing them. I love watching streamers playing funny or horror games, and I love to play them too (even if I literally jump from my seat when something is following me).

6 - Trivia: I love birds. They're so cute, I can't. I enjoy playing volleyball and wasting my energy running as fast as I can. I get flustered easily, all my face turns red with just talking to someone strange.

He fell for you from the moment he first saw you. He just couldn't tear his gaze away from you.

You spoke a few times, mainly when you were both looking to get a new game from the clergy's collection. You kept meeting in the horror section.

He knew you were quiet and he sensed you didn't like crowded places or too much attention. So when he asked you out it was evening time at the Ministry, and the sun had just started to set. He found you reading a fanfic sat on a bench in the cloisters.

He sat down next to you "I umm, how to say, I would like it if we could go on a date sì?" He shifted a little. "But I would understand if you said no. But I was thinking, we could play some horror games together?" He made a few nervous rat noise "But I jump at them a lot."

Sometimes you sit in the garden together and while you watch the birds he is watching his rats. He got Primo and the Ghouls to build them an outdoor enclosure. Copia suprised you one time by brinigng bird food along. This meant you got to see loads of them and really close up.

If he sees you getting flustered, he notices your face turning red at the first flush, he'll come over to you and he'll talk to whoever it is. This is when you see Papa Emeritus IV, he very confidently deals with the situation, excuses both of you, and makes sure you are okay.

He and the Ghouls love playing volleyball with you! It gets a little competitive between the Ghouls but it's all good natured. Copia will use any excuse to come over to you and give you a kiss, it's very cute. You do a good shot he's there, win the game and he'll gather you up in his arms twirl you around and then kiss you.

september 2024 wrap-up - adult fiction

this month i read thirteen (13) adult novels and two (2) adult novellas.

vampire hunter d omnibus 5 by kikuchi hideyuki 📖🌟🌟🌟🌟

i debated including this in september rather than august because i only read the last ~50 pages in september, but i'm putting it here.

i really love vampire hunter d, and this volume was no exception. i will say that i like the single-part novels more. the two- and especially three-part novels tend to lose my attention the longer they go on. i'm very glad that twin shadowed knight was two parts rather than three, because i would have gotten very tired of fake d had he stuck around even a little bit longer.

burning roses by s.l. huang 📖 🌟🌟🌟

picked this up at a book swap because i read and decently enjoyed a full-length novel by this author, and much like the water outlaws i thought this was just okay. i think because it's so short (it's a novella) i simply wasn't able to get invested in the characters in the way i eventually did for the characters in the water outlaws.

without spoilers, i also think the messaging was made a little hollow by giving rosa a reason to hate the beast. if you're going to establish that rosa is weighed down by the guilt of the murders she committed out of bigotry, having the defining murder of her life that she spends the entire novella thinking about be justified because acutally he was a horrible person, it wasn't just rosa's own bigotry, feels flat.

a magical girl retires by park seolyeon 📚 🌟🌟🌟

i did really enjoy this, but i think between this and burning roses i'm not much of a novella enjoyer. i just wasn't able to connect with the characters enough for it to leave an impact on me.

i quite liked the worldbuilding of this reality where magical girls simply exist and are known. i liked the concept of the magical girls' anticipated world savior going bad. a fun read if you have a couple of hours to kill. and the illustrations were great!

siren queen by nghi vo 📖 🌟🌟🌟🌟

i enjoyed this a whole lot! i thought i was going to give this a three star because the first third or so was (to me) really slow and unengaging, but once it picked up it really picked up.

siren queen takes place a few decades before, but if you liked the ideas last night at the telegraph club explored about the intersection of chinese-american and lesbian culture in 20th century california, but you'd like to see them explored in a more mature and adult context (and you also don't mind the magical realism aspect) this is a great read. it's also great if the "golden age of hollywood" and filmmaking under the studio system are topics that interest you.

wolverine: violent tendencies by marc cerasini 📖 🌟🌟🌟

i've been working my way through the pocket star wolverine books, and what holds true for all of them that i've read thus far is that there are a couple really interesting ideas or scenes that the author brings to the table, but they can never achieve more than a three star because they're all written as though they're political action novels.

orlando by virginia woolf 📖 🌟🌟🌟

i definitely enjoyed this more than the other virginia woolf books i've read, perhaps because, as opposed to mrs. dalloway or to the lighthouse, there's more of a central story, even if that story is simply "orlando's life".

that being said, i'm slowly coming to the conclusion that perhaps virginia woolf's writing just isn't for me. which is a shame because i really wanted to like her.

legends and lattes by travis baldree 📖 🌟🌟🌟🌟

another book i picked up at the book swap that i absolutely don't think i would have read otherwise. and i suprised myself by really enjoying it! i don't think i'm going to be reading much more cozy fantasy after this - high / epic fantasy is still where my tastes lie - but i do believe i'm going to read the prequel novel eventually.

i do have to say that, for all this book dwells on community and togetherness and how there's a little something good in everyone, the main antagonist was almost distractingly two-dimensional. it honestly suprised me a bit that this other character, who is a literal mob boss that sends her henchmen to threaten the main character before everything is resolved, is given more grace and humanity than the main antagonist, who is just kind of an asshole. he was very flat and honestly if he hadn't been this might have been a five star.

x-men: the legacy quest book one by steve lyons 📖 🌟🌟🌟🌟

in contrast to the wolverine novel i read this month, i enjoyed this first installment in the legacy quest trilogy a whole lot. it's very short but it manages to fit a lot in without feeling crammed, and it reads like something written by a genuine fan of the x-men rather than someone who just contracted to write an x-men novel for the paycheck.

the fire within them by matthew ward 📖 🌟🌟🌟🌟

i read the first book in this series and gave it a three-star rating, and typically if i rate the first in a series below four stars i don't continue. however, i made an exception because the way it ended seemed like my main complaint about the first book would not be present in the second. and i was right!

the darkness before them felt very plotless - the main character had a goal, to be sure, but it was more of a generalized "i would like to achieve this at some point" goal more than a driving motivation. however, the fire within them felt a lot more focused and as such i enjoyed it a lot more. i also felt like i was able to appreciate the lore and worldbuilding more now that i wasn't sitting around waiting for the plot to happen.

this also ended in a way that really intrigued me and has me excited for the release of the third book!

x-men: the legacy quest book two by steve lyons 📖 🌟🌟🌟

not as good as the first book, i'll be real with you. it still has all of the aspects i liked about the first book, but without spoilers: there were way too many twists in one book. the first book packed a lot in without feeling crammed or bloated, but this one did not succeed in that sense. there were so many twists and untwists that by the end of the novel i just felt confused. still excited to read the final book though!

the last of the book swap picks. i have been trying recently to get outside my comfort zone and read more general / literary fiction, but i'm starting to think that i'm just not made for it.

the only thing saving this from a one-star is that there were passages or scenes where i thought the prose was objectively well-written, even if i was not enjoying the actual experience of reading them at all. i don't see how anyone could enjoy this book. i somehow felt incredibly slow despite only being ~250 pages, it felt very juvenile in that there was a lot of gross imagery seemingly only there for shock value, and there was a lengthy scene where a character gives a detailed account of a child being sexually abused for no discernable reason.

the fox wife by yangsze choo 📚 🌟🌟🌟🌟

this took me way too long to get to but i ended up really liking it. snow, the central character, is one that it took some time for me to get attatched to, but once i did i found her very compelling. the slow drip-feeding of information about her life and her motivations made for an engaging read; it was just slow enough that it kept me hook but not too slow that it bored me before i could get to the end.

i do find myself going back and forth on whether i think the dual-perspective helped or harmed the novel. at the very least i think it could have benefited if it wasn't so married to the alternating-every-chapter approach to the dual pov. there were just a handful of chapters where it really felt that they could have been one chapter, but were split into two or more because the book needed to have enough chapters from each of the two characters' perspectives that they could be alternated one after another.

the sunlit man by brandon sanderson 📖 🌟🌟🌟🌟

having read two of the other four intitial secret projects (tress of the emerald sea and yumi and the nightmare painter) i will say that this is my least favorite thus far, but it's a high compliment to the collection as whole that i'm still giving my "least favorite" four stars. it took me far longer to get invested (ha ha) in the sunlit man that the other two, but that might have been due to the fact that i wasn't feeling well when i started reading it so i don't want to judge it too harhsly on that.

nomad is a really fun character, and i got more and more attatched to him as more and more was revealed about his life, which is the opposite of what i was expecting; a lot of my early intrigue came from the mystery surrounding him, so i lowkey expected that to fall off as more was revealed. and, despite this being the only non-cosmere secret project to not be narrated by hoid, it's for sure more connected to the cosmere as a whole than tress of the emerald sea and yumi and the nightmare painter are. if any of the secret projects are going to be your first forray into the cosmere, it should not be this one.

the well of loneliness by radclyffe hall 📖 🌟🌟🌟🌟

i've been meaning to read this for a long time and finally got around to it! i know a lot of people dislike this novel, but i personally got a lot of enjoyment out of it. yes, it has a very unhappy ending, and that ending comes about in a very frustrating way, but seeing as it's a pseudo-autobiographical novel i don't want to come down too hard on the sense of hopelessness that's expressed.

Maria and Val’s relationship dynamic!!!!!

Maria and Valkyrie have a really interesting dynamic that is probably my top five favorite dynamics I've ever written. In part, because their relationship and how each of them views the relationship changes drastically throughout their story. I also love it because of how much it ties into their (especially Maria's) backstories.

To start, Maria's been in the sketchy, dark, parts of the city ever since she was a small child. She grew up in a poor family and eventually joined the movement lead by the holder of the Dark Saber (the movement is currently unnamed, I think.) to make ends meet. The holder of the Dark Saber announced that he would take on an apprentice who would be chosen through a series of trials. Maria and her best friend both wanted this so much that they agreed they'd both participate, but neither would take the apprenticeship. They both got to the very end, but her bestie ended up betraying her and nearly killing her and eventually taking over the Dark Saber when the old holder passed away.

Cut to Valkyrie who's always been literally destined to be 'the hero'. She's fated to take down the Dark Saber, and her loveline reads "You Get The Girl" (Unless we changed it). However, she's married to one of her best friends, Onyx, who is definitely not a girl, and who she's pretty sure is in love with their mutual friend, Killian, who's fated to be the villain (more specifically, to cause her death). When she meets Maria, she's angry because she hates all the attention she gets for being the hero that she doesn't want to be and she's just run away from her husband who she never loved in that way (they married because his loveline said they would.) because suprise, she's actually lesbian. Maria, considerably bitter at the world finds Val in the midst of her mental crisis and befriends her, hoping to use her instability to take down her worst enemy, the current holder of the Dark Saber. She convinces Val that she doesn't have to follow her fate. After all, what are the fates going to do? Kill her? That's Killian's job, isn't it?

Overtime, Maria's anger cools as she realizes she's actually falling for Val and maybe she can forget her old life if it means sharing a new one with Val. But by this time, Valkyrie has already completed her fate without thinking about it by taking down the holder of the Dark Saber, claiming for herself and establishing the Dark Throne firmly placing herself in #VillainStatus. Their relationship (now dating) turns into an extremely loving one, surprisingly healthy considering they're the villains of this story. When Val dies at the end, Maria is completely torn apart, not only because she lost the love of her life, but because she lost someone dear to her directly because of the accursed Dark Saber again. What initially started as a manipulation tactic grows into a love more fierce than I have ever written before.

I really love these characters and their dynamic because it does this funny thing where it gives Maria redemption, but at the exact same time, turns her into the world's second biggest villain and I think that's really cool.
