it's fucking wild how many queer people including lesbians will talk about bi women in the same way misogynistic men talk about women in general and find nothing wrong with that. practically frothing at the mouth to call them disease addled whores who were ruined by men's touch (or with added transmisogyny, by dicks), calling them attention seeking sluts who think they're oppressed and then cruelly dismissing abuse stories and insanely high rates of ipv and abuse as "that's what you deserve for getting too close to men/being too promiscuous", thinking of them as inherently shallow bimbos whose sole goal is men's attention—literally there's a whole chunk of queer and lesbian feminists who would balk in horror at treating heterosexual women this way but very freely say this shit about bi women lol

Really weird to me how biphobes insist bi women are Basically Straight™ and reap all the benefits of straight privilege when we're literally at the highest risk for IPV. If we were really able to effortlessly blend in with heterosexual women then there wouldn't be such a large discrepancy in IPV rates between straight and bisexual women. "Straight passing privilege" is a myth that assumes the discrimination bisexuals face only occurs on the assumption that they're gay, and only serves to alienate bisexuals from the larger community by painting them as intruders.

hi! loving your art. I was watching your awesome stories/gifs and I was wondering: how did Chang develop his feelings for Tintin? Did he discover them before or after him? How did he react and why? (English is not my first language so if you see a grammatical mistake, I'm sorry. Also, sorry if so many questions made you feel like you were in a philosophy exam)
Thank you so much! As a contrast to the rest of the Marlinspike team I'm writing Chang as someone who makes friends and develops crushes pretty easily!
I imagine he's had a crush on Tintin for some time, possibly from when they first met. He's been at the mercy of his circumstances for most of his life until that point - Tintin basically makes him feel capable of doing stuff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's pretty heartbroken after the Blue Lotus. Tintin doesn't contact him for years. Chang is struggling to adjust to his new family and is failing at school, having missed out on a good education for a few years prior. Until Tibet he feels pretty hopeless, he will never live up to the time when he took down a drug ring.
His near death experience in Tibet shakes him out of this rut. He starts to travel and take up hobbies like dance and photography. Didi trains him in some basic martial arts. Tintin makes an effort to actually stay in touch this time. Chang has some abandonment issues as he's frequently lost people throughout his life, so he's someone who's willing to give people second chances, even if they've hurt him badly. Chang thinks he's well over his crush on Tintin when he comes around to Belgium for his studies, but falls for him again very quickly!
Unlike Tintin, Chang is a lot more comfortable with who he is. He's used to being the odd one out and has generally low expectations for himself, so just goes with the flow.
Tumblr media
Below I talk a little with how I'm going about writing him and the historical context surrounding this, cw for mentions of racism (sinophobia) and queerphobia:
I'm writing Chang as bi, I thought it would be interesting to explore as Asian men were perceived differently in the 30s compared to today. While Asian men in the West are currently heavily desexualised in the early 20th century they were stereotyped as predatory and deviant. In London a lot of Chinese immigrants were male dockworkers, so when they married white women there was a lot of fearmongering about predatory and disloyal Chinese men.
A lot of depictions of Asian men in Western media reflected these stereotypes (and often used queercoding to push the idea of Asian men being animalistic seducers - General Henry Chang in Shanghai Express (1932) was written to be bisexual while posing as a threat to the white leads). Some examples off the top of my head include Hishuru Tori from The Cheat (1915) and The Mask of Fu Manchu (1932). Novels frequently depicted Chinese drug lords with borderline supernatural powers in manipulation.
On the other hand I've noticed how fans frequently depict Chang as someone who's submissive, demure and soft, which ignores how ridiculously brave and proactive he is in canon (stealing documents from police officers, charging into a man immediately after getting shot at by a machine gun, I could go on!). It's a common example of Fandom Racism (not accusing anyone specifically, it's just a trend I've noticed.)
When writing Chang I'm kinda reckoning with two different eras. From a contemporary angle I'm writing him as a love interest, which as an Asian guy I rarely see in media today. I also gotta consider his own time and context, how he would navigate being a queer Chinese guy, and how that would affect his relationship with others and himself.

Since BuckTommy fans want to accuse Oliver of being biphobic because their ship imploded last night, let me clear something up for some of y'all:
Yes, there are some bisexual people who have sexual relations with people from both genders. And yes, there are some bisexual people who choose to explore their sexuality through sex when they first come to terms with their bisexuality.
The issue comes when actual biphobic people take that and use it to the run with the myth that bisexuals are "promiscuous" and "unfaithful," which plays into the idea that bi people will sexually pursue someone of a gender that differs from the gender they are currently involved with, which plays into the "cheating bisexual" myth.
A myth that the bi community has been forced to see time and time again in media for AGES and to this day, continues to combat.
THAT'S being biphobic.
THAT'S biphobia.
And Oliver has done none of that.

"whether you hc Kerry as bisexual or—" Kerry is originally a character from a tabletop role-playing game that's been made into a videogame by CDPR. I don't need to hc him as bisexual because he's canonically bisexual, thank you very much.
even in Cyberpunk 2077 he has an ex wife and two kids that he definitely didn't aquire by jerking off into a cup. he did love her. he did want kids. the trauma his ex wife caused is another, unexplored thing that the devs just avoid completely and refuse to talk about his bisexuality.
so if you harass real people for modding Kerry to be with a female V to the point that people feel afraid to post their trans feminine looking men and feel like they have to state immediately something like, "it's not like I ship him with a woman, it's a man!", then the problem is within you.
they're all fictional characters, but again: Kerry is a canonical bisexual character, whether you like that or not. and I, personally, will not apologize for wanting to see him with a woman in the game, whether she's cis or trans. Kerry would go for either. the way his preference is portrayed in the game, zero explanation and reason, making it look like he's gay and always has been, is the developers' fault.
(should I remind y'all again that bisexuality is a spectrum?)

people posting "max is straight???" because of the announcement and like I'm not saying he is but you do know bisexual people exist right? all of your "signs" that he's gay could very well be bisexuality and these "jokes" and crying about "losing queer representation" reeeeeeeek of biphobia. I'd say do better but that's definitely too much to ask.

The biphobia coolaide never fails to smooth out peoples brains...
#Anti Lunter Lumity/Huntlow shippers are so goddamn creepy and annoying LMAO#crying about those mean old Lunter shippers for being ''homophobic'' bc they ship the bisexual girl with the bisexual boy#they are legitimately delusional#Anti Lunter rhetoric is rooted in biphobia#and we need to stop letting people in the LGTQA+ community gaslight us into thinking we're privileged and that straight ppl like us#Anti Lunter Lumity/Huntlow shippers are BIPHOBIC and we need to stop thinking their HATRED for bisexuals is justified#their little crusade to defend the ''queer'' ship from the ''straight'' ship is biphobic bc Luz AND Hunter are bisexual#Luz also likes boys like Hunter.#And even if Hunter wasn't bisexual that doesn't change the fact that Luz getting with a guy still counts as good BISEXUAL representation#because the whole point of representation is to showcase a particular groups lived experiences#This is why I can't stand the argument that bisexuals in m/f relationships shouldn't be represented#bc there are a bunch of m/f relationships in media#This argument is completely illogical because all those m/f relationships are between straight people#those relationships do not exist to represent bisexuals -- they exist to represent straight people#gotta love how every sexuality deserves representation besides bisexual people#i also love how people in the TOH fanbase do not see bisexuality as it's own unique sexuality#the only ones I feel bad for are the bisexual kids who are going to be brainwashed into thinking they're don't deserve representation#because straights and the LGTQA+ community think our lived experiences are disgusting and unworthy of representation

happy pride to the imaginary evil bisexual woman terrorising the community. she’s out there stealing someone’s masc girlfriend only to dump them for a man or throwing bricks at chappell roan’s float at the parade or setting her attack dog cishet boyfriend on real sapphics. i mean, she isn’t, because she doesn’t exist except for in the minds of people who want to hate on bi women but she is out there!!! all lgbt issues are her fault even if they’re being caused by right wingers or the government or grifters. boo evil bi woman! she’s always out there to get you! even though she’s not, because as we established, she’s not actually real!!!

people will be like thinking about shadowheart with a man makes me violently ill. i hate going into the astarion tag because there are people who don't seem gay enough for me in there romancing him and enjoying his character and i have to see their headcanons. the characters are all actually playersexual because they can always be romanced by the main character (conveniently making it impossible for me to have to regard any bisexual love interest as such), so it's okay to say they're whatever sexuality i want and it's actually fucked up of YOU to deny me this (so i will ignore blatant mechanical and narrative evidence of their bisexuality, while also demanding that you care about my desire for representation while i deny you yours).
and if you ever call them on it, they play the victim. whether the biphobia was obvious or subtle, they will always either pretend like they're being attacked, or play the "oh no the [insert insult here] people have found this" card, because... what. they think biphobia is just when people say "i hate bisexual people," and not the myriad ways in which people scorn, condemn, deny, and express their discomfort at bisexuality?
