I think becoming an adventurer is probably not quite the same as joining the church… not quite the same respectability, and money can only go so far to keep you alive in the dungeon at level one. This does help explain the Old School class features where you get a keep and retainers, though. Kings are a bit more comfortable giving land and lances to the successful daughter of their marquis, rather than to some peasant.
Here’s an idea, if you do go with the “extra nobles join the church” model: Let clerics and monks have Knowledge (nobility) as a class skill, since they would likely have colleagues from various wealthy families!
"But how can you justify a player character with a (non-disinherited) noble background in a dungeon-crawling fantasy game" well, the most obvious approach is a fantasy setting whose nobility practices cognatic primogeniture where, instead of "first son inherits, second son goes into the military, third son becomes a priest", it's "first son inherits, second son goes into the military, third son becomes an adventurer". From the player's perspective, it handily explains why the title comes with little material support from the family; from the family's perspective, there's an unspoken understanding that most of the spare heirs will be eaten by a dragon (or whatever), thereby simplifying the inheritance situation, and the few survivors will become great assets.
(There is, of course, the possibility that a surviving third son, having grown powerful and understandably harbouring some slight resentment, may return, kill his elder brothers with dark magic, and take over the dynasty, but in practice this almost never happens.)

What does your character do on a bad day?
Do they have a comfort movie / tv show that makes them feel better?
Do they prefer to listen to sad songs to match their mood, or happy songs to lift their spirits?
Do they like to be around friends when they're sad, or would they rather be alone?
Do they have any go-to foods or treats that cheer them up?
Are there any activities like journaling, exercising, painting, etc that help them release their feelings?

a fun idea i will do nothing with.
basically making a radio show (like welcome to nightvale) but with billy batson as the radio host. Fawcett gets forecasts about demons, warnings about time shifts, updates on captain marvel and his villains, and updates on the caps patrons and what they've been doing around town.
"my producers would like me to warn drivers that Mercury is currently on Mainstreet challenging people to car races. please refrain from racing him. unless you are really good at driving. then please give him a challenge. the mayor is currently trying to convince the flash to come and race him instead. we'll let you know if there are any updates. onto the weather; there is a 100% of magical showers. Take your evil eye with you to ward of the curses of your enemies. they are aiming for you."

Gosh, I have no idea how I'm going to put this into words but I'm gonna try my best.
I have a lot of feelings about Jimmy's canary status and such.
For four seasons he has been the first out, he's the canary. He signals the start of the end and for four seasons that was very true. And Jimmy hated it. He hated being out first everytime. Everyone around him either pitied him or made fun of him for being out first and Jimmy started to hate himself for how bad he was at the game.
And then came Secret Life.
As we all know, he wasn't the first out. And he was ecstatic. Even after dying second not ten minutes later, he cared more about the fact that he wasn't out first. He claimed the curse was broken and now we continue to see this into Wild Life.
Now, where am I going with this?
I think the Watchers are doing this on purpose.
There has always been something about Jimmy that the Watchers have clung on to. And up until this point, I thought the Watchers despised him. I mean, being the one cursed to always be out first, to be the one that warns your friends of their deaths, that's not fun. That's straight up torture.
But now, I don't think they despise him. I think they see to use him.
Think about it! The Watchers, for four seasons, have pummeled Jimmy's self confidence into the ground. Has made everyone see him as a loser. He started getting hopeless, started feeling like nothing was ever going to change.
And then it did change, in Secret Life, and he wasn't out first. Now, being out second is really not any better but it wasn't about that. Jimmy was starting to feel like, maybe he could actually do this! Maybe he could even win.
And then session 3 of Wild Life happened.
The Watchers did this on purpose. They gave him hope by not being out first in Secret Life and then let things get crazy in session 3 of Wild Life for Jimmy. Jimmy had it pretty bad in session 3 and I know a lot of us didn't have a lot of hope for him after that. Of course, session 4 went a different way than we were all expecting but again, that kind of plays into things.
The Watchers have torn Jimmy down, given him a little hope, and then tore him down again. And they did this to get Jimmy right where they wanted him.
Because Jimmy, before session 5, prayed to the Watchers. He asked them, begged them to please not let him be out first. To please let the canary curse well and truly die.
And they answered.
And Jimmy wasn't out first.
And now Jimmy is putty in their hands.

Scorching Ray is the most simplified version - a two-dimensional manifestation of fire at level 2. Fireball is one step up, as a three-dimensional burst and a level 3 spell.
Behold! The Flaming Hypercube! 4th level evocation, verbal and somatic components, plus the material component (a glass cube). Range: 60 feet. Area: a cube 15 feet on each side and on another side you can’t perceive.
Creatures in the area when you cast this spell, as well as creatures who were in the area in the last three rounds, must make a Dexterity (Reflex) save or take 10d8 fire damage (save halves).
Fireball is actually an unfinished, unstable spell.  It’s just, no wizard has ever been ballsy enough to try and cast the complete version before.

rewatching mia and me
how do you feel about lyria adopting mia?
uunnmmmm man I gotta do that too. I literally forgot all of Mia and Me related stuff jshdjdhfl<sfd
Tumblr media
But while I was crying over my lack of free time I decided to let out some steam. Have these sketches for a possible AU where Mia can turn into a pegasus and Lyria into something similar to an elve!

Idea: when fighting a werewolf, cast Invisibility on them!
Possible benefits: if moonlight isn’t shining on them (it would go through without reflecting) they might turn back into a person.
Possible downsides: invisible werewolf.

The E6 variant rules for Dungeons and Dragons offer a cool option for players to explore this “human scale adventuring” for their whole career! The maximum level you can attain is 6, so fighters and spellcasters are still fairly balanced with each other. And don’t worry about getting bored - you can still gain new abilities with your adventuring experience, it’s just about breadth rather than depth (more skills and feats).
Idea: to represent the diverse and varied training of your adventurers, give them the ability to change their combat feats or their spells with a bit of work or training! For a fighter, it could take an hour of practice and reflecting on the archer they just faced. For a barbarian, it could take a day of downtime and some calisthenics. For a sorcerer, it might take a week of drinking strange potions and attuning their aura to a different frequency!
E6 is not for becoming a world-shattering hero. Any magic bigger than a Fireball is rare and expensive in materials and time! If you want to take on superhuman enemies like a dragon or storm giant, you’ll need to be careful and clever, because you can’t just go toe to toe with them. But if you want to play a group of adventurers just trying to get by? This could be the system for you.
There is just something so charming about low level fantasy.
I love stories about a simple band of adventurers exploring a nondescript dungeon. Simple spells, cheap equipment, iconic monsters.
Stories where getting lost in the tunnels and level 2 skeletons are real threats and challenges. Stories where victory takes the form of a turned in quest, a pouch of coins, and a good meal.
I don't want a band of the realm's mightiest heroes looking to save the planes, I want a group of adventurers trying to get by.
I think that's why I like Dungeon Meishi so much. Not because of its similarities to D&D, but because of its differences.

Based on something i read awhile back where someone said that 'The Princess Bride' could be remade and possibly well, because the idea of it is the imagination of a child. That you could show the imagination of a child in countless, endless ways.
That stuck with me, and what if 'the Princess Bride' was a mini series. each episode a chapter, each chapter read by another grandparent, parent, child, to their ailing love one. A child sick in the hospital imagines her handsome doctor as Wesley. An elderly woman in hospice imagines herself and her husband young as Wesley and Buttercup as her husband reads to her. A little boy sees his towering, lovable uncle as Fezzik. A young man reads to his grandfather, who sees his best friend who passed in war as Inigo. A kid first imagines their new step-father as Prince Humperdink but slowly, the characters switch in their mind as they realize how much the man cares for them. Each episode the characters switch, connect, flow together, showing how imagination and love are an interconnecting thread in everyone's lives. The story of how a story like 'The Princess bride' not only brings people together, but is something that we all share, no matter who we are, where we came from, what we do, we all share something we love. The greatest love story ever told, truly becomes about love in all it's ceaseless forms.

People like to romanticize the relationship between Zelda and Link in a whole “destined reincarnated soulmates” kind of way, but am I the only one who thinks it would be more interesting if Link didn’t love Zelda?
Like, think of it. Hylia is a Goddess, basically Hylian Jesus, and she loves this mortal man. A hero who stepped forward to defeat a Devil in the world’s hour of greatest need. But, he didn’t do it for her, he did it for the World. Even when he binds his soul to the Triforce, locking himself in an endless pattern of reincarnation with her against the Devil Demise, it’s not because he loves her. He loves Hyrule and its people.
But that’s okay, maybe in the next life they can be?
But it isn’t. Over and over, Hylia becoming Zelda, Link doesn’t love her. He loves Hyrule. He loves to dance to its music and ride its fields and wants to preserve it against the threat of Demise. He loves different women each time, and sometimes it is Hylia’s reincarnation, but theyre never the core of his heart.
It’s always Hyrule that he loves. From it’s savage and arid deserts to the cold and harsh tundra, he loves it, and steps forward to save it each time.
Duty, he calls it. Responsibility and Purpose, but Hylia/Zelda knows the truth. He’ll never love her the way she wants him to.
Hyrule will always be Link’s first and greatest love.
