resubmitting my design project at the last minute bc I realized that while I cropped this one Very suggestive image in the actual assignment I sure forgot to crop it in the image citation list and knowing my prof he will scroll through the whole thing on the projector in class and not that my classmates aren't all technically adults but like.. should probably crop it

2.6.23 Lunchtime drawing: My studio mate Yael Ben-Simon, check out her paintings online -- and thanks for sitting for ten minutes so I could make a sketch. Perhaps a new series within this drawing-a-day series, "Brooklyn Navy Yard Artist" portraits.

i was getting tattooed today and my artist and his studiomate were discussing the fallout show and i was like i have not seen it but i know the hot goop guy and they were like oh yeah him. no nose guy. and i was like yeah. and my artist goes so is voldemort hot too? and the studiomate says he DOES lack a nose and i was like no. no it’s not the nose thing it’s—but i was actively being poked continuously with a needle in my side and couldn’t focus and finally went ok you need to stop that for a minute so i can explain my passions

Do you work out of a studio at home or do you have a separate building as your studio?? I'm sorry if this is invasive, your art is just gorgeous and I am trying to gauge if I can do the same thing!
No worries! Thank you :3
I personally am in a renting situation, though a very nice one. I share my space with a studiomate who has been for the most part away at grad school! The space is in a big house, we keep it active since the original potter who worked in it for many years has passed away and his widow rents it out to grads from the school I attended. I have an area that is probably 12 x 8 feet to work in, with several tables, a wedging table, large shelves, with a nice sink and a large kiln space in our basement where we have a small test kiln and a medium barrel electric kiln I fire everything else in! We also have a photo booth space for photography in the basement.
I am currently in the process of househunting etc. and fully plan for the next place I live to have an in-home studio though! I like the space I rent but I have limited hours + I hesitate to make more sensitive work when other people are looking at me working haha. I am really looking forward to having my own place.
Please let me know if you have further questions or want specifics, I can totally give you a rundown on what I would consider 'essential' things to have in a sculpture studio space so that it would run efficiently for you :) (I can also take a video or photos of my workspace if yall would like!)

friendly note; careful with those marble dishes, if you hear pinging. I’ve had studiomates try it, and after a while the glass started shivering off into razor sharp slivers (the nice crackle effect is because there is a different coe/shrinkage rate, so the glass pulling itself apart) It’s super pretty, but seeing it on highly touchable objects strikes fear into my heart… 💔
yes! definitely a concern. my plan is to cover it in a clear coat of some kind, just to be safe. I’m not sure I’ll be selling these ones anyway, shipping them would be a nightmare

I ALMOST never do non-guitar or amp-related posts. And I have literally NEVER done PINBALL MACHINE post! But I just got back from my tour of the @yorkville_sound factory with @marshalllespaulfan and this so cool and "Toronto" that I figured I'd make an exception! 😉
Dig this totally insane Rush pinball machine that Yorkville has set up in their @traynor_amps museum! It's a working pinball machine, and also a juke box blasting Rush's greatest hits all day long! I'd love to work in an office where Rush was blasting every day when I got in! "Begin the day with a friendly voice" as it were... 😉
In fact, there's a little "Rush corner" in the Traynor Museum which includes some very interesting pieces used by the band on the R40 tour...but those deserve a complete post of their own. I won't say "amps"...but very much *like* amps? I can't describe them...you'll just have to wait and see! 😂
I do want to say a huge thanks to James and Ashley from Yorkville Sound for hosting and showing us around the production facility and warehouse (where EVERY @gibsonguitar guitar sold in Canada passes through and is QC-ed before being shipped out!), and introducing us to so many Yorkville staff who could not have been more friendly and welcoming - including @oldcrowcustomguitars whom I have been following on Insta for literally years (PS: thanks for showing me my first PLEK machine!)
Everyone we talked to was super proud, positive, and happy to talk about the work they are doing here - manufacturing the highest quality amplifiers and speaker cabinets, right here in Canada. It was a super positive experience and great to see.
More pics from the museum to follow! Including those mystery Rush "amps" alluded to earlier... 🤣

i feel like some sort of caged songbird lol. i cant remember what i love about music. the only way i can reach it now is singing and playing guitar quietly alone in my bedroom. i wanted to perform so badly and i feel like grad school just broke me....i was so excited and hopeful going in and then i broke under pressure. my studiomates were starring in the operas and i was trying to take care of myself.
taking criticism is just so fucking hard. i dont know how people do it. i literally cant take it without crying. i never make a scene but theres always tears brimming in my eyes or leaking down my cheeks and its so fucking embarrassing. and then i stand and smile while im told i just need to put feeling into it and to use more chest voice but dont use it here because it doesnt blend and it sounds ugly and to sing mozart bc i cant sing strauss but your voice is too small so you might as well just sing bach except bach is too hard for you. just act a little more. just put more feeling into it. that was great but theres no feeling behind it. are you thinking about a feeling? do you care about this at all? do you honestly think youre going to make it out there with a voice like this? you cant get anywhere just by having a pretty voice, you know.
