Both Pandora Heart and Vanitas are absurdly real and unreal, like you can understand their situations or feelings but God it's so hard to imagine such a thing in real life, it also shows the diversity in living itself as well, that there isn't a perfect "perfection"

Pandora Heart played a huge part in shaping my perception on fictions and fed me so much feelings

Mochizuki took gothic horror fiction to another level! The story is so dark yet at the end, there's still that glimmer of light

Though I know well that Pandora Heart got callbacks in Vanitas in background details, Dominique gave me major Lacie flashback y'know, I kinda want a huge link between the two tales, like White Alice, having another form in there, in the end, she and Cheshire did say they'll be together again in another story, another world after all

Anyway I just want someone to talk about Vanitas and Pandora with if you don't mind! Decided to share a bit of my brainrot

You're so right about MochiJun's elevation of the genres she writes in. I also love how overturns expectations for those genres! She absolutely shaped the lens through which I view fiction too

There are definitely some things in VNC that point to it taking place within the same multiverse as Pandora Hearts, such as the dimension we see Francis and the Shapeless One in, and the way supernatural beings turn to "soul dust" (term I made up on the spot) when they die. I don't think Pandora Hearts characters will have any major appearances but I do think we'll see more of Pandora Hearts within VNC

I also can't help but see different pieces of Pandora Hearts characters in VNC characters—Domi having Lacie's looks and paralleling Break, Noé having a similar childhood as Lacie and major repression issues like Oz and Jack, and so on and so forth. There are so many MochiJun motifs I could list (and I do have a list) but that would be another thing in and of itself

I don't doubt. That's a bad way of thinking. I currently have a gay Steve college AU fic that I'm having trouble shaping so it's just been rotating in my brain microwave as random scenes for 2 weeks now, but we'll get there eventually.

Oh god. Okay. So, millenials you know that Numanuma song. So um. Yeah the band actually had a very small fandom. And yes there was RPS being written and I was one of about 10 people doing that. Yeeeeah. Fuck off, I was like 15 years old.

Ideas have been spinning around in my brain for awhile now and you can disregard all of this if you want but I have WAYYYY too many characters with excessively detailed backstories and your little character has been sparking ideas for me. So! I have lore ideas and here they are (these ideas may/may not overlap a little with my own stories but not enough that you can’t do what you want):

I was thinking your oc (the wispy one with the colors n stuff) came to be as a result of the remains of dead gods. Morbid, but it happened a little like a star forming from the dust of other stars. So over time all these remains out in the universe just started coming together and suddenly there’s a whole being! And obviously this being has no idea about anything. It kinda just… is. For a long while at that. It kinda just floats through space while sightseeing the galaxy.

It quickly learns it’s pretty much indestructible but at the same time getting caught in a star’s gravity hurts so not gonna do that again if it can avoid it. It also learns that it can do some pretty weird stuff (not that it knows it’s weird yet) like adjust certain things like light and energy. It can change shape at will too. It’s not all powerful and does need rest after some of these things but for a while it toys with things.

Eventually they fall to a planet. A planet with life. A planet with… other conscious beings apparently! (What we know is earth!) It’s curious but also nervous. So it watches. Mimics other life forms. Learns. It figures out how to read and write and talk both from osmosis and from seeing elders teach younger. This is not limited to humanity either. Anything from certain animals to insects and to an extent, plants!

Once they start feeling confident enough, they try blending in either human society. This… admittedly doesn’t go well. It is clear that they look too different to properly fit in and people tend to either stare or scream.

One thing leads to another and they accidentally get in trouble with what is essentially the supernatural police. After many, MANY long hours things get sorted out and they get brought to some higher tier gods to get informed about… well, everything. It is upon meeting the other gods that they realize, they don’t have a name. So they make one up on the spot. Four.

They end up trial and erroring a lot of things over time (under a lot of supervision) and find they have an inclination towards writing and reading. To discuss with other people and have fun. They also learn that they can suck the dye out of shit and annoy people with that fact. It is very fun and the dye tastes yummy so… (the ability is mostly because they’re made up of the remains of dead gods and that’s what large parts of the universe is made of. Thus, if they focus, they can adjust or even take in that energy for themself)

Once Four really starts understanding how society and stuff functions they try again to fit in with society. And it works! Sure, they have to give the excuse of “cosplay” when their disguise fails a little too hard but whatever. So sometimes they just go to the human realm to mess with people and hang out. For the most part tho, they hang around the heavenly realms and fantasy worlds and send out stories/fanfics using their phone no matter where they are.

(Have I written too much? Absolutely. I hope you enjoyed my oc brainrot tho. Because my brain has not shut up since I started drawing)

8 TV Shows to Get Know Me

Let's see...

1. Tiger & Bunny - current obsession (as in, nearly 2 years on now and still going strong), an amazing mixture of genres that hits the spot incredibly well for me, contains my utmost Blorbos Nathan and Keith and OTP FireSky, but pretty much every single character is absolutely fantastic and will at some point surprise you.

2. Yuri!!! On Ice - my favorite, my comfort watch, a watershed in my anime history, possibly the best soundtrack of any show I know, amazing characters, figure skating, and an actual plot twist?!? Amazing.

3. Star Trek: The Next Generation - I grew up with it and I think it shaped a lot of my views on morality, ethics and what it means to be human (Data, my beloved, my first Blorbo, decades before the word Blorbo was a thing 🥹).

5. The X-Files - You can't see this show at 13 and not receive some kind of brainrot, lol. Mostly it was related to madly shipping Mulder and Sully before I could even fully realize how freaking WILD they were being about each other; but there's also something to be said about spending your teenage years waiting for the reveal of THE TRUTH THAT WAS OUT THERE, only to then realize absolutely no one EVER had any idea where they were going with the mythology of the show in the first place.

5. Sailor Moon - You can't see Haruka Tenou at 13 and end up straight.

6. Supernatural - but for all that is holy, don't actually watch it. Just know that I did, all the way through, from when it first started airing in 2005 to when it ended (?) in absolute MADNESS in November 2020, and I received about 372639446827483 d10s of psychic damage from it.

7. Stargate Atlantis - Look at John Sheppard. Examine his amazing technicolor allergy to even the most minute and remote trace of emotional communication. Know that I had a MASSIVE crush on him. Realize why my long term relationship did not end well.

8. Anime Sanjushi - Okay, maybe three other people have ever even heard of this one (like, on Tumblr as a whole), but the way it made Dumas's novel so cool and easily palatable to little kid me, with a great mix of action and humor and nice feelings, and most of all giving me the absolute gift of that version of Aramis is just... Chef's kiss. Another deep childhood influence on me.

For this word it's a modern supernatural hyunjin cat shape shifter with his roommates werewolf felix and ghost jeongin greeting their new (human) roommate seungmin

"Hyunjin!"

Hyunjin opens one eye. His ears moving at the sound of his name being called but not wanting to move any other body parts. He has spent the morning sleeping peacefully in a very sunny spot in their garden and with fall beginning he knows he will not be able to do so for a few months.

"There you are," Felix says as he stands tall, in a respectable distance from Hyunjin.

Felix never really liked cats. Due to his special nature, he never gets close Hyunjin when he is turn into a cat.

"What?" He asks barely moving.

"Did you forget? Our new roommate is coming at any second and you're cat sunbathing."

There is no real bite in his words, he is barely really mad. But they did promise to Minho, who is giving his room to this new person, to make sure nothing weird happens. Which is funny and ironic because Minho has always been the one to play with the weird limit. But the latter would deny it if they were to tell him.

"Right, I totally did not forget, " he finally decides to lie while standing up and stretching his cat body making sure to wake up each and every muscle.

"Good, because I already had to convince Jeongin to make sure he stays hidden but he said he was curious about the new guy but..."

"There you are, Felix!" A voice says at the door of the garden.

Both of them freeze. When Hyunjin looks up he sees the young man Minho had introduced to them a few weeks ago. What is different from that day is that now he is wearing some sweatpants and casual hoodie, his hair is slightly dishevelled and he looks terrible cute. Hyunjin knows his cat ears perks up in joy. How could he have forgotten today was the day he was joining their household ? He is so stupid. And Seungmin is so stupidly cute.

"Oh! I didn't know we had a cat," Seungmin says cutely.

Hyunjin has always been a very tactile person, and the same as a cat, but when Seungmin squats down next to him and gently extends a hand to pet him, he dodges it. The surprise look on Seungmin's eyes makes him swoon.

"He does not like being touch?" Seungmin asks Felix.

Hyunjin almost answers for Felix but thankfully he remembers cat don't speak before he does something that definitely falls into the weird part.

"No he really is affectionate, he must be nervous," Felix smirks and Hyunjin sends him a glare.

The reality is that none of his roommate ever pet him considering, Felix is a werewolf and would rather die than touch a cat, Minho is too jealous of Hyunjin shapeshifting ability, and Jeongin.. well Jeongin could hardly touch anything. Plus maybe it was a bit weird. Well he had never overthink it. But now Seungmin, the very cute new roommate, the very new human cute roommate, wants to scratch his head without knowing it was actually a human being.

"So what's his name?"

Felix seems to think very hardly on it and Hyunjin knows he will come up with something. He meows adamantly. He barely meows because he is used to his roommates knowing he is a human first and always talks normally even as a cat. It sounds weird.

"Its not our cat," Felix ends up saying instead and Hyunjin ears move pleasantly, "he just comes here sometimes..."

"Oh okay."

Seungmin tries again to reach for Hyunjin's head and this time he can not do anything else but let him pet him. It does feel good. He ends up purring a bit and keeps his eyes half closed to not look at Felix's mocking face. It is enjoyable. He could definitely go for that again.

"Hyunjin's not home?" Seungmin asks.

Is Hyunjin insane to hear a bit of disappointment in his voice?

"I dont know where he went, he should come back any time soon."

Yeah! He would come back quicker if Felix could bring Seungmin inside and let him carefully go back to his room to turn into a human again. Instead of letting him pur happily while Seungmin scratches behind his neck. Fucking cat instinct. He sure will remember that whenever Felix needs help.

"Okay well I put most of my stuff in the kitchen, is it okay if you help me get them upstairs?"

"Sure, I just know Hyunjin will magically appear when he hears you need help."

Seungmin stops the petting and Hyunjin opens his eyes quickly enough to see a blush on his face. He wants to bites Felix leg.

"Really.." Seungmin laughs awkwardly, "then maybe you should go..."

He gets up and starts walking back to the inside.

"I hate you," Hyunjin whispers very quietly to Felix.

Like the traitor he is, Felix just winks and runs to follow Seungmin. Hyunjin wants to disappear.

DAILY BRAINROT

My brain has started associating daily brainrot with getting ready to do homework, so now you're officially a part of my getting ready to do homework routine.

Going to try out color-coding the different topics, because I have a lot of ideas and my ADHD is acting up. (I promise I took my meds, it's just One of Those Days.)

I started working on a oneshot that's basically "what if I dumped a bunch of magical, spooky cryptid stuff in here" in response to a prompt from a writing group meeting. I don't really have any plot for it, but I do have a bit of worldbuilding stuff and a very long description of a house.

So it's another Hyrule-centric story featuring fae!Hyrule, except they're all kind of fae/cryptids. Supernatural, I suppose, is a more accurate description. I don't really have a good idea of what everyone will be, but there's going to be shape-shifters and ghosts and lots of creepy vibes because I'm shooting for the unsettling feeling that you get when you're afraid that the red eyes you see in the cornfield belong to something much more horrifying than a barn cat.

I think the term I'm looking for is gothic Midwest horror. Here's a link to the aesthetics wiki's entry on the topic in case you're curious.

Changing topics, I have what is probably too many ideas in my "LU Fanfiction Ideas" file in my notes app, so I'm thinking that maybe, once I've gotten some of my WIPs cleaned up and posted I could try doing some kind of ask game or tag game with them sort of like the WIP ask game that's still sort of circulating. I'd just make a list of the ideas and either write onshots/minifics for asks or have one of the tagged people pick what I work on. I'm not sure yet, mostly because I don't know if people would be interested and which one they'd prefer because I'm a bit too shy to just... toss it out into the fandom tag like that.

Time is still fighting me. It's taking longer than expected because every time I feel like I'm making progress something gets in the way. I really want to get his piece done because it establishes his plotline in the Emotional Support Loftwing series, and is supposed to be the accompaniment to a second piece that's probably from Warriors' point of view.

As a side note to that, I'm very excited to actually get around to that accompaniment because I get to write a whole bit about Sky's house on the Surface. (The town is called New Town and I love it.)

Omg what parallels did you come up with for Buffy and Sunny (serious ones or not so serious lol)

They both initiated the growth of strange fungus on my brain and were able to instill the elusive brainrot within me.

Town named Sunnydale, show named Always Sunny, never actually all that sunny metaphorically speaking for those involved, jk, jk.

But yeah, the parallels are less *concrete*/plot related or anything-- though I'm sure I could find something in that respect if I were to try--and more just in terms of the effects both shows were able to have on me in a way nothing else has, and how unexpected those effects were. Because for about 8 years now, while other interests have come and gone despite me thinking "oh this is gonna be the one" before they fizzled out again, Buffy has consistently been the only thing that's really stuck with me, and I thought I'd never feel that way about anything else again... until Sunny came along.

(Advanced apologies for you here, this will not be concise or coherent)

And no one was more surprised than me at the outcome of both of these things, because I remember when I first started Buffy, the opening episodes aren't the strongest, and I kind of turned to my sister with a skeptical look like *bitch, you live like this.jpeg* "You watched all 7 seasons of this?" I mean, the mantis alone, hello? But now, this show is imprinted on my very being. You'd be hard pressed to have a conversation with me and not hear about Buffy at least once. And Sunny... my God, Sunny, I came into it expecting the worst of the worst, I told myself I was just gonna watch one (1) episode just to see how bad it is, and at first it really almost is a "so bad you can't look away" situation in a way, but then suddenly, suddenly it clicks and you go, no, no, this is... incredibly well made, and just as suddenly, it was infiltrating my conversations, my rambles, my every thought, just as strongly as Buffy ever had, and soon Buffy was sharing the override codes to rewiring my brain with a new contender, the one no one bet on.

And I think a lot of this effect crucially comes down to the innate way each show is able to balance the humour and the ridiculousness of their situations with the reality and distinct humanity of their characters, especially in the incorporation of little, at times almost mundane, details as well as the subversion of tropes you wouldn't usually expect within their respective genres that make everything else hit 1000x harder than their contemporaries. Blanking on all specific examples, but you know!

I mean, Buffy has a reputation as this cheesy, bad cgi, kind of silly supernatural monster of the week 90s teen show, and it is! It very much is! That's part of its appeal. It's fun, it's bizarre, but it's also razor sharp, layered in metaphors about growing up, about grief, about love and fear and life and death and sacrifice, both big and small, and it doesn't compromise one aspect for the other, they play off of and elevate each other to maximum effect. But even amidst all that, most importantly, at the heart of the show is the Scooby Gang themselves, (hey, they're both called the gang, I've connected the dots, am I right, fellas?), and how all these things have come to shape them and how they have come to shape each other, while also kind of being stuck in their own bubble where no one else can understand what they've been through. And the thing that really sets it apart is we get to see the potential of everything that was and could have been, we get to see the glimpses of their normal lives, or what their lives once were. We get to see what they lost, we get to see them lose, or at least feel it in the narrative, and we get to see bits of ourselves in them and how that informs their choices. We get to see a scared young girl who still keeps a little stuffed animal in her room, goes to the mall and just wants to be a cheerleader and go to prom, have a date with a nice boy, laugh with her friends and survive highschool in a non-supernatural sense, but whose predestined assigned role was always going to thrust her against her will into a horror show where she is forced to become something else. We get to see these little points of familiarity, and only then... do we get to see them all torn down.

I know there's some quote from Whedon floating around out there that goes something like, "If you don't have the small, the big doesn't matter." And he's right. It's these silly seeming little moments of reality amongst the chaos that make us care.

Because, yes, Whedon may be horrendous as a person and at times horrendous at continuity and follow through and whatever, but I think one thing he did understand was psychology and how to hit the audience where it hurts, especially utilizing humour in such a way it could either make you bust a gut, or it could gut you, and this is all in a way that doesn't necessarily translate as well to other projects he's been involved with like say, the MCU, where they had the big events, made the quips, but they didn't do the work of character development or the little moments before the events to make them anything more than hollow.

And I think RCG really understand this, too. Though, while Buffy is primarily a tragedy with elements of comedy, Sunny is obviously more a comedy with elements of tragedy. So Buffy gives us the moments of light in the darkness that have the ability to destroy you, and Sunny often gives us these moments of darkness in the light that have that very same ability if you start to think too much. The lines are very blurred genre wise in both cases actually.

Because Sunny, in its corner, meanwhile has a reputation as the haha funny terrible person meme who pooped the bed show, you know. And it is, too! There's nothing wrong with that! It's silly, it's out there, it's meant to be fun. But it's also biting satire with a knack for sitcom trope subversion like no other, and it's also genuinely the most intense and psychologically fascinating character study I have ever seen. They put so much thought into why these people are the way they are, why they do what they do, they throw in all these little details that seem innocuous or random but almost always turn out to mean so much more to the characters and their decisions as a whole. Unlike Buffy, we don't necessarily see on screen most of the events that have changed them in their formative years, but we see the lingering/haunting effect they carry into the present, trapping them in that same kind of bubble of their own, and it works just the same, if not better because being older and have more background behind them to build off of. Anyway, we see these terrible, egotistical, ridiculous people messing up the lives of others and themselves, but then they pull out the rug and we see a glimpse of these damaged kids who just wanted love from their parents, who grew up in circumstances that meant they almost never could have turned out any other way... could they? This whole thing of fate and circumstance and the traumas that shape us, and metaphors in monsters and in cats in walls and--

Uh where was I?

Shows that are funny, that are comforting, but on some level profoundly sad and more than meets the eye!

I think the main parallel between them is just how innocuous they seem to the casual outside observer. How none of this means anything if not seen firsthand, or how this looks like Charlie with the Pepe Silvia board, especially when I'm trying to tell the group chat that the Preying Mantis Sex Dungeon and the Magnum Condom for Danny Devito's monster dong shows are unrivaled feats of television writing and psychological prowess. Also how they're able to toe the line/bend their perceived genres in unexpected ways.

Also, Buffy is the show for growing up a loser and Sunny is the show for being grown up and still a loser (me-core).

And uuh, let's see *scrambling* people who associate with the Scooby Gang or the gang, both cases, they're probably gotta get their lives ruined/or end up dying. That's not my real parallel though.

I would be so interested in trying to find real, legit parallels in both shows though, because I'm 100% sure they exist. I saw someone say how Mac was Spike coded and yeah, I could totally see it. Dennis could be in a way, too, but Mac and Spike did both make sex dolls of the objects of their affection and let me tell you Mac + the lyrics to Spike's Rest in Peace, yeah. Anyway, been wanting to do a Buffy rewatch for ages, and Sunny is still at a good heightened stage of fixation for a rewatch as well. I know when I was initially drawing all my parallels, though, I had something better than this incoherent ramble because I was reading this mediocre book of Buffy essays at the time but there was one describing something about it where I was just like, whoa, that's just like Sunny 100% that's what's making me tick in both shows, and now I can't for the life of me find what it was, but a good disclaimer for that line of inquiry is I think this was the week I also had covid, can't recall.

i saw @/heroofpenamstan doing this and i’ve been missing og kendis/brainrotting twc so. i might do this for my other ocs (probably twc and infamous. maybe fhr) later. but we shall see!!

🥀 [WILTED ROSE] How good is your OC at meeting deadlines? What motivates them? 

Extremely good. I’ve said it often that Kendis main (sole, jkjk ... or am I) is stubbornness -- but I don’t think I can fully express how much so. It isn’t even the whole ‘if you looked up the word, you’d find her picture’. If stubbornness had an avatar, it would be Kendis. That is her motivation -- and often supplemented by passion and spite (oh hey, her other personality trait). Dogged and drive is Kendis Crawforod-Louel to a T (to their own deteriment at times ...)

🌹 [ROSE] Does your OC believe in true love? Why? 

No. Yes. Not in the traditional soulmate/star-crossed lovers sense. And not in the there can only be one sense. I don’t know how to explain it --like they don’t. BUT they believe you can be soo truly, ardently, unrepentantly devoted to someone(s). That you can love someone(s) with your whole heart that can shift/shape you. And it doesn’t have to solely be romantic. 

It’s kind of hard not to with their parents -- whether you mean og Kendis’ parents that are cute as fuck and still sweet on each other years later (even if they sometimes have sex with other people). Or Rebecca for as hurtful as she is one cannot deny she broke irreparably after Rookt tied. Or even her parents in kotsam, where Isabella is a great mom, who has a full life, but there feels like sometimes there is a ghost lurking behind her.

How can one not? Also OG Kendis and TWC Kendis has Austyn in their background and that’s .... yeah. And EXILE Kendis had Syfyn. And yeah. 

🍄 [MUSHROOM] How likely is your OC to eat random berries/mushrooms they find? 

Unlikely. LMAO. If they’re doing so, it isn’t random, it’s because they know what they’re doing. Most, if not all, versions of Kendis are wilderness trained. 

🍂 [AUTUMN LEAVES] Does your OC view piles of dead leaves as a mess or as fun? 

Are they a joke to you? Fun!

🌻 [SUNFLOWER] Where would your OC get lost in the moment/beauty of the place? 

Forest/woods. There are many places -- because Kendis is like a bear (hehe) in that whole gonna stop and take it in when I’m wowed by something lovely, but that’s usually the most likely. 

🌾 [RICE SHEAF] How picky is your OC with food? What will and won't they eat? 

Probably not at all??? Kendis is my foodie. They’d try anything at least once. 

☘️ [SHAMROCK] How passionate is your OC about things they love/hate? 

qqwertewq3456 ROFLMAO. Anyway. SEE FIRST RESPONSE. I’d say they’re pretty dang passionate.

Probably not hours but they would definitely spend some time. A couple maybe.

Harass the animals -- I mean pet and feed them. 

🍃 [FALLEN LEAF] What's the darkest period of time your OC has been through?

For most Kendis’ it is losing Austyn. For exile Kendis probably losing Syfyn, Tristan, and their family. And maybe that whole purge on the magic folk situation. 

🌵 [CACTUS] How physically resilient is your OC? 

Highly. Minus the fact that they’re fairly in shape, and most Kendis’ are of of the supernatural variety so pain and endurance process is different than a human, cue the fact that they’re spitefully stubborn. Kendis would put with a lot for what they wanted and then minimize/brush off the aftermath.

🌸 [CHERRY BLOSSOM] Does your OC believe in legends/myths? 

Kendis is a skeptical optimist. Not quite the Scully. She’ll believe if she sees it. Or she’s done enough research on it to satisfy herself. But experience (sometimes) guides her. So, a Kendis living with myths and legends would be open to considering new ones. 

🌷 [TULIP] What is your OC's favourite flower and colour?

I don’t know they have a favorite FLOWER (I need to ponder) -- but their tend to like pothos plants. Favorite color(s) are fandango pink, shades of purple, gold, and red. There are probably others but off the top of my head ...

WIP: Untitled Being Human AU (Buddie)

Just a smattering of words from a recent brainrot I've been teasing. It's not ready to post anywhere, but I figured I could offer it here for those that might be interested.

So enjoy werewolf!Eddie immediately post change. He'd been trapped in a large cage with Buck on the full moon.

The only positive thing that Eddie can say about the wolf is that, after the transformation, he feels like he’s in the best shape of his life. The wolf can sleep anywhere: dirt, concrete, probably a couch if it didn’t destroy it in rage. This is why, when he teases an eye open and is greeted with a concrete slab, he’s not surprised. 

He’s curled in a crescent, arms and tucked against him and knees pulled tightly to his chest. His slowly waking mind hasn’t had time to process the nakedness yet. All he can feel is the bliss that comes from a fantastic night’s sleep.

He rakes his still sharp vision over the cage. Blood. A body. His clothes in a pile in the far corner. Memories build in his mind like a time-lapse: The cage fight. Eva. Christopher…

Buck.

He jolts at the thought, cheek scraping against the rough concrete. The wolf is still burrowing back into its cage though, and he can feel the itchy tickle of supernatural healing knitting the small scrape back into pristine flesh. 

Fingers work their way through his hair, and he hears Buck whisper a soft “Shhh… you’re okay.”

“Buck?” The word is quiet and rough. His vocal cords always take a hit during the change. The wolf is chatty. 

“I’m here. You’re okay.” Buck continues to thread his fingers lightly, nails gently scraping against his scalp. 

Eddie allows himself to enjoy some of the wolf’s gifts. He pulls the smell from the air. Buck is all around him, sweat and concern and terror. He can hear the brash thumping of the man’s heart hesitantly slowing down to normal. He doesn’t understand. He’s always assumed that the wolf would never show mercy. The wolf that marked him certainly didn’t. 

None of that matters though. Three things do, in order of importance. First… Buck’s alive, and he’s not about to question how that happened. Second, this soon after the change, he can positively taste Buck’s interest. It’s a thought that excites him, were it not for the third thing, that being that his clothes are all the way on the other side of the cage.

Habits develop subconsciously, some with the intent for them to happen, others that are formed because of the important people in your life. It's a never-ending cycle that you usually come to enjoy. It's all present when P's opening the door to their apartment and letting you in, moving towards the kitchen and taking 'your' mug off the cupboard shelf.

Technically, it isn't 'yours' as such. Your name isn't on it, you didn't buy it either, but it's a piece of you that's in P's apartment, something you both silently agree on because it's the mug you use every time you go there.

It's routine. P makes your favourite drink, may add the special touch of magic into the atmosphere, and then pours the drink into the mug whilst the two of you chat about what comes to mind.

"So, are you going?" P asks, taking the spot across from you as they slide your drink over the counter, it expertly glides into your hands.

"I don't know."

"Terrible answer," P chuckles whilst taking a sip of their own drink. "Missing your own graduation is criminal."

You refrain from rolling your eyes. You know graduation is just around the corner, you've known the date for weeks, you've just put it to the back of your mind but now it's at the forefront... considering there are only two days until you're supposed to be throwing a cap in the air. Though, you have a feeling that the supernatural world has other ideas... it definitely does.

"Then it's a perfectly good crime to commit," you counter back as you bring the mug to your lips.

P shakes their head, freshly dyed-blonde wisps of hair fall into their face before they push them away. "I disagree, I bought a ticket to go."

"I'll reimburse you."

"I picked out a nice outfit," P shoots back.

Your eyes lock with theirs. This is a debate you have to win and backing down isn't an option. "Save it for a special occasion." Then you blink. "Or a special someone."

The quick-fire comments stop for a moment; you watch as P's heart-shaped lips part, as though they're readying themselves to say something but are reconsidering how to word it.

P clears their throat. "You're really not up for going?"

Your head shakes a little as you gulp down half of your drink. "I just don't think it's the time for a celebration when the supernatural world is in a whole load of disarray. I just keep thinking what's going to happen next."

"I don't think any amount of worry could prepare us for what happens next." They drop their empty cup in the sink, reach over to take your own and do the same before turning back to you. "Instead of a grand celebration, then, how about something smaller?"

You arch a brow. "You're not going to let this go are you?"

P chuckles. "That's completely up to you considering I'm about to ask you out on a date." The last of their words fall from their mouth with a slight falter, as though they're scared of putting themselves out there, scared of the answer you're going to give.

This isn't totally unexpected. The others have teased you two about it for ages now, it's just that neither of you have acted on it... until now.

You feel a smile curl over your mouth. "I suppose I wouldn't want a nice outfit of yours going to waste." You've completely disregarded how close the two of you are until now. You're no longer behind the kitchen island, but standing at the edge of it with P less than a metre away.

"How generous of you," they chuckle lightly, eyes darting over facial features, then their gaze rests on your lips for a lingering moment... one that's all too long before they speak again. "Any preference on where you'd like to go?"

You shrug your shoulders playfully. "I'll leave it up to you. I expect to be surprised."

"Looks like I have my work cut out."

You laugh. "I think whatever you pick will be perfect."

It started with a habit. Then a special occasion cropped up with the opportunity to take a special person. It ended with a habit too. The habit of P liking you.

A type of shadow demon. As a whole, a Kage can be damaged by life-draining powers, psychic powers, and it can be weakened by light. The Kage is capable of splitting itself into multiples and while it is split, it cannot take or deal damage. They target a specific person and do not stop pursuing them until they are gone.

Jackalopes / Fuck-Off Rabbits: starting off bunnies with tiny antlers, Jackalopes can grow to terrifying size when threatened, transforming into the aptly named Fuck-Off Rabbit.

Shapeshifters: Non-human beings that can change their shape and appeance. One of them is suspected of kidnapping Arke's daughter, Audrey.
