Natsume: You didn't sleep a wink last night. Why not go and grab a few now? Natori [sparkling]: I'm just fine. It takes more than sleep deprivation to dull my dazzling self, so don't you worry your fussy little head. Natsume [concerned]: Nonsense like that is exactly what someone suffering from sleep deprivation would say! Sensei: Oh really? Has he been sleep-deprived every day of his life?
so i've been watching the natsume dub -
#sensei referring to matoba as the 'pirate-princess-tightrope-walker'????? PLSSSS#sensei to natsume about matoba: your wussy little punches won't do jack#also yes sensei he probably has been sleep-deprived every day of his life. this man is a dumpster fire#thanks to qserasera (thank you qserasera!!!) i've been revisiting the natori and matoba episodes#i had started a rewatch earlier this year but got sidetracked early in season 2 so i'm picking up from there#so to refresh my memory i read through the episode summaries i had written for season 1/early season 2#and got SO EMOTIONAL??? just from reading the summaries? what the fuck???#me earlier today: i can't reread le petit prince right now because my heart can't take it#also me: tra la la let's see what natsume is going to do to pulverize my soul into powder today#natsume's book of friends#natsume yuujinchou#natori shuuichi#my posts#anyway i probably would never have tried the dub except that someone put some clips of english dub matoba on here#and i was OBSESSED with the voice acting???#i'm so glad i decided to try it because so many of the line readings are just delightful#natsume and sensei's bickering especially#i don't love madara's youkai voice. and i like the japanese voice playing touko a lot better than the english voice#but it's nice to be able to listen and like do the dishes at the same time! i love subs but you can't really multitask#i guess since this is the dub i should be calling him master not sensei but i'm too used to sensei#i must say though that i'm really enjoying natsume calling him 'master kitty cat' in full earnestness#i don't speak japanese so i wasn't getting the full effect from 'nyanko-sensei'#i get now why tanuma was so embarrassed

Hey guys, I'm just making this post because there's something I need to get off my chest.......... I really hate it when people say the "sub is better than the dub". I see it almost everywhere and it's really annoying because I grew up watching a bunch anime with the english dub and it really helps understand the story. I also watched Godzilla Minus One with the english dub and I really liked the voice acting (that's just my opinion). You can watch something however you like if it makes you comfortable, but don't force them to watch the way you like it. I'm so happy that I got this off my chest and I hope everyone can relate to this even when it comes to anime.

Okay but the Japanese dub of the Mario movie actually looks like such a blast!!! The English voice acting totally kills it for me (especially crisp rat, but really everyone other than bowser sounds a little boring to me) but the Japanese voice actors are out here giving it their all and they sound fantastic!

what do you think about la squadra's english dub voices?
Fun fact: I never watched the dub beyond a small bit of it because I was put off by the translation choices ("jail bait", having Melone shit on his dead teammates when he was quiet and polite in the Japanese original, etc.) but for this ask I fired up Episode 10 where everyone has a turn to speak (and took a quick listen of Episode 16 to hear more of Melone), and I'll write down my impressions of their voices as I go! Mostly comparing them to the original experience.
Formaggio: It seems fitting for someone of his stature, though I enjoyed the playful griminess the original had, and dub Narancia's more edgy voice makes me miss it more (somewhere between the two would have been the best for me). Either way he sounds like a tough guy fuckboy, and I can't argue with that.
Pesci: Mellower than the original when he speaks normally, which was both a relief to the ears and threw me off a bit because I was worried that he would just sound dopey for the most part, but I do hear the shrillness when he is spooked and anxious, so this is a really good fit and I would probably enjoy hearing more of it.
Melone: This is okay, I guess? It feels a little more rigid than the original, and sometimes makes him sound more butch than he needs to be, but it does a good job of giving him a detached and intellectual tone where he needs it. A little too detached, perhaps, because it doesn't convey the original's excitement very well.
Prosciutto: I see they did their best to give him a smooth cool guy voice, and it feels fine as a stand-alone, but I am very partial to his original voice so I definitely miss not just the deeper voice but the harder grit. Without it he sounds too generic for me, and his lines don't really help because they make him too pretentious.
Risotto: This one was a big miss for me because you can absolutely tell that the voice actor is trying to sound deeper than his range allows. I would have cast someone with a naturally deep voice, even if they might sound a bit more wooden as a result, just to nail the fact that everything about him is big from body to voice.
Illuso: Now *his* voice would have made a good Formaggio voice. There is that edge and irreverence that I was looking for, though I can see why Illuso was the one to get this voice, since he's taller and more subtly menacing than Formaggio. Side by side it feels justified, but I would have liked a more oily voice for him.
Ghiaccio: Oh, this one is fun! I'm neutral on his original voice, but the fact that it was really well captured and the yelling is top notch makes this my biggest favorite of the seven! He sounds young and properly angry and his is the one arc I would actually want to watch in the dub version based on the voice alone.

one minor gripe i have with the dub is that sometimes a pokemon will make animal noises in the japanese version but they'll change it so that they say their names in english instead

It’s so annoying when an English voice actor is revealed to be a trash ass person, weebs go and say “ThIS iS WhY SuBs Or JaPaNEsE ArE BetTER!!” Like a fucking dumbass.
They do know that Japanese voice actors can be just as bad or even worse than the English ones right? It’s even worse in Japan because the vas get way with the fuck up shit they do. At least some of the awful vas here get some kind of backlash for their actions. Also I know these fucking weebs would keep on supporting trash ass manga artists and Japanese voice actors because they themselves are trash ass people.
They need to keep these stupid “subs are better” shit out of this. It makes them look like clowns. Fucking hate weebs so much!

Saw someone saying that Dio didn’t respect Jonathan and was only acting like he did to stay alive
There are many problems with this
First of all; Dio has no reason to lie about this. Yes, Dio is a conniving bastard, but he KNOWS that Jonathan isn’t going to want to give up his head. Why would he try tricking Jonathan into it?? He doesn’t go “hey I respect you so please can I have your head uwu (hates you)” he goes “you are the only person to ever best me and I respect you for that. I’m going to take your body as a sign of my respect, whether you like it or not (genuinely respects you)”
And then, once Jonathan does die, why would he keep the charade up? Why does he mourn the loss of his brother for even a second if he thinks that Jonathan is the scum of the earth? Shouldn’t he be celebrating gleefully that he outlasted Jonathan? No, because even Dio, especially in part 1, still has some emotion left. He still has a brief moment of grief. Jonathan was his rival, his equal, the only person who truly knew him, not just following him blindly or hating him from word of mouth. Even though Jonathan knew how evil Dio was, he still showed Dio empathy, and even if Dio thinks that Jonathan was an idiot for doing that, he still respects him, and maybe even loves him in a weird joker/Batman style way.
We actually see a moment when Dio despises Jonathan, after the time skip when they’re both 18, Dio is lying to Jonathan and is pretending to like him while hating his guts. We’ve seen Dio lie about respecting someone before, and the final scene of part 1 isn’t that in any way. Dio genuinely respects Jonathan, and I’m tired of people claiming he doesn’t.

Me: The PMD anime specials are fun but man they do so many little things and changes to the plot of the games that they bug me and I'm glad there isn't really a question that they're canon to the games or superior in any way
Also Me: Fuck you Special Episode 5 if you check the anime special you CLEARLY see that the Sableye do NOT fear Dusknoir and are his special little guys!!!!!!!!!!

as someone who has issues reading, is the dungeon meshi anime worth the watch so far? ive been wanting to get into it forever and it keeps showing up on my dash, your blog especially which makes me want to trust your judgement lmao
there's only one episode out so far, but I definitely think it's worth watching!!! It seems like it's going to be a faithful adaptation, and I ADORE the manga. It's got some of the best fantasy world building I've seen in ages, the characters are all compelling, the art is STUNNING, and it's got a good balance of humor while slowly becoming more tense as the stakes rise (while still having a good amount of humor to break the tense moments). Also every recipe makes me so fucking hungry. So yeah, I highly recommend it! There's only one episode so far, but it feels like they're adapting it as closely as possible and keeping things consistent with the spirit of the manga, so I think it'll be a good adaptation :]
