Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore were supposed to come home around mid-June. Instead, they’ve been in space for nearly two months. Williams, 58, made history with the June 6 flight, becoming the first woman to pilot a spacecraft, a Boeing Starliner, on its maiden voyage.
Tumblr media
Williams has likely also been diving into the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita. She previously said she takes the texts, alongside a Ganesh murti, with her to space. She also brings samosas, but it’s unlikely she stocked up for such a long stay. x

NASA Astronaut Sunita Williams may have to Return to Earth Without a Spacesuit
Astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore await a decision from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on the Starliner’s return to Earth. NASA has not yet decided on several issues – the date of the Starliner astronauts’ return from space, whether to fly the Boeing spacecraft back without a crew, or whether to return the two astronauts aboard the Starliner or SpaceX Dragon spacecraft.

I mean, if this had happened to Sally Ride, and she had a perfectly average period the entire time she was up there, those 100 would have already run out.
At the time no one knew if the chane in gravity would have an effect on a period. And frankly plenty of women don't have "average" periods, of all the women I knew most of them have something that doesn't fit the definition of "average period"
So you know, I hope they sent 300 with Suni Williams if she needs them, because right now she has probably used almost 200. And she's still up there.
You know, everyone loves to make fun of the engineers that asked Sally Ride if 100 tampons was too much to send up with an astronaut for a one week trip...
But seeing as how an eight day trip has turned into nine and a half months because of the Boeing Starliner debacle, they had a point.
I'm sure 100 tampons would be a relief if stuck up there for Almost A Year.
IDK if Suni Williams needs them (given that she's my mom's age), but we know Sally Ride did, so imagine. Imagine if this is happened to her.

NASA astronauts finally returning home after nine months in space
NASA astronauts stuck on the International Space Station (ISS) for nine months due to a technical malfunction of the Boeing Starliner spacecraft have flown back to earth, NASA’s press office said on social network X on Tuesday.
SpaceX’s Crew-9 spacecraft carrying a crew including NASA’s American astronauts Nick Hague, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, and Russian cosmonaut Alexander Gorbunov successfully undocked from the ISS.
“The Crew-9 mission crew has begun its return to earth,” NASA said in a statement.
The undocking of the spacecraft from the ISS took place on March 18 at 9:05.
American astronauts Wilmore and Williams arrived at the ISS on June 5, 2024, their return to earth was scheduled for June 14 of the same year. However, due to helium leaks and the failure of four engines of the Starliner spacecraft, the mission lasted more than six months.
In autumn, there were reports of Williams’ significant weight loss, which caused concern among experts. NASA officially stated that the health of the crew was under control and did not require an emergency return.
Russian cosmonaut Gorbunov and astronaut Haig went into orbit in September 2024.
