There’s something so haunting about Kendall & how in many ways he has become crueler than his father. I think part of why Roman decided to get tossed around by protestors was primarily based on Kendall emotionally abusing him right before for his understandable breakdown after not properly grieving Logan’s death. Their dynamic always had a certain vulnerability to it that might be gone after that conversation. He’s already betrayed and been betrayed by Shiv, and will likely continue to break her down so that she knows her place in the sibling hierarchy. If Logan couldn’t hold a woman in his head, what does that mean for Kendall as it relates to his relationships with women? He tried to manipulate Jess into staying through verbal insults, he tried to emotionally manipulate Rava into staying for the funeral despite there being clear signs of civil unrest brewing. He has failed every woman in his life, and his relationships with men are strictly based in terms of dominance and manipulation. He may very well succeed and come out on top in the end, but who will he go to when he needs to be consoled?
I think for as abhorrent Logan was as a character, Ewan’s stories in my eyes puts him in a better light than Kendall when we consider the contexts they both grew up in. Logan’s cruelty was crafted in his lived experiences of being blamed for his sister’s death and the relentless abuse that came from it. That’s a kind of trauma that would take decades to fully unravel even with therapy, and the scars on his back were emblematic of his past always being in his the forefront of his consciousness. His abrasiveness and abuse can’t be waved off or justified, but asserting that he made these decisions of a sound mind is ignoring aspects of his characterization. I don’t think many people go through what Logan did and come out of it undamaged or even alive.
Kendall on the other hand grew up in luxury and was not primarily informed by trauma and physical abuse inflicted upon him. He has a sound enough mind to recognize things like fascism, homophobia, and misogyny, but makes conscious choices to support them when given the opportunity, even at the cost of everyone around him who might be impacted. He is choosing to ostracize himself from his loved ones in order to surpass his father because he is the most arrogant sibling and will not leave this world without claiming his birthright. And the most consistent thing about all these characters, but specifically with Kendall, is that their wins are always followed by crushing losses. With everything we know so far, I can’t guarantee that Kendall’s making it out alive as the story ends, at least not the one many people grew to love.
#succession#succession episode 9#succession spoilers#idk personally#if he took his life at the end that would wrap his character up for me so beautifully#like I genuinely feel like Logan is more sympathetic in this moment than Kendall is at the end of ep 9#and that is NOT something I thought I would ever say with this show#he’s gonna fall from his godhood into an endless abyss#that he crafted and chose to fall into

Saw BTS pics of 911 and Gerard is there... what if instead of selecting one of the core four to take over while Bobby is out of commission... the county assigns him as the interim Captain as punishment for going AWOL and subverting orders during the cruise rescue 😰?
#9-1-1 on abc#911 abc#911 on abc#911 gerard#bobby nash#just because hen and the 118 received medals for their heroic rescue doesn't mean there's not going to be punishment#and the lieutenant guy who hen fought with in episode one might see bobby as the reason why the firefighters acted (to him) 'irrationally'#despite them being right#and installs gerard to undercut the camraderie#even tho it's been shown the 118's success and popularity is DUE to the feeling of family between them#and what if Eddie’s isolation is because gerard messes with shifts so none of the four are working together#or WORSE#they get transferred to other departments#which means we're getting 3 episodes of them having to come together to challenge the decision and oust gerard#911 spec

These are my top TV shows that I watched in 2022. As with the movies, I'm posting this now because I never got around to it last year.
Also like the movies, these are just what I watched in 2022, not series that came out in 2022. They also have to be new to me in 2022, so no series with new seasons that I’d already been following. These aren’t necessarily the best shows, just ones I really liked or made an impression on me. I’m including both running series and limited or miniseries.
These shows are in no particular order, I just arranged the posters how I thought they'd looked the best. The shows are:
This is Going to Hurt
Shining Girls
The Haunting of Bly Manor
For All Mankind
Unbelievable
Five Days at Memorial
Succession
The Patient
Yellowjackets
#artie thoughts#artie's top 9#tv shows#top tv series of 2022#this is going to hurt#shining girls#the haunting of bly manor#for all mankind#unbelievable#five days at memorial#succession#the patient#yellowjackets#I can't actually remember if I started Yellowjackets in 2021 or 2022#so I put it here#I started tracking my shows on serializd in 2023 so it should be more accurate from now on#not that I always remember to log episodes lol

I’m finding that the laziest moments of Doctor Who’s writing are the ‘retroactive twists’ - when the show runner reveals something happened way back over there, in the past, before they were even running the show. And we swear it happened, way over there, far back, and you didn’t see it because of reasons but it’s definitely been happening! And it totally makes sense and I absolutely didn’t just pull it out my ass to justify my paper thin plotline! All this kind of writing does is make me miss self contained season length plots. We’ve had people complaining that Moffat was guilty of the “this thing is big and scary and it’s going to happen, oh god it’s showing up, we’re going to discover what it truly is….. next season!!!!!!” plotline (and yes. he was. twelve is my fav doctor but yeah Moffat loved a mysterious horse and a big stick) but now suddenly when RTD gets out his own mysterious horse and a big stick, it’s got to be genius! everything is eventually going to make sense! and we’re absolutely not being had by a man who used to be able to write this show and is now a hack!
#FUCK OFF RUSSELL#write a good show or go home christ alive#it’s just nostalgia glasses. we could get an episode where all 10 does is sit in a daybed and list the symptoms of shingles#and a lot of people on this website would be falling over themselves to try say that yeah it’s not good! it’s not well written! but it’s fun#and obviously that’s all doctor who needs to be. fun! not good or interesting or well written or good scifi but fun. just mediocre mush fun.#im sorry that you love dave 10nant so much (name censor bc tbf this ain’t his fault he’s just here)#that you cannot handle admitting that RTD is bad at his job now or that bringing 10 back as 14 was a shit idea#and that plotline was boring and kinda dumb#but it’s true. it’s gone downhill. RTD does not know what this show is anymore#and I frankly think he’s gone from a fanboy being able to write his dw dreams and make them episodes#from a man who views this show as his little pet project that sprung him into success#the best episodes are written by people who love this show. adore it. think of it as something big and grand#and are so thrilled that they get to add part of themselves to it with their stories and words#it’s why he used to be good. and now he doesn’t really care anymore and it shows.#it’s why my favourite doctor is my favourite doctor (and probably why people adore 9 + 10)#because you can feel the love exuding from every performance. it’s a childhood dream. there’s not time to waste a second of it.#sorry but this season was bad and the overarching story was bad#and the Christmas special is going to be bad. because it hinges on the idea we’re going to ‘find out more next time!’#shut up and tell me now. or at least in the season. ‘ooh ruby’s snow power will be explained next season’ NO! EXPLAIN IT NOW#doctor who#dw#dw negativity#rtd2 era#rtd2#rtd

I just finished season 3 episode 9 of Succession and my mind is absolutely blown away at everything that's happened, but there is one point I need to get out of my system: the way Roman's facade chips apart until he's nothing but broken pieces scattered on the ground by the end of the episode.
His breakdown is particularly jarring because just a few minutes earlier he was the one consoling Kendall with inappropriately dark humor, calm and collected in the face of his brother's tears and murder confession.
The facade starts chipping just as they're about to enter the car: he's the last one to go in and with much hesitation. And it keeps peeling away as they drive. He's the only one still in denial about the deal even though he's the only one privy to the conversation between his father and Mansson. Several times during the discussion, he insists that they should not go in there aggressively, partly because he hopes they're wrong about this, but also because he's afraid his father will turn aggressive and he knows, intimately, what that means for him. He's near tears when he agrees to kill their dad, and he says it ("Okay. Fuck. Okay") with a big sigh, like it's a confession that he never thought he'd get out, like it had taken all his strength to get it past his lips.
Kendall confessed to killing a kid far more calmly than that. Another contrast.
Some of Roman's fear comes from his dad, but on their way to the room, climbing the stairs, we learn there's another reason Roman is afraid: he thinks his siblings will betray him re: the water gun accident in Bali, where they left him to hang. This echoes back to the vote of no confidence in season 1, where Roman is left to face his father's rage alone, this time with a deadlier if more metaphorical gun in hand. Roman has never sided with his siblings before, despite being the one who shows the most affection between them throughout the show, because he doesn't trust them and he's terrified of his father.
And then we come to the real fractures, the ones Kieran portrayed masterfully: the tears in his eyes when they tell Logan their plans, the way he hangs his head when his mother reveals her betrayal, the way he crosses his arms in front of him to defend or comfort himself when Logan raises his voice, the way he hesitates before answering, the way his voice shakes when he speaks, the way he just crumbles at the end, all of them terrible, all of them heartbreaking.
But the biggest indication to me that he's falling apart is this one sentence that he gets out with much, much difficulty: "to tell you and to say... do not do this, please." Roman, who throughout the show has shown himself to be a people's person, who has been the best of the siblings at negotiations (regardless of sucess), who has been shown to make the best pitches even at gun point, who is quite literally afflicted with word diarrhea at any given point, could not come up with a more coherent sentence than: "do not do this", the very bare minimum and the least refined sentence he could have gotten out to save himself and his siblings. And the "please" that he tags on at the end shows that he's emptied out, no words left to convince his father, no clever turn of phrase, nothing left in his hand to negotiate... but "love", an echo of that "please" in that it is emotional and comes from the heart and, to Logan, from a place of weakness. He has been stripped of logic, he is nothing but raw emotions, and that's exactly what his dad hates about him.
