My palms and fingers do reek of gasoline.

'Dying is overrated. Do it enough times and you start to realize that.

Stab, shoot, starve, suffocate, burn me at the stake, they’ve tried it all. It never works. Maybe they should stop trying. Maybe I should stop pissing them off.

Right now, a bunch of drunk, overzealous tavern patrons decided that my loudmouth bashing of that ever good and noble piss poor cuck of a king Malvic the III is worth killing me.

Maybe it is. I don't know, I'm not one for politics. All I know is he's a fool and he's queen's a self important bitch and probably a traitor. But I guess when you speak up loud someone's bound to take issue.

'It's not gonna work,' I offer lazily as they drag me by my arms out to the river behind the tavern.

'Shut up, ye biitch! Ho-' the man cuts himself off with a loud hiccup. It's disgusting. 'Dare you insult his majesty Malvic the Great!' He slurs. I don't have it in me to correct him that I insulted Malvic the III, current king of Ithwily. Malvic the Great reigned 300 years ago, and I would never insult anything about him except maybe his thrice-cursed singing voice.

I shrug as best I can while being dragged from my underarms. 'It ain't my fault his wife beds anyone but him,' I say. That earns me a quick kick to the stomach from a rather burly woman. I... probably deserved that one, I won't lie.

'Get it over with then!' Another man shouts to the two dragging me. I'm off a mind with him, I want this damned deal over with quick.

Maybe I should've kept my mouth shut. Maybe I should've brought a friend with me.

Or maybe... I should end this hear.

'Yes, lets,' I agree.

The man who shouted scoffs. I look up at him. The man is... well, ugly is being to nice. His arms are to long for his body, his face is pockmarked by burn scars, and he's got a twisting tattoo running up his face. A Flame Stamper. Of course, they're Firebird hunters. That would explain the burns. And why they're so quick to violence.

'Right then Erizic, toss 'er in. Drown the hare!' The burnt man shouts to the one who got the king's name wrong.

God, I hate 'Drown the Hare'. I mean, who makes a game for children about drowning a rabbit for dinner..? I quite like not drowning. In fact, I awful hate drowning, it takes days to get the taste of river water out of your mouth, and the water always gets in my ears, it's a whole awful deal.

The men holding my arms pull me up, moving to throw me over the lip of the path.

Might as well end it now then, eh?

'KISRIîN'

Flames ignite, crackling along my arms up to my oh-so-smart would-be assailants.

Simple flash spell, won't do much more than spook them but it's always a nice enough trick to get out of a bad situation.

They drop me, and I go tumbling into the river.

Damn, I was hoping to avoid that. Ah well, if I stay down here a bit they'll leave and I can call Jax to get us home.

Whatever, I'll deal with the river. Not like I'll drown anywa-

One of them falls in next to me, paniking at the flash flames still on his arms. Idiot. Adding water to the components makes the spell as Kasrîn. The damn fool just actually lit himself on fire.

I push out, my boot strike him in the chest. I can hear the bone crunch. He's dead on the hit. Must've already been injured. Or maybe the Kasrîn weakened him.

I won't cry over a Flame Stamper, world's better with all of them dead anyways.

I can still hear their screaming from the water. And... screeching. Ajax ignored my orders and came to find me anyways. Damn bird.

I kick off the bottom of the river, hand breaking the waves. She grabs it in her talons, pulling me out. Good. If she's gonna disobey she can at least be helpful.

She tosses me up, rolling over in the air so I can catch the grasp of the saddle, lets me pull up into the saddle proper.

Damn gryphons, always show-offs. Could've just dipped to the side so I could grab the saddle edge in the water.

Ajax circles the gang of Flame Stampers. She wants me to stop the flash before someone else dies. Probably for the best.

'Rinkis' Extinguish.

And we're off, back to Rameed before anyone thinks to follow."

"GAMBLER THE LAST," Abrina shouts from the office, her furious voice shaking the bones of the building. "THIS IS NOT A MISSION REPORT!"
