I think the reason why the final scene where Jake and Neytiri see Neteyam again through the spirit tree hits so hard (especially for those of us who have lost someone) is because irl we can only imagine being able to relive a moment in time with someone we have lost.

James Cameron, Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington and Jamie Flatters showed us what that would be like.

Without a doubt, one of my top three photos of Unai and Pedri (not that there's many to choose from.) Everything about this photo is so heart-wrenching but also beautiful? Unai leaning close to Pedri's head, Pedri ducking himself into Unai's chest. Unai's taking his glove off to offer a comforting hand to Pedri, holding his head so gently, probably whispering something, anything, to help Pedri reconcile the loss. And Pedri's hand holding onto Unai's middle, seeking out that comfort from Unai specifically.

I believe this is also the tournament where Unai accidentally scored in his own goal because of a pass from Pedri. As silly as that moment is, it's not easy being torn up by the media for a mistake like that. I wouldn't be surprised if they often sought each other out for reassurance and comfort and encouragement to keep going. So you just know that they had every reason to keep fighting to get to this point in the tournament and to lose when you're that close. And Pedri's crying a little teary eyed, and you think of how young Pedri is, fucking 18, world on his shoulders, playing on one of the biggest stages in the world, and Unai, who's got more experience, but who's fought tooth and nail to come back from that mistake, who's representing Athletic Bilbao on this National Team. I'd be hugging the hell out of my friend too.

swift breaths, heavy and ragged, vented free from his mouth once he'd managed to find a sense of self ( even the littlest of it ) as he scrambled away towards the edge of the bed in his panic, eventually even falling off of it— and still, he inched further away until his back hit a wall, where he whimpered at the unpleasant coldness against his skin.

he hadn't meant for this to happen— let alone run away from levi the way he had, like he was afraid of him. but it wasn't his fault, he'd insist! he just couldn't control it... for as much as he wished he could, it was always as if his body had an automatic switch to flip in situations like these.

" please... please d-don't... don't touch me like that again... " but his words were uncertain, like he didn't really mean them— and the truth was? he didn't. he wished for nothing more than to be held tightly to the merman's chest, feel some sort of comfort and safety. and yet everytime he did that, everytime he allowed himself to be embraced like so, once the pressure reached a certain point, the falcon quite literally dissolved within the other's hold.

" i'm... s-sorry... " the words caught in his throat with a small hiccup, " it always makes me feel so... so... " so not myself.

--- Getting to know the avian had been...an interesting endeavor, to say the least, for the cecaelia. It had been simple enough, to request him as a bodyguard of sorts; with Leviathan being the accountant to shady black market deals and underground people, it was only natural that he was a high priority target for rivals. Thus? It was imperative that he was defended, given the financial secrets he held, and his boss quite agreed.

--- Hayato was...fragile. Naive, and almost too innocent in many ways, it had started as little more than a means of teasing him and exposing him to the real world given his pure and convoluted view of it. To that end, perhaps he'd taken it too far? Fooling around like so had...only served to heighten his own attraction for the bird, until he eventually found himself quite enjoying the company. It didn't seem as if the other disliked it, either? At least so he believed.

--- The tender stroking along bird's back was welcomed at first...though when they both allowed themselves to fall into the softness of the moment and Levi had squeezed harder at him? Protectively, caring? That's when things had shot south- shadowed frame had all but disintegrated in his grasp and given the merman cause for widened eyes and a gasped breath, worried initially that it was somehow his fault. That he'd squeezed him too tight, killed him.

--- Minutes passed with him panicking, stressing words and calling Hayato's name, clambering about on the sheets until finally the shadowed mass materialized once more and all but scrambled away, thrusting backwards so hard and fast that he'd promptly fell from the bed. Immediate reaction was to reach for him, following after the fall with an outstretched hand, ' Hay-- ' he'd begun, worried,

--- ' Please don't touch me like that again. ' he froze, brows furrowing and worry etching over pale features before his fingers curled in on themselves, forming a fist that he was quick to pull back to his chest and hold there, worried. He seemed terrified, the bird did, positively afraid...though of what, the other couldn't say. Being hugged?

--- Only when words were furthered expression did his tension ease, if only by a little. ' Hayato... ' the drawl of name, slow upon his tongue as the crease between brows faltered and he exhaled a heavy sigh, quietly inching closer to the other in panicked, anxious state. He reached out once more, though did not touch- simply offered a hand to his companion as he met the others flickering and bright gaze.

--- ' It's okay. It's okay...don't be sorry. I'm the sorry one, for holding you too tight. It's alright...I won't do it again, you don't need to be afraid. I'm here. I'm here for you. ' he whispered the words, a soft coo upon lips as he waited for the other to breathe and calm down. ' No one's gonna hurt you here, you don't need to be scared...I've got you. I've got you. '
