Spades
Spades(Here) Clubs Hearts Diamonds
Starting a small series for the next few days, and I'll be at Fan X by the time the last of these post! I'm not making a full set, but these are the hypothetical face cards of the card deck! All characters depicted are OC's and I'll add more info about them under the cut!
Get Your Own Art!
Cat (Catherine) ~ King of Spades
Cat has had the most changes out the entire cast. Originally she was just a normal college student who found herself wrapped up in the supernatural world. Nowadays, she's the Tether to Cosmo, the Apple Dragon!
Her vibe is that classic, vintage, Americana feel, and she aspires to one day own a Harley. Cat is 4ft 8in tall, plays softball at the local college, and tries her best to stop Cosmo from getting her in trouble. She can bemoan how she got to be a Tether to such a lame dragon, but over time she learns to appreciate Cosmo and master his power!
Her main weapon is a baseball bat and she will take your kneecaps with it.
Mentor ~ Queen of Spades
This character is currently unnamed because I need to put more research into naming conventions. This character is Indigenous American, and I don't want to have something too stereotypical or something that doesn't fit. I designed him with ethnicity in mind because I don't see a lot of Indigenous American representation and I wanted to branch out!
He is the Tether to the Moon Dragon, who is constantly being hunted by the Sun Dragon. So, as you can imagine, he's on the move a lot! He's a biker who travels from Coast to Coast, doing odd jobs and living life on the road. He ends up teaching Cat a thing or two about being a Tether, and why she should respect her dragon. He can't stay long though, he has to keep moving.
Cosmo ~ Jack of Spades
Now, you may be wondering why an Apple Dragon, living on the west coast of America, is an Asian dragon. That's a fair question! Turns out, apples originally came from Kazakhstan, supposedly going through Russia, before finally landing in Europe! "American as Apple Pie" really takes on a whole new meaning huh?
Well, Cosmo followed a similar route! He's the sweetest dragon ever and really just wants to help out his friends. He'll stand up for what's right and help out those in need. Cause of this, he chooses his Tethers very carefully. Aldar Kose, Robin Hood and even Jonny Appleseed were all previous partners of his, and he believes in his Tethers even when they don't believe in themselves!
That being said, he's a tiny dragon and is often underestimated. He's a dragon of Apples, after all, not a dragon of anything important. But he doesn't need to be! He's happy with himself and he can look out for the little guys like him! And hey, if he can save the world in the meantime? Well that'd be just dandy!
(Also, yes, he is designed to look like an apple peel with chocolate on top, cause he's just so darn sweet!!)

Tarot Vocab Crash-Course
When I first started tarot, there were a lot of words I had never heard before (what on earth is the Major Arcana), and a lot of words that I already knew which were being used in a different context to mean something tarot-specific (spread; reading).
So here are a bunch of words and phrases that will crop up as you learn more about tarot, with a brief tarot-specific explanation. Words or phrases requiring a longer explanation will have their own posts; links will become live as each is posted.
Arcana - See Major Arcana and Minor Arcana.
Aquarian deck - One of the more common tarot decks.
Court cards - The Page, Knight, King, and Queen in four of the five suits in a tarot deck (Wands, Cups, Swords, Pentacles), and not including the Major Arcana. Unlike regular playing cards, Aces are grouped with the number cards, and not with the court cards.
Chalices - Another name for the suit of Cups.
Coins - Another name for the suit of Pentacles.
Cups - One of the five suits in a typical tarot deck.
Deck - A complete set of cards; usually a complete set of a specific card design (eg Rider-Waite deck, Aquarian deck, Buffy the Vampire Slayer deck, etc)
Divination - The art or practice that seeks to foresee or foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge usually by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural powers; unusual insight; intuitive perception (via Merriam-Webster)
Fortune-telling - Foretelling events or details about the future, or about a specific person's future.
Major Arcana - One of the five suits in a typical tarot deck.
Minor Arcana - Four of the five suits in a tarot deck (Wands, Cups, Swords, Pentacles), and not including the Major Arcana; said another way, the Minor Arcana are any cards that aren't in the Major Arcana.
Oracle - (oar-uh-kul) An answer or decision given by an oracle; a person giving wise or authoritative decisions or opinions; an authoritative or wise expression or answer. (via Merriam-Webster)
Oracle deck - A deck of cards used for fortune-telling or divination that is not a tarot deck.
Pentacles - One of the five suits in a typical tarot deck. Not to be confused with pentagrams.
Quirent - (queer-ent; like 'inquiry;') the person asking the question, or who is the subject of the reading.
Reading - The interpretation of the information given by the cards.
Reversed - when first looking at a card during a reading (when drawn from the deck, when turned over in a spread, etc), if the card is upside-down it is reversed. The meaning for each card varies depending on if it is reversed or upright.
Rider-Waite - The most well-known tarot deck; considered a standard. Often the one used for teaching and examples, as it's the deck the greatest number of people are likely to be familiar with.
Rods - Another name for the suit of Wands.
Roman numerals - A numbering system invented by the ancient Romans and still in use today, used on some tarot decks (including the Rider-Waite deck).
Sage - A fragrant plant commonly used for smudging and smoke cleansing; traditionally used thus by many First Nations. Currently facing potential extinction due to overuse; should not be used unless ethically sourced or home-grown.
Signifier - a specific card associated with the quirent; a specific card that will act as a lens through which to view a reading.
Smoke cleansing - A type of ritual cleansing done with fragrant smoke, usually by burning dried herbs.
Smudging - A cleansing ritual or rite in many First Nation traditions that should not be used by non-First Nation people.
Spread - a pattern that tarot or oracle cards can be laid out in to add potential meaning and clarity to a reading.
Suit - A set of cards in a deck with a common symbol (eg in standard playing cards: hearts, clubs, diamonds, and spades). In a typical tarot deck, these suits are Wands, Cups, Swords, Pentacles, and the Major Arcana.
Swords - One of the five suits in a typical tarot deck.
Tarot - (tair-oh) A specific sort of card deck, usually used as a meditation tool, or for divination or fortune-telling.
Upright - when first looking at a card in a reading (when drawn from the deck, when turned over in a spread, etc) if the card is right-side-up it is upright. The meaning of each card varies depending on if it is upright or reversed.
Wands - One of the five suits in a typical tarot deck.

Squadron Reporting In: BTE Overdrive - Pilot Talismans
Greetings, Dan here!
One of the main goals for Beneath Twisted Earth: Overdrive was to provide GMs and players with supernatural options for their campaigns. This encompasses several additions across multiple aspects one of which we will be discussing today in the new option for players, Pilot Talismans. Dating far back in the histories of soldiers, but popularized in the media back during the 1940's is the concept of a soldier's talisman. Some manner of charm that brought them good luck while they were far from home, facing the horrors of war. Most related are the talismans that WWII pilots would carry with them on the sorties. This could range from a lucky pair of socks, to a photo of a loved one, or a trophy from a past brush with death. To get real for a moment, it's something I can relate to as I keep a pair of sunglasses I found at the beach on the day I almost lost someone important to me. It's this sort of story that brings meaning to such objects an in the case of BTE, tangible power.
Pilot Talismans will offer roleplaying opportunity for the players through the meaning the talisman holds to their character while also providing a minor mechanical benefit while the object is with them in the cockpit of their mech. To help illustrate what sort of talismans and benefits players can equip their pilots with, I've included two examples from BTE Overdrive below:
Book of Creed: If damage from a critical hit would drop the pilot to 0 HP, the book is destroyed instead and the pilot's HP remains unchanged.
Game Piece: If a mech piloting or weapon skill check is failed by one point, it succeeds instead.
When taking a Pilot Talisman, players will be encouraged to come up with the nature and background of the object. Will their book of creed be a religious tome passed down in their family, or a book of philosophy they hold dear because it helped them through a personal tragedy? Will they carry a rook from their childhood chess set, or an Ace of Spades from the deck of cards used to win their mech in poker? This talisman will help to provide added personality to the pilot while providing them a benefit they will swear by, even if it's negligible enough for others to dismiss as sheer coincidence.
Next time, we'll move from new pilot options to the expanded mech options that will be available in the expansion. What better place to start that with Utility Systems and the new abilities pilots will be able to equip their mech with? Until then. Thank you for your interest and I look forward to seeing you at the launch of the premium versions of Beneath Twisted Earth and the launch of Beneath Twisted Earth: Overdrive.

Happy STS! If you were to design a deck of playing cards based on characters in your WIP, who would you assign to be the King? The Queen? The Jack? The Ace? And the Joker?
Happy STS Nopal!!
You’ve triggered my cartomancy trap card!!
And given me the chance to ramble about some characters folks haven’t seen in Arsonist Chronicles yet!! [happy stim]
So I read a standard deck of playing cards the same as I’d read tarot (sans the major arcana), with the suits converted as such: spades = swords, hearts = cups, diamonds = coins, clubs = wands, jack = knave, ace = knight (I know, I don’t read the aces as aces, great crimes have been committed on this day). You didn’t come here for that though, you came for blorbos and blorbos you shall receive!
★○★○★○★
King of Spades: Taredd is as brilliant as he is charismatic — a shame he uses what would otherwise be qualities of a good leader to be a manipulative little bastard. He’s the current king of the Fae while the Seelie Courts hold power, and only recently assumed the throne after his father mysteriously abdicated mid-Revel. The whereabouts of former king Theodas are unknown.
Queen of Spades: Princess Cassara, Cassie my beloved. Sharp, clever, and as calculating as her brother, she’s quite happy in her position as second-in-line — she gets all the perks of nobility with none of the boring work that comes along with it. That, and she might have a massive secret mutual crush on her personal guard, and as queen, she’d be expected to marry someone for political gain. No thanks!
Jack of Spades: Funny enough, a queen — the nebulous queen of the Unseelie Courts, to be exact. Although, she technically isn’t a queen just yet; she slipped away into the night right before her coronation a few months prior to the start of Unlikely Adventures. There’s a rumor she’s sought a fresh start among the humans, in retail no less, but it’s so preposterous, it’s passed around as an ironic joke rather than viable theory.
Ace of Spades: General Nelene is the aforementioned personal guard. She was part of the ritual trade-off when the Seelie Courts took over — the monarchs of the two choose new guards from the ranks, and then trade. It’s supposed to be a show of trust but, well. Fae. Anyway Nellie has a big lesbian crush on Cassara and they’re totally ✨ Doin’ It ✨ on the DL, and they’re definitely Not Planning Anything Nefarious. What do you mean the Knight of Swords represents unbridled ambition? Noooo, no, Taredd trusts her with his life, his sister’s life, and control of his forces—
King of Hearts: Life — not for the King thing, it’s because she’s compassionate and generous, but she’s got great control over her emotions and she’s wary of disrupting the universal balance.
Queen of Hearts: Death. Yeah, we saw this one coming. She’s all the hyperempathy and none of the balance, thinks with her heart, doesn’t consider so much the consequences of her actions. Listen, you take an evening stroll through a graveyard and not feel your heart shatter into a million pieces over a little girl crying about her sister. I’m not saying I’d hand her a book of necromancy instructions, but I totally would.
Jack of Hearts: Ayla, of course. She’s the very embodiment of why we should not let our id run around unchecked. War crimes.
Ace of Hearts: Phada — she’s a whole can of worms by herself, and the reason we can’t have anything nice have vampires.
King of Diamonds: Savras Zegan! Yes diamonds is my FZS&S suit. Savras is a funny little hoarder of objects both mystical and mundane.
Queen of Diamonds: Paghana Fithum, mother hen of the entire supernatural community.
Jack of Diamonds: Miorina Stazor, don’t fear the Mia, but do fear the Reaper. Something, something new life, resurrections, etc.
Ace of Diamonds: Tom Smith — a man of utmost diligence. Nuff said.
King of Clubs: Acheron La Croix, Sang-d’origine bloodline. Imagine, if you will, the stuffiest, velvet-smoking-jacketest vampire ever. Now give him Dad Energy™️. Yeah, that’s Acheron.
Queen of Clubs: Fiery, determined, strong — Pamela Foster, president of the HOA and progenitor of the Castlebury Park vampire bloodline. It’s not often a new bloodline forms but when it does, it’s a big fucking deal — not to Pam. She has gardens to judge and citations to write and meetings to run and bake sales and festivals to coordinate and boy does she give the Vampire Council a run for their money.
Jack of Clubs: Psyche Hunter is a newer vampire and brings “fresh, young energy” to the council, whatever Acheron means by that. Personally, I think it’s because she taught him how to use a smartphone. Also, she’s been adopted by Keir and they’re bisexual power besties, and I just think they’re neat.
Ace of Clubs: Keir Toussaint is the perfect example of a centuries old immortal who’s fully integrated into modern society. This man was turned in fucking 1802. Fuckin regency era rake ass loves Fortnite and shitty beer. Brash, impulsive little punk.
🃏
Finally, we’ve reached the end. The wild card. The very embodiment of universal entropy. The Deep. [kisses his stupid head] Bastard <3

Cartomancy 101 - with Card Pictures!
#1: King Of Spades (SPN Deck)
At some point, I need to do a full review of my Supernatural card deck which I love more than life at this point. And maybe if I feel like it, I'll do some reviews of *all* my card decks, since I'm a collector and I accumulate too many (Bikes, my beloved~).
Anyway - I'm a cartomancy enthusiast, and I'd like to start showing off some of my personal favorite cards by doing a wee series on the meanings & interpretations behind them. And there is no better place to start than my Favorite Card Of All Time™, the SPN deck's King Of Spades.
Tumblr media
😱 Look at him!! Isn't he beautiful? 💖👑
One of the things I love about Albino Dragon's SPN deck in general is that the characters on the court cards are absolutely *perfectly* matched.
The way court cards work in cartomancy, they can either represent a set of characteristics, OR they can represent a specific type of person *with* those characteristics.
So the King of Spades can represent the following qualities: introspective, ethical, good at communicating, stern, motivated, and intelligent. Or, the King can represent a mature, professional man - especially one who has or wants to have authority.
Sound like Crowley to you?
But, Morgan, you may be saying - ethical? Ethical??
Well, Crowley *is* ethical. Remember his one rule? "Make a deal, keep it"? Crowley may not be a saint, but he still has his own (flexible) code to follow.
That's something to remember as well when you interpret this card in a reading... Especially when this card comes up for a person in authority. Are they following society's accepted rules - or only their own? Because ethical does *not* necessarily equate to "good."
Another reminder: for cartomancy purposes, "man" and "male" is used as a loose term. The same is true of all gendered terms in divination. Masculine does not equal cis man, or even a man at all. Masculine can mean big energy, solar energy, active energy, etc. If this card comes up in a reading, don't automatically assume that it refers to an actual man unless the context supports it, because the characteristics represented by this card could apply to any kind of person. Or entity. Or...........
One last note on cartomancy, which I'll expand with a later post: each suit in cartomancy corresponds to elements and general characteristics just like the suits in tarot. I wouldn't necessarily say that they're interchangeable, but..... They're basically interchangeable! At least until you remember the meanings behind each suit, since for some reason, folks seem to remember tarot suits easier than French deck suits. 🤷 Spades in cartomancy is basically equivalent to Swords in tarot: the element is air, and Spades cards generally deal with thoughts and communication. Perfect for a conniving and charismatic King Of Hell!~
(that said, if you do a pop culture entity reading, sometimes Crowley will also throw out Hearts/Cups, so.... Be ready for anything! 😂 )

I did read this the day you posted it, but I needed some time to put my thoughts together.
"- Have I mentioned that I hate clowns? Cuz hate clowns"
So Say We All, as they say in Battlestar Galactica.
"Interestingly, John and Mary are the most evenly split here between Sam or Dean coding."
They take turns. Mary has a lot in common with Dean psychologically, but she has the 'wanting to go to college' thing like Sam while John sees his future as being a hunter like Dean.
"- ok, as someone who has a veritable collection of tarot decks that I also use, I'm so fucking happy to see the Minor Arcana mentioned in fiction."
I've always liked the fact that the familiar Solitaire suits are descended from the Tarot suits (Hearts/Cups, emotion, water; Spades/Swords, thought, air; Diamonds/Pentacles/Coins, material reality, earth; Clubs/Wands, spirit, fire), with the Kings, Queens, Knights and Pages. The antagonist in the manga Return to Labyrinth was Mizumi, the Queen of Cups, a water-themed old flame of Jareth's whom the writer partly based on the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland and partly on Xayide from The Neverending Story.
"- And Mary is once again trying to take command, only here John is refusing, is pushing back against it, where before he'd have gone along or even tried to get the others to fall in line acting as mediator."
I'm just glad John has never tried some B.S. along the lines of 'I should be the leader 'cause I'm a *man*" and acknowledges Mary has been doing this much longer.
"-John & Lata, hell yeah! Love that she's checking in with him and that she makes sure to clarify that she's the one asking. And gives him the space he's clearly asking for, not pushing against his lie."
Keep up with your meditation, John! You promised, and you don't want to let Lata down.
"- Adore that Carlos was so so shocked by her outburst and then again that she was faking."
Uh huh.
"- It's interesting that Limbo was trying to remain in a perpetually happy state (and targetted those he saw as needing the same) but Clarence ended up essentially in a state of perpetual grief."
Which was Limbo's fault. I smell the whiff of hypocrisy.
"I take back John projecting. I would actually like to formally apologize to John here cuz Mary is doing the tried and true "dealing with emotions" approach that Sam uses everytime aka she is trying to dictate how John should be reacting to kyle's murder just because he isn't reacting like how she thinks he should be."
Honestly, I wasn't sure what she wanted him to do. What was there to say, and how would it help?
"- Also love that John pushes back. And especially that he puts to words what I think a lot of the fandom has said some variation of. That as long as there's one more hunt, a world to save, people in danger then considering an alternate future"
To be honest, if I lived in a world where being a hunter was a thing, I'd think it was irresponsible to give it up completely, because people will suffer as a result.
"Are there others that I'm missing? Is this a pattern?? I don’t remember, pls lemme know."
In The Winchesters rather than Supernatural? No. Supernatural had the infamous Bloody Mary, of course.
"- FFS! Rowena literally says she's looking for info ABOUT CROWLEY! Is my memory so bad or is my subconscious so active?"
This could be Original Flavor Rowena, but it being Alternate Rowena would fit because she'd be topside and looking for an Alternate Crowley who is still alive, and she might have a different relationship with. In any event, this definitely would have set up future appearances by both Rowena and Crowley, and I hate the fact The Winchesters were cancelled all over again.
"- Ah John, there you are, stumbling straight into danger. Couldn't let Mary have this one, could you?"
No reinforcements, really?
"- Also the pain in John's eyes, even as he is forced to smile might haunt me almost as much as Dean faking a smile in season 7."
But also, given that I hate clowns, it's weird that John and Mary somehow manage to still be hot with clown makeup.
"- l love Rowena so much. And she's gorgeous as always!"
Look forward to seeing more of Ruth Connell as the demon Asa aka Nightmare Nurse in Dead Boy Detectives on Max. She's actually the only actor reprising their role after the Dead Boy Detectives characters' appearance in an episode of Doom Patrol.
"- I like their resolution a lot. And Millie just giving them all the good news"
Eh. John fled custody (custody that he was in legitimately, because he was accused of a crime with credible evidence, the fact it turned out he didn't do it doesn't make custody on suspicion of it illegitimate), and Mary was seen helping him do it and beating up police, so in the real world both of them would still be wanted to serve jail time even if John was cleared of Kyle's murder. So they'd either have to return to Lawrence and serve some time or be fugitives permanently like Dean and Sam. Crimes committed in the process of clearing someone's name of another crime are still crimes, especially if in the eyes of the law you could easily have stayed put while the evidence was being obtained by your friends, and instead you actually hurt people. Hurt cops, no less. But so many shows and movies make this mistake, it's hardly unique to The Winchesters.
BTW, poor Kyle's folks. His relatives are going to think he went nuts over Mary, killed himself and tried to frame John for it. Would actually make a similar villain origin story to some antagonists that have popped up in Supernatural if they blamed Mary for his death, which they could do based either on the official story *or* what really happened. I'm assuming Mary and Kyle legit met by chance at the theatre and that's why the Akrida targeted him.
"- And Ada, I know she ends up telling them, but god when this first aired the Winchester stupidity was fresh to mind so I was soooo concerned for her."
Expected her to keep mum, so it was a relief she told them the truth at the beginning of the next episode. If they'd had a longer season order, no doubt this would have been drawn out more, and so would the coming of the Great Conjunction (yes, that's a Dark Crystal in-joke).
"Just the finale left now, I am sad 😔 but excited!
See y'all then!"
Yay, looking forward to it! If only there were more. Why does Jensen Ackles's deal with Amazon not cover The Winchesters?
And finally , long awaited ep 12. Sorry guys !!!
- We start off with one of the characters not wanting to deal with whatever they're dealing with. That's not gonna be relevant throughout I'm sure...
- Have I mentioned that I hate clowns? Cuz hate clowns
- Ah yes! Dean discussing lying to yourself, also gonna be relevant. But I'm even more intrigued that he ties this need for dishonesty intrinsically to hunting.
- John is completely lying to himself and projecting hard on Mary. Not that Mary isn't also lying to herself. Interestingly, John and Mary are the most evenly split here between Sam or Dean coding.
- ok, as someone who has a veritable collection of tarot decks that I also use, I'm so fucking happy to see the Minor Arcana mentioned in fiction. Especially since most just add in Major Arcana cards with little to no relevance or meaning as to why those cards drawn are Majors. And yeah, the witches here aren't doing a reading, but I still love to see Swords and Pentacles mentioned! Might even be a cheeky hint as to how the main witch operates since swords are commonly related to the mental aspect and pentacles to the material/monetary (Known in some decks as coins even). And what is she doing if not playing a mind game in order to win the game and gain the reward for it.
-God, she's an asshole to Ada! No one is an asshole to Ada!
- Well, Limbo def is an apt name. He def acts like a type of inbetween state where you're not dead but you sure aren't living either. I also find it fascinating in the context of Purgatory. Because to Dean Purgatory was pure (or better put for our purposes here, was unfiltered truth) whereas Limbo here is pure avoidance. Essentially ,if Purgatory worked as a place where Dean could be as uncomplicated and true as he could (which yes, that's very much an oversimplification) then Limbo is pure pretending/fake.
- And Mary is once again trying to take command, only here John is refusing, is pushing back against it, where before he'd have gone along or even tried to get the others to fall in line acting as mediator.
- The misdirect of the brother is hilarious in hindsight, they gave him such menacing music as background.
- Love that we have clear signs that if at all possible witches will try to hide.
- ROWEEEEENNNNAAAAA!!!!!
-John & Lata, hell yeah! Love that she's checking in with him and that she makes sure to clarify that she's the one asking. And gives him the space he's clearly asking for, not pushing against his lie.
- Meanwhile, Mary& Carlos have a much more direct convo but no less empathetic though still focused on John interestingly enough.
- Adore that Carlos was so so shocked by her outburst and then again that she was faking.
- Love a soul trade that is basically a trap
- The way Carlos just forgot their cover. Hahahahaha OMG!!! I love them!
- And the echoes of Sam begin in earnest - parents dead, older brother trying to parent but not having the tools to do so, younger brother running away...
- It's interesting that Limbo was trying to remain in a perpetually happy state (and targetted those he saw as needing the same) but Clarence ended up essentially in a state of perpetual grief. He says he wishes he'd helped Roger through his grief but he himself just traded the grief of his parents death with that of Roger's being taken. An interesting contrast between Limbo & Clarence, and a clear echo of SPN!John there also - mild but present.
- Oh, Carlos, you absolute sweetheart! And no argument against the "you were just a kid too" statement, love to see it!
- OK, now comes me trying to argue that this Rowena is our Rowena. Exhibit A: she was so clearly lying about the Grimoire and not the fact that the MOL stole it - her facial expressions to me read very much like she just made up an excuse to be there and help Ada. We've seen how Romena acts when she's actually trying to get a powerful Grimoire, this was not it. at all. This felt more like her keeping appearences than actually working an angle.
- Neverming, forgot she literally spells it out for us. In other words though, I was right.
-I choose to believe that the demon trapped in the plant is somehow, someway related to her getting Crowley back. I love Crowley so I will not accept any other meaning here. I'd have loved to see what they wanted to do with Rowena later on. Ugh every day I mourn that we didn't get more of this show.
- I take back John projecting. I would actually like to formally apologize to John here cuz Mary is doing the tried and true "dealing with emotions" approach that Sam uses everytime aka she is trying to dictate how John should be reacting to kyle's murder just because he isn't reacting like how she thinks he should be. I do love seeing them fight here, It's a whole mess they've found themselves in and haven't dealt with it at all so far. Make sense it'll all come to a head in this away. John is actually our Dean-mirror here. This fight also echoes the fight between Sam & Dean at Mia Vallens place (word for word even, in some places).
- Also love that John pushes back. And especially that he puts to words what I think a lot of the fandom has said some variation of. That as long as there's one more hunt, a world to save, people in danger then considering an alternate future
becomes that much harder to go towards... And that's not to say this applies 1 to 1 to Sam and Dean, because they quite literally didn't have a choice, but it does speak to the fact that you can't really move forward until you let go of the past that's holding you back or more so even -  though we're moving away from what this ep has to say with this - that you can't really heal from trauma til you're out of the traumatizing situation.
- And continuing our Sam echoes here, it's in fact Mary who's 1st approached by Limbo, Mary who's pain calls out while all the eyes were on John (and once more I'm reminded of the
Werther Box and how it was Sam who nearly killed himself due to a Rowena hallucination via the Box that got so much worryingly closer than Dean who we saw from the start got hit by the spell)
"John: Mary wait for me
Mary: Nope! I do what I want (proceeds to get taken by monster) " oh how the turn tables...
- I gotta say, this wasn't John's fault here. Mary wasn't ok far before their fight and if it had just beenmthe fight then John would've been taken too then. I actually think Limbo might've been honing into people who were, yes in crisis, but refusing to deal with it just like he had been, people looking to bargain away the negativity in their life for even a false sense of happiness.
- I also gotta mention this is the...2nd monster who's source of power is a mirror (Loki/Gabe being the 1st) Are there others that I'm missing? Is this a pattern?? I don’t remember, pls lemme know.
- Carlos you absolute king! Once more being the one to offer the practical solution, Lata is our theoretical queen though, let it be known,
- FFS! Rowena literally says she's looking for info ABOUT CROWLEY! Is my memory so bad or is my subconscious so active?
-Oh Rowena, there was no need to hurt Ada. Why must two bad bitches fight eachother?!
- Ah John, there you are, stumbling straight into danger. Couldn't let Mary have this one, could you?
- Hate clowns!
- Don't mind Limbo that much right now.
- Wait!!!. John cheated his way here... like he cheated his way into the army, like he, technically, cheated his way to hunting (he's MOL legacy afterall)
- "We never have to fight again about my future or your anger" jesus christ, skinning me alive would hurt less than this line. After all, what causes the whole fight in SPN to occur if not Mary's lack of a future and John's resulting anger (spurned by grief) My god, this fucking line from Mary.
- John is truly our Dean mirror here "it wouldn't be real" echoes so much Dean's feelings about heaven
- Also the pain in John's eyes, even as he is forced to smile might haunt me almost as much as Dean faking a smile in season 7. And I legit cannot look at that scene with Dean.
- Nooo, not the clowns ...
- Carlos and that big heart of theirs saves the day. I love it.
- Lata is however absolutely hilarious here though.
- l love Rowena so much. And she's gorgeous as always!
- Of course we'll be dealing with souls being used up, tiny Jack and Lily Sunder echo, nice!
- Exhibit B for Rowena, she just vanishes into thin air, not her usual way of leaving prior to Queen of Hell status
- Ugh, the "it's been 30 years" since Clarence has seen his brother. The Mary resurection of it all. And John with the "better than never seeing them again" hits hard man!
- Oh Mary, sweetheart.
- I like their resolution a lot. And Millie just giving them all the good news
- Yes Lala you figured it out baby!
- And Ada, I know she ends up telling them, but god when this first aired the Winchester stupidity was fresh to mind so I was soooo concerned for her.
Just the finale left now, I am sad 😔 but excited!
See y'all then!
@noybusiness - thank you for the encouragements! Its finally here!
@shallowseeker - I love reading your thoughts on SPN and had a fantastic time beta reading for you so here's something for u to hoefully enjoy! Hope you feel better soon!

How to Read Playing Cards: Suits, Jokers & Numerology
For the standard French-suited playing cards there are typically 54 total cards in one deck. These cards are split between four suits (spades, diamonds, clubs and hearts) and then the two jokers (the red joker and the black joker). In this post I will be going over the general meanings of the four suits, discussing why I prefer to use the joker cards and how numerology can play a part in your interpretations.
The Suits
There are four suits in playing cards: spades, diamonds, clubs and hearts. Spades and clubs are considered black suits. Diamonds and hearts are considered red suits. This may be different depending on the deck you get, but this is how standard decks work. Each suit is represented by a symbol and has some general topics associated with them.
♤ Spades: Challenges, Struggles, Obstacles, Conflicts, Setbacks
♢ Diamonds: Finances, Material Value, Success, Rewards, Growth
♧ Clubs: Accomplishments, Luck, Social Status, Communication, Transactions
♡ Hearts: Emotions, Love, Relationships, Partnerships, Family
One method of reading playing cards that can help you with your interpretations is by paying attention to the suits and what order they're pulled. Paying attention to this can help you get a better idea on what the reading is talking about. So, let's say you're doing a three card reading. Here are a few ways to interpret the general topic of the reading based on the suits.
[ ♤ ♤ ♤ ] - Three spades being pulled means there is trouble ahead, and it may not be getting better any time soon.
[ ♤ ♡ ♤ ] - A heart surrounded by two spades can indicate trouble in relationships or with the self, depending on the reading.
[ ♢ ♤ ♢ ] - A spade surrounded by two diamonds can indicate that a financial problem will eventually improve.
[ ♢ ♧ ♢ ] - A club surrounded by two diamonds can indicate that new business opportunities will be presented.
[ ♧ ♢ ♤ ] - A club followed by a diamond and then a spade can indicate that the person is heading towards a financial problem.
Onto the topic of reversals... Some people read them, some don't. That's your choice to make. Personally, I read reversals with all cards except the kings, queens and jacks.
My reason for this is because the kings, queens and jacks all represent people. My way of interpreting these cards describes their physical appearances more than who they are, although each are also associated with a general description of that person's essence for that reading. A person is not simply one thing or the other. Humans are complex beings, and we can show multiple faces depending on who we're with. You'll understand this better once we get to discussing each card's individual meanings.
The Jokers
Some people choose not to use the jokers in their readings. Some do, but describe the jokers as being the equivalent the the fool in tarot. I've even seen some try to fill in the entire major arcana of tarot into the jokers. My opinions here are that not using the jokers leaves out important cards that can help further clarify a reading, and that trying to use the jokers as a "fill in" for tarot's major arcana cards is inefficient.
You can choose to not use joker cards in your reading. That is your decision to make. I use them, though, and therefore I will be talking about their meanings here. I use Jake Richard's (an Appalachian practitioner and author of multiple books about Appalachian folk magic) interpretations of the jokers, which is described as the following.
🃏 Red Joker: The red joker is a witch or other conjurer, a person working against you in some way whether supernatural or not. Enemies can be tricky. But the cards know almost all, and it is hard to hide from them. If this card shows upright there is a threat from such a one, whether supernatural or not. Other cards can determine that, such as the nine of spades showing witchcraft. If reversed, there is either no threat or the threat doesn't walk this earth.
🃏 Black Joker: This card shows the presence of evil spirits, demons, haints, whatever you want to call them. Their intentions ain't good. If it shows with the red joker behind it, the spirit has been employed by another to do their bidding. If the red joker shows before it, someone is knowingly or unknowingly doing the spirit's work. Ghosts and spirits can work your mind to do, say or think things you've never thought of. Nothing good comes of this card unless it is reversed. Then there is no direct threat. The devil's not about.
Numerology
Numerology is used in a variety of different divination systems, including playing cards. It can help you begin to develop a general idea of the individual card's meaning. Here is a list of numerology meanings in playing card divination so that you can refer to it later, if you must.
Ace: Beginning, Independence, Individuality
Two: Pairings, Balance, Exchanges
Three: Growth, Improvement, Connection
Four: Stability, Security, Practicality
Five: Flexibility, Adaptability, Change
Six: Responsibility, Support, Leadership
Seven: Luck, Intuition, Analyzing
Eight: Ambition, Power, Endurance
Nine: Resolution, Release, Awakening
Ten: Cycles, Transitions, Shifts

Why I Chose Every Character That Went Into The Opera Playing Cards
Tumblr media
so! if you are unaware, one of my Products(TM) that i sell are whole opera-themed card decks. they are probably one of my favorite projects that i've worked on (and you can get them on my etsy). i realized that i never did actually go into the way i chose opera characters for each playing card here, which is silly bc honestly figuring that one out was the most difficult part of the process. i decided instead of focusing on specific operas, i'd focus on the cartomancy meaning behind every playing card. i looked at each one, figured out who they reminded me of, and then went from there; ground rules being every character only got one card and no opera could have more than 3 card representations in the deck.
i should note that cartomancy meanings vary by source to source so mine might not be fully 'accurate' to everyone. i should also note that while i find it a fun idea, i don't actually have any supernatural beliefs regarding cartomancy (or everything else) and took it as a literary analysis thing more than anything.
without further ado: every card meaning and character on it.
also i spent like 2 hours on this post so. Ha ha
THE SPADES (regarding challenges and overcoming them)
MEPHISTOPHELES, THE ACE OF SPADES: The Ace of Spades, traditionally the first card in the deck, stands for 'death' and endings. It can also stand for all sorts of other bad things; spite, misfortune... but the Ace of Spades isn't necessarily a 'bad' card. It can mean endings of anything, deaths of anything both literal and metaphorical.
AZUCENA, THE TWO OF SPADES: The Two of Spades can stand for deceit, change (particularly regarding identities from what I can tell), and difficult decisions. It can also suggest uncertainty and a removal, as if this change in identity wasn't planned but rather forced by circumstance.
COUNT ALMAVIVA, THE THREE OF SPADES: Infidelity, particularly in marriages. Poor communications, opportunity running dry, troubled relationships; the Three of Spades has it all in one unfortunate package.
VIOLETTA, THE FOUR OF SPADES: The Four of Spades is traditionally associated with illness; sometimes even just the lingering worry of it. However, it carries the dual meaning of broken promises: Either you will be able to fulfill a promise, or someone you love will break one for you.
SIEGFRIED AND FAFNER, THE FIVE OF SPADES: The Five of Spades stands as something of a 'starter' problem, a challenge you will rise against for now. You might have greater challenges in the future ahead of you, but for now you will find success against this first difficulty. Hooray!.....?
TOSCA, THE SIX OF SPADES: Improvements, positive change, purpose, rebellious upswing. The Six of Spades is never the answer to a conflict, and there's often the implication that problems will go on. But in the moment there is this little bit of revolution, this little commitment to making life a bit better.
EUGENE ONEGIN AND LENSKY, THE SEVEN OF SPADES: The Seven of Spades stands for bad advice, and worse decisions, often ones made on impulsive whims. It may also refer to a difficult situation with no clear winners. Either way, it also stands for the grief and loss that will arise because of itself.
SPARAFUCILE AND MADDALENA, THE EIGHT OF SPADES: The Eight of Spades stands for deceit and danger, particularly coming from what was once a promising financial/personal opportunity. It can also refer to plans going awry, or crossroads at work forcing you to make an important decision. Caution is advised, in any case.
LEPORELLO, THE NINE OF SPADES: Bad luck, accidents, anxiety. The Nine of Spades is sometimes a card of indecision, and sometimes a card of helplessness in the face of danger. It can also mean that the threat of loss is looming over your life- the loss of somebody close to you.
DON GIOVANNI, THE TEN OF SPADES: The Ten of Spades is a warning. Bad news and evil- often implied to be something untamable and fundamentally irrational- is on its way, and the best you can do is duck out of its way before it gets to you. Something wicked this way comes...
L'ENFANT (from ravel's 'l'enfant et les sortileges'), THE JACK OF SPADES: The Jack of Spades is the sign of a troublesome youth, wild and unkempt, who will cause problems almost unwittingly. However, this card isn't necessarily a warning of evil like the Ten of Spades; the Jack of Spades is an annoyance but not actively really malicious.
THE COUNTESS (from tchaikovsky's 'the queen of spades'), THE... QUEEN OF SPADES: Besides the fun name coincidence, the Queen of Spades stands for a dark-haired woman, commonly interpreted as a widow. She will offer you advice but it's up to you how to utilize it or even if you should utilize it at all.
BARON SCARPIA, THE KING OF SPADES: The King of Spades stands for an accomplished older man, often a position of authority. He is smart and ambitious, and a force to be reckoned with; but he is selfish and it will be his selfishness and blind pursuit of his own desires that will do him in.
THE DIAMONDS (regarding money and financial matters)
ROSINA (barber of seville), THE ACE OF DIAMONDS: The Ace of Diamonds, most literally, stands for small gifts- a bracelet, or a ring, or (most commonly) a letter. However, more metaphorically, it stands for upgrades and new opportunity; new households, new relationships, and new social status.
DONNA ELVIRA, THE TWO OF DIAMONDS: The Two of Diamonds usually stands for disapproval of a relationship, whether personally or societally. Often these relationships are implied to be affairs- ones that could have disastrous consequences for all involved.
LUCIA ASHTON, THE THREE OF DIAMONDS: The Three of Diamonds is another warning card. In its broadest strokes it symbolizes trouble, but if you look closer it often stands for broken marriages and violence in the home between families. It is a card that is at once very still and very violent; the calm before a storm.
TOM RAKEWELL, THE FOUR OF DIAMONDS: The Four of Diamonds stands for unexpected money and inheritance, and a sudden coming into one's own. However, it can also stand for heeding the advice of those closest to you, whether positive... or negative.
PORGY AND BESS, THE FIVE OF DIAMONDS: Like the Six of Spades, the Five of Diamonds is seen as a smaller card in the grand scheme of things; problems will go on before and after it. But it stands for improvements, and solidarity; quiet new beginnings and newfound hope.
B.F. PINKERTON, THE SIX OF DIAMONDS: The Six of Diamonds stands for domestic trouble and infidelity, but unlike the Three of Spades it focuses particularly on problems in a second marriage or multiple conflicting promises that cannot all be fulfilled. There's an urge to take responsibility- but also a sense that the urge will be ignored.
RODOLFO AND MARCELLO, THE SEVEN OF DIAMONDS: (fun fact this was the last card i did in the whole deck.) The Seven of Diamonds stands for financial challenges, particularly when it comes to work. It can also indicate meeting someone new, although this interpretation is much rarer.
FAUST, THE EIGHT OF DIAMONDS: The Eight of Diamonds stands for things coming in time. You may not find financial opportunities or even romance now, but they will surprise you later in life; you just have to look for them and stop worrying about the alleged value of youth.
BILLY BUDD, THE NINE OF DIAMONDS: The Nine of Diamonds often stands for new business opportunity presenting themselves in the workplace; most commonly the opportunity to travel.
HANNA GLAWARI, THE TEN OF DIAMONDS: The Ten of Diamonds stands for financial prosperity to the point of excess, as well as good fortune with your relationships and the people you choose to surround yourself with. Success is here! Celebrate!
DESPINA, THE JACK OF DIAMONDS: The Jack of Diamonds represents a close friend with darker intentions. She may be the bearer of bad news, or she may just be a gossip. The Jack of Diamonds is unreliable and dishonest, and would absolutely sell you out in a heartbeat.
CARMEN, THE QUEEN OF DIAMONDS: The Queen of Diamonds stands for an outgoing, flirtatious woman, one who isn't afraid to take life by the horns. Be her friend and she will be a great asset, be her enemy and you will always be annoyed with her. However, either way: Try to sever her from her carefree life, and there will be consequences.
KING FILIPPO, THE KING OF DIAMONDS: Like the King of Spades, the King of Diamonds is an accomplished older authoritative figure. He is often one of great influence over the people around him, although he may not realize it. Further information on the card tends to be contradictory, but it seems this man is more easily influenced than he initially appears and might not be trustworthy.
THE CLUBS (regarding chance and the wheels of fortune)
ORFEO AND EURIDICE (gluck), THE ACE OF CLUBS: The Ace of Clubs stands for a story that otherwise would end in tragedy, but- through compassion, or luck, or even the hand of God- has ended happily. Sudden changes of plans with positive connotations, sudden good fortune; very rarely is a sudden thing a good outcome in cartomancy but just this once it is.
AGRIPPINA, THE TWO OF CLUBS: The Two of Clubs stands for gossip and manipulation, as well as challenges in life brought about by them. The gossip in this case is entirely planned in order to influence specific outcomes. Be careful of those around you, and be even more careful of their ulterior motives.
LOHENGRIN AND ELSA, THE THREE OF CLUBS: The Three of Clubs stands for marriage, particularly marriages of wealth and power. While some allege the card also stands for successful marriages, there is a distinct layer of melancholy to it- perhaps the powerful are, in some way, always alone.
NICK SHADOW, THE FOUR OF CLUBS: The Four of Clubs stands for deceit and betrayal from those around you. You may find a friend or mentor that you trust greatly, but they will turn on you and manipulate you- and it's because you blindly accepted them to begin with. Take caution and beware of those with promises too sweet.
MIMI, THE FIVE OF CLUBS: The Five of Clubs indicates new friend groups, new support networks, and new places. It may be an indication to reach out more and see the world around you, but in this way it can serve as a warning: Do the things you want to do before your time runs out.
GIANNI SCHICCI, THE SIX OF CLUBS: The Six of Clubs indicates success in finance and relationships, primarily finance, but not one you will achieve yourself. Someone else- someone who you might know, or who might be a stranger- will financially assist you and find ways to help you get your matters sorted.
DIDO, THE SEVEN OF CLUBS: The Seven of Clubs stands two things at once. The first accomplishment in business, and a high societal rank. However, the second is trouble in relationships, and a deep sense of loneliness or isolation stemming from the first. These two go hand in hand- and in trying to please one you may lose your grip on the other.
LADY MACBETH, THE EIGHT OF CLUBS: The Eight of Clubs symbolizes difficulty, both personally and professionally, relating particularly to decay. Opportunities that seem tempting right now will crumble and turn on you. Be careful, and keep your ambition in check.
ESCAMILLO, THE NINE OF CLUBS: The Nine of Clubs is flashy and immediately draws your attention. You will find new opportunities, particularly presenting themselves in the form of a new admirer or romantic partner. However, at the same time, it is a warning against stubbornness, and should strike a bit of fear into the hearts of the bullish.
MANON LESCAUT, THE TEN OF CLUBS: The Ten of Clubs stands for unexpected- and joyful- travel, although it may come at the expense of other things. It can also represent newfound opportunity and a sense of love for the world at large.
BRUNHILDE, THE JACK OF CLUBS: The Jack of Clubs represents a strong-willed, trustworthy friend who will go to bat for you regardless of circumstance. She may be dramatic and fiery, but this is to her benefit, and to yours- you may always count on her in the face of struggle.
FRICKA, THE QUEEN OF CLUBS: The Queen of Clubs represents a confident women, unafraid to speak her mind yet burdened by her own power, in an authoritative position. She may infuriate some, and impede the plans of others, but in the end she has her reasons for her behavior and does bring up some good points.
WOTAN, THE KING OF CLUBS: The King of Clubs represents a strong older man. He may be affectionate and well-meaning in some readings, and deeply corrupt and contemptuous in others- perhaps these may both be true. He may seek money or a particular resource from you, and he may have ulterior motives to get it. What you think of him, ultimately, is up to you.
THE HEARTS (regarding love and relationships)
OCTAVIAN AND SOPHIE, THE ACE OF HEARTS (yes rosenkav is my least favorite but i had to put it in there somewhere i guesss): The Ace Of Hearts represents newness, and naïveté, and wet-behind-the-ears. It stands for puppy love and young couples, as well as new opportunity and budding romance.
FIGARO AND SUSANNA, THE TWO OF HEARTS: The Two of Hearts represents balance, harmonious relationships, or even just evenly-matched partnerships of any kind. Both parties are respectful and share balanced power, and happiness in the future is guaranteed as a result. The card may also suggest a knack for romantic fortune.
DON JOSE, THE THREE OF HEARTS: The Three of Hearts stands for romantic jealousy and possessiveness of others. It suggests foolishness, and misplaced priorities; it is often associated with throwing one's life away in the pursuit of supposed love, and for believing you have more control over others than you really do. The Three of Hearts serves as a warning: Be cautious in your relationships.
LEONORE/FIDELIO, THE FOUR OF HEARTS: The Four of Hearts stands for change and revolution on the horizon, often in the pursuit of passion or love. It may also mean peace prevailing, and love conquering all; in any case the Four of Hearts may be intimidating but it is ultimately a boon and a sign of good things to come.
OTELLO, THE FIVE OF HEARTS: The Five Of Hearts stands for envy. Either you may be envious of others, or others with dark motives may be envious of you. Either way, it is best to be cautious, and not let the green-eyed monster get the best of you.
PAPAGENO AND PAPAGENA, THE SIX OF HEARTS: The six of hearts stands for many things- things that are, in some way, united. It stands for keeping hope in darker times, and finding love in unexpected places- or simply being surprised by the person you end up with. It may also suggest something childlike or a moment of harmony.
SANTUZZA, THE SEVEN OF HEARTS: The Seven of Hearts, similarly to the Four of Spades, represents broken promises, although without the promise of illness. It often particularly represents a partner or friend, or other close figure, who will let you down in a moment of crisis.
HANSEL AND GRETEL, THE EIGHT OF HEARTS: The Eight of Hearts stands for visitors and invitations; comings and going. You may be invited by someone, or someone may visit you; in either case, however, be wary of their intentions because both positive and negative invitations are prophesied by this card.
NEMORINO AND ADINA, THE NINE OF HEARTS: The Nine of Hearts is somewhat unique in that its meaning is nearly universal. Known as the Wish Card, it is said it makes the wildest dreams come true, often synonymous with a new job, or partner, or child, or house. Think on your hopes with this card and they may come true.
CENDRILLON, THE TEN OF HEARTS: The Ten of Hearts represents good fortune on its way to the needy, often in the form of a large gathering or public social event. This event can be a wedding, or convention, but most often it is said to be a large party. You may meet important people there.
CHERUBINO, THE JACK OF HEARTS: The Jack of Hearts represents a young ally, often associated with young love. They may admire you the way schoolboys admire young teachers, or they may simply be a childish youth. They are your friend, although they are young and innocent and may not be the most helpful.
ALICE FORD, THE QUEEN OF HEARTS: The Queen of Hearts represents a kind woman, who will help you in your journeys and plans. She is usually a maternal figure, although she is not usually your literal mother, and she will be more clever than she initially appears to be.
HANS SACHS, THE KING OF HEARTS: Like the maternal figure of the Queen of Hearts, the King of Hearts is a paternal figure. He is a kind if somewhat more distant man. He will dispense good advice, and will help you in your romantic pursuits; although he is just as often associated with literature and the fine arts.
RIGOLETTO, THE RED JOKER, and CANIO, THE BLACK JOKER: Jokers are unique in the they are far younger than the rest of the deck, having been invented during the American Civil War for specific trump card-related games. They are not traditionally included in cartomancy for this reason, although they may be used as something similar to the Fool in the Tarot Major Arcana. They are often discarded immediately, and not given much further thought; while both Joker cards were obvious character choices I wanted to also highlight the sense of being discarded and unwanted that is pivotal to the card.
Thats all of them. If you're still reading this I'm so sorry.

Actually I need to rewrite and improve the concept:
I was thinking since the beggining about the difference between Poker vs Tarot and the way my still nameless OC sees the world. Poker is a very ahhhhhhhhhh... "mechanic" system. Hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds, growing and diminishing. Kinda a "black n white" pov but "black n red" ahsahsa. Very organized, almost too much. Like the clockwork engine of a perfect machine.
Walking down the market, watching the people go by. What is the role of the fortune teller in all of this? To witness and see beyond the veil but never to be present enough to act. No one asks for the fortune teller's life! They want to know about their own lifes, their own stories! She's lonely, empty, like the perfect mirror that never says and always shows.
The apparition of the Tarot deck of cards moves her head furniture to the other side of the fucking room ahshahsa.
Death wispering into her ear "Live...live...live...". The Devil in one shoulder and the Virtues in the other one, filling her mind with the voices of past, present and future.
I'm thinking about the "supernatural detective" element of Disco Elysium. At the end of the day that's exactly what a tarot reader is! An irrational detective that looks for clues to complete the puzzle.
OC idea:
A young fortune-teller with low social skills and strong curiosity with mommy issues and some kind of neurodivergence related to clairvoyance ahshasa. The 22 major arcana cards from her Tarot deck act and speak like the skills in Harry Du Bois' brain ahshashasa
Le Diable (The Devil): It's me girl, I'm God. Speaking to you inside your brain! Listen to me, girl. Steal that baguette! Start a REVOLUTION! La Roue de la Fortune: Do it La Justice: Don't Le Soleil (The Sun): IMAGINE the FLAVOUR Le Diable: Ignore the bitch, we don't need her! Come with me and play my games. We'll have cowboy times in space. Doo-doo-da-doo, yeah. You need me girl, your free will is an illusion...
Officer: Miss, are you there? Miss?? Do you hear me??

Day 4: Magic/Supernatural
“Pick a card, any card.” He holds the deck out with a flourish and she rolls her eyes. “Come on, just humor me.”
“Alright. This one.” She slides a card out of the pile and looks at it. King of Spades.
“Okay, put it back.” He shuffles the cards, making more of a show out of it than he has to. “Is this your card Miss Romanoff?” He flips out a card, setting it on the table. It’s a four of clubs. She laughs.
“Try again.”
“Wait- really? Aw, damn it. I thought I remembered how to do this. Um… this one?” He picks another one, a ten of hearts. She smiles sympathetically. He groans, setting the deck in front of him. “Okay, well to be fair, I didn’t practice magic in the circus. I’m also pretty sure the magician was sleeping with the lady who took care of the elephants.” She’s not sure if he’s serious or not. He only taught me how to do one trick. It’s kind of lame but it helped me pick up a girl at the bar once.” He holds his hands out, palms flat, then turns them over to show her. He leans across the table, reaching behind her ear. When he draws his hand back, he’s holding a card. A King of Spades. He grins. “Is this your card?”
“Wait, what? How did you do that?” He stands up, ruffling her hair as he walks past.
“A magician never reveals his secrets!”

Why not have your heroes and villains be playing card themed?
You might be thinking "that sounds pretty limiting" and maybe it is a little, but if you look in to the history of playing cards there's actually a fair bit of interesting variation.
For example some decks have clubs as bright pink, so you could have a bright pink club themed character.
Or instead of spades you could use them be pikes/halberds as they where originally intended to look like.
And hey maybe you could you some even older variations on cards with coins, cups and swords instead!
Oh also tarot cards are originally a form of playing who's supernatural association is actually very recent so like you could probably use them too.
(honestly what you should take from this is that inspiration for stuff in your fantasy writing whatever can come from whatever, even if that whatever is very boring and mundane lol )

jesterofinaba:
If they were playing with logic…? What on earth is that supposed to mean, that the reason he’s here doesn’t have any ties to logic at all? T
his makes the boy’s face scrunch up in confusion, brows furrowed in slight frustration. Everything had a logical answer to it. He might be a cynic about things, a word his father liked to call him, but it was true that there was a reason behind things.
Most of the time. And this should be one of those times, but his perfect explanation was just torn full of holes.
To add to his annoyed expression, Tohru pouts and crosses his arms, leaning towards Naoto-senpai.
“It’s Adachi!” he cries in response. “And if you’re so smart, you’d spare us both from having to fight about it and just tell me. It can’t be supernatural, that stuff doesn’t exist.
Tumblr media
And besides,” he adds, trying to puff himself up by sitting up straighter and puffing out his chest, “that’s not even my card.”
It was true. Tohru had been almost tempted to tell her it wasn’t his card and make up a spare if Naoto had chosen the right one, showing off his stubbornness because of the way she shot down his proud moment, but turns out he didn’t need to. For all her confidence, she needed to work on her magic tricks. Maybe she was like him and didn’t have a chance to show off to people or practice; just had to rely on the illustrations and directions from books.
“Or is this the kinda entertainment you do out in the sticks?”
He felt just brave enough to put a little sass in his responses, more than the smarter-than-everyone front he always puts up at school. Something about their banter made Tohru feel like he could be a little more cocky, a little more like himself.
She wags a finger back and forth, unperturbed by how he thinks he’s got her all figured out. Dad must’ve been lying when he said he wasn’t a sassy kid. Evidence says otherwise.
“That wouldn’t be any fun, Dachi-san. The fun part is figuring out how things work. I take it you aren’t the kind of kid who likes to take things apart in your free time.” Figuring out how individual pieces connect and form a cohesive picture has been nothing short of interesting.
Just like how she can’t help the smirk when he falls for the trick. Holding back her laughter would spare Dachi from having his pride be wounded, but she can’t help but laugh a little like a dramatic villain in a Saturday morning cartoon.
“And you’ve just fallen into my trap. I know exactly what your card is. All I need to do is count three cards down from this.” Naoto points at the jack of spades, then moves three down towards the left. At the third card, she removes it from the pile, taking a long, scrutinizing look at it.
“Yup, this is the one! Surprised you picked this guy.” With a flourish, she shows Dachi his card, the King of Diamonds. Five seconds later, she sets it down in front of him. “Don’t try to lie and say it isn’t your card, Dachi-san. You don’t want to fool a detective now, do you?” She smiles again, this time slipping in a bit of a threat into the mix.
Tumblr media
“I’m not fond of liars.” And Dojima is the biggest one of all.
Once Naoto is sure her point is clear, she shifts into an easygoing one and focuses on gathering the fanned cards into a stack and shuffling them.
“Whether or not you help out with breakfast is up to you, Dachi, but I have to get started soon. When you’re done admiring the card, give it to me so I can return the deck to my room, yeah?”

YOU GUYS! Okay so I just randomly decided to try using a deck of playing cards as tarot cards to start getting into that stuff and I did a reading on myself(it really called me out) and then one on Supernatural and this is the results:
Jack of spades- rebel, fight for a cause. It’s exactly what it sounds like.
Ace of diamonds-a win. I got big they’ll defeat god energy from this one
Queen of diamonds- motherhood. I got big Sam and Cas dad vibes from this one.
8 of spades- feeling trapped and powerless. Obviously bc they’re trying to fight God himself so they’re gonna feel powerless.
HERES THE KICKER: Ace of Spades- NEW INSIGHTS AND REALIZATIONS. GUYS GUYS WHAT IF THIS MEANS DESTIEL COMES TRUE!
Again this was the third reading I’ve ever done so it might not be accurate and I’m sure a bunch of y’all don’t believe in this stuff anyway, I just thought I’d share.

Me and my OCs:
This isn't just about my pokemon oc's. No no no no. This is my journey of me having 0 Oc's ( not knowing what they where back then) to having far too many for my own good.
It started back in middle school, where it was one if those rare creative writing periods. We rarely get those, so of course I was excited. This was also when I started reading a lot of fantasy books, specifically YA novels. So my imagination ran wild, and I created my first oc.
Her name was ViraBlue. Yes that sounds like a online profile. Yes, she was very edgy. Yes , I tried to write a very bad story for her. And no, I'm not going to go into it. The only thing I will go into, is that I thought it would be cool for her to have a team. A five man band if you will. Teen Titans was my favorite show at the time, and I was getting introduced to anime AND I was reading wattpad due to my friend who suggested it to me. So this was spelled for disaster. Though I will say I realized my passion for creative writing. Even if my own writing was terrible.
I'm going to skip over all middle school and a bit of highschool to just say that my Oc's evolved. For example, ViraBlue was no longer her name. As of now her name is Elora. Also, her and her team are no longer just white people. Elora is a wonderful black woman such as myself, and honestly I feel FAR more attached to her than I did before. Also when remaking my ocs to be more diverse( both in race and in body diversity),I learned Asian is a umbrella term, so it doesn't just mean China or Japan. It also means Thailand, India, the Philippines, and much more! It really opened my eyes a lot to the world around me actually.
So yeah, you'd think that'll be it, right? WRONG. Cause theres more! A lot more. So much more I'm gonna but it on bulletin notes :)
Somewhere between highschool and middle school, I was very interested the pokemon protagonist, in terms of what they were like as individuals.
Now I know that that's very weird, given the majority of the protagonists are blank slates l, but two things. 1) Hilda's design has so much attitude that I REFUSE to believe she's a blank slate( eventhough she is) and 2) sun and moon brought back and older Red, with his own semblance of personality. I was so happy when it was announced.
But after searching the internet, and realizing the chance of me getting my preteen hands on the manga were low
So I did the only reasonable thing and make my own oc for each game and have them replace the player character as the main protagonist. Every main series game. Except the Kanto ones. I....I've had enough of kanto. I might change my mind later.
I'm actually almost done! All I have to do is finish USUM, and play emerald and heartgold and I'll be done.
I was so invested in this that I made myself a ( linear) timeline to keep track of things, as well as trying to find characters ages as a reference. Oh my god, that was a lot.
Then they're was that sequel idea that I had for my first Oc's story( the one with Elora). I didn't even finish the first story! Let alone start writing!
It didn't help that the setting of the story was a full erease universe and a timeskip into the future away from the original story. No I will not elaborate.
The main character's name is an ( sun?) elf Imani and she's tall ( duh) and really likes her history and her friends.
I then realized that these two stories where very important to me,so it would be best to work on them more to flesh them out......
Until I made a new set of characters for a supernatural thing. I literally just made a person, her brother, her friends, her brothers friend, her brothers love interest, and the siblings moms that aren't always there because one of them is basically the grim reaper but not really abd the other help with purifing damaged souls or something like that. Mind you, I have no specific story for them, except they live in New York and do stuff. That's it.
Now would be a good time to say that all of my ocs are LGBTQ+, and I don't mean this as a flex. I say this because they honestly have helped me trying to find myself. I still don't know what I am, or if my feelings are real, but I do know that these characters made me appreciate the change of it all. Like Elora and her team where all straight white people, and while there is nothing wrong with that, the more I changed, they've changed as well. Elora is now asexual biromantic. Now that's not what I'll exactly call myself, but it's kinda close. I think. Idk. Not to mention that I'm now more aware of the world around me, and the struggles people face( even if I'm still learning)
Anyway back to ranting.
CHOICE. OF. GAMES
How dare they exploit my love for character creation and choose your own story games!
Honestly, besides my own characters, and some outside factors, Choice of games made me aware that men liking men is real, and so is women liking woman, and that non-binary people exist!
For granted, I still didn't understand it at the time, but in Wayhaven chronicles I choose the men and women option and didn't look back.( I only played the demo cause I have no money)
Then I started playing a lot of wips, and somehow made 4 characters that reflect 4 play styles that I personally like playing.
Eventually they became so big in there own that I thought " these are the type of ocs that I'll just mess around with. No overarching story, just a good ol time" and for once I stuck by it.
Though for some reason I gave them a theme of the deck of suits????( Like diamond, heart, spades and clover).
There's Jamie( diamond). They're the shyest of the bunch. A lot more withdrawn and tend to freak out a lot( like me!) Though when the time comes, they're quite possible the bravest in the room. They come from a rich family cause why not. They're omnisexaul.
Then there's Edric( heart). Friends( and enemies that he likes) call him Eddy. He's very flirty and down to have a good time. He wears what he wants and does it in ✨ style ✨. He can wear a clown suit and make it look sexy. He's asexual panromantic.
Min( spades) ! I got the name from playing Smoke and Velvet: The Gnawing Chronicles ( by @roast-ifs ) cause I was to lazy to come up with a name and it just stuck. For the most part she's more stoic than the rest. Not entirely an introvert, but not extroverted either. She's try's to keep her emotions to herself, which for the most part she's very successful at, but it can get hard when it comes to people she cares about ( both platonically and romantically). In another wip called Secrets of Swatheforn ( by @swatheford ) she's actively trying to NOT acknowledge her feeling for one of the ROs ( Cass) so that's fun. Min is a trans women, and is bisexual ( women and non-binary people)
The last one actually is the least developed out of all of them. I know that they're non-binary, and that they represent clover. I actually haven't played as them as much as say Jamie or Edric has. So yeah. They exist.
So that my very long oc journey. I don't except my creative mind to stop, but I really have to many. Sooooo yeah! That's all.
