words can't describe what it was like to be reading kuro live 2018-2019 as a longtime lau (+ran mao) fan who wasn't really expecting to see him anytime soon bc of how he sort of faded into a recurring side character despite being a constant presence in the first few arcs and then rushing to check the latest kuro chapter and it was chapter 147

In vol 13, at the end of chapter 52, Akutagawa says to Atsushi "...Hmph. Nothing special about that. I suppose he's far crueler than my own mentor."

If you don't mind, I'd like to know what is your take on its meaning

THANK YOU, I love this ask. I think that little line is so so meaningful, because it gives us additional insight on what Akutagawa and Dazai's relationship is like and on Akutagawa’s feelings towards Dazai. There’s so much nuance to it, because it makes Akutagawa aware. So often in fancontent Akutagawa is completely oblivious to Dazai's abuse, utterly blinded to Dazai's cruelness. But he's not!!! He's not!!! And it's suchhhh an eye-opener line about his character. Because, you know what? Akutagawa actually understands Dazai deeply. Way more than one would guess upon first impression. And the reason of that is because Akutagawa and Dazai are ultimately similar: they're both the “doing evil” to Atsushi and Chuuya's “doing good”¹.

Akutagawa comes close to understanding Dazai: I think during the time they spent together in the pm he got intimately acquainted with a side of Dazai no one else knows, for better or worse. I even think that since Dazai thought so lowly of Akutagawa, he didn't spare the same effort for putting masks on for him as much as he did with everyone else; as consequence, Akutagawa ended up seeing sides of Dazai that Dazai rarely revealed to other people. And I'm not talking exclusively about bad sides, but also vulnerable sides, fecets that overall he doesn't usually let emerge.

This mutual understanding - and isn't that a surprising sentence by its own! The understanding is mutual, doesn't go only in one direction, Akutagawa actually understands Dazai plenty – comes from a similarity between the two that, I've said many times before, is likely source to Dazai's otherwise unexplained cruelness towards Akutagawa. In Akutagawa's dark, bottomless, empty eyes, Dazai sees his own, and he utterly hates how Akutagawa embodies everything that's despicable in himself, the same emptiness, the same void. In the end, they both want to find a reason to live, while also being highly suicidal.

When I say “understands”; it's not about understanding what goes through Dazai's mind (that would be, for comparison, what Dostoyevsky gets closer to do); for Akutagawa it's a more instinctive understanding induced by their closeness, their similarity, their sharing the same sentiment of struggle in finding an explanation for the act of existing. The “can you give me a reason to live” from The Heartless Cur that counts for the both of them.

They're the same, and that's how Akutagawa can get Dazai, deeply. That line reveals exactly that! “Dazai is plenty cruel himself”. Akutagawa knows Dazai isn't a good man; but that's a separate thing from wanting his approval. It's not only this line; this understanding Dazai of Akutagawa is, I believe, reiterated consistently (if subtly) in the manga. It's in “You know [what mafia is like] better than anyone else” from chapter 4 and it's in “It'd take more than that to kill the man” from chapter 35 and it's in the way he talks about Dazai in chapter 51. It's in “There's no way you're dead. You are somewhere here in Yokohama. I just know it.” from the Entrance Exam light novel. When in Dead apple he says that Dazai joined the enemy, he's wrong; but if you ask me, that shows how Akutagawa understands the potential of the darkness within Dazai's soul better than Atsushi (but at the same time fails to see the possible goodness in him, because Port Mafia Dazai is what Akutagawa has ever known). I feel like all these moments are symptomatic of Akutagawa understanding Dazai on a level that's way deeper than others.

TL;DR: That line is so important to understand the depth of Dazai and Akutgawa's relationship because it shows how much Akutagawa gets Dazai, making of Akutagawa a much more cognizant character when it comes to Dazai than what one may think!

¹ Chuuya is the good half of the skk duo. It's just that whereas Atsushi does good in a more general sense, Chuuya's acting is mostly lead by willingness to do what's good for the Port Mafia. Still, both Atsushi and Chuuya act on way more altruistic basis than Akutagawa and Dazai do, am I wrong?

ANOTHER STARKID MUSICAL. this one is just…… soooo good and funny and also . tragic. one of the characters reminds me a lot of toji :’3 former veteran w a dead wife…. who struggles to show his son how much he cares…… and the theme of capitalism and money and how it corrupts ppl also feels in line w toji’s character!! but above all else this musical is abt. Family. and that’s more toji than anything!!! :((( this is another musical that i rlly recommend checking out, it’s set in the same universe as the guy who didn’t like musicals but like . an alternate timeline. it’s not my favorite in the series but the songs slap and it made me cry so <3333 yeah.

was lowkey considering six the musical for my beloved nobara (bc of the gorgeous women and catchy fun songs) but . i think heathers fits her more!!!! i just feel like she’d ADORE it…… i know she’s singing along at the top of her lungs too LMAO especially to dead girl walking <3333 it’s just such a fun badass musical and i think she’d be obsessed. she does NOT like jd tho god bless 🙏🙏

Randy: After defeating the sorcerer the Nomicon calling him the "Last Ninja" He is the last one in the chain (making reference to the symbol in his shirt)

He constantly forgets to covers up bruises and no one thinks anything weird because he has the fame of being kind-of adventurous (and stupid)

He makes up stories when someone asks him about them and recycles them. Sometimes when someone points out they already heard that, he convinces them into thinking they did not (art of manipulation nomicon lesson when)

His notebooks are full of doodles and drawings of lessons the nomicons gives him, and they're messy af

Yes you’re so correct about his isolation issues being purely from circumstance. I think he has a huuuuge family so he’s never really by himself but Randy is an only child with only child parents so he’s Always alone when he’s not with Howard. Absent Cunningham parent are real to me - would love for them not to be but he gets away with so much shit there’s no way they pay that much attention

I’m not really a big Theresa fan in general (she’s just a little boring imo but I know they would have developed her more if they had the time to :,( )but her being a baby bat is so good. Who is she? A misty memory. - Chapter 3.

A young girl was in a small lab under some trees. She looked about 15 years old and had blonde hair, slightly brunette at the roots, and put up in a ponytail. She wore a purple necklace with a glowing gem.

She walked forwards and grabbed two viles off the counter top, pouring them into an empty one, creating a green substance.

The girl then walked over to a random person, who was unconscious with a stab wound. "This won't hurt, not like you'll care." She then poured it onto their hand. It almost turned a green, rotting colour instantly.

"Hm, perfect." She smiled at the person, before walking over to her clipboard, signed "-Harriet Anderson."

Monty and Carla fell into a bush, Monty screaming as he fell and Carla falling whilst cheering mid air.

"I am NOT doing that again." Monty huffed, leaning his head back on the leaves. Part of his clothes got slightly ripped from the bush, slightly cutting his skin.

"I would." Carla stood up, hopping off the bush. Luckily, she was wearing mainly leather so nothing got caught on the bush.

She then helped Monty out the bush, pulling him out by his arm. Monty looked around, trying to see which way was to the garage.

When the alarms went off, Carla tried to get to the garage like the speaker announced, but she was on the other side of the school. Since she was blind, she couldn't make it, but Monty was passing by and saw her. They both decided to try and book it to the roof, and ditch the garage.. leading to their situation now.

They heard a shuffle in the trees causing Carla to grab her knife, and Monty to point his gun at the trees. Then, a girl, similar age walked out the bushes.

She had on leather boots, a green crop top, baggy black jeans, finger less gloves her hair was also fully brunette with blonde ends and she was wearing a purple necklace with a glowing gem. “Hi..”

"Oh shit? Harriet Anderson, do my ears deceive me? I thought you were in England!" Carla exclaimed, earning a confused look from Monty.

"Who is she?" Monty asked, looking between the two girls. They seemed quite similar, both having on green clothes with leather boots and brunette hair.

"I'm Harriet Anderson, Carla's childhood bestfriend. I moved to england back in 2014!" The girl beamed, directing her hand in front of Monty.

Monty shook her hand, he was still slightly conscious of how the girl came across. He looked at her necklace and noticed how it glew, almost like it was a light.

"Whats up with your necklace?" Monty asked, walking over to Harriet and picking up the necklace before Harriet snatched it back.

"Its- Uh.. Nothing Monty! Just something I found near my dads grave!" She stood back, holding the necklace to her heart. Monty exchanged a confused look with her before Harriet spoke up again.

"So, how have you been?" Harriet asking, coughing slightly and taking off her necklace and shoving it into her pocket.

"We've been.. good.. well as good as you could be in an apocalypse.. Its such a wonder how it happened you know?" Carla mentioned, twirling around slightly at her words.

"OH YEAH ITS SUCHHHH A WONDER HOW THAT HAPPENED!? AM I RIGHT OR AM I RIGHT!?" Harriet yelled, sweat running down her face quickly.

"..Yeah.. It is?" Monty answered, slightly confused at the girls rapid actions.

"Are you okay Harriet?" Carla asked, reaching for her hand, causing Harriet to hold her hand back.

Carla's hand had finger less gloves with picked at skin and messily painted nails.

Meanwhile, Harriet's hand was covered in pulled off skin, faint scars and calloused skin.

Carla kept reaching out, before realizing that Harriet had took her hand back, pulling hers back into her chest.

"Are you.. blind?" Harriet asked, looking at the messy bandages scrawled over Carla's eyes.

Carla nodded, fiddling with her hands as a sign she was uncomfortable. Harriet picked up on it and leaned back, tapping on the bark that coated the tree she was leaning against.

Then they heard clicks come from a bush behind them.

"Whats tha-" Harriet asked, being pulled back by a running Carla, and Monty holding Carla's hand. They were easily reaching like 10 mph, running straight forward before booking it behind a tree.

"I can't run-" Harriet whined, wheezing as she collapsed onto the ground.

"Well obviously, thats why I had to drag you." Carla huffed, slipping on to the grass floor with her hands falling onto her stomach.

"Why did you two.. *huff* run so fast..?" Harriet asked, pushing up her head towards the other two.

"Thats a clicker, the second it would've heard us we would've been dead in seconds." Monty answered, twirling his hands.

Unlike the other 2, Monty had fairly taken care of hands. No picked at skin, no nail polish, he had freckles that slightly followed along onto his fingers, but he didn't have any marks or injuries on his hands.

"Huh interesting.." Harriet pulled out a notebook, scrolling through the pages and writing down "Cliker" spelt just like that. Monty cringed at the incorrect spelling of such a simple word, but left it alone.

"..We should rest for now, Harriet, do you have a base?” Carla asked, lowering her spear below her waist and standing up.

“Yes I do! Its-.. What about yours?” Harriet asked, trying to divert away from her own “base”. Carla bit her lip, grabbing her arm. Meanwhile Monty grabbed the picture he had in his pocket and crumpled it.

“Our base is.. Less than operable.” Monty mumbled, his ears being flooded with the faint alarms. The screams. The yells. All of it came flooding back, not just to him, but also to Carla.

Harriet sighed and looked west towards her base, then back at the 2. “Fine, I just have some rules.”

I finished Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarra (is that how its spelt idk) yesterday and I haven't recovered from it emotionally at ALL it literally shattered me but it was suchhhh a fun chill read, just character development and world building and like 2 chapters at the end of Big Picture Plot but there were little hints and cute things to piece together before and UGHHH it was SOO good i cried SO HARD

Ahhh I’ve heard a lot about Fourth Wing but haven’t read it yet because I’m trying to get through my TBR 💀 but I will get to it eventually probably.

I’m like, 88% through Heartless and am scared to finish but I’ll get there. It’s really good but there are some things abt it that are questionable and it is a hella slow burn the picked up late on in the book and then moved super fast, but the main male character kinda makes it all worth it soooo 🤭🤭

conclusions: the plot was good, all the concepts were good, but repetitive minor things from the writing really irritated me ranging from the stale dialogue to the cringe humour (pop culture references should be illegal to include in books), especially humour added at the wrong times of the book. like they could have so easily been fixed and the story could be much stronger as were the emotionally compelling scenes (because nico is suchhhh a good character), but its always offset by a badly timed joke that i could never really get into it. making the characters cry is not going to make me cry. find a build up and a release and dont break it up with humour, i swear the middle schoolers reading the book will survive some darker parts. like damn. it also didnt have the magic the other pjo books had imho, maybe because it was cowritten.

either way tsats is mid, and it’s disappointing because it didnt NEED to be mid. im going to gaslight myself into forgetting the bad parts though

finally reading tsats here are my live thoughts (spoilers, obviously):

i’m so excited because some pages are darkly decorated and its so cool. still don’t vibe with the title though (the sun IS a star and its peeving me)

also, maybe it’s because it’s the start of the book and they’re trying to familiarise new readers quickly with the characters but it feels like they’re making nico the caricature of ‘emo and shadow and ebony darkness dementia raven way 🥀⛓️🖤’ and will the caricature of ‘happy and sunshine and blonde and flower gleam and glow ☀️🌈🫧’ and i usually like this dynamic when it’s not blatantly pointed out every other page. i have faith they’ll show more complexity than this later on though. future yan will let me know by the end.

First Love

Just a short lil chapter today as I’m stillll buzzing over Evolution. Omg that was suchhhh a good start to s5! Plus, I can’t wait for the ep next week ahhh hehe. Anywho, lemme know what you think of this chapter <3

Ladybug nibbled nervously on her lower lip as she continuously snuck glances at the boy next to her. They were watching something that she had long stopped paying attention to. She only hoped that Adrien hadn’t noticed that. The only thoughts that were swirling around her head were at the moment were of Adrien and just how she was going to get over him. 

After all, her love for Adrien had caused the mess-up that made her lose the miraculous. And it was her fault that she couldn’t tell the difference between Adrien and Félix. Her mistake was playing on a loop in her head ever since she lost the miraculous. There must have been some sign. Something Ladybug had missed on the train that day when she gave him the dog miraculous. And yet, as much as she strained her thoughts, there was nothing.

So that was why Ladybug needed to get over him. But every time she tried it was like she would get hit by his emerald green eyes again and fall head-over-heels once more. She just loved him.

Adrien Agreste was always and forever going to be her first love. In fact, she wouldn’t be surprised if he remained as her only love. Though she had fallen hard and fast under the roar of thunder as the rain gently drummed on the sidewalk by them, it was his kindness that truly won her over. 

It just shined within him. He was always there for his friends and had a blinding, beautiful smile that just seemed to cheer everyone up. Even though his father was one of the nastiest, coldest people that she had ever met, Adrien shouldered through it and was still one of the kindest people that she had ever met. She didn’t know if she would be the same in his place.

And that’s why it was just so difficult to get over him.

With a quiet, practically inaudible sigh, she tried once again to direct her attention to the television in front of them and get her thoughts away from Adrien. It wasn’t working. Tilting her head up, Ladybug snuck another quick glance over at his grinning, beautiful face. God, she loved him. 

Ugh, why was she tormenting herself like this?! All she wanted to do at that moment was just tug on her pigtails in frustration. But Adrien would definitely have noticed that so instead Ladybug clenched her hands into fists. If she really was determined to get over him then she needed to stop coming over. But it was so difficult not to. 

Adrien was one of the few people who knew about her mistake with Félix. He offered her comfort, warmth, and an open heart. More like an open window, Ladybug snorted in her thoughts. 

Either way, it was exactly what she needed with the guilt still eating away at her. He, like Chat Noir, could chase away the coldness and make her feel like she hadn’t committed one of the worst mistakes in guardian history.

With another quiet sigh, Ladybug leaned her chin on her hands, glaring down at the floor. Maybe this could be the last week where she came over. Perhaps that would give her enough time to get her thoughts in order and finally start giving him up.

She heard the click of a remote and finally snapped out of her daze, parting her lips in surprise at the paused movie. Turning around, she caught sight of Adrien’s concerned, worried face. An adorable frown had formed between his forehead as he scooted closer to her on the couch.

“Ladybug?” he called out her name softly. “What’s wrong? You’ve been distracted this whole time. You’re not thinking about Monarch... are you?”

Ladybug flushed sheepishly. And here she was thinking that she was being discreet. Of course, Adrien picked up on it. He always seemed to know exactly what she was feeling before she even knew herself.

Running her fingers along the couch, she muttered, “Kind of. I can’t stop thinking about that mistake I made with Félix. If I had just known that it wasn’t you then none of this would hav-”

“Hey!” Adrien cut her off by moving even closer, covering her gloved hand with one of his own. Ladybug blinked up into his blazing, determined eyes, feeling her cheeks heat up even more. “That is not your fault, Ladybug. That was Félix’s and Félix’s alone. You have to understand... Félix is good at what he does. He’s even fooled my father before and my father is not an easy man to fool.”

And there it was again. The racing heart, the sweaty palms, the blushing face. All symptoms of being around her first love. Her only love. Adrien. But maybe that was okay... maybe she didn’t have to get over him. At least not yet anyway. 

Ladybug threw herself into his arms, hiding her wobbling lips in his shoulder as she clutched him to her desperately. This was exactly why she came over. Adrien was one of her biggest supporters. And that was just something that she really needed lately. 

She only hoped that one day she could do the same for him. It’s why as Marinette she tried her absolute hardest to make certain that he would be allowed to come on class field trips. Or let him believe that the gifts she made were from other people. Or even offer support when no one else in their class understood how hard modeling really was for him. She just wanted to make him feel as happy as he made her. 

Enjoying the warmth and security she felt when wrapped tightly in his embrace, she murmured, “Thank you, Adrien. Really.”

“Of course, Ladybug,” he whispered, rubbing her back. “I’ll always be here for you. No matter what.”

She smiled tearfully into his shoulder. She really wasn’t ever going to get over him. But that was okay. As long as he was in her life, she would get through any bad days. Adrien Agreste was her first love. And that was never going to change.
