During the first warm rainy night of the year, thousands of salamanders make their migration to vernal pools. On this big night, summoned by the warm humidity they will mate and lay eggs, continuing the cycle of existence.

the cicadas may be a ways off from crawling out of their shells and leaving their lives underground behind, but for me they are an eternal reminder of cycles and transition. it’s time to emerge, reemerge, or stay burrowed just a bit longer. here’s to a better year, to the fall of every evil empire, to us all continuing to fight for collective liberation and a free Palestine.
