I am struggling in my classes and idk what to do… I feel like the time flies by and I’m scrambling to get the work done and there’s always something wrong with it. I never struggle like this in school. It’s hard when all you want to do is sleep these days and you just got hired for a new job and it takes your energy.

You know what's interesting to watch is that I feel like a lot of people have very thoughtfully and maturely moved away from "I don't like this specific character/ship/fictional work and here's a reason why it's problematic" but we still have a lot of "if you don't like this specific character/ship/fictional it's problematic" floating around (and the more extreme example, "everyone who dislikes this one specific thing is a bigot") and the latter is actually way dumber. Like, it is valid, in fact, to dislike a specific work because it has unfortunate implications; the issue is just that analysis cannot simply stop there. It is rather less valid to say "if you don't like this one specific female character you are a misogynist;" that definitely requires a lot of more involved analysis into what specifically their criticisms are, patterns in their preferences, and even then, you are only basing this on internet mannerisms; I think someone who has no favorite characters who are women is unlikely to be deeply involved in feminist causes irl, but this is technically possible, and it's very easy to find the reverse case of people who are terrible to real women and champion fictional ones.

i just realised something. the whole oceangate thing mirrors the titanic in more than just the obvious ways.

in the titanic, they prioritised saving the rich people, the ones from first class. because of that, most of the people who died were poor, from second and third class.

now, my point is, we once again, ignored the poor people/prioritised the rich ones, this time with the refugee ship being almost complete ignored by the media and rescue teams exclusively trying to save the 5 rich guys instead of the 750 refugees.

One of my favourite lowkey parallels between Viren and Callum has always been their last real scene together in the hallway in 1x03. They’re both mages, both tethered to Harrow in something other than blood, and both caught amongst the chaos, not participating in the battle but still in the middle of it, so to speak, standing at literal opposite ends of said hallway.  

Viren, of course, isn’t doing anything. Moments ago he was on his knees in front of King Harrow and is still deeply embittered. Despite having his staff and some capabilities for dark magic on his person (like what let him take Callum’s voice) he doesn’t do anything. This has always been one of the biggest signs to be that Harrow is already dead (or displaced) by the time Viren leaves Harrow’s chambers and before the tower is attacked. 

Then on the other end you have Callum, who can’t do anything, at lest not yet. He gets his voice back, calls Harrow dad for the first time, and then has his attention drawn elsewhere, to his brother in the courtyard with the egg and the elf who will soon come to define both their destinies. 

One mage, who’s already given up on his king due to pride and years of resentment; one mage, who knows that he has to for the greater good of their remaining family. It’s such a perfect full circle of their juxtaposition from 1x02 with Viren offering to lay others’ lives down and hesitating to offer his own when the situation demands it, with Callum offering to lay his life down even when the situation decidedly doesn’t demand it. Viren was selfish enough to stay and do nothing, and Callum was selfless enough to leave at the hope of doing something.
