Wow, this is a blast from the past. I could probably remake this digitally, but still, over 1500 notes?

I'm not as invested in the Summer Job Au anymore (I've been in multiple different Fandoms since then, Scooby Doo, Animaniacs, Jojo and most recently Transformers) but if anyone's interested in seeing this old work of mine, have at it.

Remember when I reblogged a post from @everystarstorm about the Multibear and this crossover? Well, this was the idea I had in mind. Basically, after the incident with the Multibear, Dipper realizes that despite being able to talk things out with your enemies and come to a peaceful resolution is preferable, that doesn't mean that there aren't going to be those that won't want to settle down for a chat. So, he wants to be ready, he wants to defend himself. At this point, I wouldn't say he idolizes Steven, but he definitely looks up to him and has seen him fight, so he thinks that Steven would be his best bet to learn how.

Now, Steven being a teacher is a finicky thing. We've seen him coach and lead seminars, but an actual sparring class? I think he'd channel his inner Pearl and Garnet for this, with a little Amethyst for more light-hearted moments. He'd be strict like Pearl, yes, but he'd understand that they are fighting for each other, like he and Connie do. I like to think he'd even bring some meditation into his classes, Garnet would certainly be a believer in "to have a strong body is to have a strong mind" like Izumi from Fullmetal Alchemist.

Honestly, I can see him being a more lenient and kind version of Izumi as a teacher. Definitely not as cruel in his methods, he'd have Steven-style Encouragement the entire time, but he wouldn't just go easy on the twins, knowing first hand what can happen in a fight. I have some more on this particular thought, but that'll have to go in a different post.

The two scenes of Steven sparring with Dipper and Mabel separately are based off of the sparring scene between Edward and Alphonse after Edward's recovery from Automail Surgery. Steven taking the place of Alphonse and the Twins taking the place of Edward.

The bottom scene is based on a picture of Izumi scolding Ed and Al after a practice when they were young.

A sketch for the Summer Job AU (updated)

I had this idea for the Summer Job AU where instead of getting a job for the summer first, Steven is thrown into the Mystery Shack’s workplace during the spring time in order to pay off his debt for defacing public property: Steven saw trouble in front of the Mystery Shack while passing through and got into a fight with a gem monster, leading to the said defacing of property. And somewhere along the way, Steven does get to work off his debt just before the summer begins, except he actually considers working there full time for the summer and becomes an employee.

I just had this idea. Steven was only responsible for cleaning up the Mystery Shack lot. He still hasn’t told anyone of his gem powers yet, so most of the time Steven would spend all-nighters just cleaning up and gardening. Can you imagine how impressed Stanley would be when he sees how new his property looks and just assumes Steven is a hard worker with a green thumb? I think that could be a reason why Steven considered gardening while working in the Mystery Shack.

Stan would have likely discovered Steven’s gem powers and not pay it any mind because you know “as long as it helps get the mess cleaned up, doesn’t matter to me.” Until he does eventually start paying closer attention to Steven’s gem powers and thinks about the portal.

I think Soos and Steven would get along just fantastic. You have a handyman who can fix anything and a hybrid who can bond broken materials back together with his powers.

Then somewhere in the middle of summer, Steven unconsciously starts carrying all the load around the Shack, just like he did at Little Homeschool. He’ll still be keeping tabs on his therapist and keeps talking to his friends and family, but you know sometimes old habits do die hard. Steven will likely be sleep deprived because of Bill slipping into his dreams and that makes him try to cover up any trace of his stress around everyone.

Anyway, that was the concept for this AU and I just drew over the older sketch. That’s some weak line art. See how tired Steven is? Maybe he’s wearing eyeliner. Idk

Ah, I'm sorry. I got this ages ago, I don't go through my inbox very often.

To answer your question, I guess I just fell out of it. Tends to happen with my fixations. So the su gf au was when I was on my Steven Universe kick following the end of Future. After that I think I latched onto Animaniacs for a little while then the Henry Stickmin Collection. Then it was Jojo's Bizarre Adventure for like a year and currently its Transformers stemming from the release of the Rise of the Beasts movie.

I know shows like My Hero, Owl House, Loki, and Monkie Kid are sparsed in there, but they never developed into fixations. A new show has been trying to butt in (Arcane) but I'm trying to keep that one as a background fandom (the show is amazing, I will admit) and not a fixation considering the source material (I do NOT want to get involved with League of Legends, ESPECIALLY not the game itself... and I'm pretty sure many LoL players share the sentiment.)

As for if the au will continue? Mm... probably not? At least not for a while. Steven Universe and Gravity Falls have become background fandoms for me, ever present and reliable for fics and crossovers, but not my main concern. Besides, I was only really jumping on the band wagon while it was going, I don't really have any idea where to go with it.

Though I highly suggest reading through the rest of the series as well from the beginning, it gives a lot of context for some of the events in these stories. These are just the stories with Gravity Falls in the tags, "We Coded the Oregon Trail" seems like the big one.

This story in particular has influenced my headcanons for Steven Universe, Gem biology, the age of the Diamond and their origins, Gemsong, and a whole slew different things for how Steven's powers work. I followed this story from the beginning to its completion and I highly recommend it!
