Today’s StreamINK 2023 prompt is pattern
This piece is about intergenerational trauma, alcoholism, recognizing harmful patterns and breaking them.

I'm a little behind, only because I want to make my doodles better before posting them, whoops. For today's StreamInk though I was able to draw a Bowser from Origami King, where he gets folded into a square Origami.
Here is a link to the Carrd, if you would like to join in!

Inktober day 31: DIVINE
Little bit unbalanced but oh well, you know. It's a thing.

This is a weirdly emotional piece for me despite it looking very straight forward. I combined the prompts memory and egg because this is a big memory for me. For those who didn’t know my mom passed away at the beginning of the year after a long battle with alcoholism. So many of my good memories of her involve food. She was a great cook and was always very good about making sure we weren’t forced to eat anything we didn’t like. We had to try new foods, but if we didn’t like them after giving them a chance there was always another option for us, even though it involved a lot of extra cooking work.
We have eggs Benedict at Christmas pretty much every year with extremely lemony hollandaise, but I don’t like ham. We went through a few iterations on eggs benny a la Katie and landed on smoked salmon and sautéed spinach (one of my fave veg she made) instead of ham.
My mom was so ill over last Christmas she didn’t get to be home to make or eat eggs benedict and passed shortly after so this one hit me especially hard. Even the most simplistic seemingly innocuous things can turn into grief and this is an example of that.

I’m so pleased with how this one turned out! I did watercolor fabric patterns then cut and stitched them together just like a regular quilt block! The quilt block pattern is a pretty basic one called bear paw that I really liked as a kid. This one also features my Color In Focus for the month burnt umber. All of the fabric patterns have burnt umber in them.

A piece for Stream Ink 2023! Based off of the prompts "onesie" and "fairy." I came up with an idea of a little kid who is allowed to wear whatever he wants on the day his mom has to go to the laundromat. This is Bim, his real name is Tim but he doesn't like the harsh sound T makes so he asks to be called Bim. He got to wear his dino onesie, fairy wings, and mismatched socks to the laundromat as long as he promised to behave while they were washing his favorite blankey.

My piece for StreamINK 2023 prompts antique and raven. I used a combo of colored and watercolor pencils and then sprayed it with water to get the drippy effect. I love how it turned out!

The final prompt of StreamINK 2023: divine I decided to do some divinity candy because it seemed appropriate to do a sweet treat for Halloween! Happy Halloween and thanks for all the support this month!

Another piece for the StreamInk 2023 prompt reflection. I did a literal interpretation for yesterday’s piece but this one is more about self reflection. The line on this piece is from a short story on tumblr by @lustfulpasiphae about a selkie discovering her lover is offering her a different kind of love than selkies usually get - one with freedom. When the selkie asks why her lover has stolen her cloak to keep her the lover responds “is that the shape of love that you desire?”
That phrase has stuck with me since I originally read the story and has become a mantra for me to cultivate the shapes of love I want in my life. If I’m upset about how someone is treating me I ask “is that the shape of love I desire?” If I see the way someone I thought better of treats someone else I say “that is not the shape of love I desire.”
This short story truly changed the way I think about the power I have over what kinds of energy I have in my life and I’m much healthier for it. With the author’s permission I’ll be selling prints of this piece and please go read the story for yourself here: tumblr.com/lustfulpasiphae/164042082235

My StreamINK 2023 piece for prompts puppet and reflection this is another one based off of a nightmare I had where a puppet was riding a carousel and it looked normal enough, until you saw its reflection in the mirror where you could see its true face.

More StreamINK - this one is for prompts three and eleven, peace and tea. For me there’s that glorious moment of peace when your tea hits just the right temperature and you can wrap your hands around your mug and ground yourself in the moment as the heat sinks into your hands. That was my immediate idea for peace before I read the rest of the prompt list and saw tea.
Prints of this one, and all my other StreamINK paintings so far, are available on my inprnt! And patrons will get a chance to claim the original pieces before they go for sale publicly

The month in art! This is the first October art challenge I’ve managed to finish and I really love some of the pieces I made! I have one piece I’m definitely going to revisit but overall I’m very pleased with myself. I’m going to be working behind the scenes to get most of these pieces listed, but my patrons will get first pick so if there’s something you just can’t live without consider joining the Patreon club!

Here’s my piece for prompts 20 and 21 of StreamINK 2023 folktale and cursed! I’ve been rewriting a version of the classic fairytale The Six Swans on and off for a number of years and had always planned on making my own header art for it so I decided to take this opportunity!

Me realizing after I took this that there was a piece of eraser gunk stuck next to the gosling 😩
Here’s my piece for prompts 20 and 21 of StreamINK 2023 folktale and cursed! I’ve been rewriting a version of the classic fairytale The Six Swans on and off for a number of years and had always planned on making my own header art for it so I decided to take this opportunity! The six swans are actually six brothers who were cursed by a witch. Although my retelling is quite a bit different from the original! Hopefully I’ll be able to finish that soon and share it!

Another one for StreamINK this time the prompt is smoke. I thought if the combo of campfire and those people who purposefully set their marshmallows on fire and let them smoke after blowing out the flames.
What about you? How do you roast your marshmallows? Or is that not a thing at all where you are?
