NFL 2024 Wildcard Round Preview & Predictions
While I haven't posted any NFL blogs this season I have been sure to keep an eye on the happenings throughout the league, and we're finally in the part of the season that matters.
So lets dive in to the full plate of nuggets and preview this weekend's games.
1. Detroit Lions vs Los Angeles Rams
Of all the games that will be played on this weekend, this one has the most storylines and subplots.
Starting with quarterbacks who traded places 3 years ago and now face off. Fortunately, this matchup will likely be decided by more than just the quarterbacks.
The Rams appear to have found a remedy to thier run game through Kyren Williams, who is 3rd in total rushing yards, and in contrast the Lions have a more balanced attack with David Montgomerry leading their run game and Amon-Ra St. Brown leading thier pass catchers.
This is a situation where I am opting to pick with my head over my heart, and while I'll actually be rooting for the Lions to win the game because thier story in 2023 has been phenomenal, I am going to pick the Rams and Sean McVay to win in Detroit and upset the team with a better record.
MY PICK: Rams Win 27-24
2. Tampa Bay Buccanneers vs Philadelphia Eagles
I am in a state of near-catastrohic horror at what has happened to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023.
What started out as a promising season and Philly repeatedly executing the greatest play ever executed in NFL history, has turned into a late season collapse that started with that really bad loss to the 9ers in week 13.
Thier defensive back issues have now spiralled in to a team that leak points so badly, they lost to the New York Giants in week 17, and it's crept it's way on to the offense, and the Eagles were shutout and put up 0 points.
Then you have to factor in Philly's history against Tampa Bay itself. Flashbacks to 2002 when Gruden's defensive juggernauts domniated Donovan McNabb and the Eagles, as well as the more recent 15-31 demolition at the hands of Tom Brady's Buccaneers in the 2021 playoffs.
I will say this, I am glad that Bruce Arians isn't calling plays in Tampa because he'd air it out on these Philly db's.
My biggest concern though, is that Jalen Hurts has 9 fumbles this season and Tampa safety Antoine Winfield, is joint-leader in forced fumbles with 6, and Tampa have been good at that as a team with 18 on the season.
I'll pick the Eagles to win here, only because I still think the Eagles offense has some life left in it and I am a Jalen Hurts believer.
MY PICK: Eagles Win 21-16
3. Kansas City Chiefs vs Miami Dolphins
Honestly, I don't root for the FIns and I don't even enjoy watching them play neccessarily, but I do enjoy the schadenfreud of watching Tua Tagovailoa, lead the league in passing yards and quarterback a team in the playoffs.
The Chiefs are different story and to be honest with I have enjoyed watching the Chiefs more this year, than any other season of the Mahomes era, at times it's been kind of comical.
The Dolphins are dealing with a bunch of injuries. Jaylen Waddle, Bradley Chubb, Xavien Howard, Raheem Mostert were all out in week 18 and likely in the Wildcard round too.
The Chiefs have to like thier chances and thier recievers can breath a little bit easier, knowing the Dolphins won't be thier usual high-scoring selves. I fully expect the Chief's recievers to drop passes, but this particular opponent can't make them pay them when they do it on 3rd down.
The only issue I see, is Kansas City are not a high scoring team in thier own right either, and while the Fins'injuries are worse.
I want the Fins to win but their too injured and will likely lose a close low scoring game in Arrowhead on Tyreke Hill's return.
MY PICK: Chiefs win 21-17
4. Buffalo Bills vs Pittsburgh Steelers
I honestly think that the Pitburgh Steelers are doing is winning games via witchcraft because just as recenty as week 14, the entire state of Pennsylvania wanted him fired.
The Bills for thier part, started the first 10 weeks of the season with a 5-5 record and have since ripped off a 6 game winning streak that sees them in the 2 seed.
The Steelers offense sputtered badly midway through the season, but since week 16 and putting Mason Rudolph on the field, things have been looking up.
It sucks that TJ Watt won't play, he leads the league in sacks and that matters because the Bills are the best team in 3rd down percentage this season with 49%.
Buffalo finally appear to have found some balance between Josh Allen heroics and establishing the run. To make matters worse, Buffalo also rank as one of the best pass defenses in the league, ranking 7th in opponent passing yards.
What this comes down to, is that the Bills have Josh Allen and the Steelers are quarterbacked by Mason Rudolph, and in contrast to most of the weekend's games, you can't convince me that the favorite isn't winning this.
MY PICK: Bills Win 28-16
5. Cleveland Browns vs Houston Texans
The Browns have been my guilty pleasure all season long, and those sideline-to-sideline videos on thier Youtube channel are honestly awesome.
A team whose defense has been lead by Myles Garret, and has had to find thier identity on the offensive side of the ball becasue of injures to 3 different quarterbacks this season, and while I don't love Kevin Stefanksi's play calling, he does deserve credit for the circumstance he was in this year and how his team kept winning.
The Houston Texans have undergone a rejuvenation in thier own right with newly drafted CJ Stroud under center.
While Deshaun Watson will have to watch his current and former teams from the sidelines as a result of a shoulder injury, Joe Flacco will quarterback the Browns and has since week 14, and with him has come a new confidence to the Browns' offense.
I'll gladly take the Browns and thier newly minted Joe Flacco offense, alongside the best defense in the NFL to win this one.
MY PICK: Browns Win 27-20
6. Dallas Cowboys vs Greenbay Packers
The Packers are in a unique position because of how quickly they've gotten back to playoff contention.
I get that Jordan Love has been given the mantle as appears to have been the plan since he was drafted, and I don't know what to make of him getting the Packers to the playoffs in his first season. It's kind of unreal that the Packers got over Aaron Rodgers this quickly, add to that Love isn't the finished article yet.
The other major storyline is Cowboys head coach, Mike McCarthy playing host to his former team and that will surely dominate the headlines and previews going in to the weekend.
Dak Prescott leads the league in passes completed, as well as passing touchdowns, and CeeDee Lamb leads the league in passes caught.
Plus I like the idea of Dallas' defense against a young quarterback, playing in thier home building and Dallas corner DaRon Bland leads the league in interceptions.
I'm picking Dallas to win, but beware because anyone who picks the underdog is not crazy. Jordan Love is completing 64% of his passes and the sneaky Packers, always seem to come up with something from special teams through Keisean Nixon.
MY PICK: Cowboys win 34-27

"It's easy to base success on results, but I think that concept is mistaken. Above all, what is most satisfying is how I will remember all of those fans, all of the people who encouraged me, who supported me during my moments, good and bad, and who often kept me from throwing in the towel." - Dani Pedrosa

💜💜💜💜💜
hello lovely, thank you for the help! been super productive on my trip/tpol fic and soooo excited about it today<3
another angsty snippet from show me:
Trip’s shoulders sank in relief when he finally caught a glimpse of her, T’pol was in his cell, sitting a meter or so away with her chin tucked over her knees. Praying–no, meditating. Whatever it is Vulcans do when they’re in distress and all hope was lost.
ooh thanks for the wildcard sentence challenge!!! I picked a rarepair fic I've been posting lately (not ENT fandom, sorry!) called burnin' through my darkest nights
here's the latest bit:
“See you later?” A question with hidden meaning beneath it. Chrissy wanted to know if he would come to their spot in the woods before bed. He guessed he’d find out then how it went with with Jason, maybe it’d be disastrous and he’d get a second shot at confessing his feelings. A pang of guilt struck him, and he swept the unkind thoughts to the distant corners of his mind.
thank you for helping me reach my wc goals this weekend <3

In Week 9, the Bengals take on the Las Vegas Raiders at home. The last time they took each other on was in the 2021 Wildcard Weekend, where the Bengals won 26-19 to end their 30-year playoff win drought. They then progressed to the Super Bowl.
As of writing this, RB Zack Moss is confirmed to be out for today's game. Safety Geno Stone and WR Charlie Jones are questionable whilst OT Orlando Brown Jr and Tee Higgins are doubtful. Brown Jr's possible absence leaves Joe Burrow more open to the threat of Raider's DE Maxx Crosby.
Hopefully, the Bengals can bounce back after their disappointing performance last week and secure a win before the season fully slips away from them.
Who dey! 🖤🧡

Finlandia Trophy Preview
Men - My Predicted Top 6 (in no particular order)
Kevin Aymoz (France) - He made his big comeback at Skate America when he earned the silver medal but based on the consistency issues he’s had the past year he’s still very much a wildcard. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
Daniel Grassl (Italy) - I think many people found it surprising that he ended up in the silver medal position at NHK last week. Competing back to back is definitely a challenge, so we’ll see if he’ll be able to get his quads all the way around this week.
Kazuki Tomono (Japan) - Got 5th place in Grand Prix de France, so consistency will be key heading into this competition. He is coming back from an injury so hopefully he is feeling good physically. He’s an excellent performer with some interesting programs so I looking forward to seeing him compete.
Sota Yamamoto (Japan) - I wanted him on the podium so badly at Skate Canada so hopefully he’ll be on the podium here! I love both of his programs. His only mistake in Canada was going down on the 4T in the free. He also needs to work on not telegraphing his jumps as much.
Yuma Kagiyama (Japan) - Our NHK gold medalist! He reached the 300 point mark despite the fact that he went down on his 4F in the free. This will be his competition to lose, but I feel very confident in Yuma’s ability.
Junhwan Cha (South Korea) - Made it onto the podium at Skate Canada and he’ll be looking to do it again here. I didn’t really vibe with either one of his programs but maybe they’ll grow on me a bit more the second time around. He is the literal love of my of my life.
Women - My Predicted Top 6 (in no particular order)
Niina Petrokina (Estonia) - Last week she made a big mistake in the short when she accidentally did two combos, and she fell during her stsq in the free. Hopefully she’ll be able to leave those mistakes in the past and bring out a better performance this week.
Lara Naki Gutmann (Italy) - Last week was the best I’ve seen her perform in a while. Her only big mistake was doubling her 3F in the free. She is the creepy queen and I’m so excited to watch her this weekend!
Hana Yoshida (Japan) - It feels like it’s been a million years since I last saw her compete at Skate Canada. As long as she stays consistent she has an excellent shot at making the podium.
Mai Mihara (Japan) - She’s coming back from an injury so the start of her season has been a little slow. Hopefully she’ll be able to improve upon her performance from Grand Prix de France.
Rino Matsuike (Japan) - Her free skate was the highlight of Skate Canada but hopefully she’ll be able to put down two clean performances so she won’t have to make the jump from 10th to 2nd.
Sarah Everhardt (USA) - Her strengths lie with the technical elements so I would love to see some more emotion from her this weekend. As long as she does what she’s been doing all season she has a good chance at the podium. I am obsessed with the Firebird program.
Happy to be back in a European time zone this weekend since pretending like I was in Japan was rough last week. I cannot believe that Grand Prix series is almost over! Happy watching and I hope everyone has a super Finlandia Trophy weekend!

@indynerdgirl requested: numbers 2, 10, and 72 from the random prompts list (so sorry this took me so long to get to love)
|| prompt list ||
prompts: "Wait a minute. Are you jealous?" + "I've seen the way you look at me when you think I don't notice." + "You were put on this earth to give me a headache."
au: nfl
word count: 2183
warnings: drinking, jake being a little shit, some smooching and heavy petting, ronnie has a praise kink and that's just facts
In the 2020 season, the Indianapolis Colts didn’t make it past Wildcard Weekend. Which was disappointing, obviously; but it only added fuel to the fire to perform even better next season and make it all the way to that coveted title of Super Bowl Champion. For now, though, the team was packed into the quarterback's house in order to watch those two teams that did make it all the way duke it out on live TV.
The Rams versus the Bengals. Most of the Colts were rooting for that Cincinnati team. Something about AFC teams needing to stick together. At least it wasn’t the fucking Patriots again.
One of the party goers, and Bengals supporters, included new Tight Ends Coach Ronnie Bradshaw.
She had only been with the team the last few weeks of the season, but she fit in like she had always been there. A Hoosier born and raised, and the daughter of Nick Bradshaw, a famous NFL wide receiver himself, Ronnie had been around football her entire life. She not only knows the game inside and out, but even played it herself when she could. She brought something new and fresh to the team that hadn’t been there in a long time. Everyone could see it. The players, the other coaches, the sport’s greatest critics. Ronnie seemed made for the Colts’ offensive coaching staff — and maybe she was just the breath of fresh air they needed to get them that title they so craved.
“Gotta admit though, Joe Burrow is a little cutie,” Ronnie commented as she sipped on her White Claw.
The party was too big for everyone to be in one room, and she ended up on the main floor living room. Sitting cross legged on the couch with a few of the players’ girlfriends and wives. Two lucky guys got the armchairs, but most who decided to watch in that room were sitting on the floor, backs leaning against the couch.
Including tight end Jake Seresin. Who just so happened to be sitting right in front of his new coach.
He turned to look up at her with a smirk. “Is that a bit of a crush I hear, Coach?”
“Sure,” she laughed, a slight blush tinting her cheeks at the thought. “Cincy’s not too far. We could make it work.”
The WAG sitting next to her asked a question about Burrow’s career, and Ronnie provided the information with ease. But out of the corner of her eyes, she saw Seresin’s face sour. Clearly her answer wasn’t the one he was looking for. Though she was unsure what answer he would want from her.
Now that the season was over, her interactions with Seresin had been…off. She really couldn’t put a finger on it. He had always been flirty. And as player and coach there was a mutual respect lining the jokes and teasing they often shared. But lately, whenever she turned his flirty remarks into jokes at his expense, he didn’t give anything back. He didn’t laugh. He almost seemed…hurt by it. His smile less genuine and the yes…and-ing cut off abruptly.
The game went to commercial break, and Ronnie’s White Claw was empty. Taking the opportunity, she got up from the couch for a refill. She never really cared about the commercials anyway. They hadn’t been funny since she was a kid.
Throwing her empty can into the recycling, she got a plastic cup and began filling it with water from the fridge. She still had to drive home later, after all. She was thankful for the quiet in the kitchen. There was no one else in there, but distantly she could hear the muffled sounds of laughter and jeering. It made her smile. This team was closer than most she worked with, and so far there’d been no talk of trades or free agency. It was a dream team, they all knew it, they just had to find their spark. And Ronnie hoped she could help them.
“Thinkin’ about that Burrow kid again, Coach?” Seresin asked as he walked into the kitchen.
Ronnie jumped. Jesus, she didn’t even hear him coming. For such a big guy, he would be very stealthy.
She rolled her eyes, pulling her full cup from the fridge door. “And what if I was?”
“I’d have to call you a cougar, I think,” he replied as he picked through the snacks laid out on the kitchen island.
“Hilarious.” Ronnie leaned back against the counter beside him. “I’m not that much older than him. We could still make it work.”
“Whatever,” he grumbled before tossing a jalapeno popper into his mouth.
All she could do was stare up at his profile for a moment. At the bulging muscle in his jaw as he chewed with a bit more force than necessary and the unreadable look in his green eyes.
It came as no surprise to her when Jake Seresin was just as pretty as the photos and videos implied. Because that’s what he was: pretty. He had a face like something out of old Hollywood. It made no sense when paired with his perfect Tight End physique. It made him too good to be true in some ways. What was even worse was that he knew it too. Used it to his advantage in nearly every city they travelled to. But even his reputation and his smug awareness didn’t stop her from thinking about him from time to time. And definitely not in a way a coach should think about one of their players.
Seresin glanced down at her as he put another jalapeno popper in his mouth. And it clicked. Green wasn’t just the color in his eyes right now.
“Wait a minute. Are you jealous?” she questioned, teasing and quiet, as she smirked up at him.
“Of Joe Burrow? Absolutely not,” he answered just a little too quickly, hands coming to rest on the island.
“Oh, my God, you totally are,” she laughed.
He glared down at her. “Why would I be jealous?”
“‘Cause I said I think he’s cute and not you,” she explained, her smirk only growing as she watched his jaw tick to one side.
A sure sign he was getting frustrated and a sure sign she was right. A thrill went up her spine at the thought. That maybe there was something more going on besides the off season and him wanting to distance himself. Because that was the opposite of what she wanted, deep in some secret part of her heart that housed everything else she knew was wrong but desired anyway.
“Well do you?” he questioned suddenly, turning completely to face her with his hip against the counter.
It threw her off balance as she gazed up at him. “Do I what?”
“Think I’m cute.”
“You’re avoiding the question,” she said with a shake of her head, looking down at her socks as heat filled her cheeks.
“So are you.”
“I asked mine first.”
“Mine is more relevant.”
“Jesus Christ,” she groaned, rubbing at her temple. “Were you put on this earth to give me a headache?”
“New question — negates your previous one.” He grinned impishly at her and she huffed.
The chatter died down in the other parts of the house. The game must be back on. People would start to wonder where they were. Ronnie pushed away from the counter and away from Seresin.
“Fine. Don’t give me an answer. I can live without it,” she said, even though it wasn’t true.
She wanted to know. She wanted to know if he was jealous of some other football player just because she thought he was attractive. She wanted to know if he felt even an iota of what she felt whenever she was around him. Like electricity, like a forest fire — like something powerful but devastating. But it was clear from his teasing that he wasn’t actually jealous, he didn’t feel anything. And she was making a fool of herself. Them having a relationship, even a casual one, was probably off limits anyway. A good way for her to get fired before her career even really got the chance to begin.
With every intention of going back to the living room and finishing watching the third quarter, and trying to forget this disastrous conversation, Ronnie took a step away from Seresin.
But then she felt one big hand encompass her wrist, and in an instant she was spun back around to face him again. His expression was unreadable as he pulled her in close. And she went willingly, no fight and no resistance as she drifted into his orbit. About to crash. Eventually, she was nearly chest to chest with him, and her water was taken out of her hands. Set down on the counter behind him.
“So what if I’m jealous?” he asked quietly, voice rumbling in his chest as his fingers slid down to hold her hand instead.
“New question — negates your previous one,” Ronnie breathed back, overwhelmed but not feeling nearly enough.
He laughed with a shake of his head. “You drive me insane.”
She shrugged, trying to keep her cool in the face of his proximity and the feeling of his fingers playing with her own. “Feeling’s mutual.”
“But I’ve seen the way you look at me when you think I don’t notice,” he said, voice dropped an octave as he pulled her even closer, between his spread legs as he leaned back against the island.
“Like you haven’t looked at me the same way, Seresin,” she scoffed quietly.
“So the feeling’s mutual, then.” He smirked, his other hand coming up to cup her cheek.
He was so close now. She could feel his breath, jalapenos and beer, fanning her face. There was no buzz, no fogged brain. Her mind was clear. White Claws be damned. She knew the risks. Knew it was probably a mistake. But in that moment she couldn’t bring herself to care. All of her life she had done the right thing — and maybe she deserved an indulgence. He was there, this had been building for weeks, and a girl had needs. Needs that she very much wanted Jake Seresin to fill.
“Guess so,” she whispered, glancing down at his parted lips.
Seresin looked at her for a moment more, expression all heat and desire, before he muttered fuck it and dove into her. His kiss was insistent, hungry, rough. He instantly pried her lips open with his tongue and pushed his way inside. It felt like a claiming as he tilted her head just the way he wanted and licked into her mouth. It was the kind of kiss that made her dizzy, that made her want more and more. She kissed him back with just as much ferocity, hands fisting his crewneck as she twirled her tongue around his own.
When he finally drank his fill of her, he pulled away with his teeth sunk into her bottom lip. A soft moan slipped out of her at the sting. He released the swollen, pink flesh with a grin.
“You like when it hurts a little, Coach?” he questioned.
All she could do was groan in response as she wrapped her arms around his neck and dragged him down into another kiss. Seresin chuckled against her lips, but it quickly dissolved into a grunt when she pressed her hips flush against his own. His hands grabbed, searched, explored. Up and down her back. Over her ass, her thighs. Into her long dark hair that was actually down for once. Ronnie’s heart raced at what this could mean. Where it could go. But underneath that she knew it was the thrill of doing something she shouldn’t for once in her life — and getting caught in the quarterback’s kitchen. Anyone could walk in. Anyone could see his tongue shoved down her throat and her fingers clawing into the back of his neck.
Jake pulled away first again, panting for breath as he leaned to whisper in her ear, “What do you say we finish watching the game…Then you and me head out early? Hmm? Go back to your place?”
She shouldn’t. She really shouldn’t. She was his coach, he was one of her players.
But an answer was coming out of her mouth before she could be more rational about it: “Yes…Please.”
“Good girl.”
Ronnie felt her breath hitch, her toes curl, at his praise. And from the smug smirk on his face, he knew that she liked it. Jake let her go with one last kiss and her water pressed back into her hand. Then she turned and went back to the living room, trying to get control of her shaking legs and the heat filling her cheeks.
Sitting back down on the couch, she noticed the game was on another commercial break.
“Jesus, Coach, where you been? You missed nearly the entire third quarter! Rams are up by three,” Garcia filled her in and she nodded, mind still reeling.
“You seen Jake?” Machado asked.
She shook her head. “No. Haven’t seen him.”

Watkins Glen 2024
I was sad to not be there in person, since Watkins Glen is my local track, but with work and work deadlines as they are this month, I just couldn't. My next weekend/day off is in mid-October, and YES, I am counting down. It was still cool to be so intimately familiar with the layout of the track, though, having both driven and bicycled the track this year. <333
I also think it's SUPER cute they repainted all the rumble strips NASCAR flag colors. Normally they're just red and yellow, without the blue!
LOOK AT THEM. SO CUTE. SO PRIMARY.
As to the race itself: I am a BUNDLE OF NERVES this Round of 16 because every track is such a wildcard. And rightly so, from Lap 1!!!! The carnage was immediate (oof) and the intensity never let up (amazing but also I passed away 17 times). Considering what *happened* to everyone I'm surprised the points are still so close (and so healthy, for people like Reddick, WB, and Blaney [to still be P8 in the playoffs despite running approximately 1 minute of this 2.5-hour race??]). And considering the state of the 11 and how deeply P34 he was all day, -6 is a blessing, too, to be honest.
Xfinity murdered 100% of the Kyles (Sieg and Weatherman), so I'm glad that Cup only murdered 50% of the Kyles (though KyBu did manage to get murdered twice). For the 5 today, I was hoping for an uneventful mid-pack finish and was actually gifted an eventful but non-deleterious mid-pack finish, so that was great. He was all over the field all day, which was fun to watch--working up to P8 from P20, then to the back, and further back, and a fun joust with Zane Smith and Joey. All over the track and all over the leaderboard, really working for it. He was out for blood with Zane, lol.
And the finish was badass, ngl. I have not yet recovered from witnessing, in person, back-to-back Buescher and McDowell wins last year, but this was still very cool for Buescher. Hats off to SVG as well.
The specter of Bristol? And weird tire Bristol (which I'd forgotten about from spring)??? Terrifying.

F1 academy's second wild card driver: Courtney Crone. Who is she?
Wildcard entries are basically one driver from each race country, who get to race in F1 academy for the weekend. In Miami, the honor goes to Californian Courtney Crone who will race in car 77, supported by QVC.
She's 23 and has raced sportscars for the last 4 years, although she did race single-seaters before that, as well as speedway motorcycles. Some notable achievements of hers are winning the IMSA Diverse Driver Development Scholarship (2022/23), the Gorsline Company Scholarship (2021) and the Formula Speed Scholarship. She was also a nominee for the Team USA Scholarship and W Series.
She currently competes in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo NA.
The series will no doubt kickstart her return to single-seaters, as well as give her an entry into more international motorsports.
Best of luck to her this weekend!!

before coming back to school i spent a day in NYC with my mom and we had mediterranean-style food at a cafe that was SO good, ive never had such good tomato soup and falafel. 10/10. (it's called bite and it's on west 22nd and 6th ave if people are interested)
we went on a nice lil stroll and ended up at a sculpture and adjacent-art supply store which was super super cool

im also counting my workout efforts as walking around. im gonna get so buff. muscles that i didn't even know existed are sore.
the bf stayed with me for a week which was so nice. he made kimchi soup and it is so healing, and he made gyudon twice...he cooked dinner a lot now that im thinking about it oops. he also drank an entire gallon of milk and ate two dozen eggs while he was here. egg boy (affectionate)
