I don't like Dark Choco's magic candy skill, so I'm gonna fix it

Before I can do that though, I need to explain the one we got. Dark Choco's current magic candy skill is called Downpour of Darkness, which is...fine. Aesthetically, we see Dark Choco raise his sword as it glows, before striking down and sending a wave of black and purple lightning. This is very similar to his base skill, the only difference being that instead of glowing red, the lightning glows purple. Likely as a reference to Dark Cacao.

This is a rather touching detail, as it gives a bit of attention to the main story in a subtle way. However I'm not sure how well it fits. While the Dark Choco of the main story has relinquished his sword, the one we have hasn't, it's tied to him permanently. So to reference him giving up the weapon he is currently using is...jarring. Rather, I think the magic candy should serve as a way to enhance the sword, which means I would keep the lightning red.

Onto mechanics, let's take a quick look at the skill's description.

Blades of darkness rain down on the enemies, dealing extra damage and inflicting them with a debuff increasing Darkness-type damage. The rest of the team will gain a buff increasing Darkness-type damage dealt.

The first part is just a straight up lie, in all the times I've seen Dark Choco's magic candy skill, I have never seen 'blades of darkness rain down on the enemies'. Unless it means the shards that fly off, but I doubt that. Back to the mechanics subject, this skill is...fine. Just fine. It's nothing special, in fact it's rather underwhelming, especially considering it's for one of my favorite cookies. I believe he deserves a better skill.

So here's what I would do.

The first change is the name, instead of Downpour of Darkness, I'm calling it Choking Darkness. To reference how stifled Dark Choco felt when he was fighting the sword's control, and lowkey failing. Aesthetically, I also want to make a reference to his description, specifically the part about dark clouds following him wherever he goes. Which implies he has a small amount of weather control, which is cool as fuck. At the start of the skill, when Dark Choco raises his sword, I want him to also summon black storm clouds. Which strike down on one specific enemy, while he still does the wave of lightning that damages all enemies. Ideally, this wave of lightning would also go on for slightly longer, being able to hit enemies who are further back.

Now, onto how the skill itself. Here is the new description.

Strikes the ground with his great sword, inflicting chain lightning upon the enemies. As well as summoning a dark cloud to strike the enemy with the highest amount of HP, inflicting Jamshed upon them. Deals a debuff increasing Darkness-type damage to all other enemies.

This is what Choking Darkness does. Dark Choco has a passive ability called Jamthirst, it doesn't activate until he activates his skill. When he does, he feeds on the enemy afflicted with Jamshed, which is a poison-like effect that drains their hp while healing Dark Choco, and only Dark Choco. Basically as if he's eating them to gain strength. It's dark, but so is wielding a weapon that in human terms is literally called The Blood Sword.

I'm hoping these changes would make this magic candy worthy for Dark Choco, he's been dealt a really bad hand by Devsisters likely. Part of me thinks that having him give up The Strawberry Jam Sword was a mistake, while I'm glad that he's happy now, I can't help but be upset that we haven't seen him since. Especially after we got baited in the trailer for Mystic Flour's update, and we only saw him once. And even then it wasn't him, just an illusion. There's a rewrite of the entire Mystic Flour story being created by @lexi-the-demon-69 which is planned to do him justice, I recommend checking it out. It's only got two chapters released so far, but I enjoyed reading it.

Regardless, the team could've done something to keep Dark Choco relevant. Either by having him remain an antagonist, or have him keep The SJS, and just not fight for Dark Enchantress anymore. Showing that while he has broken away from the toxic environment he was in, he's not completely free. Also it would give a chance to make the sword an actual character, and not just a plot device. It's implied to be sentient after all, or at least partially sentient.

You can pretty much tell what this au is about by the title but anyways:

Choco: I want to get this sword!

Cacao: No. I'm not letting you go out and get killed on a wild goose chase. Lemme.

[Tl;dr Cacao gets the sword, and while the soul jam is able to protect him from the curse, the curse starts seeping into it. (I've been making a lot of soul jam Aus recently 👀) ]

He notices that he's been more easily agitated, his mind has been being corrupted, and just generally stuff involving his beserk form (curse au who?) at an unprecedented amount, all while the sword is being inspected for any issues by researchers in the citadel for any issues. Realizing he's becoming more and more dangerous, and things might reach a boiling point, he runs away in the dead of night. Leading him eventually to the COD, but at that point the curse infecting his soul jam has corrupted enough of him to be unable to refuse their offer.

In this Au he's kinda unhinged but also silent, the voices in his head and the pain and regret surrounding him make it hard for him to think. DE despite some sorrow for her old friend is able to use this, because he doesn't have the mental capacity to deny any requests of bl00dshed. He's pretty much kinda dissociated from his actions. This all leads to the beginning of fights, attempts to help him, and issues at PV Kingdom.

Design:

His hair was slightly matted from his time in the woods, so DE had to cut it, along with that he's mostly wearing what he had under his usual clothes, but I'd imagine hed get something new later (like choco). He also got a bit of a gradient on his hair ^^ and some corruption on his face.

So is whatever this update is going to reveal that the Strawberry Jam Sword came from space, and is possibly a space parasite, perhaps similar to the way the symbiotes are in Marvel?

I mean that’d be cool, don’t get me wrong, and we’d finally have an answer about the SJS, at least in Ovenbreak since I don’t know if Kingdom would plan to follow that continuity, but I can’t deny it being from space feels like quite the left turn. It’d still be cool though, and I’m waiting for whatever this update is

IDK who's gonna read this, but you all seem to really like my dark choco posts.

So here's some things I noticed.

What's up with the Strawberry Jam Sword??

We know that the SJS (writing the full name would be tiresome) is a sword that changes in its design throughout the course of its use. Here are some examples:

In the sod costume (sovereign of darkness) specifically the gem is gone and seems to have taken full control of his body. I suppose the white on the young prince costume represents innocence and sod corruption of the mind and body, which could also be indicated by the amount of red on his costume each time, young prince having the least red, with only the eyes and gem, to sod, where red is very prominent in his design.

Also in the young prince costume his sword is on the left. No idea what that means though. Maybe he learned to keep his guard up, so he began to use his right hand? Idk.

However, what interests me is what makes the SJS change in the first place. Strawberry Jam in the cookie run universe is blood for cookies, so the SJS is also the Blood Sword for cookies.

Taking a look at the first image from the cookies of darkness event, the sword seems to have changed from the one in the young prince costume.

Of course we know that Dark Cacao Cookie doesn't die, just severely injured. (He's also in full armor in that scene, but no sword...?)

Anyways tldr I was too stupid to realize the BLOOD SWORD changes when BLOOD is shed.

Butttt, if this is true, why didn't the sword change when Dark Choco tried to off his pops for the SECOND time? (On the black citadel wall)

Maybe no blood was shed? Or that it only works once on cookies, since the sword registers them as dead?

What did he do to for the Sod to exist? Is the sod in a different timeline than Crob or Crk where he doesn't get redeemed?

Okay this is my several months long sketches of Strawberry before my laptop died.

Yes unlike many interpretations of what can be under her hood, I personally headcanon that her hair is green. Like this little thingy on top of real strawberries.

I also headcanon that due to her being made of strawberries(or at least flavored with them) Strawberry is unaffected to strawberry jam sword curse, and can wield its power without a risk being mind controlled

Also, berserk Strawberry cuz I like the trope when shy and quiet character is pissed enough to tear everyone apart:D

so, unoriginal idea, but i was thinking: "what if i made a cookie form for the strawberry jam sword?" so i did.

i think it would be an illusion created by the sword to assist in manipulation and stuff. i based it on dark choco cookie's past self, and i imagine it would shapeshift depending on whoever wields the sword.

I'll be going into more depth on the two's backstory. This is part 1, focusing on Berry Choco's side of the story.

There's an image at the end that some users may find to be eye straining. It also contains a bit of blood. Not gorey or graphic, but just in case you may find it disturbing.

Berry Choco doesn't actually mind control Dark Choco as this artwork I made may imply. He's very much dead and not conscious the whole time Dark Choco had the sword.

The sword itself is cursed with magic that amplifies whatever negative emotion you have tenfold. The 'voices' Dark Choco hears from the sword are echoes of his emotions amplified to a painful degree. This very magic was what led Berry Choco to his untimely demise. It didn't directly kill him, but it did lead him to destroy the new home Grape Choco found refuge in after the brothers had been separated.

Speaking of which, the brothers in their prime were undefeated warriors, fighting any foe that crossed their paths. As victories stacked up, they grew arrogant, facing more and more dangerous foes. One day, they decided to attack the great Jade Dragon, guardian of the heavens. However, they were over powered by the ancient beast, their powers stripped away from them, and each one banished to the furthest corners of the world, forced to wander about until they can find peace.

Berry Choco, furious and driven by pride and anger, scoured the lands in search of an answer to defeat anyone who dared stand in his way again. He stumbled across forbidden Strawberry Jam magic (essentially blood magic in human terms), and 'tweaked' it just a bit.

This however resulted in him being unable to control the magic, becoming too absorbed in his quest for bloodlust.

When he found his brother again, he was happy to see him, but was shocked when he realized Grape Choco no longer wanted to be a feared warrior, and had actually settled down, with a child on the way.

Berry Choco was left confused, hurt, angry, full of rage— especially towards his brother's partner. How dare they corrupt him! How could they have managed to convince him to just give up everything they've fought for?! Unable to accept his brother's new found life, he was consumed by this dark magic, and ended up destroying the village, killing so many people. And eventually, his brother's partner.

He died by the hands of Grape Choco Cookie, shortly after. The tale of the two brothers vanished into obscurity, turning into nothing more than a local legend. Though whispers of his cursed sword still remained. The only evidence of his existence.

Berry Choco Cookie was practically dead for the longest time. Until, somehow, he was resurrected, brought back as a ghoul, a living puppet of the dead. What's that you say? He can finally get his revenge..?

Today, we are going to be dissecting Dark Cacao and Dark Choco's relationship via MLP, because this song is just too good.

Ok so. This song. But in Dark Cacao and Dark Choco.

Ok so, to sum up my ramblings because I can't stop thinking about it.

Celesitia's verse is Dark Cacao after the events of chapters 13-14, when he finally realized what a douchebag he's been to, not only his son, but the entire kingdom basically. Failing his duties as a father due to his very not well mental status, as well as trying to keep up with the declining state of the kingdom. He loves Dark Choco, but unintentionally pushed him away and didn't make room to care for him more growing up.

"And Neither had [s]he loved [her] as [she] deserved. [S]he watched as [her sister's] unhappiness grew."

Dark Choco in turn, felt frustrated. He loves his father, but felt hurt and angry towards him. So he went in search of the sword, only for the dang thing to use his emotions against him and turn against his homeland.

I'm stealing this headcanon from the comics, but basically, in the comics, the sword's curse basically sort of enhances your strong negative emotions. In the comics, Dark Choco lost control when he believed his crush friend was hurt, and his anger took control over him, amplified by the sword's curse.

My interpretation of canon is somewhat similar. The strawberry jam sword amplified Dark Choco's emotions to the point where he lost control and attacked Cacao, resulting in his banishment. However, he still has some semblance of awareness and control over his actions. He still actively chooses the path of darkness, believing it to be the only path left he could travel. He still chose to hurt people, even when he knew that's not what he wanted. He didn't stop until the end of the cacao chapters.

Ok, back to the music. Luna's Soliloquy is basically Choco pre-chapter 13-14, and how despite how much he's (rightfully) angry, hurt, and upset at his father for what he did, he still misses him, and yearns to make things right.

"My pain grows, I can't know. Are you still the same?"

But after so long, and when he finally received some semblance of closure for what happened, the sword's grip on his soul weakened, because his negative emotions weakened. He was able to come to terms with what happened. He's still very much hurt, and is still recovering, but he's able to accept his emotions better. It'll take a while until they can both meet again, and make things right, but I can't help but think of their story whenever I listen to this song.
