Archaic Lake Cats Culture
Before the tribes and before the forest clans there was the Lake Cats. They acted much more like real cat clowders but had clear differences.
The single group would travel around the lake during different seasons. In Greenleaf they’d settle in the marshes, in Leaffall they’d settle in the lush forests, in Leafbare they’d settle in the river lands, and in Newleaf they’d settle in the sparse fields. A cat is given a name at birth and they stuck to that name unless specifically changing it for a special reason examples being Half Moon, Fallen Leaves, and Broken Shadow. A single spiritual leader leads the group across the territories and performs ceremonies like the honor ceremony, choosing when to travel to the next camp, and sleeping next to the sparkling pool.
The honor ceremony is when a young cat is sent into the tunnels at dusk tasked to traverse them to find their new self and re-emerge at dawn to mark themselves as a full grown cat. This is done every newleaf no matter how old a cat is because this is when the Tribe is settled at the field territory right next to the sparkling pool (later the moonpool)
The changing of camps is decided by the current leader usually as the first signs of the changing seasons show up
Sleeping at the Sparkling Pool was a event held every newleaf after all young cats became adults and done by all cats of the group who could make the journey. Here the cats would sleep atop the smooth rocks or directly at the pools side if they were particularly close to the Stars and speak with their ancestors. While some dreamed of catching prey or seeing a loved one others would hear whispers of the future
Sharing of prey was a well practiced tradition of making sure even the weakest or unable cats got some food. This is a common thing across all forms of the original Lake Cats
It was a harsh Leafbare when the Lake cat Leader Half Moon received a whisper of the soon coming future. A massive fire would strip and destroy the newly sprouting fields, if the cats stayed they would dwindle and die out. But where they would go was not foreseen. After telling the well respected Smooth Stone (prev. Stone Song) about what she saw the cats put it to a vote of where they would move, to the mysterious mountains or unknown lands. Casting stones they came to a tie. Unsure of what to do the Lake Cats broke apart, Half Moon’s group heading to the mountains and Smooth Stone’s group heading off to strange lands. Both groups would end up living but in very different ways. Half Moon’s followers becoming the new Tribes of Rushing Water and Smooth Stone’s becoming the Sisters.

Archaic Lake Cats
See also: Archaic Lake Cats Culture
Leaders
Half Moon: a small tufty white molly with eyes white like stars. She led the Lake Cats to the mountains and became the first Speaker for the Stars of the Tribe of Rushing Water. See The First Speaker of the Stars for more information
Smooth Stone: bulky really silky dark blue molly with a large overbite and lavender eyes. Partnered with Broken Shadow and sire of Fallen Leaves, Dusk, Dawn, and Cumulous. She split from the original Archaic Lake Cats with the cats who sided with her going away from the mountains. See the Sisters for More Information
Adults
Cloudy Sun: fluffy golden molly with tufted ears and odd white markings that slowly grew across her pelt as she aged. Followed Stone in the casting of stones. Her descendants are a particular bloodline in the current day Sisters in particular Sunlight, Sunshine, and Sunray.
Buzzard Wing: a lanky gray swirled tabby with rich eyes and tufts on her backs like wings. Followed Half Moon to the Tribe of Rushing Water and was the mother of Jay Finding Falls and Dove Finding Flowers.
Jay Feathers: a tufty gray tabby with darker stripes and sharp warm brown eyes. Followed Half Moon to the Tribe of Rushing Water and recorded down in the great cavern for being apart of the two cats to find their new home, only stumbling upon it after running after his younger sibling Dove Beak. Known more as Jay Finding Falls for this reason. See The Siblings Who Found the Falls for more information.
Dark Sky: a bulky black tom with eyes a pale blue. Followed Half Moon and loved the journey, went on to create the new ceremony of the cats after his own kittens would need to perform it there. Partner of Owl Wings and father of Fox that Shrieks, Waves on Water, and Pounce on Mouse.
Broken Shadow: round black molly with broken ginger patches and amber eyes. She followed her partner Stone in going to the open lands instead of the mountains, her decision fueled also by her only kits recent death in the caves at the Lake. Become one of the first Sister. Partner of Stone and mother of Fallen Leaves, Dusk, Dawn, and Cumulous.
Owl Wings: a muscular long light and dull brown patched molly with huge paws. Followed Half Moon as a nursing mother with her little kits Red, Shade, and Patches later named Fox that Shrieks, Waves on Water, and Pounce on Mouse.
Wild Fire: a double coated red tabby with bright green eyes and white spots across her fur, her tail is particularly bushy. Followed Half Moon and was the first cat to train a bird being called the mother of falconry, her own bird usually depicted as a beautiful hawk with feathers reddish brown like her own fur. See The First Falconer for more information
Running Horse: a towering dark brown cat with gray flecks to their fur and particularly weak joints. Followed Stone and become one of the first Sisters.
Jagged Lightning: a leggy black and white tom with rich rosy eyes. Stayed with his parent Running Horse and joined the Sisters.
Small Fawn: a tiny fluffy pale gray and pinkish tabby molly with spotted striped and white spots on her back. She followed Stone and became on of the first Sisters.
Adolescents
Fallen Leaves: a skinny but silky molly with white, ginger, and black patches resembling leaves in Leaffall. Known for his ceremony that he never escaped from, the event that triggered both his mothers to go away from the stony mountains. Ever since then he’s been a ghost trapped but for what reason? See Fallen Leaves The Stuck Spirit for more information.
Dove Beak: a tiny puffball of light gray fur with large eyes and yellow spots across their pelt. Followed Half Moon to the Tribe and later renamed to Dove Finding Flowers after completing their coming of age ceremony. Recorded down by the Tribe as the cat who found the great cavern by chasing petals in the wind beside her older brother Jay Feathers who went after her. The Tribe’s affinity for throwing flowers comes from this story
Fish Scales: a sleek perm molly with wavy brown patterns and green eyes. Followed Stone after she escaped the tunnels but when her crush Fallen Leaves didn’t she traveled away from the mountains.
