"Ah, hello Etie. How have you been faring?" Edelgard greets with a wave of the hand as she makes her way closer. "It's good to see you. But, more than that.." A gesture towards the similarly colored item in her white locks. "Our alliance-ship makes its way even here. How excellent." There is an airiness to her words; remembrance of Etie's strength and perseverance. The further their paths cross like this, the more Adrestia's heir draws an inkling of wonder on her as a person. Familiarity stretches ever-closer towards reliance as specks of knowledge seep through her words.
She takes in a breath of fresh air and inches another step forward. "Do you have a moment? Last we spoke, the circumstances allowed only for battle prowess. Seeing you again, I'd like to know you better as a person. Would you mind telling me a thing or two?"
"Oh, Princess! Hello."
Edelgard is... casual. Kind of. Would it be rude not to bow? Curtsy? Since Etie's lieges were also her childhood friends, the standards of formality tended to muddle with Alfred and Celine. But this was THE Imperial Princess of Adrestia, and the last thing Etie wanted to do was cast a poor image of Alfred, Celine, or Firene through her actions.
So, maybe not a bow... but a wave? That was okay. Right?
Play it cool, Etie.
"It's good—um, great! I mean, GREAT to see you, too!" She waves. A little too late. Gah. Things were much more awkward when she didn't have the adrenaline of battle to focus on. "But, thanks. I feel the same. I know our team has excellent chances with a lady of your skill on our side."
Edelgard's next question comes as something of a surprise. Etie guessed it made sense, to want to get to know a teammate better. Still, she didn't expect the interest. "Oh... sure. It's a bit of a broad request, but I'm happy to talk about whatever you want! My hometown, the things I like..."
She smiles, "But you have to promise to tell me more about yourself, too. Over tea, of course. It wouldn't be fair for me to dominate the conversation! I only plan to do that with the competition."

[ rainfall ] sender finds receiver out alone in the rain
It is raining at the academy, a sudden downpour of the evening after classes conclude for the day. Her bag drops to the cement with a heavy thud. Weightless, Lilina, without knowing why, strides out to the yard to stand in the middle of the storm.
Rain pelt her face and soak her clothes in cool droplets. It is out of the ordinary to enjoy weather such as this, but she would take it over Ilia’s freezing snowfalls any day. Her head tilts back to look up to the sky. Rain, snow, any weather as immutable as what they had witnessed that day in Ilia. The smell of death set in those rooms and the soulless stares of their enemy who she had once considered an ally.
What a blessing and a curse to feel everything as passionately as the flames that licks at and scorches her fingertips. She wonders now, and back then too, if there ever was a chance for redemption, a chance at a different life for the siblings. Though she died with anger tangled in the threads of her heart, these recent days of solitude have her pondering and perhaps even wishing that things could have been different. “Sometimes, we must face things we do not like.” Her own words echo back at her.
“Lady Edelgard,” she greets finally upon seeing the other standing a ways from her. She had felt her presence before she made herself known.
Lilina is hesitant to ask for her opinion, though what they had been through felt so realistic she could not be certain. What would she think? Or maybe it was a question of how. It may be best for now to look towards the present and the future than to chase far-flung answers that are no longer in her control. Were they ever?
The Ostian spins on her heels, losing her balance and traction with a practiced lilt of a laugh as she rights herself. Brushing away sopping wet bangs from her forehead, eyes are skyward, she exclaims, “Doesn’t the rain feel great?” To grasp something that is real and present with her. Moments later Lilina makes her way back to shelter. “Though, I suppose we shouldn’t stay out here for much longer, no matter how refreshing it feels.”

Another cannon shot, another step in to protect Katarina from the toxicity of its magic. No matter how many hits she took, Etie continued to stand strong, and would do so until this shadow was finally...
...hopefully...
Brought down.
Bond (Edelgard) activates! Renewal activates! +3HP [Etie 10/10HP]
"Going for the weapon? Great idea. Disarming him might slow him down a bit..."
Etie 10/10HP uses Chain Guard on Katarina 10/10HP. Katarina 10/10HP is protected by Chain Guard and will receive 0 damage the next time she is attacked.
Etie's arms are held defensively in front of her, body shielding Katarina's in preparation for another attack. "I've got your back. Or... front, I guess." She chuckles a bit sheepishly at her own correction, sparing a smile for the lavender-haired girl before turning to the rest of the team.
"Is everyone holding up alright? If we hang on just a bit more, I think we might be able to finish this!"
Though it isn't something she should indulge in on the battlefield, Katarina can feel guilt and frustration attempting to lay their ungainly weights across her shoulders. Never mind that. The constancy of the pain she causes Etie, however small, or the fact that despite the exhaustion beginning to wear on the shade's face, she knows she has contributed little and less to that...
Though she exhales a steady breath, it's evident that she's changed her tactic for the one shot, at least. As the shade loads its cannon (that it should need to load its weapon with physical ammunition, yet its onslaught is magical in nature... curious, that), Katarina takes note of where it had reached. Another arrow, another retaliation -- another pain she has forced Etie to take.
Katarina 10/10HP hits Black Knight3/10HP with Bow of Zoltan [Roll: 6 + 8 = 14; -0HP, Black Knight3/10HP] Black Knight3/10HP hits Katarina 10/10HP with Venom Blast [Roll: 16 - 8 = 8; -6HP, Katarina 10/10HP] Black Knight has run out of ammunition for Venom Blast. Katarina is protected by Chain Guard! Etie takes 2 damage. [Etie 8/10HP] Katarina 10/10HP hits Black Knight3/10HP with Bow of Zoltan [Roll: 16 + 8 = 24; -0HP, Black Knight3/10HP]
But no sooner than she has recovered does she let another fly, this time striking not the shade itself, but what it needs to answer in kind. Yet it does not even fluster; it only attempts to reload for but a moment, realizes the futility of the task, and changes gear.
How many... never mind.

"Not all fond." She gives a little scoff, "It became a battlefield once, riddled with monsters and enemy soldiers. It took just about everything to protect the people living there, too."
That poor, beautiful place...
Etie trails off, her expression growing distant for a moment. "...But that's one benefit of my training." She comes back to the present, "I can be strong enough to protect the peace we all deserve to have."
She continues, part in response to Edelgard's own words. "It's something I had to learn the hard way, that peace isn't always guaranteed. Having grown up pampered in a manor, in a land that hardly knew any strife? Well, it definitely made me take more than a few things for granted."
Edelgard stops to pick up the seashell, and Etie's gaze lingers on the color as the princess asks another question. Distantly, the archer hums. "Yeah... sometimes there were incidents with bandits and thieves, but Firene was a land that enjoyed peace for centuries. The war hit our home fast and hard, and we weren't really prepared."
She brushes a strand of hair away from her face, "It IS unforgiving." The destruction of Florra Port sits at the front of her mind, "So many lives were lost. People that could have been saved... innocent people that didn't have to be put in danger at all."
Her brow furrows, "That senseless violence and chaos... no matter how much I train, I pray that I won't have to use my strength to fight in a war again."
The further she hears about Elyos, the more she finds herself intrigued; almost wishing she had the luxury to go there herself and feel that hot sand against her skin. "The Azure Coast..," she repeats. "It seems to me you have many fond memories there. I'm almost envious. Not even the sands here can compare to that, I'm sure." A chuckle sweeps past her lips in warmth.
As she listens to the life she leads, Edelgard finds her own tone shifting— Wrinkles atop her brow, arms crossing over her chest, pensive. "If the worst happened, hm.." For as much as she wants to look Etie in the eyes, she cannot bring herself to do so. Those words lay about many implications, all of which have her realizing just how much the other girl has been through from those sentences alone. "It's true you have to be prepared for anything, even if.. —" War rings in her ears and mind. "Even if we don't want it to. The days are not always so kind."
She squints. "It may not be ladylike, per-say, but I find that very honorable. You fight with a purpose. That conviction will lead you far. Those siblings you hold fondly— Keep them close. Both your own and those of your friends." If she wasn't able to do the same, Edelgard hopes those of her allies can have what she cannot.
"War even crept upon even Firene," she adds. A hand flicks away water droplets on her arm, shooing them back onto the ground as she peers towards the fallen seashell. Edelgard pauses in her stride and bends downwards to pick it up— Perfectly shaped and small, pink in color and glossy to the touch. "When that happened, I suspect it only increased your concerns..? War is unforgiving."

It's so funny to me that Dorothea's explicit reason to come to the Academy is to find a find husband and subsequently live a comfortable life and then she's there and then couldn't give a rat's ass about any of the guys.
To the girls she's all sweet and supportive and loving and sometimes gay. And to the guys... well she's not mean to all of them but she clearly doesn't see any of them as an option until the end of a support chain and doesn't enthuisastically go out of her way to aid them.
Girl is classmates with several wealthy heirs and supposedly looking for a husband and comfortable life, but would clearly rather, happily, spend her life eloping to Brigid or fistfighting Count Varley.

@hresvelged (continued from here!)
The night was going on much too long. Exhaustion and paranoia were creeping into the minds of the people assembled in the bunker, Alfonse included. He had let suspicions get the better of him for a moment, and now it was getting dangerously close to being a problem. He needed an out. He needed to defuse this as quickly as possible before it caused a stir. It wasn't just his usual secrets at stake now; if he started a fight, things in the bunker could turn sour very quickly, and their chances of reclaiming Garreg Mach along with it.
"It's really not important," Alfonse mumbled, taking a step backwards as Edelgard advanced towards him. His eyes searched the surrounding crowd once more, though this time not for an escape. There was little privacy in the crowded space, but if he could only find a place to pull Edelgard aside, he might explain this situation at least a little bit somewhere that wouldn't have anyone listening in at an inopportune moment.
"...I think we ought to step outside for this discussion, though," Alfonse added, finally meeting Edelgard's gaze. His own eyes were tired, unable to return the challenge Edelgard's glare was issuing. He had already seen far too much war for someone his age. "The fresh air would do us some good. And... Hubert can accompany us, if that would make you more comfortable."
She would probably be more likely to accompany him if she had Hubert there. Less chance of her worrying about Alfonse leading her into an ambush.

I wonder how does Edelgard manage to hide her 2nd Crest because lore-wise I theorize it had something to do with her dealings with the Slithers, while gameplay-wise the Crest of Flames activates by random instead of through Combat Arts like the Crest of Seiros...
If we account what happens in the gameplay to be integrated into the story then my god Edie for all your intelligence, you really suck at your covers... (which really doesn't surprise anyone but that's okay because let's be real, some of us would suck at balancing kinda-vigilante work to overthrow the continent into chaos while finishing your midterms /j)

In Fates, my #1 S-Support is the problematic white-haired bisexual (Niles).
In Three Houses, my #1 S-Support is the problematic white-haired bisexual (Edelgard).
In Engage, my #1 S-Support is the problematic white-haired bisexual (Rafal).
Hope that future Fire Emblems continue this trend, and keep letting me throw my heart at the feet of the gorgeous, morally-and-follicly grey discourse magnets ♡ (is follicly a word, who cares, it is now)

Ninip misses Etie 8/10HP with Counter. [Roll: 2 - 2 = 0; -0HP, Etie 8/10HP] Nergal hits Etie 8/10HP with Counter. [Roll: 9 - 2 = 7; -2.5HP, Etie 5.5/10HP]
Even as she fights off the golems, Etie keeps an eye on Edelgard. On the way she presses a hand to her chest, how her gauntlet tumbles to the floor when she wraps an arm about her head, bowling over with a sudden scream. Etie can only stare in a concerned sort of shock, mouth opening to ask—what's wrong? What can she do?
She didn't know what to ask. Nothing felt right or sufficient enough.
But the imperial princess steels herself once more, words of conviction pushing away Etie's doubts. The fight. Right. That was priority.
The piercing note that shakes and washes over the area is a very painful and acute reminder.
Chrysopoeia activates! Etie -4HP (Etie 1.5/10)
Once again, Etie squeezes her eyes shut and holds tight to her wolf, arms wrapped about its broad neck for balance. Sound and light begin to subside, and when she opens her eyes, the wall of golems is broken, and the enemy beyond has receded into a state of rest. No. Vulnerability.
Every muscle in her body burned, each limb as heavy as lead. But Etie wouldn't just lie down and quit. Not while she could still move.
She gives a slow, comforting pet to the wolf's cheek. "Hey. Sorry to push you like this. It's a problem of mine. A lot of people have told me how forceful I can be..." Breaths fall heavy with her laugh. "But. This is the last thing I'll ask, promise. Think you can rush in for one more attack...?"
The wolf rears its head back with a slow howl, and Etie smiles. "Thank you. Let's go!"
It starts off at a trot, weakened by the earlier attack, but the wolf gradually builds momentum with each passing second, eventually breaking into a solid sprint. The guards were too occupied with their formation to stop Etie's advance, and the moment they cut past the wall of golems, she gives a hard kick to the wolf's side, forcing it to a sudden stop.
Wolf jolts to a halt, and Etie flies off its back from the force, hand gripped tightly to her lance as she rolls and skids across the ground. But it brings her—just her—closer to the boss, and through force of will and adrenaline, she rolls back onto her feet, muscles forced past their limit as she pushes off into a run.
[TURN ONE] Etie 1.5/10 hits Prima Materia 25.5/50HP with Trident [Roll: 19; -2.5HP, Prima Materia 23/50HP]
Lance raised high, she rams it into the seraph's face, forked blade stabbing into metal and sending cracks spidering out from the impact point. With a yank of her arm, she tries to pull the weapon out, but it's stuck, and—
Time Was activates! Etie -3HP (Etie 0/10) Etie has been defeated.
Etie screams as light floods the arena again, unable to do anything as she takes the full brunt of its radiance. Her body is consumed in what feels like hellfire, and in the aftermath, Etie is left numbly lying on the ground.
Prima Materia 23/50HP uses Chrysopoeia. All debuffs & statuses are dispelled, and Prima Materia becomes invulnerable for seven turns.
Shield reforms, and the golems slowly return to their wall formation. She'd done something useful, she hopes. Bought time for everyone. Or got them all caught in that blast... Dragons, she hoped not.
"Hang in there..." The last thing Etie registers is the warm nestle of fur against her cheek, and a sad whimpering, as her consciousness accepts the call of sleep.
