ngl. had a terrible thought.
there's enough falling off a ledge and hanging by one's weapon, barely surviving, for me to be suspicious. throw in some of the songs bringing up falling into darkness, and i'm like. 87% certain summer fell into one of the grimm pools—and with raven there, well. she's got experience in pushing people off.
thing is. sundered rose exists. if summer is hanging on by her weapon, the blade of her axe keeping her from falling to what seems like her certain doom...
that also means she has a gun pointed at her.
horrible, terrible thought, but they quite literally could have a scene where it looks like raven is going to save summer, to pull her up... only to pull the trigger instead :)

So thanks to Erin Winn posting this concept art we’ve learned that the official name of Summer’s weapon is “Sundered Rose” !
Tumblr media
This essentially means Ruby named her own weapon in homage to her mother’s 🥹
Aside from that though, the naming of both weapons is very interesting to me
Sunder(ed) is a verb which means to divide, split apart, etc
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While Crescent is typically associated with a noun to describe a curve, bend, etc. Such as the crescent phase of the moon
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, a literary adjective for Crescent can mean growing, increasing, or developing
Tumblr media
While the more likely answer is that Summer’s weapon is named Sundered Rose because it’s an axe that cleaves or splits things apart, and Ruby’s is Crescent Rose because of it being a scythe which is curved, a deeper perspective could be that Summer had to split apart from her family to go on that mission and Ruby had to go through some personal and emotional growth and development in the Ever After

Goodbye ever-elegant Summer Rose of bajillion knives, i will miss you dearly. Welcome Summer Rose, the gentle smile amidst a garden of butchered grimm.
there is no reason axe-wielding Summer Rose can’t also have a thing for knives

There and Back Again?
RWBY Volume 9 brought up a very interesting subject. Namely, the concept of Ascension. This is a form of resurrection where the subject dies, but comes back in a form different from the one they had before, with their conscious memories gone. However, this does not mean they are wiped clean of all traces from their previous life. They still possess unconscious memories, emotional responses to reminders of what they knew before, even if they no longer recognize the subject.
Tumblr media
The reason I’m bringing this up is because of a mystery that to this day has not been solved. In short, I believe the concept of Ascension is a clue that will tell us the identity of the mysterious figure who appeared in Volume 6;
Tumblr media
Her.
When she first appeared, a plethora of fans concluded that she was someone related to Pyrrha Nikos, given her appearance, knowledge of Pyrrha’s background, and being voiced by Jen Brown, Pyrrha’s voice actress. However, I’m starting to wonder if this woman is none other than Pyrrha’s Ascended form,  the lost P of Team JNPR reborn in a different life. Look, here’s my thoughts:
Ascension is when you die, and come back in a form of your choosing, minus the memories of your previous life. In her life, Pyrrha was unhappy with how her celebrity status isolated her from people. Rather than coming back with Moar Power, what if Pyrrha chose a form that would let her blend in with the normies and stand out less? That would explain why she was so happy when Jaune said Pyrrha was a True Huntress.
Now, I know a lot of, well, all of you will ask, “Pyrrha died on Remnant, how could her spirit get to the Tree in the Ever After?” Good question. For that matter, how did Summer Rose’s weapon Sundered Rose end up in the Tree? Is Remnant and the Ever After as separate as we think?
Tumblr media
I don’t know. But it’s worth thinking about. And while we’re at it, we still don’t know how mankind came back after the Two Brothers wiped them out in the first era.

[ @utallige | salem from here // for summer ]
Her semblance slipped through her fingers like smoke, and Summer, flinching, shut her eyes. A frayed exhalation snagged behind her teeth. She lifted her shoulders, lifted her chin, and stepped around the corner.
If she were smarter, stronger—a better hero maybe—perhaps she would have come out swinging. But Sundered Rose wilted in her hand, axe-head slung low and slanted away from the witch. The diamond-hard conviction that drove her to Salem’s doorstep was splintering now, brittle.
She just wanted it to be done.
“Slow and agonizing isn’t really my speed,” Summer said, voice fried. Silver eyes met crimson, unblinking. “Salem. I assume.” A breath. “I’m Summer. I—” She’d imagined a monstrosity, a behemoth, an grimm so ancient it had grown into a twisted mockery of its prey. Not… this. Her grip on the battle-axe tightened. “–I came here to stop you.”

maria in an episode titled "worst case scenario": ugh, hacking, technology... why can't people just do what they used to and fight to the death? a lot simpler if you ask me.
qrow in an episode title "with friends like these": you don't know my friends. that's (fighting your friendos) how it always goes.
i have so much faith in my strq girlies to deliver on some good old fashioned fight to the death. truly it would be the worst case scenario but with friends like these... who needs enemies? :)

Also a slight headcanon that May was a fan of Summer growing up and crafted her sniper-axe after Sundered Rose.

Summer’s Weapon is called Sundered Rose

I hope we get to see it in action, mostly to see if it turns into a Scythe like most Silver Eyed Warriors have had up to this point.

Maedhros builds Himring to be impenetrable, unbreakable, and inviolable.
He shows Fingon every corner, whenever he visits; for always it grows, alters like a beast with many skins. All the secret stairways and mind-wearying labyrinths, the pipework of thermal water that kept the hallways thrumming with life as if with heart’s blood.
In case of a siege, he says, for it might come to be that the hidden routes should serve as places for Fingon to bring reinforcements and supplies under the eye of the Enemy.
They both know what Maedhros might come to be; and he learned with diligence all the places the besieged might use to escape, or for trickery, where he might leverage an entry to the stronghold of his beloved, and close tunnels, and trap the red-plumed elves of the Lord of Himring.
“In case of a siege,” says Fingon, allowing that possibility only.
He looks down at Maedhros from where he walked ahead among the curling turret steps, familiar with the heart of the fortress. “But a siege shall not come. We, besiegers ourselves, shall have our day. In the days to come the land will ease its ceaseless winter, that flowers shall bloom in spring in the shadow of Himring.”
“Come to me in the summer of our victory, and Himring will greet you in splendour,” laughs Maedhros; and Fingon bends down as he reaches, presses Maedhros against the warm stones, captures the master of the castle with a dizzying kiss.
Himring is Maedhros’ masterpiece, and it outlasts the sinking of the continent, the sundering of the world.
The towers fall to ruin, are worn down into lonesome isolation. Himling island remains, still: all the turret walls shattered, worn smooth by the hands of the wind. Century after century; the gulls conquer it without mercy, build nests among the old pantries, atop the rusted metal of the pipes.
Sparse white grass grows through and around the shattered stones of the last worn steps. On rare days, before midsummer, desperate mariners make the journey to the cursed isle, to gather the small buds among the wreckage.
Men say they are bad to eat, but good to have; good fortune for sweethearts they bring, courage against the swells, and certain fidelity if worn on wedding days.
