Colorful & unusual 1966 mid-century modern in Denver, CO. 4bds, 5ba, $4.250M.
Tumblr media
The architectural door is orange with purple strips encased in glass.
Tumblr media
It has a typically MCM entrance hall. Note the lime spiral stairs and purple wall. When the house was reno'd in 2007, the bright colors were influenced by the colors in the original wallpapers they uncovered.
Tumblr media
There's another hall before you get to the main living area and it's sort of like a mudroom- with chairs and a large closet.
Tumblr media
Looks like a water feature going up the stairs. Isn't this a unique home?
Tumblr media
Then the hall ends in this area that can be a flex space.
Tumblr media
From this room you can see up to the 2nd fl. thru the nice lime green rail.
Tumblr media
The main living area is open and I have to mention that piano. I've never seen anything like it.
Tumblr media
There are several sitting areas and 2 dining areas.
Tumblr media
The seating space in front of the double fireplace is sunken.
Tumblr media
The piano is a work of art.
Tumblr media
There are lots of tables & chairs inside and out, but this is the formal dining room area.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Isn't the big blue kitchen wonderful? So much storage, too.
Tumblr media
Nice big powder room.
Tumblr media
The primary bedroom is large enough for a sitting area and it also has a private patio.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This bath was redone in glitzy gold, white and pink.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two of the other bedrooms are a bit dated and the shag carpet is clumpy and needs replacing.
Tumblr media
One of the other baths is a standard 3 pc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Large closet by the laundry room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the 2nd fl. is a huge family room and that's the railing you can see from that room at the end of the main hall.
Tumblr media
There's also a large home office.
Tumblr media
Nice covered patio.
Tumblr media
Plus a large garden.
Tumblr media
The lot is .37 acre. I like the house but I think it's overpriced.

Creating a House Transformation by Opening and Create Space
Tumblr media
It can achieve a modern version by playing with natural light and create a mix of solid roof and solid walls with a glazed roof lantern is a great way to ditching the formal living space is to construct a pitched glazed openings on a pitched roof design. To let in the natural light and to see the stars of an evening by having a spare and unused space in home has to consider by adding a clever study nook that takes up minimal space. In the nature-inspired view home of the space under the stairs was the perfect location to add this striking hallway study nook like for instance, the nature of the pure uncluttered appearance relative to its location is highly significant value. It can draw inspiration from international trends but also needs to be practical even if having a small budget or little room space. It can still boost the value and space of home and check out some small house extension ideas Carindale that can help make a big impact by the look to generate that a condition that equal to other between the attachment and to the part of additional enlargement.
It will uncover some of the most interesting house extension ideas Carindale and borrow some international ideas to give a unique flavour that should make the property stand out from others within the area. An orangery or orangerie was a room or a dedicated building on the grounds of fashionable residences where orange and other fruit trees were protected during the winter. As a very large form of greenhouse or conservatory the traditionally orangery is protected from the cold elements but how about a cool enclosed entertaining space for the hotter climates. All the nasty bugs and animals to the front door open straight up into the living room includes a sleek aluminum screen with a see-through mesh that shields from it. With some bi-folding doors and a seamless transition from inside to out will have the ultimate combined entertaining space and typically thing to do however, it would work if it suited the style of the building. The home builder renovation incentives of section house ideas should be interesting and the house extension ideas Carindale are quite the hot topic at the moment.
Finding the best house extension ideas can be an exhaustive task as there are many factors to consider that doesn’t require any additional foundations and by rigid structural element that extends a project. A bay window extension on existing structure brackets can enlarge a room in getting extra light into the room by installing windows on three sides to enhance the feeling of spaciousness. With historic homestead style architecture that usually located at the front or side entry of home and attach a space for stripping off can provide an aesthetic and emotional transition into the house. The mudroom pairs plenty of storage space with a practical concrete sink that utilise the space with under house renovation or garage conversion. With simple addition that doesn’t need more than a modest scale in the dark areas to add light by introducing a small glazed extension make it look lighter and larger. It will love it even more if it opens onto a sunken courtyard that comes with stairs that lead up to the garden as it knows that manufacturing capital growth can be achieved through a well-planned house extension ideas.

A 7-bedroom Brookline Victorian for $9.2m
With its Industrial-era architectural elements, mint green paint job, and black shutters, at first glance, 14 Allerton St. looks like a well-restored residence from the 19th century.
But the Brookline home is much younger than it appears: The original building was gutted and rebuilt to include nearly 3,000 square feet of additional space. It measures a total of 7,450 square feet on half an acre and hit the market for $9,195,000 on Jan. 17. It had been listed for $12,888,888 as a new-build in 2019, but at the time: “That price included many upgrades like a snow-melt system, new driveway, furniture … This lower price does not include those upgrades,” owner Chris Wilmott said. He and his wife, Lisandra, a broker, are the listing agents.
The 22-room mansion includes seven bedrooms, five full bathrooms, and three half bathrooms across four levels. There are 65 windows throughout the home, and ceiling heights soar to 10 feet-plus. The property is also equipped with high-tech features, including a Tesla charging station, radiant-heat flooring in every room, and 11 security cameras.
The first floor includes a foyer, a formal living room with a coffered ceiling and fireplace, and a formal dining room with a cove ceiling and board-and-batten wainscot. A casual dining area connects the bright-white kitchen with a sitting area and the sunken great room. If you enter through the back door, you go through a mudroom with a half bath.
Most of the second level belongs to the owner suite. The home’s new owners will be able to cozy up by the fireplace in the bedroom and have plenty of space to pick out what to wear in the dressing room. Both spaces have pocket doors leading to the en-suite bathroom, which includes dual vanities, a soaking tub, and access to a 25-by-21-foot private deck. On the other side of the floor, there’s another bedroom with its own fireplace, en-suite bathroom, and two closets, one of which is a walk-in. The floor also offers a laundry room.
The third level houses three bedrooms, some of which feature walk-in closets or built-ins, and another washer and dryer.
There’s yet another laundry room — the biggest in the home — on the finished lower level, which also houses a gym, two more bedrooms, and an office.
The landscaped grounds are studded with more than 100 trees and feature custom stonewalls and walkways. The patio boasts a built-in grill and under-mount lighting.

7 Little Changes That'll Make A Big Difference With Your Concrete Flooring Cost
Inside the occasion of flooding, carpet squares can get equally as soaked and ruined as wall-to-wall carpet. However you can selectively pull up and replace carpet squares. It truly is more challenging to excise and replace parts of wall-to-wall carpeting.
Interlocking Brick Interlocking brick or pavers are desirable, but current exactly the same complications as concrete floors. Due to grooves involving the pavers, they are often a bit more durable to clean.

Compared with epoxy and paint, concrete stain is often applied in a thin coat that lets the previous ground clearly show by means of. You can find two essential types of concrete floor heating, hydronic and electric. Quite possibly the most cost efficient procedure for medium to bigger homes is hydronic due to the fact the amount of power it might consider to warmth an entire home with electrical could well be substantial.
Typically Utilized in garages, chip flooring could be practical in a number of other Areas too. These floors consist of an epoxy primer, foundation coat, paint chip coverage to a hundred% with a coat of sealer to lock the chips in position in addition to a high executing, scratch-resistant polyurethane leading coat.

Utilize a microfiber mop that may be only a bit damp with the cleansing Option. Will not use excessive humidity for the reason that which can break down the paint and trigger it to peel.

Other elements that should boost the cost is the type of epoxy getting used: Stable epoxy or perhaps a water based epoxy. Solid epoxy Commonly operates within the premium aspect of 2-3x dearer than that of a h2o primarily based materials.

Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Reno Inspiration
Hello, my wonderful friends!!! I hope we all have a Blessed new week!
I am so happy to have Shannon from @styledbysorrells on our “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” today! Shannon is someone that is full of energy, has plenty of talent and that’s why she is being featured by some big names, including House Beautiful and Pottery Barn! I couldn’t help but invite her to share more details about her home reno because I know you guys will feel inspired by it and love her new kitchen as much as I do!
Here she explains more about her journey…
Hey friends! I’m Shannon and I am beyond humbled that Luciane from Home Bunch reached out asking for our home renovations be featured among some of the gorgeous homes they’ve shared on her site. What an extreme honor! I recently created an Instagram account primarily to seek and share home inspiration. I have received so many great ideas from scrolling the ‘gram over the years and created a page specific for this purpose. Not sure about you, but I treat Instagram like a magazine. I scroll the beautiful images, dog ear the pages (‘like’ the photo) and get inspired! The community of folks that use Instagram like I do, have been such sweet and supportive peeps that share some of the same fix-up quirks I have. The “itch to switch” or need to fulfill a creative outlet through home updates- it’s how I roll. And some think I’m nutty- but these peeps are just like me and oh, how refreshing it is!
See more details below!
Beautiful Homes of Instagram: Reno Inspiration
We are restoring our Indiana brick colonial, a little bit at a time. We have made progress but still have a long way to go! We purchased our diamond in the rough in 2013. It was a sad, neglected space that had been on the market quite a while. Many turned away at the work it would take to fix up and couldn’t get past the strange room configurations and unique choices in design (ie: lots of green, burgundy, gold and pink- and none of it was the pretty kind) The moment we got home from touring it, I drew out the floor plan from memory and reconfigured the rooms and there it was – Confirmation that we could make this house a home. So we took the plunge and never looked back!
Before & After
Isn’t it a great transformation? The home now features new roof, new landscaping and a really good coat of paint!

Meet the Homeowner
This is the beautiful and talented homeowner, Shannon from @styledbysorrells! I truly can’t tell you guys how grateful I am to have her on our “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” series today. It’s because of people like Shannon that I continue with this series on the blog.
Home Inspiration
Slowly but surely we’re shining up this rock to make it sparkle again. We had to complete necessities first (ie: remove previous 4 legged tenants from attic who had burrowed holes in the roof, replace the roof over our heads, reconfigure the rooms, install new carpet and paint the walls that couldn’t wait). We expanded the 3rd bedroom, relocated the plumbing for the laundry room added a bedroom to the 3rd floor. It was quite a bit of work. I was 25 weeks pregnant and my husband had just started a new job- so we hired some great contractors for the assist. These changes were just the beginning of our journey!
Kitchen
Most recently, we completed our dream kitchen and first floor renovation. It is a gorgeous space created by numerous sleepless nights, pins on Pinterest, dreaming and patience. Waiting 5 years for this beauty was worth it. The old space was poorly configured and frankly, ugly. We had two strange living rooms right next to each other- one featuring a lovely restaurant booth with mosaic tiles which worked as a kids craft table for a few years. The kitchen had two awkward eating areas, tile counters, stubby cabinets, broken appliances and hunter green tiles. We made one of the two living rooms our dining room and made the second/larger room, our living room by reorienting the room and adding a fireplace. Some walls came down, some walls went up, a fireplace was added and the heart of this home had been restored! We are beyond thrilled with our new space and are so thankful that Indiana Kitchen Company brought our dream to life.

A vacuum is all that is needed most of the time. We spot clean as needed but the floors rarely require mopping! When we do, we use a brush mop and regular ol’ Mr Clean.

Laundry Room “Before”
This 3rd bedroom recently became the most beautiful and spacious farmhouse laundry room!
Tumblr media
Floor Tile
A few years ago, I saw several pins on Pinterest showcasing plywood floors! I didn’t realize I would soon have a plywood obsession that has now covered about 2,000 sf of our home in plywood either on the floors or as shiplap on the walls. Just call me the Plywood Princess.
Tumblr media
When we purchased our home, our laundry room was a strange bedroom on the back of the house that you had to access through the master bathroom or through the bonus room. Definitely not an ideal location for a bedroom- but we think it’s a great spot for a laundry room! So when our contractors were working on the original shifting of rooms, this one was included. Plumbing was run to this room and we just plopped our washer and dryer and old tv entertainment center in the room for a few years and it acted as a semi-functioning space. But definitely not a cute one. Thanks to Pinterest and DIY, we installed our herringbone plywood flooring! It was definitely a labor of love but oh was it worth it! Each board needed hand sanded, glued, nailed, stained and polyurethaned. The end result looks great!
Island
We repurposed the old black entertainment center we had into storage shelving to the sides of the washer (see photo below) and dryer and the rolling folding table.
Desk Area
We took an old bathroom vanity from an earlier vanity swap out and added some old 2x10s for the desk area finish off the space. This is my favorite use of repurposed materials and thrifty purchases – and I think it looks beautiful!
Laundry Folding Island
Isn’t this laundry folding island fantastic?! I love the fact you can roll it to any place in this laundry room.
Laundry Room Paint Color
Paint color is Sherwin Williams Worldly Gray SW 7043.
Chandeliers – Habitat for Humanity Restore
Flooring Details
Floors – Plywood – 5/16 pre-sanded
Adhesive- Liquid Nails
Nails – pneumatic nailer/nails
Mudroom
After completing the laundry room, our plywood obsession expanded into more rooms of our house. Next up was the man room floors, then the basement walls, and finally our mudroom. These spaces were inexpensive, imperfect but ultimately- they are better than they were before!
Plank Wall
Similar Wall Hooks: Here.
“Before” Patio
We have updated several other areas of our home. Although the kitchen is, in my opinion, the most dramatic and the most beautiful, my next favorite transformation was our patio area.
“During”
Our old back/side yard was a complete mess. It was originally two waterfalls/ponds that connected to each other with a dry rock bed. There was a tiny flagstone patio big enough for two chairs and a very narrow flagstone walkway down to the basement and pond area. We tried to make this outdoor space work for us for a few years. The water features’ mechanicals were completely shot and the functionality of the space was lacking. Not to mention it ended up being a mosquito breeding ground with the two pools of stagnant water. One day I just couldn’t take it anymore and just started pulling up the flagstones and boulders and setting them aside. My husband was not happy about this… but I had a vision in my mind and was going to do whatever it took to make it a functional and enjoyable space for our family.
“After” Patio
He finally saw my vision and helped with a lot of heavy lifting. When it came time to lay the patio, we had the professionals come in and finish the job. We had to order a few tons of flagstone to expand the patio but over half of it is original. We did not have to purchase one boulder- which actually lines the entire patio and fire pit. Every boulder was in the previous space hidden under years of neglect- who knew!? Through the years, we added Adirondack chairs, built our farm table, built a pergola swing, added fence panels and lots of landscaping. It’s finally starting to feel like a semi-finished space and we love it enjoying this space as a family.
Patio Furniture
Lanterns – Menards Chairs, Table, Swings, etc- DIY and local artisan.
Stone Patio
Flagstone – Iron Mountain Flagstone – 3 tons #53 stone – 3 tons
Sand – 1.5 tons
Joint binder- Gator Dust Polymeric Stone Dust
Home-Sweet-Home
What a beautiful family lives in this home. May all of them always be Blessed!

What a beautiful family lives in this home. May all of them always be Blessed!

Journal - 6 Ways COVID-19 Will Change Home Design
Architects: Showcase your next project through Architizer and sign up for our inspirational newsletter.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to reconsider the way we live and build in the future. From the conception of social distancing public parks to a rise in lightweight, temporary architecture, new ideas are swiftly being brought to the fore. As people are confined within their homes now more than ever, a spotlight has been cast upon the way residences can accommodate the demands of this new, unforeseen era.
Many believe that this new reliance on the home will persist after the pandemic subsides. As homes begin to play greater roles in our daily lives, they will need to adapt in order to entertain more activities and services. Based on current trends and concepts that have arisen during the pandemic, we’ve put together a list of ways home design may change following COVID-19.

1. New Interest in Adaptable Layouts
Our connections to our homes — both physical and mental — have never been greater, and this may persist and even intensify after this pandemic subsides. If this happens, homes will need to accommodate a greater amount of services and functions. Designated spaces for a greater number of specific activities, such as reading, napping, physical activity and entertainment, will be desired.
Hosting a greater array of activity spaces will require a greater degree of flexibility and adaptability. Designers have already begun to explore approaches to this possibility. One being Australian architecture firm, Woods Bagot, whose AD-APT system utilizes adjustable walls and screens in order to transform an open-plan apartment into various dedicated spaces.

2. A Universal Need for Private Outdoor Space
Since the onset of the pandemic, our appreciation of the outdoors and nature seems to have greatly increased. The act of simply going for a walk or sitting in a park has been a monumental source of reprieve. However, in the midst of a lockdown scenario, these activities don’t guarantee safety and aren’t universally accessible.
As a result, the demand for home designers to provide private outdoor spaces for every type of home looks set to increase. It will be up to architects to work out how to integrate the outdoors into even the most compact of homes, experimenting with roof gardens, micro backyards, porches and balconies. People may also seek a closer connection between their living spaces and the natural world, with folding glass doors merging these two zones together.

3. New Forms of Home Office
With people forced to work from home, many dining room tables have been converted into make-shift home offices. Though getting to work for many no longer requires hastily transferring between busy trains, these new “offices” don’t provide all of the amenities necessary for a productive workspace. However, many are enjoying the flexibility of working from home, so much so that Barclays CEO Jes Staley, predicts that remote working may become the new norm.
If this comes into fruition, there will be a rising need for functional private offices to be an integral part of the home. Some have even conceptualized ways to integrate home offices into private outdoor spaces. Brazilian architect Igor Leal’s “Buried Studio” concept features a workplace designed into the front garden of a residence, allowing one to feel like they’re leaving their house to work.
Transition spaces or mudrooms could be on the rise, with the incorporation of sanitation sections; image via Elle Decor
4. Sanitized Entryways
At a restaurant in Shanghai following the lifting of restrictions in China, customers are sprayed by a disinfectant machine as they enter. A similar concept may arise at residences. In order to keep homes safe and clean, entryways will become clearly defined transitional spaces where one can remove their shoes, hang their jackets and sanitize their hands before entering.
Kitchens will play an even greater role and technology will be an integral part of it; image via Goedeker’s Home Life
5. Smart Kitchen Design
With people more inclined to stay at home, the significance of kitchens within homes has risen as well. According to Epiphany, pantries are going to become more necessary as people aim to make fewer trips to stores. Smart kitchen design will also be more prominent, especially due to the rise of the hands-free mindset. This means more voice-activated technology in the kitchen, controlling things such as lights, faucets and appliances, according to Epiphany.
6. Air Purification Systems
Air quality has been a major focal point throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. People may begin to pay more attention to the air quality within their homes by limiting the amount of unfiltered outside air that comes in. Therefore, we may see a rise in air purification systems, which take in outside air, recondition it and supply it as fresh air to a building. These systems can work in conjunction with regular HVAC to make homes healthier.

A Brooklyn Townhouse in Touch with Nature
RES4 recently completed a five story townhouse for a young family of four in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Living in a city often takes away one’s sense of nature, so the client wanted to establish an indoor-outdoor connection on every floor, whether it be through material selection or an architectural modification.
The townhouse’s grid-like façade consists of brick and black aluminum, while a cedar rainscreen provides a natural touch. Though the home boasts large windows, many of them are shielded by cedar slats to maintain privacy.
A mudroom greets visitors as they walk inside. Once past the mudroom, the space opens up into a guest bedroom and playroom. Despite the space limitations of the narrow 25-foot lot, each floor in the townhome provides access to the outdoors, including the base level, which opens to a garden.
The main level features a grand, double-height living space. A sunken living room holds its own with custom teak furnishings and a large aquarium, while an in-home theater comes in the form of a sofa pod overlooking the entire living area.
Nearby, the kitchen features a standout curved white Corian island that transitions from a counter to a mod, circular breakfast banquette.
A visible staircase acts as the entire home’s anchor, connecting each level and making the vertical space feel like a natural living environment. A steel wall that runs through all five stories supports the staircase’s open-tread wooden stairs.
A mezzanine level sits above the living area and opens up to a balcony facing the street.
Two kids’ bedrooms and a master bedroom occupy the third floor. The master bedroom opens up to a private balcony with sliding glass doors.

Check This Out: Former Library Converted Into a Four-Bedroom Home
realtor.com
Industrial baron Andrew Carnegie was also a prince of philanthropy. After amassing a fortune in the steel industry in the 19th century, he gave most of it to charity. Carnegie’s beneficence built approximately 2,500 libraries—not only in the U.S. but also abroad.
Now you have a rare chance to live in one of the libraries Carnegie helped build. In Rockport, MA, there’s a four-bedroom, 3.5-bath former library that’s available for $2.95 million—it’s been on the market for a few months.
Built in 1904, this 4,000-square-foot property was constructed smack dab in the middle of Carnegie’s library building boom, which lasted from 1883 to 1929.
“There’s only a few left, so it’s historically important in that respect,” says listing agent Syndi Zaiger of Nest Real Estate.
The current owners were the first to reside in the home after its conversion into a residence; they are now moving to Florida. They made numerous improvements, including a new patio, underground parking, chef-grade appliances in the kitchen, a laundry (or mudroom), as well as a luxe master bath with marble floors, a sunken tub, and a double vanity.
“It was a total renovation,” says Zaiger. “They gutted it.”
Other design features include a rotunda, original floor tile, and a fireplace in the living room. The bonus room could be used as an additional bedroom, an art studio, or even a library—which has a sense of intrinsic logic.

Zaiger is marketing the library-turned-home as “a condo alternative” due to the low-maintenance factor.
“There’s some landscaping but not a huge yard,” she says. “This thing has gorgeous systems, too. There’s two zones for central air, and there’s radiant heating.”
Sturdiness is another factor: The exterior, made of locally quarried granite, is still in immaculate condition 115 years after its construction.
The location may also be enticing to a buyer: The Atlantic Ocean is mere steps away, and across the street from the converted library is a public beach. Boston is 45 minutes away by car, or 75 minutes by train.
“Rockport’s really known for the arts. It’s right in the village across from the Rockport Music-Shalin Liu Performance Center, which has really great concerts,” says Zaiger. “There’s art galleries everywhere and vibrant shops.”
Zaiger thinks a buyer in search of a second home will put in an offer: “You can get a waterfront property at a similar price, but you’re not getting the uniqueness of the property,” she says.
