the little scene we got of team rwby talking about ruby's outburst was very telling with everyone's reaction.

blake didn't say much but she was sympathetic, and it makes sense - she's no stranger to depression or to lashing out and running from the people you care about. and she was still playing the leadership role in ruby's absence, mediating yang's frustration and keeping everyone together.

i think it's fascinating that yang was the angriest over it. yang loves ruby more than anything, but i think there is truth to the idea that the nature of her relationship with ruby as her big sister and protector made it harder for her to understand this side of ruby, because to yang ruby has always been her happy, brave little sister who she protected from the horrors of the world. and now she must be hating herself for that blindness (though of course it's not her fault).

and weiss seemed to understand ruby best. she got that ruby felt isolated, and put on a pedestal, and that she didn't think she could talk to them. and i think she gets it because as ruby's partner she feels responsibility over it. since volume 1, weiss has only ever wanted to be a good teammate and a good partner to ruby, and now she must feel like she failed.

Blake: Mhm, though I can't say I saw the ending coming the way it did.

Jaune: Kinda wish there was a big bang finale at the end.

Weiss: Jaune, what are you talking about? You already did that! Don't get me wrong, that finale does spund fucking dope and probably would have been the best fucking climactic showdown of the entire series, but it still would have just been a big flashy metaphor for something you've already done.

Ruby: We've all fucked up, Jaune. I was suffering from depression while Weiss fought cartoon physics and Blake and Yang got... either hooked up or fucked or something?

If i didn't collapse both of you might have tried fighting Cinder and... God i don't want to think about that. *Eye flashing* It would have been Summer all over again...

Ruby: *still crying* What... Am i supposed to do?I want an answer but i don't know where to search them...

???: *whisper in Jaune's head* Mistral... Lionheart...

Jaune: ? ... Wait, weren't they from Mistral?

Ruby: *crying less* Y-yeah... Wait, you think...

Jaune: Maybe. Though i refuse to let you go there alone... I will ask my team if they would like to follow us.

Ruby: *wipe away her tears* You... You'd help me?

Jaune: *smiling at her while patting her head* Hey, we are friends, right?

It's actually interesting examining Stansas and their absurdity.

A lot has already been said about the fact that Sansa was created specifically to bully Arya. That's already been proven and is a fact.

But what's interesting to think about here are the different ways Stansas will attempt to excuse what can't be excused. Here are the tactics I've noticed:

Stansas will lie that Arya is actually the one who bullied her foil. I'm actually surprised this person didn't go with that tactic since they have ST's mug as their icon, which suggests they rely on Benioff and Weiss' inaccurate adaptation where Arya was shown as the aggressor toward the character who was specifically created to bully her. Regardless, this excuse relies on ignoring the books in favor of published fanfic. The books show that Arya is bullied by her foil.

Stansas will lie that Arya "gave as good as she got". Now, this one requires a little bit of accepting that bullying occurred but tries to decrease the concession by putting blame on Arya as well. This is still factually untrue. All bullying in this dynamic is only coming from one direction: from Sansa to Arya. What Arya endures is name calling, being told she's unwanted, being told her life is worth less than an animal's, having her appearance likened to an animal's, being casually insulted just in the flow of conversation, having a murdered friend of hers victim blamed as a taunt, etc. There are exactly zero examples of Arya treating Sansa this way. The closest they try to come to providing an example is using Arya's grief over Mycah where Sansa was victim blaming him for his maiming and murder. But that's not evidence of anything other than Sansa's malicious nature.

Stansas might transfer blame exclusively onto Jeyne Poole. Again, this requires admitting that bullied occurred. Rather than blame Arya, Jeyne is presented as the only bully or as a bad influence on Sansa 🤣. Again, this is incorrect. Jeyne is a member of the lower nobility. In a world where Sansa didn't exist, there is a 0% chance Jeyne would ever dare to bully the daughter of a high lord. Even if she tried, that first attempt would be cut off at the knees due to the difference in rank between Arya and Jeyne. It's Sansa's bullying of Arya that gives Jeyne permission to join her, since she is also a high lord's daughter, and Jeyne is able to follow her lead. So Jeyne’s blame in the treatment of Arya is far less than Sansa’s. But isn't it funny how quick they are to throw Jeyne under the bus? I guess that's on brand for Stansas since Sansa was canonically relieved that Jeyne, her dearest friend, was given over to a pimp because it meant she could read without having to hear her crying.

In the case of the person I screencapped, they attempt to excuse bullying as normal in order to strip away Sansa's complexity and purpose. They even tried to project their fav's behavior onto real people instead of just Arya and Jeyne. It's been proven that bullying has a long-term negative impact on the person who endures the bully. GRRM seems to understand this as shown in how he depicts Arya and her bullies. We see how her schooling suffers and she has a negative self-image, which results in her tolerating additional bullying from others as if it was something required of her (she only speaks up with Hot Pie and Lommy when she thinks they're insulting Jon). Studies have shown that the impact of being bullied as a child can stay with a person well into adulthood. So by trying to normalize it, not only are Stansas proving what terrible people they are, they're showing that they aren't capable of accurately analyzing the text nor understanding basic character development. In short, they're wrong.

If Stansas actually enjoyed Sansa as a character, they would embrace her complexity rather than doing mental gymnastics to pretend she's one-dimensional. But then I'd lose out on seeing their ridiculous trends in bad takes.

Ok... time for the one I don't wanna touch because I don't have nice things to say.

Ok first. I don't mind this ship. Wanna get that out of the way because unlike most would assume. I don't hate or love this ship.

BUT. I got problems with how it was made fucking cannon. First off, fuck you rt and your "from the beeginning". I don't fuckin care how much you try to cover your incompetent asses. If the pants don't fuckin fit. Don't fuckin wear them!

Second. There was no real build up (you can argue there was. But it wasn't good. Anyone could have done a better job than rt). The only real thing that could "prove" this was planned was that yang "flirted" with Blake. Now you might be saying-

"oh but she explained her trauma to Blake that clearly means shes interested in her" in which. NO. Yes this moment is VERY good basis to build off these twos dynamic. And if rt kept building onto this by having yang slowly break down Blake's wall before eventually getting her to open up, I would be applauding rt for it, hell I would be a fan of it probably because for these two, it fuckin works! Blake clearly is alot more reserved and is rather prickly meanwhile yang is the rambunctious, ass-whooping, badass, and overall awesome ball of joy (sounds weird saying especially since yang is my favorite character). yet rt dropped the fuckin ball the moment sun showed up. Now I love sun and i enjoy black sun. But for the love of GOD if this shit is from the beginning than this clearly proves it was fucking not!

After volume three who did blake spend most of the time with in menagerie and rt was clearly trying to push? Not bmblb! BLACK-FUCKING-SUN. Let's give a round of applause to RT for making the dumbest decision of saying bmblb was planned from the start because bitch it was not.

And what did we get for yang. Oh only her trauma from one losing an arm and the fact she has PTSD from it. Oh yeah let's not forget the fact yang had ABANDONMENT ISSUES. Yet the moment her and Blake meet back up suddenly it doesn't fuckin matter because Weiss managed to somehow fix it by telling yang that Blake had suffered as well (i know that's not exactly what happened but point is I fuckin HATE the scene where Blake rejoins the team and yang is just "OK! I totally still don't have problems with the fact you left me and the team at both my and our teams lowest moment." Personally fuck you rt)

.....where was I again? Oh yeah rwby ships. So before I fuckin lose it at rt's incompetence at story telling, developing a romance and character building- let's move on to..... whiterose.... SON OF A BIT-

Look does the fact I don't care for BB and the fact I hate white rose with such a burning passion make me look like a misogynistic homophobic asshole a bad thing? Yes. But I just can't enjoy this damn ship because I just find it so FUCKING BORING!

I get it, it's "opposites attract". But I just don't care because this is so boring and basic that I can't even be glad a gay ship is actually popular instead of the same boring straight pairings.

I don't care if ruby could help Weiss be less of a bitch. Because that troop has been done to fucking DEATH.

There's not even the fact that it be a middle finger to Weisses dad because guess what he's already got his comupance and is also you know, FUCKIN DEAD. There's no satisfaction from any of this ship for me. Is it a bad ship? Fuck no we aren't even going to cover THAT!

But do I like this ship and hope it'll be cannon? No. And if it is? I won't care and I'm not even gonna celebrate it. You can take a fat piss on my grave before I say whiterose becoming cannon is the only option.

I don't care for arkos because I don't care for the fact pyrrha has no development. Not even a personality. She was always "the one girl that has feelings for jaune" which don't get me wrong, jaunes one of my favorite characters but I prefer the character he would be shipped with are actually characters and not... cardboard.

Now thankfully Oscar does not suffer the same fate. He's not infatuated with ruby, he is just a "kid" who just found a wizard stuck in his head and now he's off into a war he never knew about. He was timid (batshit terrified even) and yet when he sees the courage shown by the cast he slowly tries to be like them. with the moment between ruby and Oscar being a moment I fuckin love. Oscar is being honest and asking ruby why, why does she keep fighting? Keep marching into a unknown war that could very well kill her. And ruby simply answers by admitting she Is aware she might die, she even lost good people during the fall of beacon but she kept going because she wanted to be a huntress, she wanted to HELP people.

One of the many reasons I love rose garden is because these two fuckin dorks grow WITH each other instead of the simple "oh I'm the love interest of the main character I'm gonna be a cardboard cutout of the character I should be!".

I can't put it into proper words but I just love rose garden.

I just love this ship because it is just everything I want out of a romance subplot!

I guess we - as Jon fans and Dany fans - can breathe a sigh of relief. Dragon Demands even mentions that George never addressed the Snow spinoff, unlike the other projects that are actually related to the book canon. I hope that this means that we don't have to worry about the fandom fighting about a completely new content based on the AWFUL series ending. Especially if that would result in even more bashing towards Jon and Dany's characters. I get that Kit Harrington might have thought of a way to "redeem" series!Jon, but there was no room for anything good or remotely positive after season 8 for him. I mean, what is there to work with what Dumb and Dumber did? Because unless one wants to be blissfully unaware and pretend that it was all fine after the end of S8 (hello Sophie Turner and her thoughts about Sansa ruling the North alone happily ever after), there's really nothing left to work with it. At least not something someone would want to watch onscreen. Because would they bring Daenerys back for this? We know that Emilia Clarke said no to returning to the character. She and Kit are friends, but there's a limit on what we can do for a friend - I just know I would certainly not go back to a character that meant a lot to me just to have them possibly destroyed AGAIN, just so my friend could live his vanity project. Let's face it, they would keep hammering home the whole Mad Queen shit while Jon was moping with guilt. Dragon Demands said best around 24:24 min into the video, when he mentions the whole fiasco that would be ressurecting Dany. Because that doesn't undo the fact that Benioff and Weiss DESTROYED her character. That the burning of King's Landing was completely out of character, but that shit will be always there, and it will follow us everywhere until GRRM himself decides to publish the rest of the books and put an end on this discussion. Even then, show onlies will still bring that shit up to justify their dislike of Dany. And yes, he mentions that also Stannis and even Sansa suffered character assassination because how can you justify their actions otherwise? So hell YES I'M GLAD THIS IS NOT GOING TO SEE THE LIGHT OF THE DAY.

What bothers me the most of idea of Weiss and Jaune as even remote possibility is how much it plays into this idea that "if you just act in specific nice guy way, even the women who showed absolutely zero interest in you and plainly and directly rejected you will suddenly like you"

Like that's literal "nice guy" rhetoric that if you push for it long enough and act in specific way it will happen.

Its as if he failed some RPG dialogue because his CHA stat was not high enough, but its okay with enough women having died for his manpain he now has enough EXP to succeed at that. Just got to equip the right gear and click the right dialogue options.

The whole idea that "oh rejection happened not because someone said no to you but because of specific other circumstances and that no means nothing really". The idea that its because he lacked a specific quality or hasn't suffered enough or hasn't sported a Cardin Haircut or haven't "done the correct set of actions". The idea that there's a specific version or state of masculinity that would have turned that no into yes.

And it plays into the whole "Oh a woman is just WRONG for not "giving him a chance" and rejecting him" kind of narrative. And it posits a woman/love interest as a "reward" for Development/Change/Suffering. You just have to waaaaait real patiently till life itself makes her change her mind and rewards you.

Which is funny because I swear the show's narrative intent in first three seasons was about having him let it go, grow past that kind of mentality and slowly realize just how toxic that kind of mindset can be and that nobody is entitled to relationships or approval or love, short term OR long term. That he should let go of his toxic and immature notions of gender roles, masculinity and "heroism" and grow to be his own person who is comfortable with himself and with being himself.

Well my bad, I guess that was wrong! The obviously healthy way wasn't to just accept rejection and move on with your life, but to lift some weights, see some people (I say people but its literally just women LMAO) die for your development and become MANLY enough with enough SUFFERING to make it magically okay.

SO LIKE .... okay, in my head, i'd loooove canon s&w, but also i don't think them being a Canon Romantic Pairing would be the best. when i write stories i perosnally don't write that many romances, and in a show like RWBY i think there shouldn't be any focal romances (esp. since the showrunners have proven time and time again they have no idea what the hell they're doing). the show should focus on the character relationships but ... not romantic. dear God not romantically

hell FIRST fix is to make adam & blake not romantic ex's . he was her mentor, she looked up to him, he's like one or two years older than her. adam is mentored by sienna, who stokes the fire of his rage against the humans. blake and adam's falling out is over blake still choosing to see the good in humans while adam rejects them due to his past. he is NOT, i repeat NOT a crazy incel ex. WE ARE NOT DOING THAT HERE! ❌❌❌ NO SIR!

making adam crazy over blake only instead of keeping him focused on his ideals (like v1-(early)3 adam) keeps the faunus subplot from being swept under the rug like it is in canon

THE NEXT FIX. ruby's main struggle is her trying to come into her own as a leader. she has stage fright, she's socially awkward, she was bumped up one grade (ONE, not two this time), and her teammates don't take her seriously because of her lack of field experience despite her being a combat and intellectual prodigy.

the thing that drew me originally to s&w was their shared themes of red/black and roses, specifically rose petals played a huge part in their semblance. both left behind rose petals after using their semblance of speed and disintegration respectfully. it was very , very cool. 14 year old me then thought about how they could be narrative foils too. SO THATS WHAT WE'RE DOING LOL

adam is really interesting as an antagonist because he perfectly foils all four of the main girls. yang and adam with anger issues that are reflected in their semblances (even though v1-3 yang never had issues but whatever), blake for obvious reasons, WEISS for obvious reasons (seriously missed opportuninty), and finally ruby due to their opposing leadership roles.

adam is someone who is comfortable in a leadership role, he knows what he's doing. he's had plenty of experience and those that follow him know his capabilities and greatly respect him. he's an excellent leader, and he's devoted himself to his ideals and fights for his cause. he inspires others to fight with him and follow him. ruby, on the other hand, has no idea what she's doing.

she's awkward, she stutters, and not even her team take her seriously, much less other people. hell, ruby doesn't even have a concrete reason for wanting to become a huntress at this early point, all she knows is that she wants to be a hero and that her mother was her hero and a huntress, so that means being a huntress is being a hero. she doesnt know what being a hero means yet though

adam on the other hand knows what being a hero is, to him at least. its fighting for the people that can't fight for themselves, for the oppressed. using his strength to tear down those that abuse their strength and make them suffer in the opressed's place

apart of me wants to say that adam believes humans should instead be oppressed for. like. narrative reasons i guess? but also heres the thing i am aware that i am not able to do this subplot justice and def cant write up a nice draft on my first try right here. so i am going to politely leave it there for anyone else with more experience with this topic to attempt adding on if they wish. i think the main point im trying to make is that adam's idea of heroism needs to be strong, yet also he has to be wrong in some sort of way which is what separates him from the protagonists. he Goes To Far, or something. i dont know. i dont think i can write that well enough at this point in time too

so all this set up comes to this: their relationship. i think having ruby and adam meet outside of any combat related circumstance would be a pretty cool way to have them introduced to eachother, and opens up the chance for dialogue. i can't see them attempting to talk during a fight, and the only fight i can think of happening with the white fang is the breach in v2 where ruby and adam could meet. but at that point, ruby would either know about adam through blake and be wary, or blake would see adam and point out who he is. my point is that i think they need to meet outside of their own circles for a real chance at having them converse with narrative weight. could also make it a stressful scene where the audience knows whats going on while ruby does not.

ruby might meet adam at night in vale, in a shady back alley as she takes shortcuts to get back to beacon while blake talks to weiss or yang about her past mentor. blake could describe how much he loathes humans, and that he would hurt a human on sight simply because, overlayed with ruby seeing adam in an alleyway or something. the audience is on edge, blake is on edge, adam is on edge, and ruby is clueless. having the scene end with adam not attacking ruby and instead having him leave her unharmed releases the tension from the audience while also having them immediately question blake. was blake embellishing the truth? or was she simply telling her truth? especially for a character who's whole thing is lies and misdirection. could be interesting i think.

any conversation adam and ruby do have would be their opposing views on what being a hero means, and what you have to do as a hero. more so, ruby not knowing what heroism means to her besides it being ideallic while adam is much more jaded and set in stone about what heroism means. gimmie that juicy narrative conflict. the conflicting ideals. thats what im here for.

if there is a reveal for ruby that he is adam of the white fang, or his past with blake, or anything, you could easily slot in a betrayal element (but id rather save betrayal for cinder and ruby) or something. maybe the white fang aren't as antagonistic as they are in the show proper (to the point of Evil Pokemon Organization for the sake of it), or something, but i could see adam mentioning at some point that a leader must be a rock, or something along the lines of why he succeeds in leadership. maybe during a fight? who the hell knows. he plants ideas in rubys head about heroism, that maybe heroism isnt just upholding the law or upholding the current system. he makes her, and the audience, think. thats the important part

eventually at the end of an arc, or something, i think ruby would be able to answer him confidently about what it means to be a hero to her, and that their definitions are similar, but not the same, and that is why they'll remain on opposing sides until one budges. and both are incredibly stubborn. i think ruby's conclusion of what being a hero is, is to help those that cannot help themselves and to see the good in the world no matter what. one of her key traits is her optimism compared to everyones pessimism.

maybe some reasons for adam's interest in ruby is that optimism of hers. he used to be younger and idealistic too, but the world is cruel and he has seen the worst that the world has to offer, stuff like that. he finds it frustrating, or maybe even annoying, that the system that thrives off putting him and his people down creates naive shut ins like ruby. maybe he then respects her and sees her as an equal after she figures out how she sees the world. or something. ruby sees the good in everyone despite the horrors people throw at her, and maybe she inspires him to do the same. idk

this is all not even talking about the can of worms that is weiss and adam. which is also so interesting to me but they just didnt tickle 14 year old me's brain so. im stuck with the Rarest Rarepair. all aboard lol

i find it so interesting how they could be represented by monty's distinction, ruby is scatter, and adam is wilt. two different ways for dealing with conflict despite their similar appearances of something traditionally sweet and loving: roses

now if i wasn't just writing a story with an exploration of themes and you just told me to take what i want and force two characters together to make out, yeah id have ruby and adam tongue sloppy. who's gonna stop me

Vol 9 was unironically the worst volume writing wise, and inferior to 6. Ever after has no rules so its hard to be invested in the stakes.

Bees get a confession bridge (good for them I suppose) but Ruby can't get a you can't leave until you talk about your feelings camp? Why? Cuz screw you I guess.

Weiss gets no arc, and backslides (she leaves because of nose hairs, really?), none of them bother to help their clearly suffering leader, ditch her when they know Neo is trying to kill her, and they gloss over the Ruby breakdown in about 2 minutes to go help Jaune again.

The only reason it had to be set in ever after was so Ruby could 'remove herself from the census' and it not take or else you could have just done character building in Vacuo.

If you remove Bees pining, Jaune being sad, and the tiny amount of god lore you're left with just about nothing that advances the story in any meaningful way, and Ruby was once again shortchanged on development for the sake of Bees.

Giving her a new song and making her believe in herself doesn't help them with Salem because I'm sure Summer believed in herself too. Didn't seem to help.

Music, and animation were great as were the VA performances, but this was the weakest volume by far and the only reason people like it is because the bees finally got together, which again good for them, but it just showed cased the worse of their relationship to me, ie Yang is perfectly content to let Ruby yell at Weiss, but the very second she yells at Blake Yang gets mad and step in, which just shows Ruby exactly where she rates in Yang's eyes.

Also not a single one of them has anything to say to Neo about trying to kill Ruby, and killing Little. They just let her go with a hat doff because she's popular with the fans. Like she killed a cat that wasn't a threat that's not even the start of redemption. At least Emerald is risking something by joining their team.

Blake makes a blade that she wants to use as a proposal to Ruby, however, Weiss ends up thinking Blake is proposing to her. Ruby finds out and congratulates them. Blake is now forced to either go through with the marriage to Weiss or try to fix the situation without making things worse.

[Blake lovingly finished the sword and held it up to admire her work. A thin lightweight blade that Ruby would be able to use well with her speed. All she had to do was paint the pale rose pommel, and her work would be done. In Menagarie, she had learned of a proposal method where one would present a weapon to their beloved., a symbolic giving of ones soul to their partner. She quietly put the weapon down and ran to find some paint. Sometime later, she came back to find Weiss lovingly holding the sword up]

Weiss- Oh Blake [puts hand to cheek] I LOVE it

Blake - Uhhh Weiss….what are you …

Weiss - Don't be cross, but ive noticed that youve been disappearing for long periods of time, and as the BEST teammate ever I couldnt rightfully leave you to possibly suffer in silence [smiles as she lets the light hit the sword] But who could have guessed that you were making something like this for someone like ME

I am sick and tired of people claiming that Jacques is a good father just because he rescued Weiss from the battle of Beacon. Last time I checked, basic human decency isn’t worth rewarding, it’s just doing the bare minimum to get by in life. Also, a villain doing one nice thing (or at the very least neutral thing) to a hero doesn’t mean that they’re a good person. Sauron not teleporting to The Shire to kill Frodo and all the other Hobbits living there as soon as Frodo put on The One Ring for the first time doesn’t change the fact that he’s a 60000+ year-old demonic turbo-Hitler.

Anyway-

I don't know why Jacques is such a hard good faith check in RWBY. He shouldn't be.

Jacques is the definition of a one-dimensional bad guy. He has no reason for his actions beyond 'selfish'. He has no history beyond 'abusive husband/wife'. He's not even a racist or a sexist because that would imply he has some kind of standards, he's just an opportunist. Jacques is basically a Captain Planet villain. And yet people continuously fail at understanding him.

I know the point. That 'Jacques is so poorly written that the writers actually didn't make him bad/made him a good parent and Weiss was wrong!'. They know Jacques is supposed to be bad, they argue the writing fails.

My issue is that the barest amount of scrutiny shows that they aren't paying attention.

'Jacques picked up Weiss from the Battle of Beacon'? Why the fuck would Jacques not do so? Especially since he didn't want her going in the first place?

'Jacques let Weiss go to Beacon'? We never see that actually. I bring this up because people love to ignore the info about the White Trailer basically being Jacques sicing a monster onto his kid by saying 'we don't see him doing that!'. Well, Jacques isn't seen letting Weiss go to Beacon out of the goodness of his heart either.

'Jacques let Weiss spend his money'? Then he took it away when she stopped talking to him. This is literally the definition of finical abuse. And while a parent taking away an allowance isn't always finical abuse- a parent with a known history of abuse doing so for something as petty as not talking does indicate it as such.

'Jacques slapping Weiss was just disciplining her for attacking someone and lashing out at him'? Weiss is a god damn veteran at this point and Jacques openly said he was parading her around for PR reasons. Even though Weiss is clearly not okay with this. Even though the people of Atlas clearly do not care about the events Weiss suffered through. Even though it could have been avoided by doing ANYTHING else.

Weiss' 'attack' was accidental, to the point even James knew she wasn't at fault. And Jacques OPENLY stated his reason was because it made him look bad, not out of concern for the target or frustration with her attitude. And he slapped her ONLY when she verbally struck him, not because she refused to take responsibility.

This stuff is blatant. We've seen this in fiction so many damn times already. It's to the point that when someone pulls this card, I can only assume one of two conclusions-

1- The speaker is stupid/ignorant that they cannot see obvious writing and thus shouldn't be taken seriously.

Or 2- The speaker is so manipulative that they are willing to outright lie because their audience wants to hear 'RWBY bad' thus they should NEVER be taken seriously.

The eternal shit criticism end- Stupidity or lying?
