“You want a drink or are you just going to stand there all day?” Taliesin

                                                        ✧･ﾟ  𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐃.

       Crow’s Nest was usually buzzing with humans and fae alike at this late hour. Tal, leaning close to a handful of other Hounds near the dartboard, observed how the belly of the club had filled with more and more visitors over the past hours. The music wasn’t exactly his taste, but the customers were on the other hand. The rather alternative crowd mingled carelessly with the faeries and didn’t even know they were outnumbered, and it painted a faint, dismissive smirk on his face more than once to know something that they didn’t. HE WAS BORED. A mood you wouldn’t want to find him in as he was prone to purge it with the first compelling idea that came to his mind, and without a care how improper it was. As long as it entertained him.

       The fae didn’t know if Niall had read his mind when his voice suddenly reached him over the discordant music as he slowly turned his head to face him. He couldn’t be bothered to hide his thoughts, gazing upon THE CROWD OF PEOPLE, and when their eyes met, the smirk stretched into a lazy grin across his face that didn’t reach his eyes.

       ❛❛Trying to entice me to go anywhere near human dishwater like this is a lost battle, your majesty.❜❜ He nodded at Niall’s drink. There was a bit of a teasing, the tone almost mirroring the imbalance on Taliesin’s face. He’d never liked human food, or at least was picky beyond imagination. Unless it was him who touched it in the kitchen, preparing and serving meals and drinks, he only reluctantly dealt with it. However, the circumstance of Niall approaching him in a room filled with faeries and humans peaked his interest. Taliesin flashed a glance around, casually meeting the gaze of THE OTHER HOUNDS, before his eyes found Niall again. ❛❛How about a round of darts instead? Since you like your swill, I am more than happy to buy you another one… if you beat me.❜❜ He pushed himself off the wall, folding his arms. A hint of challenge gleamed in his stormgrey eyes. ❛❛You think you can do that?❜❜

       ❛❛Regret implies that we had a choice. Doesn't it?❜❜ Pointing that fact out for consideration, Taliesin seemed to sense what she was getting at. HE CAME TO A STOP. Arms folded, gaze travelling with unconcealed curiosity over the human standing in his faerie den. How strange the picture, how delicious as he took it in. This would've been deemed unthinkable just a while ago. And yet, here they were.

       The fae took a step towards Jessica, light dancing in stormgrey eyes as he leant down to mutter in passing: ❛❛You mortals tend to grow on us. One of the INAUSPICIOUS THINGS that come with your company.❜❜ A light grin curved his lips and accompanied the teasing answer to her silent hint. A disguised compliment as well because admitting that he liked being around her would be too much, too open.

       Taliesin strolled past her and approached the shelf Jessica had browsed through a minute earlier. All of the things found in here belonegd to him, although it looked like a different person might've collected the bundles of herbs and flowes dangling from the ceiling, just they could've collected the trinkets and made the potions. Tal was mainly a soldier. A good one, but he had to learn a lot of other things, too. When he found what he'd been looking for, he turned back to Jessica. A glass vial in his hand, the solution inside shimmering LIKE LIQUID MOONLIGHT.

       ❛❛Since you're my wife❜❜, he began, the grin glitching again across his otherwise smooth features, ❛❛I figured that maybe you should be able to navigate around this realm a bit... easier. It doesn't work with the strongest glamours, but if you rub it on your eyelids, you're able to see through most of them. Comes in handy if you don't know whether you're letting another cat in the house or something else.❜❜ Gently, he swayed it in his fingers, as if to ask if she was interested or not. It was in both of their interests, really. He couldn't use a dead wife with the kingdoms, so fragile - and for personal reasons. Obviously. // @nanlanmo

Oh was she familiar with the capriciousness of faeries. Tal hadn’t been her first lesson, but definitely the strongest lasting. From the start he’d flit between propriety and almost cruel teasing. Once they were on their own it was a little easier to manage, if only because there weren’t the prying eyes of either court to judge how they fought over… well… everything. Still, part of her wished that she might’ve been able to meet his family. Perhaps that was just the longing of a child that’d grown up in a broken one.

Jessica hummed a soft laugh at his comment about her dress and the ease his family would’ve had finding something about her to disapprove of. It’s not something she’s unused to. She’s spent more time than she’d like to admit conforming to ideals and expectation, this imaginary meeting would’ve been no different. What is different, however, is Taliesin. The way he spoke drawing a shade of almost suspicion over her features. They would have to deal with it. Did he mean that he would defend her? Defend the poorly built foundation of a future together that they’d built if his family had disliked her?

The sentiment settles something inside of her that she hadn’t realized she’d been yearning for. If Tal felt like this union was worth more than just the political gains both of their kingdoms had struck the bargain for, did that mean that he was also enjoying her company? The feeling of his fingers coaxing a curl of her hair around themselves sends chills dotting along the nape of her neck and down her shoulder and she attempted to laugh off the reaction, “Well, maybe with a little more time I’ll become fae adjacent enough that should our paths ever cross with anyone from your side of the family, I’ll know what color dress to wear to avoid at least most of the offense.” She glanced over her shoulder to find the fae’s gaze, “I wouldn’t want to give you another reason to regret our marriage.”

Her words are partially an admission, partially a question. The admission is simple: she wanted to be someone worth being proud to stand beside and the question… Well, that was more complicated. Because her question had become do you still regret me?
