2.48 million dead babies in 46 countries as a direct result of Nestle's push for baby formula in the third world? hey, everyone makes mistakes. can't hold it against 'em.
child slave labor? that gives me cheap delicious chocolate treats. i can overlook child slavery for that reason alone. not really a big deal.
robbing Indigenous lands and drought-stricken areas of their water all across the globe, leading them to have no water to drink and leaving families having to use buckets for washing and using the toilet? my tap water tastes a little icky, bottled just tastes better.
poisoning people and the earth with endless amounts of plastic being pumped into brains and guts and bloodstreams and rivers and lakes and oceans? who knows! maybe plastic is secretly good for us!
but what i cannot and will not accept is denying mothers maternity leave so they will buy Nestle products. revolution time. this is what will make me never see Nestle the same again. the mere idea of a corporation engaging in lobbying makes me sick.
i mean yeah, corporate lobbying has totaled $37 billion in the last 10 years and broke a record in 2024, but this specific instance of corporate lobbying against women receiving a benefit that should literally be guaranteed to them by law by the federal government anyway by arguably the world's most evil company over a product that in most cases shouldn't even exist in the first place is my rubicon moment. straw, meet camel's back.

On the evening of September 30th of 2014, @solangelo was founded and many mods and ten years later this blog is still active! In honor of the duration say hello to this event!
All sorts of artists and creators are welcome, submissions of fanart, fanfic, fanedits, playlists, cosplays and anything else your heart desires are welcome to be added to the collection!
Instead of providing alternate words, the prompts list has been divided into two sections, the first section seperates Will and Nico into individuals. The second prompt list is intended to be more focused on their relationship, and in most cases should be a word that connects to the corresponding word of that date for Will or Nico. For example, day 7 uses the words Refract and Crystal for Will and Nico and then Rainbow as their combined word.
The prompt list was intentionally designed to allow people who just want to create content for Nico or Will but not necessarily them together to also participate! Feel free to mix and match the lists throughout the week, or if you like an extra challenge you're welcome to try and use all 3 words for everyday of the week!
Prompts are only ever just a suggestion, so please feel free to submit works even if they are not necessarily inspired by one of the lists below!

Prompt List by date: Will // Nico
Day One (09/29/24) - Dawn // Stars
Day Two (09/30/24) - Growth // Earth
Day Three (10/01/24) - Light // Shade
Day Four (10/02/24) - Cure // Precious
Day Five (10/03/24) - Scry // Knowing
Day Six (10/04/24) - Endure // Insomnia
Day Seven (10/05/24) - Refract // Crystal

Prompt List by Date: Relationship Based Prompts
Day One (09/29/24) - Hearth
Day Two (09/30/24) - Life
Day Three (10/01/24) - Boundaries
Day Four (10/02/24) - Love
Day Five (10/03/24) - Reflection
Day Six (10/04/24) - Confession
Day Seven (10/05/24) - Rainbow
Please tag any submissions @solangelo directly or send us an ask for the best chances of us seeing your post, or you can also use the tag #solangeversary 2024. You can also always post or send links to content you've made for another platform like Instagram, Twitter, or Ao3 for us to share here. Late submissions are always welcome!
If you don't vibe with these prompts, you're welcome to check out @solangeloweek's auctober prompt list also!
Happy creating!
All art in the post is edited from the same wonderful creator of our header and pfp!

This fandom-run fundraiser will be supporting Care for Gaza and Direct Aid for Gaza, two organizations that are working to provide direct aid for Palestinians (money, food, other essentials). The first round of the fundraiser will run from September 30th to November 30th 2024.

You can find all the details on the DBDFundraiser twitter. This is organized by Nick, arcadiabaes on Twitter, so reach out to them with questions if you have them! If you have any questions but don't have a Twitter, let me know and I can talk to them on your behalf or help you find a way to reach out to them yourself if you'd prefer!
As a bonus incentive, all donators will be entered into a raffle depending on the amount donated. Yould could win:
$5 Donation: a poem of your choosing or a personalized letter from a character of your choosing
$10 Donation: a fic of your choosing
$15 Donation: a video edit of your choosing (incl. song)
$20+ Donation: a piece of fanart of your choosing
Multiple entries are allowed! Submit proof of your donation to the google form here in order to be entered into the raffle. Be sure to make a submission for each of your individual donations if you do make more than one donation! It does ask for your Twitter handle, but if you don't have a Twitter just indicate that and give an email address or other social media handle they can reach you at!
This is such an important cause. Any donation, no matter how big or small, could make a huge difference for the people of Palestine. Even if you can't donate at this time, please share this around so we can raise as much funds as a collective fandom as possible.

masterlist of places to submit creative writing
it's intimidating thinking about submitting your precious work to judgement, but all the rejections are worth it when you finally get that one glowing acceptance email that puts your anxieties and impostor syndrome to bed. but where do you submit? it can be incredibly overwhelming trying to find the right sites/journals/zines to submit to so i thought i'd create a little collection of places i have found to submit to and i will update it whenever i find new discoveries.
PROSE ONLY
The Fiction Desk
They consider stories between 1k words and 10k words, paying 25 GBP per thousand words for stories they publish and contributors receive two complimentary paperback copies of the anthology. (A submission fee of 5 GBP for stories which sucks)
Extra Teeth
Works of fiction and creative nonfiction between 800 and 4,000 words receive a 140 GBP payment upon publication in the magazine as well as two copies that feature your work. If your work is selected to published online, you get 100 GBP instead. A Scottish based publication that also offers mentorships to budding writers. (Free)
Clarkesworld
Fantasy and sci-fi magazine accepting submissions of fiction from 1k to 22k words, paying 14 cent per word. Make sure you read their submissions page carefully, it gives you a good idea of what they're looking for and what will get you one of those disheartening rejection emails. (Free)
Granta
Open to unsolicited submissions of fiction and non-fiction. Unfortunately they do charge a 3.50 GBP fee for prose submissions, but they do offer 200 free submissions during every opening period (1 March - 31 March, 1 June - 30 June, 1 September - 30 September, 1 December - 31 December) to low income authors. No set minimum or maximum length, but most accepted works fall within 3,000 and 6,000 words.
Indie Bites
A fantasy short fiction publisher looking for clever hooks, strong characters and interesting takes on their issues' themes. Submissions should be no longer than 7,500 words. You get an honorarium of 5 GBP for each piece of yours that they publish - it's not much, but yay money! (Free)
Big Fiction
Novella publishers (7,500-20,000 words) looking for self-contained works of fiction that play with things like the linearity of narratives, perspective, structure and language. (Free)
Strange Horizons
Employing a broad definition of speculative fiction, they offer 10 cents a word for spec fiction up to 10,000 words but preferably around 5,000. (Free)
Fantasy and Science Fiction
They publish fiction up to 25,000 words in length, offering 8-12 cents per word upon publishing. (Free)
Fictive Dream
Short stories from 500 words to 2,500. They want writing with a contemporary feel that explores the human condition. (Free)
POETRY AND PROSE
eunoia review
Up to 10 poems in a single attachment, up to 15,000 words of fiction and creative non-fiction (can be multiple submissions amounting to that or a single piece). It's free to submit to, and they respond in 24 hours (I can vouch for that).
Confingo Magazine
Stories up to 5,000 words of any genre and poems (a max of three) up to 50 lines. Free to submit to and offer a 30 GBP payment to authors whose work is accepted.
Grain Magazine
Another Canadian based publication also supportive of marginalised identities. They accept poems (max. of six pages), fiction (max. of 3,500 words) or three flash fiction works that total 3.5k, literary nonfiction (3,500 words) and queries for works of other forms. All contributors are paid 50 CAD per page to a max of 250. Authors outside of Canada will need to pay a 5 CAD reading fee but they do offer a limited number of fee waivers if this impacts your ability to submit.
BTWN
An up-and-coming lit mag looking for diverse works that play with genres, breaks the rules and is a little weird. They want what typical lit mags reject. Stories up to 7,000 words, non-fiction up to 7,000 words and up to 4 poems totalling no more than 10 pages, hybrid work, comics/graphics up to 5 pages, original periodicals up to 14,000 words of prose or 20 pages of poetry. (Free)
Gutter
Accepting submission in spring and autumn work that challenges, re-imagines or undermines the status quo and pushes at the boundaries of form and function. If your contribution is chosen, you get 30 GBP for your work as well as a complimentary copy of the issue. Up to three poems (no more than 100 lines), fiction and essays (up to 2,500 words)
Whisk(e)y Tit
This one's worth checking out just for their logo. They're looking for fiction whether it's short stories, flash fiction or novel excerpts up to 7,000 words, up to 5 poems, up to 7,000 word essays, screenplays and stage plays (can be full works or excerpts up to 20 pages). (Free)

TMNT Write Fight is a gift exchange event, inspired by @artfight and @phicphight.
Unlike other gift exchanges, you will not be assigned a specific person to exchange with, instead you will be assigned a clan. You earn points for your clan by writing fics based off of other people’s prompts. You can attack by writing for a prompt from the other clan (1 point per 10 words) or ‘spar’ by writing for a prompt from your own clan (1 point per 20 words). Clans will be randomised, but don’t let that stop you from writing for whoever you want.
When signing up for the event, all you have to provide is your name, your tumblr username, and at least one prompt. It’s completely okay if you join the event and not write a single word. You can even ask to change the prompts, as long as it is before the list of prompts has been posted.
It’s framed as a competition, yes, but we’re all here to have some fun and write stuff. Completely no pressure!
Sign-ups will be today (August 24th) through September 1st. They will be open afterwards, but it will likely take some time to be added to the event.

The rules for creating your prompts below the cut.
No Smut.
No TCEST.
No hateful content (homophobia, racism, sexism, etc.)
No iteration/character bashing, we’re here to have fun, people.
Any ocs must have public content to go off of, no creating ocs inside of a prompt.
Keep your prompts 1-4 sentences long.
Crossovers are only allowed if they exist within pre-existing media (Power Rangers comic, Usagi, the Batman movie, etc.)
Prompts about specific aus (things with fics or comics or dedicated blogs and such) can only be submitted by their creators.
Specify iterations if referencing iteration-specific events, do not assume others can recognise the iteration automatically.

The Fall 2024 Fanauthor Workshop is a 7-week writing course led by Betts (@bettsfic). The workshop lends a supportive space to writers who identify as fans to receive constructive feedback on fanfiction, original fiction, or creative nonfiction.
Art by @emimayooo 💖
Where & When
We meet weekly over Zoom. You can apply for one of two sessions:
Group A: Wednesdays from Oct. 9 - Nov. 20, 12-2pm EST
Group B: Mondays from Oct. 7 - Nov. 18, 6-8pm EST
What
FAW is a feedback-oriented workshop with the occasional generative session. This means that each week we read 2 pieces submitted by participants, offer written feedback, and discuss them over Zoom. You'll be able to sign up for the week you would like to workshop your own piece, which can be anything under 6k words.
There may be weeks where, in lieu of workshopping, I present external readings and writing exercises. These sessions will be dependent on the number of participants. For example, if we have 10 participants and 6 workshop weeks, that means one week will be devoted to a reading discussion and generative activity.
I developed a workshop model that focuses mostly on affirmations and positivity, as well as descriptive over prescriptive feedback, which is to say, describing one's experience of reading rather than prescribing solutions to perceived problems. We also present improvement-oriented feedback, but avoid negativity, judgment, and pedantry. Week 1 is spent going over the model and how to give feedback.
About FAW
The first FAW was held in 2017 as an independent study in my MFA. I restarted it in 2022 and since then have led 9 sessions with a total of over 50 participants, about half of whom have participated in the workshop more than once.
Participation in the workshop includes entrance into the FAW community, an active Discord server where we host:
Ongoing accountability meetings, where we chat over Zoom about our projects and set goals for ourselves every other week
A monthly longform writing workshop, where writers can workshop any story between 6k and 100k words
A short story club, where we read and chat about original short form works
Events and activities like movie nights and co-op gaming
Scheduled write-ins and impromptu writing sprints
We also chat about writing and craft, offer resources, and share many, many pet photos.
In addition, participants of the workshop receive:
A one-hour consultation with me to go over your workshop feedback, come up with a plan for revision and/or publication, or anything else you’d like to discuss regarding your writing
Open enrollment in future workshops
Priority sign-ups for WTFS (Write the Fucking Story), WIP Cleanout, and other one-off generative sessions
Eligibility
Anyone over the age of 18 who considers themselves a participant of fandom and who is familiar with fanfiction may apply. A stable internet connection is also required.
Cost
The cost of the workshop is "pay what you can" with the recommended amount of $300. To be as inclusive as possible, I don't want money to be a deterrent for anyone interested in participating.
Payment (or notification of nonpayment) will be requested prior to the start of workshop via PayPal, Venmo, or Wise. You can also pay in installments.
Application requirements
To apply, you will need:
An informal cover letter discussing your fan history and goals as a (fan)writer (more specific instructions on submittable)
A short sample of your writing, either original work or fanfiction. This may be previously published/posted
You can apply via submittable. Applications close September 15.
FAQ under the cut
FAQ
Are there any content restrictions to what I can workshop?
The only restriction is word count (max 6k), with the following caveats:
If you workshop a piece in a form other than prose (for example, a script), your peers may not be able to offer constructive feedback on that aspect of the work. Participants are asked only to have a familiarity with prose.
Content warnings are required for each piece (if applicable), and participants who are uncomfortable reading certain subject matter may abstain from your workshop.
What is the time commitment of the workshop?
As a participant of the workshop, you'll be asked to:
Workshop any piece of your own prose up to 6k words, which will need to be uploaded to the group folder one week before your workshop.
Read 2 pieces per week, write out your individual crit, and attend the workshop itself.
What is the timeline of the workshop?
In week 1, we go over the syllabus and do a writing exercise. Weeks 2 through 7 will be a workshop, a discussion of an external reading, or a writing activity. Prior to the start of workshop, you'll be able to sign up for the week you would like to workshop your piece.
Structure of the sessions:
Question of the day
First workshop
Short break
Second workshop
We'll go over my workshop model and the syllabus in week 1.
Do I have to participate in the Zoom meetings (camera and mic on)?
Attending the workshop itself is required, and everyone is asked to offer at least one note of positive feedback on each piece, so mics are necessary. Cameras are preferred but not required.
You can't asynchronously participate, i.e. read the pieces and offer written feedback without attending the sessions.
Can workshop participants submit to OFIC Magazine?
Yes! Part of the reason I run the workshop is to inspire and promote the original work of fanwriters. You can follow us on tumblr @oficmag.
Who is running the workshop?
@bettsfic! In short, I lived a dreary cubicle life as a banker until I found fanfiction at 24. I loved it so much that I quit my job to get an MFA in creative writing. I loved the MFA so much that I became a writing teacher. I have some publications, awards, an agent, and 2 million words of fic on ao3. I don't have a book out yet but I'm getting there.
Currently I'm a writing coach and freelance editor. I also have a lowkey writing-related newsletter. And I've been answering writing advice asks on my blog for 10 years.
If you want an idea of the kind of writing activities I create, last summer I worked with @books on a workshop series which includes craft essays and some fun prompts.
If you're interested in my original work, my short story "Not If, When" is a good representation of my writing. For something darker, check out "Shut Up and Kill Me."
What is the workshop like?
Check out G's experience of attending the workshop. And here's some feedback from previous participants.
One final note: I'm working on updating the copy about the workshop on my website and move it over to OFIC's website. This post and Submittable has the most updated information on the workshop. If you have questions about discrepancies (or anything at all), you can shoot me an ask, DM me, or add me on Discord (I'm bettsfic there too). Or you can email me at [email protected].

Spencer Reid A-Z Masterlist
these are written as a story with each letter being a new chapter. I recommend reading in chronological order for story purposes, but these could also work as one shots.
unless explicitly stated, all my fics ignore anything related to jeid, and in my universe, maeve simply does not exist. i do like the idea that spencer and ethan may have had a romance in college
the following events are removed from canon: anything related to a jeid romance, maeve (i just can't have reader and spencer break up for her character to have her moment)
the following events are what i believe to have happened before this timeline began: spencer and ethan had a small (non-sexual) romance in college which is the real reason why they hadn't spoken in years, spencer is a virgin, lila archer events did occur, however i do not believe he had real feelings for her, he was just doing his job (i do think he enjoyed the kiss though, because who wouldn't)
I’ve put them in a timeline and they are further categorized by emojis

What is Fic In A Box
A gift exchange is an event where participants create fanworks to gift to each other. Fic In A Box is a fanwork exchange with a large minimum gifting requirement and several unique features. Gifts can include fic, art, audio, video— and much much more.
How It Works/The Nitty-Gritty:
All participants in Fic In A Box are requesting 10,000 words of fanfiction by default, but can opt in to other mediums to give their gifter options. Mediums can include writing structure things like "in-world rpf" for your gift, or include creative formats as far away from fic as different types of art, knitting patterns, logic puzzles, and so on. There were 288 mediums to choose from last year, and we add more every year.
For mediums other than the written word, pretty much any medium will be accepted, as long as it can be digitized for delivery and we can agree on a clear and easily checked equivalent to 1k of written fic. Participants who primarily work in non-writing mediums are very welcome and will get specially matched (as long as they give the mods a heads-up) so they'll have an assignment they can complete. If your art form is fannish cross-stitch? We'd love to have you join us.
Participants have the option to split the 10k words (or equivalent in an opted-into medium) that they owe between several separate works (say, one fic of 3k and a another of 7k) to reach 10k total. The minimum word count per work is 1k by default, but lower wordcount works will count if your recipient has opted into receiving them. (Drabble is a medium that can be opted into!) And initial assignments are 10k for one person, but at the start of the exchange the mods run Swaps which will give you the chance to split that 10k into multiple shorter assignments for multiple recipients!
So when it comes time to turn in gifts, you might turn in 3k worth of art, 4k in fic, and 3k in typesetting a fic (10k total), and then you receive 8k of fic and 2k of map design (10k total). Last year 265 people signed up, and we exchanged 993 gifts at the end of the creation period, everything from fic to reddit posts to logic puzzles to museum catalogues to CYOA stories to colouring pages!
If you cannot complete the full 10k (or other medium equivalent) but are still able to post one or more smaller, complete works, you can default on just the remaining wordcount. You will then be guaranteed (via finding a back up gifter-- "pinch hitting"-- if necessary) a gift equivalent to the amount you were able to submit (rounded down to the nearest 1k). There are also options to "earn back" guaranteed minimum amount by taking pinch hits or completing your original assignment.
Questions?
For more information about Medium rulesets, signing up, nominations of fandoms, relationships, or medium forms, swaps, or much more (questions about how pinch hits work? we have documentation about that), check out the dreamwidth blog!
If you have questions, feel free to ask them here, check the dreamwidth blog for much more documentation, email the mods, or join our discord server. The discord server has a lot of experienced participants happy to answer questions, and you are also welcome to join just to hang out!
Note: you must be 18 or older to join FIAB.
