I had to make hot coco with water because we don't have any milk
And my mom also made cookies
And so I automatically dipped the cookies I the hot coo and went "I just dipped this cookie into chocolate water"
So....anyone else ever think about how hot coco is just hot chocolate water?

You know, I kind of feel like wider fandom trends (tho not only fandom; this is very very present in mainstream media and has bothered me for a long time) has pushed this… preoccupation with oddly strict older&younger sibling dynamics, wherein the older takes care of the younger, and the younger exists as a vessel for the older’s suffering and sacrifice
There’s this weird dynamic of debt, actually? Like, poor put upon Eldest Daughter Syndrome Character #1,348 has done so much for the younger one(s) they should be grateful. And if that younger sibling character is not appropriately Grateful, they are a horrible annoying brat that our sainted eldest must suffer through
In fact, the only way in general to make up for the sin of being the Younger Sibling (implied to be an inherent burden to our theoretical blorbo eldest) is to either be uwu soft and grateful, and/or Step-Up and Take On responsibility for the eldest and provide some comfort to this hurt
It’s all very *waves hand to gesture in Crazy-ex Girlfriend musical number*:
“After everything I’ve done for you-“ “-that I didn’t ask for!”
That younger sibling character is still a character, you know? Not a prop to make the eldest look good or put-upon.

Can I tell y'all a secret? When SPN came out I was so excited for it as a 14 year old girl into Horror and Cute Guys™ and CW Shows lol and I watched the first few episodes and was instantly obsessed. So obsessed I went to my aunt's house and this is all I could talk about. And she got a little interested. And let me watch my show. And she was shocked AF because JENSEN ACKLES was once one of her ENGLISH STUDENTS at BERKNER HIGH. She was his teacher and I was so enthralled by every detail she could remember about him to tell me, which really just amounted to- he was a good student but he liked to play poker with his friends in the back of the class. LOL he WAS Dean Winchester. And from that day on I loved SPN even more and Jensen Ackles was my favorite guy for years. I once sent in fan mail to his PO Box and got a signed headshot back which I framed and put on my desk where I did all my homework 😂 I even rented his indie movie Ten Inch Heroes at BLOCKBUSTER when that was still a thing and I had to embarrass myself by asking the teenage dude at the counter where I could find it and he thought I was asking for PRON 😂 okay, that is all. Have a nice day.

Now that we know that Mina loves history and local myths and legends and spooky stories, I remembered something from Jonathan's very first entry (May 3):
I shall enter here some of my notes, as they may refresh my memory when I talk over my travels with Mina...
He follows this by talking about what he's learned so far about the four main nationalities and geography of Transylvania, that he read that "every known superstition" is gathered into the horseshoe of the Carpathians, and notes: (Mem., I must ask the Count all about them.)
Mina meanwhile writes in her first letter that her own journal will be
a sort of journal which I can write in whenever I feel inclined. I do not suppose there will be much of interest to other people; but it is not intended for them. I may show it to Jonathan some day if there is in it anything worth sharing, but it is really an exercise book. I shall try to do what I see lady journalists do: interviewing and writing descriptions and trying to remember conversations.
So they both start their respective journals for different reasons. Mina starts her journaling because she wants 1. to hone new skills 2. to practice her shorthand 3. to do so to become a good secretary for Jonathan. She claims it's To Be Of Service to her future husband and she's totally not enthusiastic to also indulge in it as a hobby. So the goal behind it is practicality and work and duty. Jonathan's journal though has nothing to do with work or with learning new skills. He began writing it because he wanted to use it to share his travel and everything he learned during it with Mina when he'd return home. Mina notes she might show it to Jonathan someday if there'll be anything noteworthy, but it's not her priority.
But both of them begin journaling with their minds focused on their partner: Mina wants her cultivated skills from this "exercise book" to become helpful to Jonathan, and Jonathan wants to share the experiences, recipes, facts, and supernatural tales he's gathered with Mina, who (as she's told Lucy) dreams of traveling someday.

so apparently I misread the line where Book!Jim said he thought Steve was hot while Steve was dying
THIS IS THE ACTUAL QUOTE
"His blond hair self scalped as a reptilian ridge asserted itself through his skull, and then his face, the lure that had hooked many a lovelorn high school girl, ripped down the center, splitting his forehead to reveal a bone-studded faceplate that spat out both eyeballs in favor of silver orbs that glimmered with coal-hot fury.
BUT REST ASSURED HE WAS FUCKING INTO STEVE
CH 2 ~pg44 "He was handsome in the oddest way. His eyes were too small and his nose piggish; he had a ridiculous amount of hair and a couple of teeth that looked like fangs. Yet somehow in combination these features were sort of mesmerizing. His unnatural muscular bulk and odd way of speaking—crisply, politely, as if he were a foreign student who had learned English in a class—completed the strange package. There was nobody else like Steve"
((yes you bet your ass im going to draw this fucking steve he sounds WONDERFUL)) CH 15 ~pg193 "There at the nearest corner was a helmetless Steve Jorgensen-Warner running drills. Just drills, and yet he executed them with supernatural grace, vaulting over lesser humans and grinning like he’d just as soon keep going until he conquered the world. Claire was rapt and I couldn’t blame her. That sort of movement was a kind of poetry, too.
“Oh, blessed, blessed night,” I whispered from a script I hadn’t realized that I’d memorized, too. “Because it’s dark out, I’m afraid all this is just a dream.”
Was it, in fact, a dream?"
Book Steve looked like a creep and Jim was like "Yeah he has fangs that's all i need to know" BECAUSE THE AMOUNT OF TIMES JIM MENTIONS HIS SMILE
LITERALLY ALL OF THEIR INTERACTIONS WOULD BE MAKING THE FUCKING FANDOM SCREAMING BECAUSE STEVE JUST AIRS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF UNCANNY VALLEY

Oshi No Ko Episode 23 Review - Reunited, But Not Like This!
The finale of Season 2 will be aired on Sunday, October 6 instead of its usual Wednesday time slot. I think it’s because of the influx of Fall anime airings that one premiere probably took its time slot. Anyways, just a heads up on this just in case if you’re gonna wonder why the finale review is gonna be late next week.
Tumblr media
Aqua brings Akane to Miyazaki for the company R&R and Kana is not thrilled about it. To be honest, if this was going to be an R&R for Tokyo Blade in addition to the MV shooting, shouldn’t they bring some other characters too like Melt or Himekawa? It feels weird that Akane doesn’t have other schedules given that she should be busy as the rising star of Lala-lai… Man, this episode is just gut-punching Kana because Ruby was like “Will you two get married?” towards Akane, causing Kana to be even more upset. Also, I’m surprised that Aqua is that comfortable around that many girls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guess it was nice seeing the Aqua and Akane moments, but I do think that Kana would probably be end game in the sense that Kana gives Aqua the least amount of mommy issues. There are way too many parallels with Akane and Ai in the sense that she’s essentially mimicking Ai—her hair is even parted towards the left despite it being parted towards the right during her debut. If there are incest shippers out there, Ruby looks identical to Ai, so it probably wouldn’t be best to have her as end game either. Kana has the least amount of Ai parallels, which is probably the best choice for him in the long run, but this is just coming from someone who has to pick a girl for Aqua. For all I know, I wouldn’t even mind if Akane and Kana were to get together. Though, I do feel bad for Aqua as all the step forward he had with Kana now took three steps back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Goro and Sarina flashbacks were very bittersweet. People probably thought of Goro as creepy idol fan in the beginning of the story, but if you look at the flashbacks and Goro’s backstory from Aqua’s words in this episode, you can sort of tell that he’s a toxic people-pleaser; he’s got a lot of depth. His biological mother died due to childbirth, but he decided to become a OBGYN doctor because of guilt and what his grandmother would want and not what he truly wants—to be a surgeon. Because he couldn’t cure Sarina, he’d make empty promises like promising to marry her when she turned 16 just to please her. He even became an Ai fan because Sarina wished she could’ve gone to a B-Komachi concert. Everything he does is for others and never himself…and that mindset got implanted onto Aqua. It’s really sad that Goro is a person living with inner guilt to the point that he self-sabotages himself all the time. He’s always putting others before himself to the point of being a toxic trait. No wonder Aqua is very complicated. He has Goro’s mindset, but also has the limits of what a teenager can do. In a sense, it feels Aqua and Goro are different people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ll tell you my biggest issue with Ruby: she still thinks she’s Sarina and not a completely different person. Like, Aqua is written in a way that you can tell that there is a difference between him and Goro as it does feel as if Aqua has an ego of his own, but I never really get that with Ruby. She goes around imagining that Goro will attend a B-Komachi concert and find her. Not once does she ever realize that Ruby and Sarina are two entirely different people and that Goro could not comprehend supernatural phenomena like reincarnation if he had been alive in the present as he is a man of science. I mean, I get that her past self was twelve years old, but that’s old enough to comprehend and develop an ego. I don’t know. I guess it’s probably because Ruby isn’t really included into the story as much, but that’s what I’m getting from observing her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two new characters are introduced. We got Anemone, Mem-cho’s acquaintance who is a music video producer. It’s interesting how flashy she is despite living in the countryside. Her voice actress is Yukana, who you might know from various media like Code Geass as C.C. and Tales of the Abyss as Tear Grants. Then, there’s the mysterious white haired girl. I’m gonna call her Crow Girl for now. She sounds like she’s voiced by Hina Kino, who voiced Miri from Buddy Daddies and Lishu from The Apothecary Diaries. Given her parallels with the crows and how she led Ruby to Goro’s corpse, does she have something to with the the reincarnation? Just what is she?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel really bad for Ruby. All of her fantasies about meeting Goro in her new life got instantly shattered. I really liked the effect of the star on her left eye diminishing, showing that it could disappear if met with an extremely traumatic effect… Don’t tell me… is Ruby gonna get those dark stars like Aqua? Is she going to seek revenge against her supposedly-dead-to-Aqua father? What’s going to happen?

Rules For Requesting
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE REQUESTING. The first one is obvious, but I feel it has to be said. If a character is underage, I will not write smut for them, and it will be x reader that is also underage. I also only write for x reader, I'm sorry, but I don't do canon couple pairs (for example, destiel), they are just difficult for me to write. I only write for female or gender neutral reader, and I only write female characters(wuh luh wuh). Now that's out of the way, here's a small list of what I WON'T write for, pretty much anything else goes, but please remember I'm a human being, and I have boundaries, so if I feel uncomfortable with your request, I have the right to deny it. I prefer to write images over headcanons. However, I'm not against them, but expect an image unless otherwise specified.
WON'T WRITE
Rape/Non-con
x male reader
Underage character x adult reader (or vise versa) (if it's platonic, that's ok, but not romantic)
Glorified abuse (if it's a fic about the characters helping you through abuse or supporting you, that's ok! But romanticizing it, no.)
If you aren't sure, please ask! I won't get upset if it's something I don't want to write, I'll just let you know and offer alternatives!
Masterlist
Coming soon! (As soon as I start to get requests and start writing!)
Thank y'all! Much Love,
Nex

Oshi No Ko and Perfect Blue
Oshi No Ko (2023) and Perfect Blue (1998) are two Japanese anime that critiques and exposes the dirty business of the entertainment industry, especially idol culture. Although Oshi No Ko takes on a supernatural element to it and Perfect Blue is a horrifying psychological thriller, both anime have captured the depravity of the crooked and shameless minds involved in the industry.
MILD SPOILERS AHEAD (Oshi No Ko anime series and Perfect Blue anime film)
Tumblr media
Oshi No Ko is a (somewhat) recent anime series starring Japanese idol, Ai Hoshino who was killed in the very first episode. She was murdered by her fan as she gave birth to a child despite promising her audience that she loves them in her songs. This disturbing incident is unfortunately based on true events in the Japanese entertainment industry. Many idols are treated wrongly, which is often covered up by their agencies or the media to have a clean outside.
Japanese idols (or アイドル, pronounced aidoru) are young entertainers of Japanese pop culture, both male and female, who, as a group perform on-stage. Their entertainment mainly composes of producing their own music and singing and dancing to it. They are adored by their fans and very often, despite their young age, sexualized.
This is sometimes considered normal and the adults of this mindset of adoring and sexualizing young female idols are called lolicons (lolita+complex). Anime itself sexualises underage characters and dehumanises them by saying "it's just animation" (but we'll save this conversation for later). This complex is still prevalent in the idol industry. The extremity of the audience's lolicon mindset is visible in both Oshi No Ko and Perfect Blue (Perfect Blue more than Oshi No Ko). In Oshi No Ko, Ai Hoshino is stalked and murdered by her fan for giving birth to children despite promising her audience that she loves them in her songs.
Idols work under a contract for an agency. This agency is in charge of the idol group and could also be in charge of other entertainers. The more underground agencies scout for idols in the street by approaching every conventionally beautiful girl they encounter. This tactic is practiced in Japan till date. This was seen in Oshi no Ko when Ai Hoshino was approached by Ichigo Saitou from Ichigo Productions. And during the conversation between Ai and Ichigo, we get to know how the entertainment industry is made out of lies and that it is normalised.
These anime bring forth the many realities of the entertainment industry, not only idol culture. There are so many social issues that one can find in both Oshi no Ko and Perfect Blue. For example in Oshi No Ko, Kana Arima, the prodigious child actor, grows up to be forgotten by the public. She tries different jobs in the entertainment industry but nothing works well. She becomes desperate for acting gigs and other jobs that will get her the recognition she seeks. Mem-Cho (stage name) is a 27 year old YouTuber who hides her age so she'll still be accepted in the entertainment industry. Idol agencies usually do not hire girls above 20 (they like them young… a disgusting mindset, really), therefore many 20+ year old idols quit that field and move to a different entertainment field, usually acting, like seen in Perfect Blue with Mima, the protagonist. So, 27 year old Mem-Cho finds it difficult to pursue the dream of becoming an idol. In fact, it is difficult to be a 27 year old YouTuber (like I said, they like them young).
Tumblr media
Perfect Blue is the right film to watch if one wants to experience the mental torment that any person used by the entertainment industry as an object to showcase. Mima, a former idol who gets into acting, receives threatening messages, letters from her stalkers and her fans who are obsessed with the idol ideal. She endures a feeling of dissociation as her reality warps and her memory crumbles. The director, Satoshi Kon, gives the viewer the same dystopian feeling that Mima goes through. My words will not do justice to the film. If you are fine with having an existential crisis as though you are in Mima's place throughout the duration of the film, do watch the film. I highly recommend it!
Both anime have a lot in common except Oshi No Ko leans more towards fantasy and Perfect Blue towards dystopia. None the less, both anime portray the Japanese entertainment industry accurately. I recommend both anime (not that I am some sort of expert). Thank you for reading!

Temporarily resubscribed to Mangaplus to do a little bingereading. Mannnn, Oshi no Ko is truly something. Now on chapter 83 and I love how it manages to be a supernatural murder mystery and a showbiz drama. Kana's arc as a former kid actor dealing with no longer being the genius is my fave.
Although Mem is my fave character overall. Like, yeah, she's the funny mentor character, but you also can't help but root for her to finally pursue her dreams.
I'll get around to watching the show someday. Heard the soundtrack is supposed to be amazing.

How long did Dib get to live? How did he die? What did Zim do with the rest of his life besides watching Dib’s children grow? What odd jobs did he take to pass the time? Is he still in touch with Gir?
Whatever happened to Sizz-lor?
Dib lives an abnormally long lifetime because of the human compatible PAK he, Zim and Dipper designed. Not a long life by Irken standards, but a very long one by human standards. His death was brought on by old age, dementia and damage from many decades of smoking cigarettes (he attempted to quit several times, but it never stuck).
Tumblr media
His career as a super scientist was successful even if it wasn't his passion. Dib continued to study the paranormal on earth as well as join Zim on several space adventures before his final hour.
Dib was never able to convince his "legitimate/ real science" colleagues that the paranormal and supernatural are legitimate fields of study, but he was respected among the younger generations of paranormal investigators/ enthusiasts.
Dib never opened an official school for paranormal studies, but with Dipper's help/ support they converted the Mystery Shack into a lecture hall on paranormal studies.
As for Zim, he also kept very busy. He never officially joined the resisty, but provided aid whenever he could. He smuggled lots of snacks, weapons/ tech and provisions for the resisty.
He spent a great deal of time and effort illegally downgrading PAKs for Irkens seeking to leave the empire as well as collecting "forbidden" data from set PAKs for future resistance efforts.
He helped construct a power grid for Mem's hive. He helped Gir open a speak easy cantina in Mem's hive as well. He upgraded Mini Moose and gave him to the resisty to build up their defenses. [Mini Moose was cool with this, as he was originally built from Vortian tech.]
Zim explored space for many years, hiding from the gaze of the control brains; stealing ships, tech and weapins. He also sold a great deal of set stolen tech.
He started a band, let the fame go to his head, got kicked out of the band. He enjoyed the company of a rotating list of lovers. He perfected his casserole recipe. Yeah. Zim lived life for sure.
Tumblr media
Sizz-Lorr took Gir on as his apprentice and helped him become a Frylord in his own right. Sizz-Lorr has always been very vocal about service drone rights and the importance of stable snacking systems; which put him on this ice with the control brains for decades; part of the reason why Shloogor's is understaffed so often.
Tallest Purple/ the red brain does eventually agree to send Sizz-Lorr more help. When the control brains complete their big upgrade, however, many of the improvements Sizz-Lorr and the other frylords demand are denied. Investigations against him suggest Sizz-Lorr has been low key assisting the resisty and conquered labor forces for decades. Sizz-Lorr is put under strict observation and is eventually accused of conspiring against the empire and is imprisoned.
Gir is devastated by this, radicalizing him even more than he originally was...
So much I'm glossing over here. Wish I had time to go into depth, but this post could potentially be a novel long if I keep rambling.

Had a flash of insight about Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, which despicably now must forever be qualified as Soul Hackers 1, today. Namely: Nemissa is Hitomi's online persona, symbolically and more than a little literally.
Nemissa talks as if she's been in Hitomi for much longer than the... maybe single day she's been in Hitomi for by the time the clothes shopping event happens. She's "always" hated Hitomi's wardrobe for being too drab. She talks to the other Spookies extremely familiarly. Nobody else can tell that Nemissa looks extremely different from Hitomi, bar perhaps her hair color changing. Nemissa's magic spells are determined by what the player thinks of Hitomi.
The simplest explanation is that Nemissa is what Hitomi wishes she was- bolder, able to dress how she pleases, strong and confident. Overconfident, a little bit childish or chūnibyō, because Nemissa, like Manitou, is a mirror, or perhaps a computer system. You get out what you put in. (And because Manitou is being accessed by so many people through Paradigm X, their sprite is a "golden human" like YHVH, Yaldabaoth, or Mem Aleph, being literally torn apart. Revealing snaking cables beneath.)
Of course, Soul Hackers as a text is frightened of the Internet and its possibilities, so a peaceful coexistence between the online handle/persona Nemissa and the meatspace self Hitomi isn't really possible within its spaces.
The overall paranoid stylings of the first two Devil Summoner games probably dictate some of this as well- the supernatural presence is associated with a grand conspiracy to unveil the gruesome historical foundation of the present day, and by integrating and accepting that foundation, the supernatural fades away. Megaten games are almost relentlessly secular-humanist in outlook, to the point where it can sometimes feel a little bit like being religious in their cosmology inevitably means being a puppet of dark forces.

Finished the Tokyo Blade arc. It was truly painful to watch them ad lib their lines, or even have several minutes of actor exposition between moments in the play. But the way it handled how messed up all these actors are was really cool. I'm shocked they managed to keep the actual end of the play secret for the entire season so far with all the selective cutting; even after watching all the rehearsals, I thought things were going off the rails, but somehow they weren't. Although I had noticed Akane's star eyes during her scene with Kana earlier, i hadn't realized she was specifically playing Ai playing Princess Sama - that was very cool. (Also, never expected Ai to actually get lines in this season!)
Okay, I guess I hadn't seen the talk Ai had with his brother(?!) yet. Besides the fact the story structure doesn't allow that to be it (there's a third season announced, and who knows how long the manga is but it's still running), it doesn't make sense for that guy to be their dad. It seems way more likely that some big-shot went around knocking up actresses, including Ai and that guy's mom, and that's why the other parents killed themselves. (Or possibly got set-up as well, given the whole motive Aqua has re: Ai's death.) Mostly I'm surprised Aqua didn't push back on that narrative at all, given he's been picking at this thread for 15 years
Aw, I missed MEM-cho. Alright, I was glad there was lip-service to Ruby also going to therapy during the reveal of Aqua's PTSD, but I did not expect Ruby to have her own complex about her cancer doc of all people. I was just wondering if Aqua had ever sent an anonymous tip to the cops about his corpse, and I guess not before he was 4 ... Or ever, apparently
Aqua looks so weird without his star. Has giving up on his revenge plot made him forget about his acting role of "teenager" too? Oh no, don't cut from Akane realizing he's going to break up with her to The Bridge, that's awful. Dang, she did that on purpose? She's definitely the most interesting character in this show. Of course she instantly figures out what was obvious to the audience (me)
Jeez, how much more parent trauma do they all have
Who the fuck is this new kid with crow powers. (Ai's "real" kids being stillborn answers a question I really had hoped wouldn't be asked)
Okay, we're in the woods at night. The one thing that was spoiled for me is that something breaks Ruby, but not what, and it seems incredibly likely now that she finds Aqua's old body. I knew he should've reported it at some point ... Woof, yeah
Having the supernatural entity that reincarnated them get directly involved in transferring the revenge quest to Ruby felt a little heavy-handed, although I guess I'm not sure how else the story was going to continue, with Aqua backing down and Akane not wanting to push things. I really hope Ruby actually talks to Aqua about the revenge plot next season though, because that level of "just talk about the problem to fix it" is usually too much for me to watch. And that post-credit scene makes me think the entity is the kami of that acting shrine, trying to stop the serial killer who keeps killing their followers, in the least effective way possible
