Happy #2021 to my followers! This is a strange #1stpostof2021💥 but I’m cleaning out my #studio to move into a larger space (after 16 years) to get ready for @pencilishstudios -and I found this! It’s a metal box I made in middle school in Metal Shop Class (back when that was a thing! I Actually welded those corners with an arc welder- Back when you gave kids dangerous tools in the classroom! Anyway, inside the box are a couple treasures- a Mighty Mouse and Bat-Bat sticker toy (from #burgerking ?) from the 90s (first #tvshow I worked on!) and three #totoro magents from the @studioghibliofficial gift shop from my bro @pumbaaguy when he went to Japan in 1998 for the #mulan premiere. Another day more doodling. I was a little inspired by @kimjunggius again. I also watched @studioghibliofficial movie “The Secret World of Arrietty” with my almost 4 yr old. It’s a great challenge to work on the skill of observing and retaining what I saw and then putting it down on paper without reference. Observation is the key to good drawing IMO. I feel like we all either draw from what we think something should look like or without understanding of the subject. What I mean by that is even if you’re copying reference photos if you don’t have the fundamentals down it can looks stiff and clunky. I’m speaking from experience. You look at my work and think this guys amazing. The best so good. Haha. But seriously. It’s work y’all. It takes work. I’m frustrated at times more than I am satisfied. A lot of times it’s because I haven’t done my homework. I haven’t done the work to try to truly understand what’s going on with what I’m drawing. If you walk by an animation class and look at the drawings they post. Most of not all are full of energy, but most importantly believable because of their understanding of the foundation. You don’t just grab wood and build a house. You need a foundation to add to. Then you can soar from there. Remember to look, study, observe, register, and retain what you’re looking at before you touch the paper. Or....just draw. All the best. Day26: the walk to school is always an enjoyable one. Reason one is seeing my daughter excited to go to school. Almost everyday she literally runs to school. She wants us to play chase with her. It’s great. Knock on wood this continues. I also enjoy the walk to school because I know that soon I’ll be child free for a period of the day. This piece inspired by upcoming #halloween celebrations. Also by @studioghibliofficial “Spirited Away.” We watched that as a family this weekend with my daughter. This was her second time watching it. Jadi cerita nya gini guys.. Kemarin habis nonton My Neighbors the Yamadas dari @studioghibliofficial Terus ending lagu nya seperti ini, gue dengerin lagu nih sampai akhirnya beberapa menit kemudian gue ngikutin nyanyiin dah.. Kebetulan di ending movie ny ada lirik nya. Yang bisa gue ikutin itu Que Sera Sera.. Akhirnya setelah beberapa detik kemudian ku tersadar lagu nya mirip iklan Holcim si semen ituu!!
