Somethin'.

How weird is it that the thought makes him want to laugh right now. Even amidst tame winds, a calm sunset, just all these details to promote a sense of leisure. Somehow, having the scale of what he's come to fast being drawn to that word snaps a sense of levity in Sora. In the midst of that flowing emotion comes a question, how much the rapids of the Heart never let a thought settle.

Just what kind of look was he making at the time? It leaves him concerned, if only for his appearances before an unsure glance tilts towards Selphie. There was a sharp haze in those eyes, as if the idea of people learning in deeper detail of his annihilation, his restructuring, so much unbelievable details felt simply unfitting in such a moment.

Sora hadn't even realized the laughter that wrenched free was a touch bitter.

HIs gloved hands found themselves pinned upon the railing overlooking a cityscape below. "I--" Hurt? Endured? Triumphed?

"Got a lot more than I bargained for, that's all."

That sounds normal, right? Even in the fields of the supernatural they'd tear strides through, that wouldn't hint that death managed to strangle not only himself, but so many precious things he loved in life a touch too much.

Why in the Worlds would he want to bring the scale of a Keyblade War into her scope of knowledge? For a moment, his strength of will didn't need to burn all sense of that floating sensation away. Despite its warped appearance, how it writhes and feeds upon failures and haunting images all the same, that feeling of his terror was freely experienced without Courage to smother it.

Maybe everyone that hailed from Destiny Islands witnessed it one way or another. Despite the miracle of Sora being the same, he's also witnessed untold terrors, his mind has been stretched to questions and sight that blend a morbid sense of wonder with the squirming fright against it all.

Courage, after all could not exist without fear.

A pitiable smile settles upon his lips before canting his gaze to her. At the end of it all, he knew he was a sucky liar when it really mattered.

"I've seen one of my Nightmares come to life."

"I'm fine, really!" Quistis wasn't exactly used to being looked out for, that compulsive need to be the big sister figure to everyone often made it so that she was the one looking out for others, being on the receiving end was always a strange feeling.

She wasn't exactly on her A-game today, forgot to junction any healing spells, used up her last potion on a teammate, and then took a hit like this. She'd tried to hide it, but there was only so much she could cover when part of her vest began to stain a crimson hue and start dripping.

Stumbling slightly, she almost instinctively latched onto Selphie for support. "O-Okay, maybe I do need to sit down for a minute."

It’s a trust he wouldn’t betray. Then came her question, whether or not pictures physically scratch the faces of LOVED ONES in pictures. “Not, regularly but there yureis we call Onryos and they have the power to warp and distort faces in pictures. “I’d take a guess and say it happened whenever the person was alive.” Her other question was interesting, but he couldn’t exactly answer it. “Let’s see..” Yusuke took his phone out, and began looking up the victim’s name: Yashiro Shimazu. He’s gone through social media to find him and of course he’d found the victim there..there are three people that shared the last name: Yumi, Goro, and a Shunei. “His parents and a little brother..cording to this both the parents died but the younger brother’s still kickin’. This place’ cold for now because I thought we could have found somethin’..maybe we should pay the family friend that gave me the heads up in the first place. There’s probably a story here..not t’ mention you have a good idea to ask people around some questions.”

Usually, Yusuke’s own presence was enough to stir the wrath of vengeful spirits..however this time the yurei remained calm..the area smelled..and the temperature a little on the cool side but NOTHING TO SUGGEST a demonic presence.

"What, you don't usually bring girls to creepy spooky haunted houses with dangerous ghosty creatures hangin' around to impress them?" She teased right back, unable to hold back a small snicker despite what should have been rather serious circumstances. "I was curious, I guess. Can't say I've ever been to a place like this, where there's clearly somethin' more sinister lurking about. Plus, you're here, and I at least trust you enough to know I'll probably walk outta this alive."

Selphie leaned over to look at the photo as Yusuke held it out, humming in thought. "Poor kid. Do those evil spirits of yours usually scratch out faces in pictures? Weird that they didn't do all of 'em." Or maybe it was one of those clues that needed to be kept in mind; who could say. Either way, yet another thing to commit to memory: no obvious weapon, odd body placement, faces scratched out in photos, a cold chill, and the occasional creepy noise from somewhere else in the house...

Surely no officer could step into this situation and claim it was a simple open-and-shut case.

"Weeell, using my 'I watch too many detective shows on TV' skills... D'you know if any of the other people in those photos would be around, or..." A little pause to gesture at the poor body at the bottom of the stairs as she carefully scooted past to start up to the second floor. "Would he be the only one we'd find in here?"

This may come as a shock to you all, but I'm not into macdennis anymore. I am, however, very into Nathan Explosion from Metalocalypse cucking Mac by stealing his man. You might be asking yourself, "Why the hell do you even ship this, Nekomaidennis?" because these two are a match made in heaven. Dennis is like every girl Nathan has ever dated, except he's a boy. Is this the world's most ambitious crossover? Or am I simply correct?

Something happened to the demon, it had lost its voice somehow. It spoke..chanted but they were mere whispers, as if there was an unseen force that kept her cantations concealed from their ears. It gave Yusuke the opportunity they were hoping for, tch to think she had something LIKE THAT in her bag of tricks and she waits until now to flush it out. Truly, this fight would have ended long before it even started.

For all the victims this damned demon had consumed, or even used in its wicked spells, it was going to suffer those crimes ten-fold.  ❝   𝐎𝐡 𝐲𝐚 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞.   ❞  The man utters and charges forward, an aura surrounding his fists that collides with the demon repeatedly in rapid succession. Finally, the tide of the battle was pushed in their favor, with that little momentum Yusuke pushed forward with one punch after the other until he lands one more across its cheek and sent it flying.

Its body crashes against the wall, neck twisting farther back than it should as the yokai was left on the ground unresponsive..enough time for Yusuke to wince in his pain before falling back onto one more knee and clutching his shoulder. “I think..we did it..”

The positive outlook of the words she had spoken didn't exactly match the way she currently felt, doubled over to catch her breath and pausing to wipe a small streak of crimson from the corner of her mouth. The whole situation looked bad, like they were backed into a corner and running out of options, with the tide of the battle seeming to favor the demon standing tall across the way, practically untouched.

And now taunting them, it seemed, although Selphie opted not to quip back at her statement, instead trying to find a weak point to exploit.

Dealing with demons was more Yusuke's department, and truth be told, she wasn't entirely sure how useful her arsenal of magic would be. But considering their current predicament, there really wasn't anything else that seemed to be working, and Selphie shot a glance in his direction when he voiced his suggestion.

"I can try. Not like I have any better ideas." She murmured back with a nod, inhaling deeply and straightening back up once more. There were plenty of spells she could cast, but Yusuke's wording was taken almost literally as the first option; she took a couple steps away from him to give her room to swing her weapon and catch it, her eyes firmly on the demon.

"Silence!" She called as she held both batons aloft in her casting stance, sending the Silence spell straight at their enemy with no hesitation, even if she was partially worried it might bounce right off.

The risk was worth the try, though; at the very least, she might be able to lock their enemy's store of magic away for enough time to let Yusuke actually deal her considerable damage. If not...there were a few other options she had brewing to sling at their enemy.

(while writing i've realized some ocs have...very little lore i have vocalized on tumblr, so this ended up very, very long. i would appreciate it if you gave it all a read though! i explained a lot of unexplained lore here)

Three Pillars bathing in Sunshine is a lizard that made its way to upper part of CM's can and was ADORED by her when she accidentally ended up in her puppet room. Sunny ends up a messenger although lime lizards are not the best at climbing, making it challenging for her to reach for the main recipient - Eclipse of Sunrise.

unlike her creators, Eclipse of Sunrise was always fond of Celestial Magnificence. having knowledge of what she was like in her prime time, before she herself was built, makes EOS extremely bitter about not being able to witness her in her full glory. she is the whole reason the shade was thrown onto CM and the least she could do was create a strong bond with her.

Eleven Stars Bringing Dawn is a slugcat created by EOS for this entire purpose! it usually just chills on top of Eclipse. its special coat stores and produces light in the dark environment, making it slightly easier to go through the pitch black areas under its iterator's can.

The Timejumper is a slugcat with a supernatural ability to return to their previous cycle to benefit in current one, which proves itself useful in the unstable environment some of the Gardens have turned into.

they were initially an Ancient, bound by karma and confused about others' desire to ascend. the fear of being left behind forced them to try to ascend despite the stories of those who were left as echoes of the past. and, to their surprise, nothing that terrifying happened, except they did not escape the great cycle, no. they were reincarnated into a small slugcat, forced to survive with knowledge the world would not let them go away.

at first, they had a decent memory of their knowledge and even could recreate their craft as a small critter. but as time went on, as they tried ascending again and failed every time, their memories become foggier. in the Blizzard era, they cannot even remember who kept them bound for so long.

after their final ascension, they get completely reborn as a slugcat named Yeek with full amnesia and their own adventures, in a world state based on Reclaiming Entropy mod!

Bells is GTH's favourite thing ever though! The Pursuer is a carnivorous slugcat that took features of centipedes in development. They are the oldest one in the Blooming Terrarium. Lantern is a young slugcat who chose to befriend the threat and share brain cells with a blue lizard! they are now inseparable! Coal was actually initially levzee's sona's slugpup from 'adopt a slugpup' event, but Good Things Happen now takes care of him. maybe one day they'll reunite, maybe not.

Grasshopper is seen by other scavengers as a very reliable friend! she is the only one to witness Artificer's slaughter unfold right before her eyes. she still wonders why the crimson raging slugcat only shot a glance at her and never enacted her rage onto her. Leap and Collector are siblings that were a little too young to remember what exactly happened that day, but they are very aware of the tragedy as they were taken outside the city because of it and Grasshopper doesn't let them forget what brought them to wilderness.

Flashdrive and their iterator do not care though! she's committed to the goal. well, except for some times where their own desires overtake them, such as when they met a crimson slugcat named Beehive and fell for her immediately...

listen, i absolutely get ramon not wanting to talk to sunny & feeling hurt/betrayed by her helping tubbo

like, i'd hazard he might even feel more betrayed by them than tubbo himself—bc sunny & ramon probably talked about what family meant to him (during their sleepovers or something) and ramon has no insight into why they'd do that whereas tubbo, for all his actions have hurt ramon, very clearly has the emotional capacity of a wet paper plate and issues running deeper than marianas trench

but that makes it all the more heart wrenching that he won't hear her out (and you can see in the backgrounds of vods her multiple attempts over several days to get his attention just to be rebuffed) bc i bet if she could explain herself even a little things could be so different

it reminds of the situation from the other week where sunny wasn't talking with em and tubbo tried to explain that, even if you're mad at them, suddenly stopping talking to someone you love could make them feel awful and worse than you intended

and that is what's happening to sunny. it's miserable to see bc she was already so isolated and ramon, as her big brother, is someone she put a lot of trust in to be there for her and listen to her and it must feel to her like that was an empty promise to have him not even hearing her out.

and it's particularly tragic bc sunny didn't even want to mess with fit and pac. yes, she was "tempted" to aid tubbo in his quest, but I really don't think it was bc she was actually worried about being left behind when she agreed. i think she could tell tubbo was scared and hurting and not ready to accept the change and didn't want him to be alone. she didn't really have another option and every adult can see that but ramon is young and blinded by his hurt

and now sunny is left feeling abandoned and forgotten and replaced and it's exactly what their pa said would happen; self fulfilling prophecy :(

The makeshift wooden sword tumbled end over end, clearing the edge of the ship and eventually making it's way downwards. One small 𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘱! later and it had disappeared from sight.

Kāne: And now we have nothing to defend ourselves with from the royal navy. Nice going frogfa-

Small calloused feet pounded the side of the old ship as Sunny let out an almost feral scream- wildly bounding after her discarded implement. Quickly approaching the same edge where only moments earlier Kāne had been precariously teetering himself.

Kāne's smallish heart lept cruelly back up into his throat- his own fearful heartbeat echoing through his skull once more.

Kāne: 𝙎𝙐𝙉𝙉𝙔!

Too late- she had already thrown herself off the side of the old hull.

Sunny: 𝘾𝘼𝙉𝙉𝙊𝙉𝘽𝘼𝙇𝙇!!!

𝙎𝙋𝙇𝘼𝙎𝙃 ! 💦 A tower of water rose up following her impact on the crystalline surface of the lagoon- one large enough to shake HANSEL from of his recharging cycle.

Kāne: 𝘼𝙍𝙀 𝙔𝙊𝙐 𝘾𝙍𝘼𝙕𝙔!!?

Sunny: EXPLOSION THERAPY!! My dad taught it to me- whenever you're scared of something, face it head on- 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙞𝙩 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙙𝙚! Then it won't be so scary anymore! It will be exploded!

Kāne: 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦!!?

Sunny: It'll make more sense when you do it!!! 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘯!!

Kāne: I'm good- I'm just- uh, I'm gonna take the ladder.

HANSEL: Young Master Kāne, what in AI watcher's name are you doing on the roof!? Sunny: He's being a butt! Kāne: HEY I AM NOT A BUTT!

Sunny: 𝙔𝙐𝙃 𝙃𝙐𝙃. Kāne: 𝙉𝙐𝙃 𝙃𝙐𝙃.

HANSEL: Can we all please keep our playtime and parent defying stunts to this level of the ship?

With the bag hanging partially open and Selphie able to gleam a look inside, the squeal of excitement was enough for Deunan to know she'd hit the nail on the head. Honestly, Selphie's excitement was infections, it was hard to not feel energetic when around the brightly colored SeeD.

"Good to know they're still your favorite, or this would've felt real awkward." She teased before releasing Selphie from her arm to hand the bag over to the girl properly. "Unfortunately regulation means I can't let you have a mech, but I'm sure this is a fair tradeoff."

Though would it really be so bad to let Selphie try out a Landmate? Mind you there would need to be safety protocols in place.

"It's based on an old world design, called a 'Bullet Train', supposed to be some of the fastest trains for their time."

The force of her friendly affection had been a little more than she was planning on, but with how excited she was to see an old friend again, Selphie couldn't help it. At least Deunan was able to remain mostly upright, and they didn't end up in a heap on the ground; Selphie had to give her credit for staying on her feet.

"You seem the same as I remember you, too! And always so busy, huh?" Even if it had been a long time, she was just glad to have a chance to chat again - until she got distracted by the gift bag that was being held out.

"Gifts? You didn't have to do that!" Still excited, she can't help but peek inside... Selphie shrieked with glee when she saw the model train, unable to hide her love of it even with just a glance. "Deunan, it's perfect! You remembered!"

Plyam update that no one asked for.

His spinal cord tumor is growing so fast that he went from a little weakness in his hind legs to full paralysis of his lower body in just over a week. All I can do is manage the inflammation with hormones to buy him some time. The good thing is that he doesn't seem to be in any pain, he is very active and acting completely normal, maybe a bit pissed that he can't climb and run as usual. I give him all the cuddles, skritches and treats and spend as much time with him as possible because every day could be the last.

This type of tumor, although possible, is not as common in rats. So Plyam is really unlucky… He is only a year and a half old. Hind leg degeneration occurs to some degree in most old rats (by "old" I mean anywhere from 2.3 to over 3 years old), but when it happens to them their abilities usually match their desires, they just want to sleep and chill for most of the day, so legs not working properly isn't such a big deal. But Plyam wants to run around, chase Skritch to show him who's the boss, dig in the dig box, climb on stuff…it's so sad. Even his little tail is fully paralyzed and limp. My poor boy. He is still somehow more active and mobile than his lazy chonky brother, lol.

anyway for my actual answer: in terms of direct inspiration, it doesn't really happen much? the last two times i did art directly based on someone else's work is probably this one from this fic, and also that time i drew art of someone else's judgment au. oh! and there's that moriohpsycho art based on this comic! (filthyguts' work is so very. hgngngghh. very good.) nothing else really comes to mind, and when i think of the other things i've been into recently there hasn't been as much opportunity for that to happen...

flex and herds = strong fixation but lmao. almost nobody else made stuff about them. nobody is surprised umineko = surprisingly i don't read much umineko fanfiction? and in terms of illustration, i certainly picked up imagery and indirect inspiration but nothing concrete enough for me to give an example... now that i think about it, i did once draw andromalius from redaction/sunny, but that was years ago, and also mostly because i was acquainted with the writer. ...i don't have that artwork on hand right now death note = didn't really get involved with the fandom + i enjoyed my own ideas well enough! ...i can't recall if i drew long-hair-L art before or after seeing other artists do it. and as for everything else the same kind of reasoning applies. didn't really get involved with the fandom or wasn't really compelled to make art in response to stuff i saw, or i just don't remember anymore.

buuuuuuut if we're opening this up to just... pulling ideas from other people? then yeah, all the time, though that kind of goes without saying when you have a creative hobby. ...it's probably going to be hard to come up with examples of this since it's more ambiguous.

there's uhhhhhh... kuwana listens to nickelback which was a @/four-white-trees invention, wasn't it? (EDIT: and @/overdevelopedglasses!) (not tagging in this post so he doesn't feel obligated to read my big ass ask responses 💀) as of writing this, it's not posted but i did end up making kuwagami art based on a nickelback song so. yknow. there's that LMAO

for sawashiro and arakawa, i do sometimes go reference @/todayisafridaynight 's art to help me with my own. ("how did he draw this part of the suit? oh, like that huh? hmm" <- this kind of thing)

and um. i'm not trying to pander to you (at least not this time), but genuinely it's one of the few examples that come to mind at this moment. but when i was writing my first kuwagami fic, i could feel the influence of the ever-changing on my brain... was turning over some of your ideas there...

you remember this? (you even pointed it out in your comment on my fic, and i should've said something then, but whatever i'm saying it now)

so, um. yeah. not really sure what else to add to that. pretty self evident i think. (i'm always talking about the ever-changing but i don't think i can overstate the impression it left on me at the time)

anyhow there aren't really any other examples off the top of my head! these are all recent examples so they're not so difficult to recall, but there are probably others i've forgotten...
