Idea: give one of the player characters a little shoulder angel and devil. Nobody else can see them, but they’re pretty quiet when others are around anyway. The devil is gleefully evil and the angel is strictly good, and as the campaign goes on you can subtly shift the angel’s advice. Gradually, it stops giving good reasons for the things it suggests, and stops arguing as effectively against the devil.

The big reveal? The little shoulder devil is real, but it set up a straw man illusion of an opponent for itself. By assuming there was a struggle between good and evil, the player character will be led down the path of wickedness…

i'm writing (big surprise) and i just can't drop the whole rewriting of END thing. WHERE'S THE SCARRING AND WHERE'S NATSU FEELING FAINT SHIVERS THAT GIVE HIM A SENSE OF LUCY THAT HE NEVER CAN GET RID OF (not that he wants to ofc) AND WHERE'S THE SCENE OF HER TELLING HIM ABOUT IT, ACCIDENTALLY ADMITTING THAT SHE COULD HAVE DIED, BUT SHE DID IT ANYWAYS AND NATSU JUST VOWS TO SPEND HIS ENTIRE LIFE REPAYING HER BECAUSE HE KNOWS THAT SHE SAVED HIM OUT OF PURE LOVE AND HE CAN'T DENY IT AND THEY CRY IN EACH OTHER'S ARMS JUST BECAUSE THEYRE SO HAPPY THEY BOTH SURVIVED THE WAR

People like to romanticize the relationship between Zelda and Link in a whole “destined reincarnated soulmates” kind of way, but am I the only one who thinks it would be more interesting if Link didn’t love Zelda?

Like, think of it. Hylia is a Goddess, basically Hylian Jesus, and she loves this mortal man. A hero who stepped forward to defeat a Devil in the world’s hour of greatest need. But, he didn’t do it for her, he did it for the World. Even when he binds his soul to the Triforce, locking himself in an endless pattern of reincarnation with her against the Devil Demise, it’s not because he loves her. He loves Hyrule and its people.

But that’s okay, maybe in the next life they can be?

But it isn’t. Over and over, Hylia becoming Zelda, Link doesn’t love her. He loves Hyrule. He loves to dance to its music and ride its fields and wants to preserve it against the threat of Demise. He loves different women each time, and sometimes it is Hylia’s reincarnation, but they’re never the core of his heart.

It’s always Hyrule that he loves. From it’s savage and arid deserts to the cold and harsh tundra, he loves it, and steps forward to save it each time.

Duty, he calls it. Responsibility and Purpose, but Hylia/Zelda knows the truth. He’ll never love her the way she wants him to.

Hyrule will always be Link’s first and greatest love.

Challenge:

Invent a new monster, or at least one that you're almost certain doesn't exist in the setting of the game you're playing. Your character is invested in proving otherwise - starting a fan club, doing pseudoscientific research, and generally suspecting that this cryptid is at the heart of every plot until proven otherwise.

Imagine a Pathfinder character obsessed with the legend of the Beholder, or a Call of Cthulhu investigator who corresponds with Arthur Conan Doyle about fairies! You can do it as a running joke and then see if the GM decides to pull a fast one on you and use the creature as a plot hook! Just don't make it your only defining character trait...

Idea: play a wizard/barbarian who spent several years living with a group of ogres to learn their magic. Sometimes they use metaphors or quotes that they learned in their Giant immersion experience.

Captain Marvel prompt

(Billy and Cap are 2 sepparate entities that can exist at the same time in the RoE, why, because why not so bear with me)

Justice league goes to the Rock of Eternity because reasons and there they see Captain Marvel hovering a bit above the ground clearly meditating, next to him they see a young scruffy boy about 10 years old, being held by the hood of his jacket thanks to magic. The boy is clearly unhappy about being held captive that way

"can I please get down now?"

"will you let me meditate in peace?"

"I think we both know the answer to that question"

"then no"

The league is preplexed with what are they witnessing and have no idea how to react. Who is that boy? How does he know Marvel? How does Marvel know him? Why is he at the Rock of Eternity? Are they related?

Bruce immediately hops to the theory that the boy is Marvels son, mostly because the tone of Marvels voice was much known to him thanks to his children, and the fact that he trapped his kids in "air jail" multiple times before. Yes even as adults
