I need people to stop thinking of robots and AI in their current states of advancement as conscious beings. It's a weird amount of anthropomorphization that really misses the mark on what the concerns surrounding these things should be. When you start talking about AI and robots as anything but tools, you begin to view robots and AI themselves as the problem instead of the people in charge of them and what they're being used for. It also makes you sound like a luddite who thinks the voice in their smartphone is Literally The Devil.

To put the answer simply, Rire used to work for the prior King as a Collector (of souls) and he was that King's only Collector and so got the brunt of his ire for any related, perceived fault. Aside from that personal connection Rire also really disliked him because he viewed the prior king as a useless glutton who failed at ruling a sector (conditions were tanking/had tanked for ages), and which the Royal powers were wasted on.

On a side note, I can't actually tell you either way because he hasn't encountered an alien (that isn't a demon or a human) lol. I’ve never really shared this publicly, but maybe IT'S TIME! (especially for anyone who’s been feeling discouraged by poor reach, or frustrated watching lower-quality content blow up or perform better while your work gets buried):

Not many people know this, sadly, but it's not that you're doing it wrong or your art sucks: there’s NO such thing as one GLOBAL, FAIR algorithm for ALL users on most platforms. EVERY COUNTRY HAS A DIFFERENT ALGLORITHM (apparently, the moment you create your account, it gets permanently tied to the regulations and filtering systems of that country).

This means that visibility, censorship, and engagement can VARY DRASTICALLY between users depending on which region/country the account was created in.

Unfortunately, the algorithm tied to MY COUNTRY is one of the MOST CONTENT-CENSORING and VISIBILITY-LIMITING in all of Europe!

I used to believe EU-wide regulations were applied fairly across the entire European region, but nope, actually I’ve observed how easily artists from some Nordic countries (like Finland, Sweden, Norway, etc...) gain crazy engagementand and higher recommendation on people's feeds, even with quickly-done art pieces over the past few years, WHILE creators from France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, etc, struggle to be seen, no matter how much effort and details they put on their art. While SOME artists from those 'VIP' countries still love to think so big about themselves or believe that their reach is 100% talent, I’ve always suspected that it’s often just a lucky combo of their algorithmically privileged region/country + their opportunistic algorithm gaming account activity/management.

I sometimes wonder how certain artists' hyperboosted pieces would perform if I posted them from my own account... and vice versa! I bet the results would be kind of interesting and funny to see.

For example, right now, Japan currently enjoys the most favourable algorithm on X worldwide (and probably on some other platforms too). When an account is randomly blessed and benefits from their algorithm, it's posible for them to farm thousands of likes/followers easily within a short timeframe, even with simpler and minimal artistic effort (and for free! no premium account is needed for that extra boost). Also some people can post more 'questionable' content from their account while others get their posts automatically censored and deboosted by their country algorithm when posting a picture about a male chest!

While this is not anyone’s fault, it definitely makes the whole system feel pretty discriminatory and unfair! All because of bloody political decisions against self-employment and content creators! I really hope we’ll finally put a stop to this nonsense soon! (not to mention the content creators struggling financially because of this, without even knowing what’s causing it…)

Since January 2025, the changes have hit me harder than in previous years: my reach has gone down drastically, censorship has increased, and it’s really affected my commissions. I’ve had fewer clients than last year just for this reason!

I wouldn’t say I trust ChatGPT 100%, of course it has mistakes!, but just in case anyone is interested, this helped me piece everything together and the data about several countries aligns pretty well with my own research and what I’ve experienced myself (these screenshots talk about X):

hii, how can you spot ai fics so i know how to avoid them?

generally there is a pattern and this is no way a blueprint but this is how I do it

all their fics end the same generic way, writing follows a certain pattern like every. single. piece. words are way too formal and not how we talk to each other daily (drop a fucking fuck in your fics guys no one will sue)

MAINLY the dialogue omg, either there is zero to none or every character talks similarly and i get that its hard but when every character has soulless puns, it is so fucking annoying and 100% ai. dialogues are mostly how I deduct someone is using ai like genuinely.

as someone who was raised on fanfics you can tell when a real person has written something and no em dashes are not the biggest indicator stop the propaganda I love my em dashes.

I'm aware that most of these aren't a dead giveaway but I usually go through an account and you can see inconsistencies in how an "author" writes and how they talk while answering asks etc

unless they are a loser using ai to answer asks too lmfao

not saying that authors can't post lots but if someone is posting 15+ fics everyday. without a break. yeah.

im not the best example for consistency tbh because I can't even follow my posting every alternate day routine but yes.

the ai detectors are so dog shit btw. once we did this exercise in my honours lecture of writing a piece each and running it through detectors to show our professor that we weren't using fuckass chatgpt and only 2 papers came out ai free. we wrote them in the lecture hall live in front of our professor😭😭😭🙏

3 Reasons Leftists Should Not Use AI

1. It is a statistics machine

Imagine you have a friend who only ever tells you what they think you want to hear. How quickly would that be frustrating? And how could you possibly rely on them to tell you the truth?

Now, imagine a machine that uses statistica to predict what someone like you probably wants to hear. That's ChatGPT. It doesnt think, it runs stats on the most likely outcome. This is why it cant really be creative. All it can do is regurgitate the most likely response to your input.

There's a big difference between that statistical prediction and answering a question. For AI, it doesnt matter what's true, only what's likely.

Why does that matter if you're a leftist? Well, a lot of praxis is actually not doing what is most likely. Enacting real change requires imagination and working toward things that havent been done before.

Not only that, but so much of being a communist or anarchist or anti-capitalist relies on being able to get accurate information, especially on topics flooded with propaganda. ChatGPT cannot be relied on to give accurate information in these areas. This only worsens the polarized information divide.

2. It reinforces the status quo

So if ChatGPT tells you what you're most likely to want to hear, that means it's generally pulling from what it has been trained to label as "average". We're seen how AI models can be influenced by the racism and sexism of their training data, but it goes further than that.

AI models are also given a model of what is "normal" that is biased towards their programmers/data sets. ChatGPT is trained to mark neoliberal capitalism as normal. That makes ChatGPT itself at odds with an anti-capitalist perspective. This kind of AI cannot help but incorporate not just racism, sexism, homophobia, etc but its creators' bias towards capitalist imperialism.

3. It's inescapably expoitative

There's no way around it. ChatGPT was trained on and regurgitates the unpaid, uncredited labor of millions. Full stop.

This kind of AI has taken the labor of millions of people without permission or compensation to use in perpetuity.

That's not even to mention how much electricity, water, and other resources are required to run the servers for AI--it requires orders of magnitude more computing power than a typical search engine.

When you use ChatGPT, you are benefitting from the unpaid labor of others. To get a statistical prediction of what you want to hear regardless of truth. A prediction that reinforces capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy, imperialism, and all the things we are fighting against.

Can you see how this makes using AI incompatible with leftism?

(And please, I am begging you. Do not use ChatGPT to summarize leftist theory for you. Do not use it to learn about activism. Please. There are so many other resources out there and groups of real people to organize with.)

I'm serious. Dont use AI. Not for work or school. Not for fun. Not for creativity. Not for internet clout. If you believe in the ideas I've mentioned here or anything adjacent to such, using AI is a contradiction to everything you stand for.

i've been following @nonevahed's journey using dictation software to write, and it seems like a deeply frustrating experience (certainly last time i played around with dictation, i found it unusable) and i was wondering if, with advances in recent technology, you could make dictation "work" without some of the inherent clunk of having to list out paragraph breaks and punctuation marks. and i think the answer is 'yes question mark'

my thought was to try the following process

record some audio of a live "writing a story aloud" session. (i am notably extremely bad at this so you'll have to forgive what you're about to read). this gave me an 8 minute audio

put it through a audio -> text transcriber. i used whishper, which runs locally even on my kinda garbo computer. this took less than 10 mins and gave me a decently clean transcript, filled with rambling and garbage

take that transcript and tell chatGPT to put in proper dialogue/punctuation/paragraph breaks/etc so that it's formatted as a story. i did have to do this twice because the first time i failed to say "use ONLY my own words" b/c it started to put some chatGPTisms in there lol, but after that it behaved

this worked, i would say, surprisingly well. original transcript and chatGPT results under the cut. you really will have to forgive the shitty writing lol. I am not designed to think aloud

Hi. I'm a fanfiction writer. I've just finished my longfic that I've been working on for the better part of two years.

It was hard work. Really hard work. I poured my heart and soul into it, to make it as good as I possibly could. I have a friend help me out as well, a native English speaker to beta read everything before I publish it

I get that putting prompts into ChatGPT seems like a fun and easy way to get a fanfiction

But please understand what you are doing:

1) Nothing. You have created nothing.And neither has ChatGPT, because

Understand that for ChatGPT to even be able to spit out the semblance of a fanfic, it will have to have been fed with a lot of STOLEN fanfictions from writers who actually wrote them

You're contributing to the theft of fanfiction

People have worked hard to write their stuff, and bots are crawling AO3 and other sites, stealing the fics, putting them into ChatGPT, so that you can put in a prompt.

Do you think that's fair?

"Oh but I can't write" Do it anyway. You won't get better if you don't do it. Ask in fandom for people to help you. Give you tips, read your stuff

"I'm not creative enough" Ask others to write your prompts. I bet there's people who'd happily write a short one shot

I actually just unlocked my AO3 account so that not registered users can read my stuff. I locked it precisely because of bots stealing fics to feed into ChatGPT etc

Skincare tips for my sakhis

So, recently I have started earning money on the side and I have started investing and researching on skincare in a better way. So here's my two cents for you guys:

1. Go to a damn dermatologist

I know we all have been there. Bought a lot of stuff based from reel recommendations that didn't really end up helping us at all. See, I know we all feel like its such a hassle going to a dermatologist or that it's pricey or whatever. But pick your poision. Stuck in an endless loop of buying products that end up hurting both your skin and wallet or going to a dermatologist and ending the cycle. Go to the doctor and ask a lot of questions. Get your moneys worth. Don't just go and take whatever prescription they give out either. Talk to them. Ask questions as to why the items they recommend is better. What type of products you should avoid. What ingredients to look out for. Everything. Trust me, it would save you a lot of money.

2. Please, for the love of God, don't buy anything recommended by any social media platform

I am not saying what these people recommend is bad. It might be good. It might even do wonders on your skin. But listen. Most of the time these influencers are paid to promote a brand. It's not an honest review as they claim it to be. Even when it might be a honest review, you need to understand one really important thing. Everybody is different. What they are suggesting you to buy might have worked on them, but it's not guaranteed it might work on you. There are a lot of factors to consider when buying skincare products. Whats your skin type, the environmental factor, your skin retention, etc. So, its always, always, always better to go to the direct source- a dermatologist. And you know look at it this way. A dermatologist have to recommend skincare products that will work on you. Because they need you to trust them. They need it for their business. They are not necessarily trying to promote a certain brand.

3. Opt for non- hormone disruptors and non-fragnant stuff

A lot of commercial skincare products contain hormone disruptors and fragrance, which aren’t ideal for long-term use. I get it – sometimes it feels like buying "clean" products is an expensive luxury, but doing a little research can go a long way, and it’s easier than you think. A lot of apps scan products and list out the harmful ingredients in them. If you are more lazy, then just chatgpt it. I get the money factor. If you don't think you can afford the most clean products atleast buy better alternatives. I am not saying cheap is always bad. Just do your own research before investing your money anywhere.

4. Water, diet and exercise

I know, I know. Everybody says this. Drink your water. Have a good appetite and exercise. But honestly thats the cheapest way for getting the healthy, glowy skin you want. Trust me, I did the math. And I am a person who spends the most on outdoor food. When I saw how much I am really spending on skincare and outdoor food, THAT really humbled me. All you have to do is be consistent. I am not saying drop your junk food. Just put in some work on your own self. There are always alternatives or sneaky ways to work in good food, water and exercise in your daily life. You just have to be willing to do it. I am not saying I have the best diet right now either. All you have to do is get to know yourself better. Try to find out why you lean towards junk food more than healthy food. Why you don't drink your water and just try to combat the issue. Waking up one day and decising you are going to be completely clean is an unfair delusion that will ultimately crash and fail. You have to dig deeper and find the root causes of your habits. Like in my case with food, I realized the reason is convenience. I don't have time to make good food at all. Buying chips is way cheaper and convenient than cooking my own food. When I realized that this is whats stopping me to eat better, I started opting for cleaner snack options. Cause honestly thats the best I can do right now in my current situation. We all are hustling right now. You shouldn't put so much pressure on yourself about these things. It's about trying to be a little better than yesterday. Make small achievable goals. And trust me, it would be very easy to handle the water, diet and exercise routine too.

How I use AI in my artworks and what I think about AI in general

I think it’s time to have this conversation because questions keep coming up more and more often.

I know that many people here don’t like AI or completely ignore it. In this post, I’d like to share my personal view on the topic and also answer the question of whether I use AI in my artworks.

Let me start with the simpler question. The answer is “yes,” I do use AI tools in some of my artworks. However, none of them can be considered fully AI-generated.

Sometimes, I use AI to create backgrounds or silhouettes, but I completely change the faces, like here: https://pin.it/2RUhZKz4S.

Other times, almost everything is AI-generated, for example: https://pin.it/N8apDmpfz.

Sometimes I use face swap technology, faceapp for hairs, etc.

I also have arts created fully without AI, but the faces there are based on real photos of Hunter and Jenna and edited with filters.

In general, I use anywhere from 3 to 5 or more tools for my artworks, including AI.

Some cases wouldn’t be possible for me to create without AI because I simply don’t have the technical skills yet. Others, on the contrary, are impossible to get from AI, no matter how hard you try, so I go back to good old collage techniques and hand-drawing.

Now, about my attitude towards AI overall.

You may like it or not, but it’s now part of our lives, and ignoring it is no longer an option. No AI boycott will stop its development. Almost any app nowadays has inbuilt AI tools.

I’m currently on maternity leave, but even in my professional field, AI is already widely used, and when I return to work, I’ll either need to know how to use it or fall behind the industry. That’s why I’m studying AI, and I do enjoy the possibilities it offers.

That said, I don’t deny there are issues - copyright concerns, as well as serious problems with fraud and fakes it can enable. As a mother, I’m terrified by the thought that someone could use my voice or image against my children. Now we have to be much more careful with what information about ourselves we put online - photos, videos, audio.

AI also creates a lot of low-quality content. But there was also low-quality content before AI.

As for writing, I don’t use AI there. It’s terrible at creative writing, plus that’s a space I want to keep entirely my own.

However, I do use ChatGPT to help write and translate tons of bureaucratic emails in a foreign language (which is, unfortunately, necessary when living abroad), and this saves me time to do what I actually enjoy, including writing.

One of my favorite YouTube videos from last year is about scientific breakthroughs of 2024. It’s in Russian, so I won’t link it here, but it mentions how AI, thanks to its ability to process massive amounts of data and detect patterns, has already helped scientists with several discoveries. For example, it helped identify a substance that might be effective against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. It also contributed to a breakthrough in forensics related to fingerprint analysis, among other things.

Of course, AI makes mistakes, it’s often inaccurate, and everything it produces needs double-checking. But it can also be useful. That’s why I disagree with people who view AI as pure evil.

I use it for art, video projects, web design, and official correspondence, languages learning. Even though I try to keep up with AI trends, it evolves so fast that it’s impossible to follow everything - it updates literally every day.

It can be used for bad things (fraud), but also for good (scientific research). I’d say how I use it is somewhere in the neutral zone. I hope it doesn’t harm anyone - and maybe even makes someone happy.

This project is unfinished and will remain that way. There are bugs. Not all endings are implemented. The ending tracker doesn't work. Images are broken. Nothing will be fixed. There's still quite a bit of content, though, so I am releasing what's here as is.

Tilted Sands is a project I started back when AI Dungeon first came out--the very early version you had to run in a Google colabs notebook. Sometime in late 2018, I think? I was a contributor at Botnik Studios at the time and I was delighted by AI Dungeon, but I knew it would never be a truly satisfying choose your own adventure generator on its own. I would argue that the modern AI Dungeon 2 and NovelAI don't fully function as such even now. That's not how AI works. It has to be guided heavily, the product has to be sculpted by human hands.

Anyway, it inspired me to use Transformer--a GPT2 predictive text writing tool--to craft a more coherent and polished but still silly and definitely AI-flavored CYOA experience. It was an ambitious project, but I was experienced with writing what I like to call "cyborg" pieces--meaning the finished product is, in a way, made by both an AI/algorithm/other bot AND a human writer. Something strange and wonderful that could not have been made by the bot alone, nor by the human writer alone. Algorithms can surprise us and trigger our creative human minds to move in directions we never would've thought to go in otherwise. To me, that's what actual AI art is: a human engaging in a creative activity like writing in a way that also includes utilizing an algorithm of some sort. The results are always fascinating, strangely insightful, and sometimes beautiful.

I worked on Tilted Sands off-and-on for a couple years, and then the entire AI landscape changed practically overnight with DALL-E and ChatGPT. And I soon realized that I cannot continue working on this project. Mainstream, corporate AI is disgustingly unethical and I don't want the predictive text writing I used to enjoy so much to be associated with "AI art". It's not. Before DALL-E and ChatGPT, there were artists and writers who made art by utilizing algorithms, neural networks, etc. Some things were perhaps in an ethical or legal grey area, but people actually did care about that. I remember discussing "would it be ethical to scrape [x]?" with other writers, and sharing databases of things like commercial advertising scripts and public domain content. I liked using mismatched databases to write things, like a corpus of tech product reviews that I used to write a song. The line between transformative art and fair use vs theft was constantly on all of our minds, because we were artists ourselves.

All of the artists and writers I knew in those days who made "cyborg art" have stopped by now. Including me.

But I poured a lot of love and thought and energy into this silly little project, and the thought of leaving it to rot on my hard drive hurt too much. It's not done, but there's a lot there--over 14,000 words, multiple endings and game over scenarios. I had so much fun with it and I wanted to complete it, but I can't. I don't want it to be associated in any way with the current "AI art" scene. It's not.

Please consider this my love letter to what technology-augmented art used to be, and what AI art could have been.

I know I'm not the only one mourning this brief but intense period from about 2014-2019 in which human creativity and developing AI technology combined organically to create an array of beautiful, stupid, silly, terrible, wonderful works of art. If you're also feeling sad and nostalgic about it, I hope you find this silly game enjoyable even in its unfinished state.

In conclusion:

Fuck capitalism, fuck what is currently called AI art, fuck ChatGPT, fuck every company taking advantage of artists and writers and other creative types by using AI.

this isnt even exclusive to obey me, since practically every fandom has issues like this. but i really wish that people would educate themselves at least a little bit about general fandom etiquette, and this includes how we interact with the official material. i see lots of people breaking solmares tos by doing things like datamining the game to leak unreleased cards early, datamining raw images from the games so they can make edits of the official art and repost them, etc. this kind of stuff directly breaks solmares rules in the tos that you agree to when you download the game. this can get your account banned and no one wants that! and on a less official level, i am begging people to stop stealing artists work and uploading their fanart w/o source or credit to places like tiktok. that app is FULL of obey me videos using stolen fanart without the artists knowledge or permission, without credit. cut that shit out! do people really not understand art theft any more? and this one might be controversial, but for the love of god please stop using those character ai chatbots. everyone is all anti-ai until its stealing from writers instead of artists, i guess? like if we know that chatgpt is bad how come no one can stop using character ai? this is the kind of stuff that poisons fandoms and slowly kills it off

Re: tumblr selling our data to AI companies.

I don't know if it's overly cynical to say, but it's nothing that all the other social media haven't done already, with more or less publicity. I see people being like, "I'm going away from Tumblr, I'll be on Instagram instead" and. Do you really think Facebook and co aren't selling all of your stuff already. They are.

The AI companies are buying a shitload of data now, I'm guessing mostly so they can say they have "legally acquired" content when the laws and lawsuits start rolling in, but they were scrapping tumblr before that. They were and are scrapping AO3 and whatever other website you use. It's disturbingly easy to get ChatGPT to write shitty omegaverse. If you ask the image AIs to give you Maedhros from the Silmarillion, they'll spit out red-haired guys - that's not because it's canon (it's not even in the Silm) but because it's been trained on our fanart.

This is undoubtedly a shitty move on Tumblr's part, I hate it, etc. This is sure as hell not a defence of them. Do toggle the toggle to "opt-out" for whatever good it's going to do. Do Glaze your art if you can, Nightshade if you can (remember that Nightshade doesn't protect shit though), I don't think either of those are the panacea I've seen them described as but it's better than nothing. But ultimately, all of our stuff online (not just art, and not just public things) has been scrapped and will be scrapped. It doesn't matter if it's on your personal website or on shitty social media.

The internet's core concept is sharing, and that involves a certain amount of goodwill on all sides of the transaction. And that goodwill, when it comes to those big companies, just isn't there. The only way to protect your art from being scrapped is to not share it anywhere.

I don't have a solution. Those models are probably going to burn themselves out eventually, but the next thing will be as bad or worse. The big companies have considered themselves above the law for years and legal frameworks are unlikely to do much. The choice is between not sharing anything and giving up on the communities that bring me joy, or accepting that my art will be stolen whatever I do. Personally I'm going to keep sharing my art on here with the people who enjoy it, and try to remember even in the worst moments of imposter syndrome that it will always be a thousand times better than whatever shitty things the AIs are sprouting by stealing it.

This isn't the solution (or even compromise) I wish I could have. I'm writing this because all the posts I'm seeing are panicking and guilt-tripping, and I've caught myself feeling guilty for still wanting to share my art even though it's going to feed the Machines(TM) and. Can we please stop that. Can we not make the artists somehow responsible for being stolen from.

If I post an update to largely hear crickets, it usually gives me the impression that readers don’t care much and it depresses me quite a lot, which impacts my motivation and production. Kudos are nice, but they aren’t really engagement. All they let me know is someone stopped by at least just once and said ‘cool’ but didn’t bother to engage further, which is also frustrating.
